In germany we say "To clean for the wash, to dirty for the closet? Welcom to the chair!" Maybe an option is to put up some hooks at the door? The over the door type hooks, so you could juse hangers for airing out... and you don't have to put nails or other stuff in your walls
I like the idea of a wall mounted wooden ladder that you hang clothes on. I've seen pictures of it online, and I think it looks beautiful. I also think it could work work your antique asthethic.
Seconding the ladder idea, but if a suitable one can’t be found etc, i could recommend a clothes butler? There are ones that have shoulder-shaped parts, to hang a dress-shirt etc there, and maybe there are ones, that don’t look too modern, or maybe there are some vintage or antique ones?
I have a clear acrylic tube that I found at a business that was closing. Its about waist high. I use it as a clothes horse for the "could be worn again" pile and in a pinch a standing laptop stand. Its lightweight and clear and doesnt really add to clutter thankfully
I'm an unscented *everything* person. My dad has sensitive skin, so I grew up with everything unscented, and then when I started grocery shopping on my own, I didn't think about it, and got scented detergent, and found out that I *also* have sensitive skin. I broke out in hives, and found out that heavily scented things is also a migraine trigger for me. So that was fun. It's one of the biggest issues for me buying used clothes; laundry scent *does not* come out.
Oh boy, do I hear you, I'd all but given up on thrifting clothes because of scent sensitivities... "Scent Away" or other hunter's laundry detergent works wonders on removing human and artificial scents. Here in Canada, Canadian Tire carries it.
@@blueiris6813 Putting it in the sun can also help. It might take a few days but it also makes them smell amazing. We have an ozone generator because we live in an old stinky house. We clean as we fix things and ozone to control what we can't clean or can't get to yet. You cannot use them with living creatures in the area especially birds, there's lots of safety videos online about it. But I have used it to remove the Home Goods air freshener stench on a chair I got from craigslist. It took 3 1-hour cycles because I did it in such a big room. When I got it I had to keep it on the porch in the sun for a few days and it helped but the smell was so deep inside the fabric.
@@kellyrose3905 yes! Such as annoying issue buying from op shops…I have had a few items I have needed to soak in vinegar to remove the smell. 90% of the time is works, but I have been unlucky a few times & have NOT been able to remove the heavy perfume at all, so have ended up taken things back to the op shop.
@@sapphirecamui6447 I've had STRONG laundry scents linger for YEARS (not kidding, this one pair of socks my sis gave me... whew!) through multiple multiple washes and drys and probably several line drying times
Boston, Massachusetts also has moving day! every lease is up on the same day and I believe it also includes the college dorm rooms as well. As for the washing machine... keep it as long as possible! If you do need to upgrade keep with a top loader with a agitator. Currently have a front load and it's the bane of my existence. I have to do multiple small loads and I have to wash all bedding twice to get them properly clean. I have literally pulled clothes out that have dry spots because the water never even touched it. I miss the washing machine of my childhood, i was able to do big loads and everything got clean in one go!
I totally agree. My washer bit the dust when everything was so hard to get. So I had to buy one without an agitator, that's all that I could find, and I HATE it! Nothing gets clean. And I hear a lot of folks with front loaders hate them as well because of the odors. Now I'm finding agitator style back in stock, so if you could get one, get it! After your old one bites it, cuzz why waste a perfectly working machine?
That's my laundry plan, too. Sitting here for 16 hours doesn't make my clothes dirty. Showering before bed doesn't make my pajamas dirty. Working outside however or a house project is a totally different wearing experience. You've really got a BIG load in that washer. Have you considered putting your basket on the floor and loading and unloading from there? Also shaking the items outdoors before loading... I have a GSD who sheds 11 months, 3 weeks, and 6 days a year.
I’m here for it all! My partner and I are restoringish a 1914 Craftsman bungalow. I’ve spent the summer repairing and replacing cedar shakes and painting. Next spring is a new roof. I tackled all 22 windows 3 years ago. Unfortunately, someone had removed most of the old windows and stuck plexiglass on with caulk 😢, so I put in interior mount replacement windows while keeping the old frame and beautiful molding. It’s a long process, and your videos often keep me company while I’m working.
also, I really love the "you have so many minutes to do the thing: put this on in the background" warning. That is usually what I am looking for, but sometimes I am blindsided with something I want to listen more closely to and stop doing the thing as a result. it's good to know up front that I can passively listen and not miss that much, sorta like when body doubling with another chatty AuDHDer but we both know it's just parallel play out loud and we might not retain anything the other says.
I put down my knitting to give my hands a break and 39:30 is the first time I started properly looking at the video, and for some reason the fact that you bothered not only filming, but also editing in b-roll of your hands washing the dishes is hilarious to me. The dedication!
I meannnnn.... my standards for a "non-edited video" are still fairly high. Its just not going to be 30+ hours of editing, but there's still several dozen camera changes in here!
