I do admire the way he says "Do you love me?" like he's trying to get someone to admit to a crime. Just classic.
“LIKE I LOVE YOU.” Ominously, almost as though the singer is trying to manipulate reciprocal love by proclaiming love, though based on the lyrics, I would determine that one of them (perhaps both) are profoundly disturbed, perhaps mentally ill?- “our lady of the various sorrows, some saved some borrowed some stolen , some kept, safe for tomorrow”, whereas the singer speaks as though he has a disturbing and ultimately fatalistic god-complex, coupled with a seemingly contradictory inferiority - (“I was sent to her to put things right.... so I stacked all my accomplishments beside her...still I seemed so obsolete and small.... I found GOD: now his devil’s inside Her”. From the first person narrative, it’s nearly impossible to know which one is crazier, if the “beloved” is a projection of the singers interpretation... and far from reality...etc.- gahhhh it doesn’t matter, it’s poetry -
Forgive me , I’m the daughter of an English prof and analysis is practically par for discourse -but I hate it when I dissect the most essential thing about a poem/lyric right out of the song- the vague, mysterious enchanting muddied water, or the questions that want to remain unanswered- dwelling in infinite possibilities

It was a quiet night. I was in a room and bed I never been in before in my life in a faraway town. I was a 13 year old kid and tomorrow would be my first national math competition. My nerves were about to explode. The host's family turned up the radio for some reason and this music started playing. The haunting intensity of this song highlighted this strange moment of my life. I fell asleep relaxed.
I did well the next day. Thank you song. Just thought I'd share this.

This is the very first Nick Cave song I heard. I was 17, I woke up in the middle of the night and this video was on the TV I had fallen asleep in front of. He's been my favourite singer since. Love at first sight.

His video's seem to have a very 'Tarrantino' feel to them...Multiple talents from this man! When I first heard him speak I was overwelmed by the fact that he sounds little like his vocals in his music. What a talented band!
And I use the word 'Band' to enthesise the fact that it's not just him...The guitars. The Base. The Drums. Man, it's all amazing!

I remember listening this album back in '94, i didn't know him & the Bad Seeds but what a revelation it was! Let Love In is one of the best album of the 90's: a true masterpiece!

Also, people don't know what underrated means...they seem to think fame is required (even though this video has four million views) as opposed to how they're viewed by those who know of them. A song could be heard by one single person, and if that person loved it, it would be very highly rated.

I agree! This band is huge, and I think it's a shame so many people only give credit to Nick. The rest of the guys are brilliant musicians (besides Mick and Blixa are two of my favorite people in the world).
About the Tarantino-feel: the video is directed by John Hillcoat, the director behind The Road, the Proposition and Lawless. So yes, it has his sort of mean, violent streak.
