So my external hard drive with all my footage and the HD version of this video decided to crap out on me this morning, so while I did (obviously) managed to get a lower quality version uploaded, it's pretty poor quality... sorry about that, and hopefully I can figure something out for next week's video 😭
+ engagement + my 11 year old 720p tv can't tell the difference :)
Edit: the product you want to fix the rug is called carpet binding tape!
Not a problem..we all know stuff happens. Love to recycle. My wind bangers are fun..😊
You said my absolute favourite english word: Nincompoop!
So it is all ok. 😅😉
I couldn't tell the difference on my tablet. It is the contentand your story that counts.
It is absolutely necessary to my mental health that I get away from my house (think disaster) occasionally and go to the library or dollar store or grocery store. I am not
spending a lot, and I am taking my time so that I make good decisions. I look upon it as a breath of fresh air wafting through the attic of my mind!
I'm taking a class called Emotional Resilience, and this is part of the "stepping away" process.
Love your haul! As someone who is doing the same thing with not as many floors to the structure, I say that you SCORED!
Here's to Improved Physical, Emotional, and Spiritual Health For Us All!🐈⬛🖖🫖🦉📚😍✨️
I love thrift hauls. Most of the ones on RUclips are by people who are specifically looking for expensive or designer items. It's really nice to see someone who is just practical and picks up things they need for less money. I'd love for you at some point (next time you need a 'less work' video?) to bring us on a thrifting trip in real time. I think a lot of people are finally realizing how great thrifting can be, but assume that as soon as they walk into a thrift store they'll find something worth a fortune.
The fact that you're an unapologetically real and entire person is probably what has gotten me to watch every video you've made.
Aww, I love that last part... thank you so much! 🫶🫶
Every single time you change the type of video you put out, I always love the new type just as well. Who would’ve thought I would go from watching you picking up so many wonderful things on city-wide moving day to watching you fix up a house. And let’s not forget the winter we just spent watching you travel around and perform and work on Sewing projects. You are just very well-rounded, and so are your videos. I understand that there are some people that only want to watch a certain type of video, but I happen to watch home improvement and Sewing and Thrifting. I hope more people are encouraging you to not worry about the type of content and just do your thing. I certainly hope these videos do well so that you can keep making them.
I totally agree! Keep being you Shannon!🌞🥳💪
I agree! Variety is always fun. And it shows what an interesting person you are. So multi-dimensional. Some people just aren't that interesting, frankly! 😂
Couldn't have said it better 👏💯!
Your sweater is BEAUTIFUL!
Thank you!!
Coudn't be better 👍
So gorgeous- love the deep color and the pattern!
💯 % agree!! Looking forward to the colder weather to see you wearing it. And because spring and summer has pollen. 😢
@@ShannonMakes can you share the pattern name?? I’m always looking for beautiful sweater patterns!
I don't understand people who feel creators owe them something. I appreciate you sharing your life and creativity with me. I appreciate each of your offerings. When you need downtime and I want to see something from you I watch something you already shared. Please don't let people make you think you must drive yourself to exhaustion. Those people won't care if you burn out and stop creating, and I and I feel many others will miss you.
I appreciate that! Lots of entitled people in the comments who get very vocally offended when a video they click on doesn't perfectly match their expectations of what they thought they were going to be watching! But that's not really what I was talking about in the video, that's more the people who leave nasty comments about how disappointing whatever aspect of the video was to them. This was just purely me knowing that this video was going to get far fewer views than normal, and thanking everybody who stuck around to watch it even if it's less exciting and more mundane than the other house videos!
I must admit, at first I was a teeny tiny bit disappointed at the video's title because I usually don't like haul videos. But! This was very different from the videos I don't like. You may say that you got "boring" necessary supplies but somehow that's actually part of what made it interesting! Then I do like all your videos because you as a person present your content in such a nice way! AND as I said, I really adore your jumper!