@@shannonmakessomethingelse What was the estimated edit time? I didn't see it at the end of the video like on the main channel. While I was watching this I was assembling a garment rack I found new in box on the beach with friends at a Christmas sweater bar crawl over 6 years ago back home in Florida. I had a tree fall through my bedroom an hour after I went to bed friday morning during the hurricane. Luckily we still had the billboard tarp from the slip and slide we had on 4th of july so minimal water damage. We immediately moved everything out so nothing was ruined but the roof and the drywall over the bed where the branch poked through about 4 ft over my chest. I was so glad I did alllll my laundry the day before the storm because I haven't had time to do laundry *AND* it meant that when I was jumping out of bed I didn't slip on dirty laundry.
Hanging out with you was priceless. I live in Northeast Florida and we had a hurricane last night. A pretty bad one. But I was able to hook up my hotspot on my phone, and watch you on RUclips. It was very soothing in a distracting kind of way. 😂 I’m going to watch Charlie next. 😂❤
A clutter reduction tip : trays. You probably will find some trays in your attic. An old breakfast tray might be ideal for all your small electronics, to keep them together and move everything you might need where ever you settle to work. A small tea tray is ideal for sewing tools and notions on your craft table. not only will they keep your things together and within reach; they also eliminate visual clutter. You may remember how your grandmother kept her lotions etc. on a tray on the dresser. it tells your brain that there is one thing on the dresser rather than a dozen. Its the same principal as keeping the dishes in the dishpan.
I can tell you haven't watched my sewing room tour video because I spend several minutes extolling the virtues of my catch-all notions tray 🤣🤣 Unfortunately with all the filming devices we've got around here, its gonna take more than a tray to wrangle them all up and make them behave and look seemly
You know the song that goes "give it away give it away now!" my ADHD mantra is PUT IT AWAY PUT IT AWAY AND NOT DOWN! if I can't put it away I have landing pads at each door to the outside and in the kitchen and living room so that if I can't expend the energy to put it away I can get it closer to its home. Both of my parents were probably ADHD. My dad drank 6 to 9 cups of coffee a day and so he could sleep which all of us do now as adults. But I realized that our parents were messy and would get mad at us for having messy rooms but they never gave us the skills to learn HOW TO CLEAN. Its absolutely a skill that needs to be taught and learned because I didn't get the hang of it til I got adderall at age 36 (44 now) and then reddit taught me how to ADHD clean and the modern algorithm has showed me more. Having a home for all your stuff is key. And I have a lotta stuff lol but I have a clean house for the first time in my life and its SUCH a mental load off.
I used this particular video as a reward! Every procrastinated chore that I finished was another 15 minutes of Shannon-dose of happiness. I am proud to say I got to watch the whole thing!
I know that you like antiques and funky. Make a rack for the wall from a finished piece of wood (an unused table leaf, or something similar. Then arrange antique hooks, or even old door knobs. Arranged in a pleasing way. Hang it on the wall. You must have something salvaged that would work. Good luck!
I'm an unscented kind of girl when it comes to laundry soap. Also, thank you for helping me procrastinate on my therapy homework while I cleaned my space along with you cleaning yours. 😁
I'm only an unscented laundry soap person because the scented ones are WAY too strong for me. I get headaches. I'd like SOME fresh scent but with the way it is, I'm buying unscented. :/
@@Thirikalee ok, hear me out: what if you found a scent you liked, and then mixed it 50/50 (or even 25/75 if that was too strong) with unscented, so you got just a *hint* of fresh?!?!
I'm definitely unscented. I can't even walk down the detergent aisle without getting a headache. 😅 It's ok I don't miss having scented laundry. Clean doesn't have a smell.
I love videos like these! It's like spending a couple of hours with a friend, keeping them company and helping them with chores while chatting away. I'm loving this channel and its grab-bag nature, never knowing exactly what you're going to get! So fun!
I would love more videos like this! ❤ You've just helped me make breakfast, fold laundry, make the bed, water my plants, sort out clothes that need mending, eat breakfast, pack away the big batch of breakfast for the coming days, and oiled my cutting board + putting things away so I can clean. All while inspiring me to work more on my renovations. ❤ I watched this video when it came out but searched for it specifically today to help me body double for all the things I ran around doing (it was about as straightforward as when you wanted to put the laundry in the machine 😂). I really enjoy your other videos as well but I want to watch them and then it is hard to do other stuff except knitting at the same time and boy do I have a lot of other things to do. Thank you for the help! ❤
Totally agree on people washing too often! Fragrance free here. Love the corgi footage! The sound of his little steps is adorable. Nice that you have some supportive neighbors, and hope you get some new wheels soon!
I had a stack of clothes that sit in a spot in my room! I do exactly the same thing you do! I'm glad I'm not the only one. I see so many wear something once, and it may have been only on their person for a half hour? They then throw it in the wash!
