Hey I've got 4 of these plus two extra big pad controllers and a raftload of different wii, wiiu and gamecube controllers. One is loaded with gamecube library, one is loaded with wii library, one loaded with wii u library and one is a backup in the closet in case one of the others goes down. Def the best Nintendo emulation option atm.
I’ve started down the path of modding my WiiU but I get paranoid that I’m going to brick it so I chicken out and go back to stock. Plus it always seems like there’s a dozen different apps that all do the same thing and it’s tough to tell which one to use. Is it safe enough in that there’s a path back if you run into issues?
There is a path back say if your Wii U bricks: gbatemp.net/threads/guide-kaflukes-hardmod-cbhc-unbrick-guide.476725/ However, it requires hard modding (You need some basic soldering skills but you can do this post-brick) your Wii U, and having a backup of otp.bin. (Most tutorials that show how to jailbreak a Wii U have backing up the nand included so chances are you already have this just check to make sure). Alternatively, you can go to a local repair shop and they might do the procedure for you, I've heard some stories of this being how some people saved their Wii U, this will cost more than just buying the parts and doing it yourself ofc. TL;DR There is a way to restore your Wii U if it bricks, but it's kinda difficult + requires soldering, and it's much better to straight up avoid bricking in the first place. (Don't mess with banners, nand files, don't install sketchy software and always keep a nand backup on standby in the event you ever need it).
Typical Wii U video "This console sold poorly, It was so unpopular, nobody wanted It, they couldn't understand the name, nintendo's marketing wasn't there so they killed It and put all the games on the switch, It was such a colossal failure that satoru iwata died so here's why I like It"

Thank you! The Wii U isn’t a bad option in 2023 considering how cheap it is, however a flaw was recently discovered where the system nand just gives out after not being used for a while, so if you were to buy a Wii U that’s something to account for.
hey, so at the moment i dont own a wii or a wii u. i have a jailbroken 3ds, so i have hShop on it, are there any things like it? I dont want to pay for games.
Ct-GPU works online yes, but if you want to play the vanilla maps you’ll have to launch MK8 in its vanilla form. (It doesn’t ban you or put you on some kind of blacklist if that’s what you’re worried about).
As far as I know, there are no youtube homebrew apps for Wii U, the website still works for youtube tho, as for netflix there's no app for wii u however there's an application for Wii (that you can just install on your vWii) called PlayOn that lets you stream from netflix, disney plus, etc. Catch is I think it costs money
You can get RUclips from Nusspli, but i need to sign in everytime from a phone (works without signing in tho), so not worth it for me. It seems to only use the gamepad, perhaps I missed a setting? IIRC Netflix just errors out?
I don't know if it works on yt and Netflix (RUclips on Wii u is insanely laggy, so I don't reccomend getting it) but pretendo is a service that is giving games like Splatoon and Mario maker their servers back artificially.
I’d advice against buying the Wii U (at least until a fix pops up for the issue I’m about to mention) rn especially if you already have the Wii, mainly because a flaw was recently discovered with the Wii U’s nand storage that if you don’t use the console for a good amount of time it straight up dies. Ofc look into this yourself and decide if it’s worth the risk personally but If you already have a Wii, it’s got plenty of great homebrew already and there’s not much that you can get on Wii U that’s not been ported over to the Switch.
Some games do work exclusively on the gamepad (Legend Of Zelda, Super Mario 3D World, all OG Wii & Gamecube games), and some don't (Splatoon, Zombi U, Wii Party U). It all comes down to which Wii U games straight up REQUIRE two screens and which ones play just fine with one. Here's an extensive list of all Wii U games that can play just on the gamepad: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Off-TV_Play
!!PLEASE HELP!! i have a 32gb wii u which has been connected to a HDD for years and it has a bunch of precious data on it. Does homebrewing the wii u hurt that hdd in anyway? Am i still able to play games with data on the hdd?
It should work fine since homebrewing only really tinkers with the SD card and Nand. I'd keep it unplugged whilst undergoing the homebrew process just to be safe, however.
I have a modded Wii U and would love to try some of these, I'm just wondering if my connected switch Nintendo account could get banned, are there certain things I should be careful about?
From personal experience I’ve played modded games online on my Wii U (Which has my Nintendo switch account linked) *cough cough* ct gp-u for about a year now and I haven’t gotten a ban and I just looked online and it seems to be the same case for everyone else. You should definitely backup your Wii U nand ASAP, the last thing you want is for your console to brick and the only thing that’s stopping you from recovering it is a lack of a nand backup. Another thing I 100000% recommend is jailbreaking your vWii and backing up its nand as well as installing priiloader on it. That way if worst comes worst and you can’t recover your Wii U for whatever reason you can boot into Wii mode and use it as a regular Wii lol. Watch out for shady downloads too, i know this is common sense but there’s a virus for the Wii U that perma-bricks it and locks your game pad screen on a png of a brick wall lol. One last thing, be careful with custom launchers and custom banners, I’ve heard horror stories where some people made their banner only a few pixels too wide and it bricked their vWii entirely.
I followed this tutorial: ruclips.net/video/6ZW2AyyhHj4/видео.html (The GameCube controller adapter in this video isn't needed) Keep in mind that not only your Wii U has to be modded but your vWii as well (Modding your vWii is a very trivial task and there are plenty of tutorials on youtube, I recommend the one from Blaine Locklair) Once you got Nintendont app working on your vWii just install the nintendont forwarder via Wup Installer (It may already show up on your homebrew menu depending on what version of homebrew you installed, but it still won't let you play exclusively on the gamepad unless you install the forwarder)
@@SuperAwesomeGuy - Wow. Thankyou so much for this very good explanation.