Please don't apologise for quality "issues", I'm so glad you didn't lose your data!
thank you for this! i adore all the creators i watch, and i know that many feel like *we* think they owe us something. they don't owe us a thing! i'm just happy to see them on their own terms, and i'm thankful they share their lovely selves with us. the only reason i'm less than eager to click on something that doesn't seem "happy" is that i want every single one of them to *thrive*, so i hate it when they hit a bump in the road!
@@sternentigerkatze oh, amen! @ShannonMakes, please stop apologizing for anything. you're doing great! and i'd much rather see "poor" quality than not to have a video to enjoy. :)
Shannon you're so darn fun and Phil's a delight. I love you're aesthetic and the care you take with budget and old things.
Your 80 yr old wanna be granny suggests you cover your switch plates with color coordinated fabric…Mod podge or white school glue….so easy and pretty!!!
I have cover switch plates with wallpaper before they came out nice or even paint them until you can get the older ones that are more pricey..nothing is mundane if you need it for something....if you need curtains alot of people are using canvas tarps from hardware stores or Walmart even...they are long for the older windows and heavier and help keep you warm in the winter..and the color goes with everthing..
Wow! That's a great idea! 😊
I think that would be a fire hazard.
The black lamp definitely has classic street lamp vibes!
Totally!!
@@ShannonMakes I think for the lamp if you do decide to keep it hanging you should still add support in the form of a wire coil around it, for safety. Don't want the cord snapping
That was my favorite!
Thanks for sharing! I am not sure about the rest of the world (I never am) but some of us watch your videos because you are you, and you do very interesting exciting and curious things. So, it does not matter what you are doing, we are watching you, not matter what you are doing!
Wow, thank you! 🫶
Stalker vibes, lol.
We are watching you......
😂😂😂😂❤
You are so multi talented I’m convinced you can do anything you tackle. Your part sweater looks amazing.
Thank you!
Our 1952 mid-century modern house was rewired before we bought it and the electrician used bright white outlets and switch covers against the real mahogany woodwork. Thus I discovered that Rustoleum's bonds with plastic spray paint works great on those. The actual outlet plug faces were very carefully painted with a tiny artist's brush.
I used Krylon Fusion All-In-One spray paint on an odd shaped ceiling vent fan switch plate that was stained yellow within a bathroom from cigarette smoke. I first cleaned it with Mr. Clean (I purchase concentrate then add water - the best I found to cut through dirt, grease, grime, etc.). Gave it a light sanding with a high grit then sprayed it; it came out looking brand new.
I wonder if the thrift would take the rug back. Seems as though they concealed the bad side of the carpet so it would not be noticed because that end was rolled up on the inside.
Love your videos, something for everyone, sewing, thrifting, renovating, gardening, corgi-ing❤
Yes! Thank you!
Putting it in perspective, windows with an R-Factor of 2 are better than windows with an R-Factor of 1! 🤣🤣🤣 I applaud you for taking on this gargantuan project. I am too old to commit or undertake that amount of work but I am enjoying being your biggest couch surfing cheerleader as I watch your progress. Congrats on all the great finds; whoop! 🙌🙌🙌
R 2 has glass😮!!! FYI R 3 has glazing & R 4 has curtains. hehhehheh 😂 ❤this gurl❤!
@@marshawargo7238 🤣🤣🤣
The only new items in our home were the matress on our bed and the tiles on the kitchen floor. Everything else is second hand, from charity shops, Facebook market place, ebay, the local dump, off the side of the street 😅
I love repurposing old furniture 😍
You have a very similar mind set to me when it comes to re-using old items.
I am so enjoying this series 😊
I love that Phil gets the "meh" lamp. You can tell him that he's not alone, my husband too gets no say in the decor, and gets the more "serviceable, less pretty" items. I also love how real you are about everything, Sweaty, dirty, shamelessly thrifty. We need more people like you! keep up the awesome job!!
🤣🤣🤣 thank you!
Bed skirt
I love ALL of your videos, Shannon:
Thrifting!
Sewing!
Acrobatics!
Tree pruning!
Sludge-schlepping!
Dog fetching!
I look forward to each and everyone one that you produce, so keep up the great work!❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yay! Thank you!