I use an over the door hook holder that has 5 double hooks on it, for my not quite dirty enough to wash. It has worked well for me for years. As my father would say blessings on you! Pam
As to the tablecloth+tornado human things, my mother-in-law superglued strong magnets to the underside of the edge of the table and uses those instead of the clips, they're a little less noticeable and stronger. She has a very heavy cat (Charlie isn't unhealthy or anything, he's just a brick of muscle) who likes to climb up on the table and the magnets keep the cloth on!
Really enjoyed this style of video. It was a great motivator! I cleaned my craft space, watered plants, and did some laundry while listening / watching. Nice to get some real-time updates on your place!
I am a senior in Florida and my lifestle is fairly quiet. I often wear my capris, tops several times but between wearings I inspect them, shake them out, put them on a hanger, air them and return to closet next day. Saves wear and tear and effort on my part.
I agree about not washing worn-but-not-dirty clothes as ecologically and financially sound policy. I used to us the traditional chair, but the clothes got so wrinkled I didn't want to wear them. Then I found a closet bar that hangs over the top of a door and hung it on the outside of the closet door, and that's my place for lightly worn clothes. You know the labels you liked on the Brookside sheets so you don't struggle to figure out which are the short sides? It's easy to make your own. My mother-in-law would take a stitch in a contrasting color at the bottom edge of sheets and blankets, leaving a cm or so of loose thread. I take a lazier approach and just make a small mark with a black Sharpie pen. I know you didn't solicit advice, but I'm claiming the old person's perogative of offering it anyway. 😄 Hang on to that washing machine for as long as you can. When it breaks, repair it. The newer machines don't last. They have computer circuit boards in them which wear out in 3 or 4 years, and the cost to replace the computer is almost as much as a new washing machine. My appliance repairman actually bought a set of old Kenmore washer and dryer for his parents, because they last so much longer and, according to him, get the clothes cleaner. If you have to keep replacing the new ones, saving on your water bill is a false economy.
I've never tried a body doubling video before, this was amazing!! I got so much done and actually enjoyed do it. Definitely happy to watch more like this, thank you Shannon :)
I've thrifted (my local thrift stores always have a few) several quilt racks for slinging once-worn clothes over. The racks fit in smaller corners and the clothes can be spread out over the spindles so they can air out and they don't get too wrinkled
Whenever you have a heavy thing to move, use the walking stone method. Tip to the side swivel back, tip to the other side, repeat till it gets where you need it. To go up the stairs, lay it down and shove.
Oh how well I know that feeling of moving things from one place to another and hoping that THIS time some of those items will miraculously find a more permanent home. I should be ironing alllll of those pesky patchwork scraps but I'm currently laid up with a bad leg. The cat is extremely pleased about me staying still!
Thank you for being so honest and open about your house caos, I feel you; my house feels the same every weekend and I feel exhausted physically and mentally so.... I hug us both 🫂
I’m anxiously waiting to hear all the solutions people offer for the “not dirty enough for laundry “ pile next to your bed! The pile next to my bed has 2 denim shirts, 3 tshirts - 1 for the cold of a foggy 65f on one day, 2 for the sleeveless tank for the 96F the next day and 3 for the short sleeve I wear doing chores plus one pr of sweats for cold days and one pr of linen for the hot to warm days! It’s Fall so our weather is a roller coaster!
I absolutely love these rambling, this and that, videos!! So sorry about the car situation! I hate car stuff! Having such a big cash hit like that always seems to happen at the worst time! That room with the washer doesn’t look like a tornado hit! It looks like a house that has big projects happening! I think the little desk would make a great place for your coffee station! Thanks for making these videos. And of course including lots of Corgi footage.
Merci pour la compagnie! J’en ai profité pour faire du ménage dans ma van (une Ford 1980) , un peu nostalgique qu’on en soit à nos dernières fins de semaine de camping !
Hi Shannon, I am so with you about the clothes, we can judge if they need to be washed or not yet. There is no time frame or sequences to do the laundry, it is when it is needed. We use our nose, smell the fabric and take a decision, as long as we wash ourself often, of course. For those clothes not ready to go in the washer machine, the best solution is to use 2 long hooks (which won't exceed the number of hangers needed) attached to the wall that can rotate to the wall if not in use (same way as a plant wall rack that can be positioned more to the left, the middle or to the right), that way you can place hangers on then, one for your t-shirts and so and the other one for your pants. The air will circulate, they won't wrinkle and the room will look tidy. For the coffee filters, it is better to place them upside down, avoiding dust/insects from accumulating into it. Happy for the weee thing when Cannelle jumped on the bed !
One of those accordion hook wall hangings would be perfect for your “worn & not dirty” clothes! You also could use a “blanket ladder” or thrift and old worn ladder & drape your clothes there. :) good luck!
