If your rockers have a lot of side to side play I’d say it’s definitely the lifters. Not too bad of a job, just make sure you pull the cam and inspect it because it’s probably damaged.
@offroadfury6 ehhh if its been sitting for at least a day and you start it up and it ticks for a second or two, but then goes away.....its just ticking before the oil gets to the top of the motor which is normal. mine does the same thing, however if it makes the noise like in this video its the lifters. buy that gto!
I am trying to buy a GTO...but on a cold startup ( been sitting for atleast a day )...it did TIck tick tick tick tick, then it ran fine...never could get it to do it again...I'm scared to buy it...I dont know if it would be piston slap, lifters, bottom bearings rod , or the oil pressure just not rising fast enough. Did your GTO start doing this by cold startup and going away quickly?
I just got my lifters replaced and my goat runs quietly and nice now. Just did the swap over the weekend. I had the exact noise. Also you might want to check the engine coolant temperature sensor.
@@cameronlewis4616 It may not be the lifter thats causing the noise. May be the fuel injector not spraying adequate amount of fuel because because the computer is giving them the wrong signal. So the ticking may be in the combustion and not the lifters. The coolant temp sensor if not working properly is telling the computer that the coolant is cold therefore, the computer would not spray the right amount of fuel.
yeah the h pipe definately gives it more of a deeper tone than an x pipe. with the cam i have in it now makes it sound like an old muscle car! im very satisfied with the spintechs although now with the cam, headers and no cats here in cali im basically making myself a huge target for cops so now im thinking of quieting the exhaust down a bit with some magnaflows :( but i will have cut outs :) but seriously the thing is super loud!! i scare people with it!!!
I hope my gto knock is the lifters but i think its rod knock. Rocker arms wiggle side to side

its the lifters most likely. check your oil filter and or oil when you drain it for metallic particles. if none its not your rods.
i replaced the lifters and the knocking went away completely

Why would the temp sensor effect this, only asking as my LS2 monaro just starter making this noise