All the "mundane" finds are the ones that make me so happy. I have a small collection of switch and outlet covers, as well as spare switches and outlets, because you just never know when you will need them.
I love it too especially as its the sort of stuff we really need normalized to thrift and donate so as to help with our waste problem. Bigger and decor items are great and help too but getting and donating basic stuff is such a good habit to be in.
Can’t wait to sell bedroom reveal! I know it will be gorgeous. ❤ Oh and the sweater is beautiful!
Thank you... it was a super fun project to tackle!
There are so many times when I'm sad that I miss a "live" or premiere because I'm not usually awake until several hours after they show. Then there are times like today when I'm glad some people post early because my kiddo woke me up at 1:30am. Those really early days, its nice to know I'll have something to look forward to. Thank you.
Oh, I'm so sorry that the first one you managed to catch was one where I was unable to make it to the live chat... usually I'm there talking along with everyone, but it's been a bit of a crisis morning in the household!
@@ShannonMakes All good. I'm not much of a chatter anyway. :)

Hope everything works out okay!
Rug colors look gorgeous on my monitor. Yes, sometimes we have regrets about our thrift purchases, but "wabi-sabi", Baby. You've got the right attitude and you stayed positive. It will be fine for awhile or maybe forever. Shannon Makes Do!
Paint the inside of the kitchen drawers with Kilz and then put the drawer liners in.
Get yourself some of those rolls of rubber mesh to go under your rugs. They will help add grippage and be a barrier to help avoid the bottom of the rugs from scratching your wood floors. You don't need them for rubber backed rugs, but unbacked and Persian rugs need them. You will have to wash the mesh periodically with soapy water when they get too dusty, but it isn't often.
I like this kind of videos. I started watching for the sewing and stayed for your personality.❤
Aww, thank you!!
I just want to thank you for sharing your life with us! I am a 58 year old stage 4 ovarian cancer survivor who is thoroughly enjoying your videos. You are motivating me to fall in love with my artistic side again!❤
I love thrifted hauls, nothing better than finding exactly what you've been needing at the best possible price! I'm looking forward to seeing the bedroom 😍 Also your sweater is gonna look amazing, I love the colour! 🥰
Hello Shannon, I watch you videos because I 100% enjoy you.
Thanks so much! 😊 I appreciate that
Also, WINDOW INSULATION KIT?!?!?!?!?
You have just blown this Australian's mind.
Double glazing is almost unheard of here, and overall our houses are more geared towards keeping cool in summer than warm in winter. As a result, come winter we shiver and freeze, piled with blankets and jumpers, wearing woolly hats to bed (outside it is perhaps 5 or 6 degrees Celsius on a very cold night) so that we can set aside aside money to pay to basically run our aircon 24/7 all summer (and that is with solar panels on the roof).
Straight away I looked up these window insulation kits, an apparently they are Not a Thing here. Our largest (and usually only) hardware/home improvement store, Bunnings, don't stock any, I would likely need to order it from Amazon.
But that would be worth it so that I wouldn't need to stick bubble wrap to my bedroom windows for three-four months (and be unable to open them for fresh air). And by the way? Using bubble wrap as window insulation is a really common suggestion by all the major news outlets, charities, and even the big power companies trying to help you make your home more "energy efficient". THESE WINDOW INSULATION KITS WILL BE MORE ENERGY EFFICIENT THAN BUBBLE WRAP!!!!!
I am going to tell all my friends (in person and online) about this now. I doubt I will shut up about it for the next three months.
They are a Canadian staple!! And make a huge difference - Not only do you stick it up to the window with double-sided tape but you then put a hair dryer to it and it shrinks it right so you can see through it! SO You might be able to find basket wrap that is big enough to fit your windows!!!
There are some great plastic on plastic metallic spray paints for the switch plates and outlet covers. I used a hammered tin texture paint on the plates in my last vintage (1920s) apartment and the effort to satisfaction ratio was fantastic!