Corgi blink! Thanks for the company, I just crocheted along, drank tea and rested, a much needed "activity" after an intensive weekend. Looking forward to seeing all the sorting/decorating stuff around the house :)
I wash with Peppermint tea smells like gum. Since I am stopping chores at 8 hours, my hand quilt as you go project is leaping forward. Today I finished cutting 320 octagonal batting pieces. Formerly a used moving blanket.
When I had an empty wall next to my side of the bed, I tossed hooks up on the wall and hung once-worn clothes. HIGHLY recommend something like that, and frankly I miss it in the current bedroom. (Fragrance free only, as a couple of us in the house get scent-triggered migraines!)
You can make some pot holders take all your fabric scraps the smaller ones and cut them up for stuffing wrap them in a thin piece of fabric quilt them up and that'll make them thick enough and then put some good fabric on the outside
I know the fireplace mantle is currently your coffee station, but it is a wonderful width for a charging station. If you make it black marble again, you get a cold black surface to help keep your charging items cool and the (mostly black) chargers blend in nicely. If the black is too different from the rest of the room, you could paint the trim gray to blend nicely.
Yeah, I think that coffee area surface on that mantle should be cleared of paint just that area and leave the rest of it.White I think that would be real pretty. It is a very gorgeous piece and I do love that little table!❤
I think that frequently clothes don’t “wear” out. They fall apart through over washing. I hope the garage that supplied the transmission got (at very least!) an earful!
Today i was a bit productive in other ways than work, but I'm getting there too. I went through my "fabric stash"/boxes with fabrics and other items, i sorted almost all of them out, and from 2 big, a medium and a small box, now i have 2 big boxes with fabric, 1 box with knitting/crocheting stuff. I also did laundry, i need to throw in another load, i did 2-3? rounds of dishes [we have a small, portable dishwasher, very useful tbh]. i almost finished a piece of work project [so for money], and while i was watching/listening to you, i sewed some ribbons to a neck pillow - i almost lost the pillow during one trip, and the pillow was bought THIS year. It has a case too, to protect it while on the road. so thanks for the company!
@@shannonmakessomethingelse OMG! sempai noticed me! I killed it, yea, and i wasn't done either o.o I decided to look into this box [we call it "good juju" box, and see if everything in there was indeed "good juju" - of curse it wasn't, so i got to separate things and i found places for everything [from other boxes i cas considering decluttering or find better storage for). i lost count but i think i reorganized a total of 4 or 5 boxes, and i think i went to bed after i put everything back where it 'belonged'. Now, i have some 5-6-7? boxes that i need to go through but i already know more or less what they contain - crafting stuff. Current arrangement is not working out for me. Good luck in your endeavors too! you need a bit more luck it seems. :D Oh, do circuses still use clowns? clowns terrify me, LOL. It may have something to do with Stephen King's book/movies IT, but i highly doubt it. i vaguely remember going to the circus as a kid, possibly with the school? And at a certain moment, clowns started appearing and walking through the chairs searching for kids -to give them candy?balloons? And my subconscious was telling me 'not to trust these people because they're bad" i believe i managed to avoid them then. worse than a nightmare, this memory. lol. I would like to come to a show of yours if you are to come to Europe again.
I along with thousands of people went to see the Prince and Princess when they visited Shelburne, NS. I am cleaning out my mother's house and I just came across the pictures.
I was planning in doing laundry and dusting while listening to your video. My Chow Chow had other plans. He decided to have an upset tummy all over my living room. I just spent the last 3 hours cleaning carpets which then I had to clean the toilet because I dumped the gucky water from the carpet down it. Then I had to scrub the tub because that is where I cleaned the shampooer when I was done with it. Oh the joys of having fur babies. ❤
I had a great time with you. I love me some tidying! I spent the whole time spinning yarn, so it was extra fun to see you wheel at the very end. That Charles and Di poster will be a collector's item one day, especially given all that has happened since that tour. I would put it in plastic and put it away. One little bit of contrasting thread sewn to the short end of your fitted sheet will make putting it on correctly a snap! I sure hope you find just the car you wish for.
it's so hard to live in chaos, and it's so hard to do a home rehab without there being chaos; it will be all better though, eventually. Love that you brought Cannelle's fainting couch. I hope Phil is successful at finding a good car for you; and it lasts a good long time.
I love your channel, no matter what you/hubby are working on. I have a couple special blankets to cut down the cat hair on my comforter, she knows that is her spot to sleep/nap. Maybe Ms. Canal might do the same. It helps a lot.
