Thankyou Mikey for the diagram, I am one of those people that can read a diagram without a problem but have trouble fallowing tutorials, don’t know why. I will make this Afghan starting today and I thank you for the tip on how to use the two balls of yarn together because I would have started in the middle with both of them.
I just have to say you have the clearest, easiest to follow crochet tutorials on RUclips. I love how you show both the diagram and the actual work. I think I just may have to do this blanket. So gorgeous!!
I start this pattern using one strand of yarn 5 weight it turning out beautiful I need a light weight my granddaughter lives in Florida for her 15 birthday coming up. I enjoy how you show us how to do the stitch’s I love you personality makes it a pleasure to watch your charts are easy to understand and read them keep up the good work and thank you
Yay - I found a project to use my odd Caron cakes & loving that it’s a weighted blanket too. Thanks for sharing so many wonderful projects with us . God bless
I love this idea and think it would make a beautiful blanket but, like some of the other comments, I also would like to know where the “weighted” comes in.
Thank you!!! I have been looking at those charts like they were written in Japanese. The way you explained the worksheet was incredibly helpful, I think I'm ready to try the worksheet method now. Seriously, huge happy moment for me!!
Looks more complicated than it is. Thanks for great directions. Good camera angles. I can tell what you are doing. Really like the variety in the stitches, but easy enough to do while watching TV.
First of all, thank you very much Mikey for sharing all your beautiful projects and for the easy to follow videos. I've seen companies selling weighted crochet/knit blankets for $250. What makes it a weighted blanket?
Sue Madison I just followed the pattern for the Blue Wave afghan (same pattern). I’m still working on it but I’m hoping 2 cakes will be enough. ruclips.net/video/yv_W0apF6BA/видео.html
I believe this blanket is considered weighted because of it being worked with 2 strands of yarn. Mikey has been lately working on thick blanket designs using blanket yarn to make heavier blankets for palliative care patients.
Yes, it is fun to play with the coloring that way. One of the reasons Marling is fun is the color combos are endless, so you have unlimited ways to be creative.
I'm a little confused about why one would pull from center & the other from the outside. Is it to get the color cross to make the occasional solid stripe? Would that not happen if the centers were different colors?
This is really neat! But I do have a question, because as you said the center are never the same can you not go ahead and use from the center on both cakes? Thank you for share this can't wait to try
You sure can. With one going from the centre and the other going from the outside, both ball s are not in the same colour sequence. If you use from both outside or both inside, they have the same colour sequence and the colours won't cross over. It's up to you.
You use both yarn balls or cakes at the same time and crochet like it was a single yarn. You have to occasionally stop and"untangle" things as the yarn does have a tendency to tangle as you go along. In the description box he says to pull the yarn from the middle on one cake and from the outside on the other
It means pause the video until you get to the end of the row of your project. When you finish your row, start to play the video for the next row. I hope that makes sense.
@@pjscelfo916 the pauses are understandable, so we don't need to watch him complete each row. The pattern title isn't Waited Blanket. It is Weighted Blanket. I am wondering too. When and what type of weight is added?
Nat Ford I thought it was considered weighted because we are using two strands of the cakes at once. That will be pretty heavy if we have six in a lap blanket. Just my opinion.
Vicki Mehnert A weighted blanket is an especially heavy blanket used by autistic people and those diagnosed with anxiety amongst others because it makes them feel weighed down in bed and so more secure (google “weighted blanket”). I am autistic and was looking forward to a pattern for a weighted blanket, not merely a slightly heavier and slightly thicker normal blanket, mistakenly called a weighted blanket. The definition of weighted with regards to blankets means “with added weights.”
The stitch stop gives you an opportunity to pause the video so you can get your project set up, if you're following along to the letter. In the case of this project, if you're following exactly what Mikey did, then the pause at 5:48 is your chance to pause the video, finish your starting chain and then hit play again so you can follow along. Hope this helps!
Hi Mikey, thank you loving the tutorials and extra stuff. Please can u help me? Whatever I try I can't seem get the yarn etc for the mystery CAL with granny type squares. 🤗