Hi Shannon! The thing you called dust ruffle is called a bed skirt. Love Channel.😊❤
Love that you're finding ways to wiggle in some breathing room. It's really important for us all to remember to rest! I enjoyed this change of pace. Thrifting is interesting in what you luck into and how much things cost, I think you got some really satisfying deals. And now we're rug twins! I've got one very similar in my basement, it's been nice to get up off the cement floor when it's cold. I didn't know about rug pads (maybe everyone already knows) but those are great for adding a little yoga mat like comfort under the rugs and I'd guess they could be available second hand too.
The quality is not awful on a mobile phone .
❤
I just went to a giant second-hand store today; I picked up a massive glass vase (to put my homemade giant flowers in, because, who doesn't?) for 10.-! If I had bought it new, it would easily have been 7x that price here... So, like you, I also love bargain shopping for things I'd buy anyway! 😎
Nothing like a warm hug from the universe, finding your perfect color linen😍
Right?!
I love that quilt! The style and the colors are fantastic! It's a rainy day here and I would love to cuddle up in it with a good book! I've always called the box spring cover either a dust ruffle or a bed skirt...probably not the proper names either but they'd work for a Google search methinks! LOL And as for the rug, I've re-bound? one using embroidery floss before! It takes some time and can be tough on the fingers but it worked! Overall, I'd say you made out like a bandit with those finds and that price! Great haul!! And for the record...many of us are here because of YOU, not just what you do in a specific video! Take care and I can't wait to see your treasures spread throughout your home!
I can't see anyone else who beat me to the punch (whough I may be mistaken), but the "dust ruffle-y thing" is a valance. I am only 33 myself, but I know because my mother made all us kids a quilt as children, but mine (as the eldest, mine was the first one she did. First one ever actually, as I recently found out) was the only one with a "skirt" to it. A fitted/shaped skirt on a quilt (that is, not just the usual drape of a square) is also called a valance, like the cover on a box spring.
My mom always called it a bed-skirt (but I couldn't have them because they held too much dust and were too difficult to clean). To me a valance is what goes over the curtain-rod to hide the top of the curtains.
"bed skirts" and "dust ruffles" are synonyms 🥰
@@Nessi-dancessame. I had an eyelet bedskirt on my bed for a good long while. It hid the mess underneath my bed which made "cleaning" my room easier, lol
Or a bed skirt.
Suggestion - you can take a fitted sheet and put it on the foundation. Put it on so it covers the bottom, underside of the foundation, then it covers up the sides. Mattress sits on top, so if it's visible, it's a more pleasing look than the foundation material. Not my idea, found it on Pinterest and did it. And bonus, if you have cats, keeps them from crawling up under the foundation, some have openings.
I would love a episode from the actual thrift store too, from the « hunt» 🙌🏻 looking at the hunt, rather than just the haul is so fascinating!
lol for everyone saying this, is someone saying they will NOT watch a thrifting hunt video 🤣😭🤣 #welcometotheinternet
I no longer have a king bed, down to a twin, so I plan to use my old sheets to make summer dresses.
No need to apologize. U r doing great. Everything is exciting...its all a journey...we can all watch & join u in the fun....blood ,sweat & tears .....😊
OMG, the sweater is gorgeous! Love the colour! The cream lamp reminds me of a hibiscus or a lily. Just beautiful!
thank you!! Japanese Maple is the colorway!
What’s the pattern and yarn? It’s gorgeous
You reminded me of the times I would shop and come home and do a fashion show or reveal for my parents. Happy memories!
Carpet/rug trick! Buy the cheapest you can stand the feel of, and then use two sets of pads underneath it. Applies more to carpets, but the yoga mat reminded me most people probably don’t know about this trick. The extra padding underneath really makes things better, especially if you are on a budget.
i love that mirror above the fireplace and the fireplace is gorgeous
I really enjoyed this video. I love it when you get good deals and oh my gosh that sweater you’re making is gorgeous. Your stitches are magnificent. Thanks for sharing. I love videos like this.