For worn clothes that can be worn again I like a wooden ladder (there are even special ones for clothes). Doesnt take up too much space and can be easy put to a different place if you are rearranging :)
Oh my gosh, I loved this. The perfect knitting video. I sat here knitting whilst enjoying listening to you chat. I LOVE Canneles snoozing corner. I hope you never paint the wall behind her bed, it's so vintage Italian plaster. Beautiful! Thank you for always putting out some of the best videos on RUclips, I love each n' every one of them. No lie, you are my favorite RUclipsr. (I also loved that you refered to Phil as the "human tornado." Hahaha, made me laugh. I'm familiar with his species!) 🤣😁🤪
Hi loved watching this. Making a macrame pumpkin gifted to me. A thought on your bedroom hook situation. When we built I found antique hooks, got a 1 x 6. Cut it to fit the section of wall and mounted the hooks to that. 2 holes instead of 4 or more. Stained board and routed edges. Love it and hang my clothes that don't need washing, so with you there. Not dirty but don't want to wear next day😊. You are doing such a good job, if I wasn't in the USA and near 80 years young, 😊 I'd love to be there to help. We faced many of the same challenges you are facing now and I'm here to tell you, it will get better but so much ahead. Sending good thoughts and wishes to you both. ❤
The quick and easy option for hanging clothes that are worn but not for the wash is hooks on the door, much nicer than the floor. The house is looking so much better now. ❤
Hi, I'm doing house maintenance paperwork while watching :) I am team unscented laundry soap! I tend to throw thrifted finds in with regular laundry and that'll "taint" a whole load with the strong scents of other people's laundry soap. I don't mind things that are lightly scented but laundry stuff is generally SCENTED!!!! I would say keep your old washing machine until it dies on you. Older washers are often easy to repair, I've replaced the feed dogs on mine, thanks youtube for the help! If you are in a part of the world where you aren't in a desert and aren't drawing from an underground aquifer and you have good water treatment, the additional water usage isn't that big of a deal. You are already economizing on water usage by only laundering things when they truly need it :)
Yes! Had another commenter say that they had read a study (admittedly published in Germany, but still, probably holds true on my side of the drink) that upgrading washers is fairly negligible in terms of energy savings/ecological effects, but that upgrading to a new dryer, which are so much more energy efficient now than previously, is much more worth it/has more noticeable ecological ramifications!
@shannonmakessomethingelse Hmmm I'd like to read the study. My engineering brain thinks drying is more efficient when you have a new washer because the new washers are much much better at removing water from clothes before they hit the dryer. But I would say an old dryer is about as efficient as it's going to get as long as it's cleaned (as in take it apart if it's been several years, and vacuum out the entire internals) plus always keep the lint remover empty. If you're going to line dry the majority of the time and mainly use your dryer for when it's not feasible for line drying or to finish off the drying, then I think an old but maintained dryer is fine as well. I always try my things mostly outside if I can and then finish off in the dryer. In Galveston TX often we have 80-90% humidity days and it's just not possible to line dry everything. Plus, I like the softening effect of the dryer vs 100% outside things tend to dry crunchier.
So many great ideas for not-quite-dirty clothes! I learned a LOT about hooks & racks and many were soooo cute, but alas living in a small Victorian apt with original plaster walls (gosh they are gorgeous) that don’t take kindly to hooks and things… I loved the idea of a small bench with a back for hooks. I’m sure my floor will continue to do its job. A tip for those of you who hang heavy jeans/pants on over the door hooks (or hooks on the door), that weight will affect how the door hangs. I try to limit myself to 2-3 pairs but it would probably be better not to hang my jeans on a door….
I fashioned an area like you describe with hooks and bathroom towel rods. Shirts can go on hooks and pants on the towel rods. The towel rods also work well for throws and light blankets. A bench underneath sounds like a great idea also.
Thank you for the body double while I worked through tidying and cleaning some of my totally chaotic kitchen. So glad I was paying attention for the corgi stairs moment
I have a couple of “tight” spaces that I have placed Shaker-style storage. My choice is a 2 foot board in space one and a 3 foot board in space two. Each board has slightly tilted 2 inch pegs that are equally spaced over the length. Plenty of depth for a few hangers with clothes on them placed several pegs apart and leaving empty pegs between for hanging a purse, jewelry, flannel shirt, etc. I hung one high on the wall entering the pantry for hanging an apron, splatter guard, colander, and even to hang plastic bags while air drying. I bought mine, but they aren’t hard to make with the skills you already have and wood from your stash. Best of luck with this huge project!
I have a worn, not dirty pile. My mother was much more organized with it. She used to hang up clothes worn once inside out. Then after watering again they went in the wash. I definitely like the idea of hooks to air things out. I have racked my brain for years for a place to hang clothes lines for airing and drying clothing and bedding. One indoors and one out. I have just built an arbor over our back sliding door on the deck. It needs finishing touches, but when done that will be my out door clothes hanging spot.
I've rewatched this several times and gotten so many "mundane tasks" done! Thank you it's been so nice, and the editing is lovely. I also love the more aesthetic stuff and deep dive stuff, but this is a great mode/style all its own!
I have been practicing my knitting since I watched you teach the other lady how to knit. I could only do one stitch and I did not know which stitch it was. After watching videos I was doing the purl stitch. Now I am finally doing the knit stitch. Also watching videos, I was purling as a left handed person.
