I was 100% sure, but only because there are nine of them and the most recent one is in demand. If you’re not actively tracking metas and prices, “the swords were good but I don’t hear them talked about much anymore?” it can be a shot in the dark to ballpark demand and comparison. What really surprised me was finding out that even if WotC reprints then all in celebration of the 10th sword coming out to finally complete the Mega MegaCycle and their value tanks, they’d still make the list. I was kind of expecting the other high demand meta stuff to be in the $20+ range, not the $5-15 band.
@@olafthemoose9413 Not with all the swords lumped into one slot they don't. Notice that even with legendary equipment the bottom slots are still sub $15
Wow, for once, I actually own the most expensive item on a "Most Expensive" list. I have one copy of Sword of Fire and Ice that I pulled from a Darksteel pack way back then. And yes, the tenth sword has indeed been revealed by now-- Sword of Once and Future.
Thornbite Staff on a Krenko, Mob Boss with any sort of sac outlet (like a Skirk Goblin Prospector) and you have a limitless supply of goblins. This is especially effective if you have a Goblin Warchief on the table for the +1/+1 and Haste to all Goblins. As a backup you can also stock up on red haste spells to give your goblins haste as you would also have an unlimited amount of red mana from the prospector. BTW, you can usurp almost any attempt to stop the combo by just responding with the next step (tap Krenko, sac token to prospector, untap Krenko, repeat).
It might be interesting to talk about pricing history of these cards, too. It would be interesting to know how much more or less expensive cards were during certain formats.
I was seriously wondering why the Sword of X & Y were not on the list and now I know why. I really enjoy this series especially going into details about the cost of some of these cards. A great addition.
I think everyone is a fan of the price related lists, plus they seem a lot easier to do. I honestly thought that #1 was gonna be some obscure crap from Alpha, until I remembered that equips weren't introduced until Mirrodin. But you know what has existed since before Mirrodin? My desire for "Top 10 Vintage Cards (Minus Power 9)"! Yeah, when I was 2 I wanted that list!
8:42 Thornbite is better paired with Kiki Jiki being a shaman and then making a clones of Mogg Fanatic and you can sac the clones to deal 1 damage to a player and the death trigger of clone mogg untaps Kiki Jiki
I was expecting, if it were considered eligible, that Tawnos' Weaponry, the original proto-Equipment, would have been pretty high on the list. But nope, its Antiquities printing isn't even $3.
I'm surprised that Sword of Hearth and Home is less than $20. It combo's with a ham sandwich and is amazing value without combo's. I don't think people realize it's true potential
Not exactly related to the list, but I'm a BIG fan of the Kaladesh masterpieces. All of them command quite a hefty price tag but they are special printings which disqualify them for this list :(
Thornbite Staff is one of those infinite combo cards I will say I originally cut from a deck but included “cause there was a cool shaman in the deck” to justify it hehehe.
so .. commander demand can make an uncommon... rather bad equipment worth 20$+ .. no wonder wotc pushes commander as hard as they do ... and while I used to love the sords of x and y .. back when the first ones came out .. I cut them all from my cube .. their play pattern is mostly boring and only the OG mom is allowed to give protection in my cube ^^
Don't know why Sword of Dungeons and Dragons is just a silver border. I think it would have done perfectly with Forgotten realms or Balders Gate promo.
Would have preferred the swords to have been discussed each in their appropriate respective spot on the list. The whole reason I personally watch the top 10 videos is to learn and understand WHY each card is a big deal. In this video we just got "Here's a pile of swords that are all great"... Boooo. I wanted to know WHY each sword is great. What decks are they great in and why? Sigh...
I'm 10% certain that the Swords of X and Y are going to have to share a rank
Edit: nailed it!
Only 10%?

My most expensive pull was the boxtopper of feast and famine. I don't have a place to put it yet, but I was excited
Considering how many of these are legendary it would be interesting to see what a list would look like with legendary artifacts excluded 🤔
Wizards doesn't print enough good equipment for the list to not be loaded with dollar rares.
@@superbaas8822 the list is literally for the most expensive equipment out there. Ofc all of the cards will be somewhat expensive.

It's 2pm here in Japan but I have to spread the gospel of Teeka's Dragon. Wizards are cowards, they haven't made any equipment that gives Rampage!
Dude give it up lol

Monday is a curse.
But new top 10 is nice

they would be the whole list. I'm surprised there's no Batterskull though.

Ayy, a vid to listen to as I fall asleep.
This video made me realize we could genuinely do a "Top 10 Sword of X and Y" now that the cycle is complete
Thornbite Staff is one of those infinite combo cards I will say I originally cut from a deck but included “cause there was a cool shaman in the deck” to justify it hehehe.
Nah, you should just cut your infinite combos.
I had never noticed the reaver cleaver was legendary... is there a reason? does it appear in the lore? or is it purely for balance reason?
It didn't factor into the Dominaria United story at all. I'm guessing it's just to keep it from being copied.
The deck had a legendary theme.
Where is commander's plate lol
Edit: there is a NM one currently on sale on CK for 21.99 which makes it tied for 5th place along with thornbite staff
Commander's Plate? Sword of Kaldra? Lucille?
umm why isn't Commander's Plate on the list? did I miss something?
Now that all the swords have been shown maybe in the future they'll put them on ravnica as reprints
Didn’t realize my pile of Jittes was worth money, good to know lol
I'm shocked Batterskull didn't make the list, or Kaldra Complete.
"This is arguably the best equipment ever printed" 4:38
I know it's pretty strong, but skullclamp is far and away better.
I think the distinction is you use jitte as an actual equipment to do something with but you use skull clamp as essentially pay 1 sac a X/1 Draw 2.
That's fair, I suppose.
Aren't Commander's Plate and maybe Lucille missing ?
Who else hadn’t realized until this vid that there is not yet a Dimir colored “things and stuff” sword, and what do we think it should be called?
There actually is, it will be coming out in March of the Machine.
Isn’t commander’s plate also kind of expensive?
Yeah right now it's $22.99 on Card Kingdom's NM pricing so it would've been at #4
