"Unhinged, the first ever silver-bordered set in history" Unglued: "I know I don't have a creator god, Urza's head or stickers, but I'm not an nonentity!"
Hopefully he just meant it was the first silver bordered set with foil cards, because that would be true. Unfortunately I can't read minds, so I can't tell.
7th edition is special in part because it's the first core set with foils and the last core set with the old boarder. But also, wizards decided that they wanted to tell a story unique to 7th edition and as such every single card in the set had new art at the time of printing. So for a lot of cards, it's the only version of that art in foil.
all you'd need is to get possibly the most famous living Japanese visual artist to do more MTG art commissions, which considering that this man literally get paid probably 7 figures in USD by Square Enix just to illustrate the logos of new final fantasy games, can't be cheap. either he really likes Magic (which is possible) or wizards gave him a huge amount of money for that one Lilliana art.
14:00 another great synergy card for Grim Monolith you can get infinite mana with is Mana Reflection. You get 6 mana from tapping the Monolith and you can then untap it for 4.
Watching this video made me realize how much my MtG cards increased in value over time, even if I don't own any of these super-expensive ones 😱😱😱 To think that 20 years ago I bought all the fetchlands for 8-12 € each, and now they are 40-50+ € 😁
This list is painful. Coming from the heathen days of playing unsleeved cards, I'm in tears. I had 2 original foil fetches, Wooded Foothills and Bloodstained Mire. Both played and beaten up and no longer in a condition to be played. Too bad the Mint Condition Mire from Tarkir block I cracked won't go for anywhere near that much.
Richard Garfield PHD checks mana cost, not mana value, which plays very differently. For example an opt can be played as a consider, but not as a wayfarer's bauble.
Yes true but nizzahon is sponsored by card kingdom, Which to me is cool because we get more videos. Also I have used card kingdom just to support him. Using card kingdom pricing for the whole list should keep the order of the list correct even if ebay is a little cheaper
@@TransformersTalkRAW when i get expensive cards I'd rather get it from a good source so that's why card kingdom is awesome. Also their prices for magic supplies are normal.
Honestly, I really like the old frames and foil on them. I've even bought cards that specifically have both for some decks. Unfortunately, they are often more expensive than normal cards
I apologize if anyone has already mentioned this, but I believe the red neon ink version of Hidetsugu is over $1000, which should knocked Richard Garfield off this list.
Cracked a foil Shivan from a pack of 7th my brother gave me on my birthday years ago, I knew someday it'd be worth something so it went straight into a hard case. Never expected it to end up being worth THAT much, though. I really need to get that graded.
Liking the branching out. I don't have the time to delve into these type of things but I find them very interesting. Good job great video long time subscriber. Looking forward to the next one.
I think that's the only way to get that artwork of Birds Of Paradise with the black border with the old frame; which happens to be my favorite version.
This list hurts. I had a foil Slobad Deck earlier in my life with both Metalworker $300, and Grim Monolith $350 in it. After having it for years without those prices changing, I decided to sell it as it was no longer good enough for my meta. It was the week after selling it that the prices on both these cards started their hike :( .
Mercadian Masques, Invasion, and Odyssey foils could also potentially be as rare as 7th edition, we just don’t have any information on print run like we do with 7th. They were also large 350 card sets with 120 possible rares and low foil pull rates.
I'd be interested in "Top 10 cards." (Perhaps worded as "Top 10 most played cards in competitive Magic.") Similarly, I'd love to see "Top 10 Most Expensive Cards." (Though I think most of them would be somewhat obvious, the order would be interesting.) In particular, I'd like to see "Top 10 Worst Cards (In My Opinion)" simply because I'm curious about your opinion. Lastly, I would love to see "Top 10 Silver-Bordered Cards." As subjective as that list would be, I think it would make for a great video, perhaps around April Fools' Day or something.
Ah, yes. I recall that I had an underground river purchase from 9th edition, on Tcg Player. Was listed for $45 for some reason and then they messaged me saying it was actually a 7th edition foil. They then insisted I add an additional $800 for them to ship it. I declined and bought a tenth edition foil. Now they are 5$ from Brother’s War and I feel slightly silly for it.
I once went to the store to sell my cards in bulk. I had a plastic bag full of silver border cards with me, and the guy said to leave it aside for a moment, while we focused on the "serious" cards, first. He put them on the ground, behind the counter. After I left, I realised I had just left them in the store, but since I had separated the Unglued and Unhinged basic lands from them, I didn't really care. The mono-blue, silver bordered deck I had dismantled had not one, but two 900$ worth foil Richard Garfield, Ph.D.'s in it. 😡😡😡
Wait ! The "Mud" legacy deck got it's name for the brownish, muddy color of the ols artifacts, not for some funny word play like "Metalworker Ultimate Domination", innit ??? Also, not Fridays, it's Monday ! ^^

They only appear as super duper rare foils, so they didn't technically meet the requirements of this video (that they are a foil version of a card that was part of the same set).
Especially because so many of them have come back damaged or Miss cut. That really has to drive the prices up when .5-2% are not visually viable of a particular card.

I tried so hard to get some of my friends who were living in Japan at the time War of the Spark came out to try and crack packs or find a copy of Liliana because I wanted that art so badly, but ht just wasn't happening. I struggle to justify paying over $10 for a single, let alone the $200 for that version of Liliana without the foil treatment.
Bought a few of the Amano Lilliana week one of the set release for $400-600 each, probably the best investment I’ve ever made, but I’m absolutely never going to ever consider selling them, Amano art is just too good.

And would help show when it's 'actually' an expensive card in general or if that one printing is a special version of a totally bog-standard, cheap-as-pringles bit of cardboard everyone else is playing for mere cents.