Love the video, working at a knitting project I'm Swedish so it's good to hear you talking an see if I understand everything, ( Yes I think I did )...much love
Strong scents set off my migraines, so I'm an unscented washing product gal. I've never been a person for listening to stuff while doing housework, so these longform vlogs have been a real eye-opener for me. I'm in the UK, and still hang my washing to dry. Also, I use cheaper electricity over night to do washing, so I did 2 half loads. Tonight's washing went in, and 2 nights ago's washing was put away. Very normal for me, but I know other people will think it's weird. 😂
We made a nice board with hooks on it to hang things up, and saves floor space. As I listen, I've taken my strawberries I picked earlier this year from my freezer to make some jam. No fragrance for any of my cleaning products. I don't need the extra chemicals, as they make me cough
I agree, nice sturdy hooks behind the bedroom door or on the wall would be perfect for the "not yet scruffy" clothing items. 😊 I have an Ikea chair for mine, and especially for the "going to a medical appointment" things that I wear for just a couple of hours and loathe washing when they are still CLEAN! 😅 I have another spot, a hook on a bathroom door for the gardening clothes, when I know I'll be going out and doing more weeding etc. in the immediate future. I've saved myself so much laundry over the years. 😉 I've been feeling under the weather lately so I'm on a get at least one thing done a day routine, no matter how trivial.. Gone are the days when I was a whirlwind and cleaned 3 floors of a house in one day. Sucks getting old. The other day my one thing was dust mopping the furniture with a thing on a stick. No stress. Yesterday I was on the phone for 90 minutes with my phone company cancelling my husband's cell account, 9 months after he passed away, because I dreaded the task. Today I have just eaten supper, but, I'm going to strip my bed and swap out the summer stuff for the winter stuff, and wash it all, because it's Alberta and miraculously it's been a no frost fall so far but it's coming, soon. The trees are yellow and the leaves are falling now. Thank you for a fun hour. 🤗 Getting stuff done is very satisfying, and I hope you find a decent car soon. I'm giving my Toyota , 18 years old but low mileage and in good shape, to my middle granddaughter once it snows. Too chicken to drive once winter hits. I really enjoyed watching. It was like having a nice visit with a friend who you don't mind seeing your messes or your laundry basket while you have a good old natter👍😘💖
You know what... one thing a day is a sure way to cross items off your list, and it's probably far more sustainable than a cleaning binge one day and are then exhausted and do nothing for two weeks after!
Something you might try before washing your dog-hair covered mats/bedspreads is to toss them in the dryer for a few minutes to remove some of the hair before putting them in the washer. Having three cats, I find this to be one of the best ways to keep excess cat hair out of the washer.
Switched to the laundry detergent sheets a while ago and love them! They do a great getting the clothes clean, much smaller or no footprint and no more clunky plastic jugs to deal with.
i cannot comment loud enough how much i agree about your "worn but not dirty pile" . so umm, yes, same

Same here!
In germany we say "To clean for the wash, to dirty for the closet? Welcom to the chair!" Maybe an option is to put up some hooks at the door? The over the door type hooks, so you could juse hangers for airing out... and you don't have to put nails or other stuff in your walls
My bed has drawers underneath. One has my makeup/jewellery, the other is my still-clean drawer!
Oh my gosh I feel this SO MUCH! Same!! #wornnotdirtyclub 🎉
I like the idea of a wall mounted wooden ladder that you hang clothes on. I've seen pictures of it online, and I think it looks beautiful. I also think it could work work your antique asthethic.
That's a great idea!
Ohhhhhh!!!!
I had a friend make a "blanket ladder" from old copper plumbing pipe and t joints. The patina looks great
I have a clear acrylic tube that I found at a business that was closing. Its about waist high. I use it as a clothes horse for the "could be worn again" pile and in a pinch a standing laptop stand. Its lightweight and clear and doesnt really add to clutter thankfully
Love these videos I can just listen to you natter away while doing bits and bobs plus lots of the beautiful Canal content she is so cute and adorable
Wow, thank you!
What? the scent doesn't go out?? even after a few washes and line drying?
I got a little done and did grocery shopping with my husband which helped immensely! I am old but still going pretty strong..88 in 22 days!
Not too much in the way of dog hair on my clothing. The bedsheets, however… An entirely different story.
Hooks would be a great choice. My husband did that in our room (due to small space), in our cabin and he loves them.
Aww, I love that I’m helping in the renovation of more than one house!
also, I really love the "you have so many minutes to do the thing: put this on in the background" warning.
More of these, please. 🙏. I finally cleaned after 2 months of depression inactivity.
hey, that's amazing!! You're amazing! Yay for a bit of momentum 🎉🎉🎉
We use unscented, free and clear laundry soap in our house because one of us is allergic to almost every scent out there.
Sorry to hear that, but thankful that it seems to have passed you by
I'm with you on laundry. Throw on a blouse run to store and it can be worn again. Same with 👖 jeans.