Some thoughts from my mum - that quilt is beautiful and hand quilted from the look of the back! For the rug, if you had some fabric of a similar colour to the rest of the edges, you could bind it to close off the cut section.
From both of us - the stitch holders and the outlet covers were such a good buy for those prices, that alone would be a budget haul worth celebrating
Sometimes it's the mundane, daily things that bring the most joy. There are some crafty things you can do with those light switch plates, and even if you do nothing, they are the thing that gives a freshly painted room the finishing touch. My brother said to me and Mum one time when we were going to our knitting circle, "Do you ever walk in and say, 'Yo! What's up ma knittahs?!'" Hahahaha Your sweater looks FAB! 🙂
I love a good thrift store find!! So fun to get a good deal and have a few pieces that no one else will have!! 😊
That rug would be easy to fix……new binding and you’ll be good 👍
Love the thrift haul - well done!! Just in case 85 other people haven't mentioned it - It's called a bed skirt! Love love love your sweater!! make sure to share when it's finished.
I feel like your videos make me less lazy. I always feel like after watching I need to go do something productive.
I love watching videos where people are able to gather up things they need because I'm a HORRIBLE shopper. I excel at not being able to find things, I have no idea how to shop at a flea market or yard sale so being able to see other people be successful at it makes me happy. At the base of all this is the fact that I have no sense of decor. I couldn't appropriately decorate a room if you hung a million dollars in front of me. 😊
That sweater you are making has a beautiful pattern to it! Can't wait to see it when it's all done.
I always wonder why people are amazed that someone watches their video to the end. I usually do. I'm betting if you shot some corgi B roll and broke it down into say twenty 15-30 second pieces and rotated them in at the end of every video people would always watch to the end once they realize they'd get a corgi treat there. I could be completely wrong though. 🤷♀
Shannon! You can decoupage the switch plates!
Is that not a fire hazard? 🤔😬
why would that be a fire hazard? If it's a fire hazard, you haven't done your wiring correctly!
I love thrifting as well. The joy of finding something useful that someone else didn’t want is the best feeling
SO true!
Your sweater-to-be is beautiful! I hope we get to see the jumpsuit when you finish it. I love the fabric. By the way, a plate of ground coffee helps to remove odors even better than baking soda .
I absolutely love that Art Deco style lamp. Definitely needed grabbing!
Don't worry about losing words, it's frustrating sometimes but not a big deal.
I'm always full of admiration for people with the knowledge and patience to edit video. Your efforts are appreciated
I'm waiting for this videos every week :)
Her voice is so calming!
Thank you 🥰
Finding treasures, be they practical or decorative or just fun at the thrift store is mundane? NEVER! It's so satisfying and I love it when that happens. Oh, and you can never have too many extension cords. Next, about your sweater, your stitching is beautiful. That sweater is going to be beautiful. Amazing. This was a fun video. I enjoy all your videos.
omgosh! The hardware haul! Fabulous! Better than designer label crap. And, dayum, than sweater!
I do love that black lamp! Nothing better than being judged by your dog 🤣. I am all for less effort on the editing side, you do so much work already! 💜
Even brand new and pretending I won the lottery, that blue is insanely difficult to find in fabric. I have the best luck with searching for cadet blue and French blue. Maybe that shade is just momentarily not en vogue. Anyway, the sheets made my heart leap. Yes, I know well the thrill of finding just the right thing. I thought the carpet colors were perfect, too. Can't wait to see the bedroom.
Your sweater is SO beautiful. OMG.
Thank you!! And yes, it was so tricky to find matching linens for that room redecorate!
Enjoy these kind of "practical" thrift hauls, wouldn't mind if you did more of them in the future. It's always fun to "hang" with you no matter if sewing, dumpster diving, upcycling, renovating or what other shenanigans you're up to :)
Very useful items at bargain prices. At some point you decide you want more decorative outlet covers, you can apply paint or decoupage. Love the quilt. We bought one similar several years ago, fell in love with it (not too heavy nor too lightweight) and purchased another more recently.
