As a mobile player I didnt know hidden palace is a deleted zone. In mystic cave there is a place that if u jump down instead of holding the metal switch and activating the wood door, u fall all the way down to hidden palace. IT even has a special boss, I found the zone as an accident
Trivia: - Dust Hill Zone was never removed. In fact, Dust Hill was the prototype name for Mystic Cave Zone - The infamous desert zone mockup mistakenly labeled as a Dust Hill Zone screenshot was never in a Playable Build. Also, the zone's name was Sand Shower Zone.
dust hill wasn't the proto name for mystic cave, actually, dust hill is just another name for sand shower, as for the music, dust hill just uses mystic cave's music because mystic cave used to be part of dust hill zone, most likely being a remnant of rock world zone(dust hill's past) when sonic 2 still had a time traveling mechanic but that's just a theory A GAME THEORY

The Hidden Palace Zone didn't become an official Sonic 2 Zone until the game went to mobile devices a few years ago; the Zone was being put together by the guys at Sonic Team USA and Sega for weeks before eventually being completed in time to have Sonic 2 go to mobile devices. The Hidden Palace Zone can be played after beating the boss in Act 2 of the Mystic Cave Zone; after you beat the boss in Hidden Palace Zone Act 2, you'll be taken to Act 1 of the Oil Ocean Zone.
I’m still wondering how the Phantom Ruby’s portal could counter Sonic’s speed, Sonic moves at the speed of sound, and could easily outrun a random purple portal.
Maybe it's similar to a black hole where not even light can escape it. Makes sense considering Sonic couldn't move anywhere near that fast until around Heroes-Unleashed (Just a very rough estimate).