You know the song that goes "give it away give it away now!"
my ADHD mantra is PUT IT AWAY PUT IT AWAY AND NOT DOWN!
if I can't put it away I have landing pads at each door to the outside and in the kitchen and living room so that if I can't expend the energy to put it away I can get it closer to its home.
Nice!! 💪💪
I know that you like antiques and funky. Make a rack for the wall from a finished piece of wood (an unused table leaf, or something similar. Then arrange antique hooks, or even old door knobs. Arranged in a pleasing way. Hang it on the wall. You must have something salvaged that would work. Good luck!
Love that!!
@TheLballou I love the old door knobs idea! That could be so charming and finding antique door knobs of different types would be such fun!
I'm an unscented kind of girl when it comes to laundry soap. Also, thank you for helping me procrastinate on my therapy homework while I cleaned my space along with you cleaning yours. 😁
You’re very welcome! I find I can focus better in a clean space, so maybe it’ll help with the homework too!!?!
@@ShannonMakes That is such a simple clever idea that I never thought of it! I`m a little baffled right now. x,D I think I`ll try that! Thank you!
Wish i had a washing machine like yours vs the newer one i own. So many more things i could do with the old
I love videos like these! It's like spending a couple of hours with a friend, keeping them company and helping them with chores while chatting away. I'm loving this channel and its grab-bag nature, never knowing exactly what you're going to get! So fun!
thank you 🥰
I would love more videos like this! ❤
I watched this video when it came out but searched for it specifically today to help me body double for all the things I ran around doing (it was about as straightforward as when you wanted to put the laundry in the machine 😂). I really enjoy your other videos as well but I want to watch them and then it is hard to do other stuff except knitting at the same time and boy do I have a lot of other things to do.
Thank you for the help! ❤
I’m very jealous of your spinning wheel. It appears to all be there, which can be rare.
We have a peg rack behind the bedroom door to accommodate the half worn clothes…. You might be able to thrift something and make it aesthetic :)
Totally agree on people washing too often! Fragrance free here. Love the corgi footage! The sound of his little steps is adorable. Nice that you have some supportive neighbors, and hope you get some new wheels soon!
Love this kind of chatty, side-by-side work time! Please keep doing this type of videos!
Pam
A wall mounted blanket ladder would be a good storage option for by the bed.
If you ever run across a quilt rack, those make great landing pads for slightly worn clothing 👍🏻
Good to know!
That's what I was going to say! I have one at my sewing shop to put my projects that are in process on.
As to the tablecloth+tornado human things, my mother-in-law superglued strong magnets to the underside of the edge of the table and uses those instead of the clips, they're a little less noticeable and stronger. She has a very heavy cat (Charlie isn't unhealthy or anything, he's just a brick of muscle) who likes to climb up on the table and the magnets keep the cloth on!
clever!
Really enjoyed this style of video. It was a great motivator! I cleaned my craft space, watered plants, and did some laundry while listening / watching. Nice to get some real-time updates on your place!
Perfect!!
Shannon, thanks for keeping me company this afternoon in the ER! I am ok, and it turns out I don't have appendicitis, so that's a good ending.
oh geez.... very glad you don't. that's nasty stuff 😬
Busy working on finishing on my September Shirtdress, made from recycled shirts from my son.
That is awesome!
I've never tried a body doubling video before, this was amazing!! I got so much done and actually enjoyed do it. Definitely happy to watch more like this, thank you Shannon :)
Nice! Love that!
I've thrifted (my local thrift stores always have a few) several quilt racks for slinging once-worn clothes over. The racks fit in smaller corners and the clothes can be spread out over the spindles so they can air out and they don't get too wrinkled
I haven't seen one in a thrift, but will be keeping my eyes open for sure!!
The cat is extremely pleased about me staying still!
oh no... nope your leg feels better soon!
I wear my Pjs for several days also. :) I also have the "not quite dirty yet" pile also.
It’s Fall so our weather is a roller coaster!
lots of good ideas in the comments
Hot tip, sweep pile, use wet paper towels to pick it up and pitch it in trash. 😅 Im loving this channel ❤❤❤
Love this video more than the other channel!
Yea, it would be a nice coffee station, albeit a bit low... but it's a thought for sure!
Merci pour la compagnie! J’en ai profité pour faire du ménage dans ma van (une Ford 1980) , un peu nostalgique qu’on en soit à nos dernières fins de semaine de camping !
You should get a mattress pad. Help protect the mattress from the dog. I have cats and it’s amazing how much crap ends up on my sheets.
Wash when needed. Completely with you on this.
My sister is a no fragrance person, but I prefer lavender
Happy for the weee thing when Cannelle jumped on the bed !
so many people have already said it, but a quilt ladder for your "worn but not dirty" pile would be ideal!