I appreciate the easy videos too! ❤️
Yay, thank you!!
lovely knitting
Thank you 🥰
You should paint that blue lamp red! The texture makes it look like a strawberry!! 🍓
Fun!! So true1
Shannon I am so impressed with you knitting skills, your sweater is going to be beautiful. You have better quality thrift stores in your neighbourhood, then the ones in mine. ❤
Love your updates ❤
Thank you!!
I love thrift find videos ❤😊it’s good to show people you don’t have to have a large budget to make a difference ❤😊I actually like the lamp hanging down too. Reminds me of a bluebell flower ❤😊
So true! 🌸
Your sweater is great. Love the color and your knitting is even and lovely. Anyone who can make an Irish Fisherman's sweater knows her knitting tools!
Thank you!
IMHO, I'm a little baffled that anyone would think this video isn't home improvement related! All of it is making a house a home. I'm a retired interior designer and it all goes together in my opinion. Also it's a good use of time and budget and would be silly to pass up some bargains for other things you need while you're shopping. Keep 'em coming sweet girl, they're all enjoyable to me! Texas Deb ❤️👏
With your sewing talent, you can easily add a bias tape to rebind the raw edge of the rug. You can find a matching pre-made bias tape or make one yourself with fabric. Use a strong upholstery thread and needle, and hand sew with stitches that are a little longer than normal so the work is faster.
I started watching you because I like watching reno videos and you popped up on my fyp so I decided to watch and I have been subscribed since because I love watching your content and your serious but fun goofy energy!!!
You could stop being so hard on yourself. Loved this video and all your videos 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Oh, I'm not hard on myself (I don't out a video if I don't personally love it and think it's good)... it's the viewers that are hard on me, in terms of many videos don't get great views if they aren't super catchy titles/thumbnails.
Nothing makes me happy more than a good thrift haul.
ditto!!!
Shannon, your excitement about thrifting makes me happy. I love the content of your videos whatever direction they take. You are an extremely talented young woman!
Vids big and small, I’m here for it all, rock on!!!
🤘🤘🤘
The mundane. Is wonderful. I talk about every time I adult. I know its dorky but I am proud my Mom or sister didn't have to remind me. Totally ok to share.
I can always watch a thrift haul video. I love them. I'm not able to get out to go thrifting any more myself, so watching others find gems is so much fun. 💜💜💜
How do I know it's Friday? Oh, look a new Shannon Makes video! Yay! Always a great way to start my weekend. Your curtains for work clothes are much nicer than my cotton curtains that I'm making a garden dress out of. ie a dress I don't care about getting dirty, but still natural fibers and having fun Historybounding.
awww, love that!!
Rugs can be really expensive. We are reusing all the rugs from our old house even though they don't match the aesthetic of the new house; that's an expense for another day. This video prompted me to actually install the outlet covers in my kitchen that have been missing since we painted in September lol. Thank you!
lol love that, you're welcome!!
I love this video, Shannon. I also get a buzz out of finding a number of small uninteresting items in our Op Shops (Australia) that I need/can use. It's the best feeling! 👌 😃
Didn't think like you sounded like you didn't know what stitch holders were, but I'll take any excuse to be shown that beautiful sweater in progress! Fantastic work
Yes Yes... window kits! Drafty houses!
Oh my goodness! Mundane things are the best! There is a lot to be said for getting excited about the small stuff 🥰😂
so true!!
Oh my, I did not know those were stitch holders. Nor do I knit. I know how, but it requires to much focus for me. I like multi tasking. 🤣
I would seriously consider having that rug professionally cleaned. Who knows where it has been. Take the broken lamp apart and bring it to a welder to fix. Good shopping!
I am as far from a germophobe as it gets, that rug is probably the cleanest thing in the house 🤣🤣
My Victorian apt does NOT have a lot of outlets but when I painted my rooms I wanted them all to match so I drove across the bridge to the places that have all these building parts removed from old Victorians that were either being demolished or “modernized “ inside. So now all my light switches match and look original!! (I knit and immediately ew what they were for. I’ve never knitted a sweater, just hats, fingerless gloves and the occasional scarf).