Love hearing that a break through moment happened for you. Nicely done.
Oooh 😯, thanks for sharing! Have lots of Caron cakes to use up. Thanks Mikey!
What a wonderful idea. I'll have to make one for my brother in Vermont because it looks so warm also.
This is the same pattern as the Cake Off! Love it! Thanks Mikey, you're the best!
Yes, you got it.
This is a really cool techniwue. This will be very useful for me. 💟 Thank you so much for sharing this pattern and video. ✌🏻💟😁🧶🇺🇸

I love this!!!! The color, the pattern it's just gorgeous
Im thinking of using date syrup to sweeten the jam mixture. Syrup is better because date sugar doesn't dissolve as the jam cooks.
I've been needing a good stash-busting pattern ❤
Thanks for the tutorial, can’t wait to make this
Very pretty blanket I'm going to have to try this.great tutorial thank you
Oh wow I've got to try this I made stars with the 2yarn strains together with solids but never with the stripes or ombre
wonderful this would make a cute baby blanket also
First of all, thank you very much Mikey for sharing all your beautiful projects and for the easy to follow videos. I've seen companies selling weighted crochet/knit blankets for $250. What makes it a weighted blanket?
I’m actually doing this pattern with Caron Anniversary cakes (single strand)!
Thanks for the idea ! I was looking for a pattern to use my anniversary cake on. How many did you chain at first ? How many skeins ?
Sue Madison I just followed the pattern for the Blue Wave afghan (same pattern). I’m still working on it but I’m hoping 2 cakes will be enough.
ruclips.net/video/yv_W0apF6BA/видео.html
I was going to try this with an anniversary cake too! What size hook will you be using ?
Nancy Herman 9mm hook
Leah Hiett Thank you Leah 🥰
I believe this blanket is considered weighted because of it being worked with 2 strands of yarn. Mikey has been lately working on thick blanket designs using blanket yarn to make heavier blankets for palliative care patients.
can't wait to make this ty Mikey
If using two different color ways can you go from inside on both?
Yes, it is fun to play with the coloring that way.

When using 2 strands, what size hook should I be using please? Thank you..
The pattern underneath the video says to use a K hook
@@sandijohnson6708 thank you so much!!
What makes it weighted? Just that the yarn is thicker?
What makes it weighted?
What gives it the weight? I need to be able to grade the weight for therapeutic reasons?
Thanks Mickie beautiful
I saw how expensive weighted blankets were... So I'm trying to crochet one.
Yeah they can be pricey. I do wonder if the cost is associated to being special and not necessarily more materials.
I'm a little confused about why one would pull from center & the other from the outside. Is it to get the color cross to make the occasional solid stripe? Would that not happen if the centers were different colors?

I'm going to use 2 color ways of the Caron Cakes. Will I still need to use one ball from the inside and one from the outside?
How do you use the double strands??
You use both yarn balls or cakes at the same time and crochet like it was a single yarn. You have to occasionally stop and"untangle" things as the yarn does have a tendency to tangle as you go along. In the description box he says to pull the yarn from the middle on one cake and from the outside on the other
What I do is place 2 mixing bowls between my feet snd place a yarn cake in each one. Works fine.
Thanks!!
Hi there, I'm a big fan. Do you ever start a project with chainless foundation row?
Rarely do I ever but you can decide to do that if you wish.
Fun and fabulous! ^_^
Hi Mikey! How big do you think I could make this using 6 balls of Caron Big Cakes? I’m terrible at figuring it out😂
Pretty 😍
To jest ładne i proste
What does “stitch stop ahead” mean?
Also, when do we add the weight?
It means pause the video until you get to the end of the row of your project. When you finish your row, start to play the video for the next row. I hope that makes sense.

How would it look different if you started in the center with the 2 balls?
Hi Mikey, thank you loving the tutorials and extra stuff. Please can u help me? Whatever I try I can't seem get the yarn etc for the mystery CAL with granny type squares. 🤗
Its so cute I like the you are talking us through
34 inches by 47 inches. Has any one made this and was it larger than the dimensions given?
You said use two balls yet you are using one?
I show one as people complain when there are two strands being shown at the same time.
Baby truitjes breien
I wish you would stitch a little slower
I’m sorry about that. You can change my speed with your RUclips player to slow my hands if you need to.