One of those accordion hook wall hangings would be perfect for your “worn & not dirty” clothes! You also could use a “blanket ladder” or thrift and old worn ladder & drape your clothes there. :) good luck!
Great idea!!
Corgi blink!
Thanks for the company, I just crocheted along, drank tea and rested, a much needed "activity" after an intensive weekend.
Looking forward to seeing all the sorting/decorating stuff around the house :)
You are so welcome!
White walls with black marble would be great!
Unscented is my preference and I agree with not over washing clothing.
You can make some pot holders take all your fabric scraps the smaller ones and cut them up for stuffing wrap them in a thin piece of fabric quilt them up and that'll make them thick enough and then put some good fabric on the outside
I’m with you on the don’t wash unless it’s dirty or smelly rule. 👍🏻
I think an accordion peg wall hanging would be the perfect answer on the wall for your clothes to air.😊
I hope the garage that supplied the transmission got (at very least!) an earful!
oh yes, they did!
Omg, sounds like you absolutely killed it! Well done!
Aww, nice! So cool to hear that!
oh nooooo, the poor baby. I hope he's feeling better 😢
I’m not cleaning today but progressing some of my mixed media art, it’s nice to have you chatting away while I do my work.
Wonderful! That sounds very relaxing!
Oooh, clever about the colored thread, I love that!!
it's so hard to live in chaos, and it's so hard to do a home rehab without there being chaos; it will be all better though, eventually. Love that you brought Cannelle's fainting couch. I hope Phil is successful at finding a good car for you; and it lasts a good long time.
Me too!!
I have built something similar for our bedroom in Montreal, I might use it as inspiration for this solution as well
The quick and easy option for hanging clothes that are worn but not for the wash is hooks on the door, much nicer than the floor. The house is looking so much better now. ❤
🥰🥰
I try to limit myself to 2-3 pairs but it would probably be better not to hang my jeans on a door….
definitely hooks - my sister and I each had one for just the purpose you are describing. Ours were on the inside of the closet door.
I fashioned an area like you describe with hooks and bathroom towel rods. Shirts can go on hooks and pants on the towel rods. The towel rods also work well for throws and light blankets. A bench underneath sounds like a great idea also.
Great tip!
@@shannonmakessomethingelse can't wait to see what you come up with!
I have to confess I watched you over 2 days because the 1st day I didn’t finish. Today I didn’t have enough video! I’m pattern making!
Welcome back!
Thank you for the body double while I worked through tidying and cleaning some of my totally chaotic kitchen. So glad I was paying attention for the corgi stairs moment
You are so welcome!
Thank you!!
I have been crocheting on and off. Perfect background/watching material.
amazing, glad to keep you company!
It needs finishing touches, but when done that will be my out door clothes hanging spot.
that sounds lovely!
And now for the "burning" question! Is Cannelle bilingual?
Enjoy your week..sorting, organizing, etc.
Putting your touches here and there..tableclothes, flower, etc.😊
I've rewatched this several times and gotten so many "mundane tasks" done! Thank you it's been so nice, and the editing is lovely. I also love the more aesthetic stuff and deep dive stuff, but this is a great mode/style all its own!
Glad you enjoyed it and yay for getting all those mundane chores done! Huzzah! 💪💪
❤ Princess Di....My friend used to collect royal mugs... but only those that had divorced 😂
😲😂
Not the first time I hung out with this video doing crafty project, just love it here)
awww, perfect!
Like the vertical wall mounted clothes racks for bags and horizontal behind doors.
Godspeed
Dee
I have been practicing my knitting since I watched you teach the other lady how to knit. I could only do one stitch and I did not know which stitch it was. After watching videos I was doing the purl stitch. Now I am finally doing the knit stitch. Also watching videos, I was purling as a left handed person.
Oh, nice! Well done!
It was wonderful hanging out with you during your day. Thanks for keeping me company
Thanks for coming!!
Greetings from Ontario 🇨🇦
As someone who didn’t have a car for months ( after accident ) , 🍀.
Thanks for sharing.
You're very welcome!
Cannal is so adorable I love the way he seems to bunny 🐰 hops
I can't wait to see your Autumn videos
🍁🍂🎃
Love the video, working at a knitting project I'm Swedish so it's good to hear you talking an see if I understand everything, ( Yes I think I did )...much love
Wonderful! Tak!
No, that makes so much sense! We have our dehumidifier set to run during similar hours
I have an Ikea chair for mine, and especially for the "going to a medical appointment" things that I wear for just a couple of hours and loathe washing when they are still CLEAN! 😅
I have another spot, a hook on a bathroom door for the gardening clothes, when I know I'll be going out and doing more weeding etc. in the immediate future.
I've saved myself so much laundry over the years. 😉
I've been feeling under the weather lately so I'm on a get at least one thing done a day routine, no matter how trivial..
Getting stuff done is very satisfying, and I hope you find a decent car soon.
@@shannonmakessomethingelse Exactly! Been there and done that too often. 😊