You might feel better about the drawers if you sealed them with polyurethane or similar. If you still want to use the drawer liners, just scuff up the dried poly a bit to make it stick. Are drawer liners adhesive? I dunno. I come from a "line it with newspaper" family. lol
Bed Skirt ? Dust Ruffle ? (as per your question about the term for the final fabric bed item)
Your in-progress sweater - color and pattern- is gorgeous ! Such Renaissance Woman...Brava YOU !
I just watched your Ikea balcony floor video , which brought me here ! So glad !
Yes! Thank you!
Mundane purchases can be the most exciting! One of my absolute favorites from my home were door handles to replace my door knobs. I have chronic health issues, and being able to use a handle instead of a knob on every door was the biggest relief.
This haul video was just as exciting to me as your reno videos, and I really appreciate seeing the time that it took to edit.
That's fantastic, great score!!
Made the same sweater 30 years ago. Daughter is still wearing it.
All your videos are so much fun to watch. Thanks for sharing your adventures
Thanks for watching!
I just enjoy watching your videos. Don’t really matter what you’re doing. You always have good topics.
In my experience, I’ve leaned to spend more on a good cushy pad to go under rugs, and to buy less expensive rugs that I don’t feel guilty about changing out when tired of them! Great haul! 🙌🏻🤩
We call the ‘bed dust sheet cover’ we call a valance. Love your haul
so glad you showed the sweater you are working on as a flex because it IS a massive flex and I have MASSIVE sweater envy
LOLLLLL thank you!
I agree. That sweater is gorgeous 😍
You've got me itching to knit 😁 I don't know how you make the time.
Shannon, I really like your house rehabilitation videos. Regarding your $25 thrifted rug. Yes, it was a good deal. Second, though you think it's not a good choice for the bedroom, if you decide to keep it, you can simply take it to a rug repair store (carpet store) and have them bind the edge. Though you're quite handy, unless it's super expensive, it's not worth your time to bind it. The store can do it much faster with equipment. Nonetheless, whatever you do, your videos are perfect for the stage of life you're in, for the enormity of your house repair project and they showcase your ingenuity. You're quite clever! Keep up the good work.
Thrifting is very smart with lots of fun included! It’s a treasure hunt🤗🤗🤗
The item to fit over a box spring is known as a bed skirt. 😂 Yep, beds wear skirts too, how Edwardian! (Table legs with pants on them too) .
If Phil has some skills with wiring those extra lamps could be re-wired to either sell or install " hardwired" in say, the basement. Unique and practical??.
It's always so satisfying to find something you're NOT paying full retail for.
Carpet could be rebound with a heavy twill type of tape to finish the edge.
I think these type of videos are definitely in the "progress on the house" category. You need all sorts of supplies when you are repairing, renovating and refurbishing a house. People might not realize how many extension cords will be used trying to dry plaster, floor stain, paint, etc and keep fumes moving. Not too mention keeping workers somewhat cool. Light switch covers and outlet covers often crack when taking them off or become unsalvageable from too many layers of paint, wallpaper or children's markers. Plus, after spending all day in the ick, you need a nice, finished-ish, esthetically pleasing room in which to collapse and question your sanity plus wonder about your stamina. 😊
So true!!
I like the lamps. For the black potentially cast iron one with the broken join, as an electrician"s kid I need to say please please don't let the bulb end hang on only the electrical cord. It's not worth the potential issues. You can leave it suspended if you also hang the weight from a small rope, or something that won't mind that weight 👍
Great thrift haul! And why not a video on it? It fits with all the videos you have uploaded so far on your journey. It helps keep things interesting! Every week its a question of what is Shannon going to share with us next? What aspect of homeownership of a house that needs so much care and love is she going to share with us? I love that black lamp! The rug is pretty and it is a bit of a shame it was cut, but hide it under a piece of furniture and no one will be the wiser! I've taken outlet covers and spraypainted them to match wall colors, so that may be something to consider as you work through more rooms. Thanks for sharing your adventure, Shannon! I look forward to the next one!
