I want to be very clear about something that maybe didn't come across as strongly in the video as in real life: the company we're working for made it clear that our comfort and safety was priority #1, that we could use our own costumes if we weren't comfortable with their options, and that, while they would like to more fully integrate us aesthetically into the show, the most important thing was our safety (and we appreciated that)!!
I love the travel style of crafting from this video! It's not a production, it's an exact view of what you accomplished under the circumstances you had to deal with. And that makes this video perfect in an imperfect way, as it should be!
I understood that, considering how you are held with just one arm at one point, knowing your costume would be priority one, you know how your vests are made you know they will standup to the task in your act, wearing someone else’s vest be it commercially bought or made by wardrobe you would always have a niggling doubt in the back of your mind. I have a cousin who does figure skating she used a costume once made commercially and it nearly cost her career in figure skating as it failed. All her costumes she either makes or my Aunt makes for her. She was laid up for 8 months after the costume did exactly as you showed, it bagged out when her partner lifted her up over his head, she broke her leg and he broke his arm now both of their costumes are made in house as we say. One side had not been made correctly whereas the other side had been. It took just a split second as her costume split ripped and dumped her and her partner down on the ice and because of the way they do the lift, his arm has to lock in place at the elbows to maintain the lift, because of this he could not even react and release in-time as her body slid down that arm they were both a mess. They were just glad that it happened in the dress rehearsal and not in front of the judges and audience as the audience would have been just as traumatised by it as they had been. It was over a year before they were confident enough to get back into the competition circuit.
Please don't apologize. This was an enjoyable race against time video. Haven't all crafters/makers had a time in our lives when we finished a project well yet in the nick of time? Well done, Shannon!
I love behind the scenes and the race to get it ready in time. I am a horribly slow sewist, and I applaud your ingenuity (you ironing in the refreshment stand was hilarious). Looking forward to your vlog!
In which Shannon accidentally demonstrates how you can sew with minimal equipment (cans as weights, rolled towel as ham) and time. Great job! Also, the video is great! 🥰"Perfection is the enemy of good."
LOL yesss, thank you! Also let's add minimal cutting/work surfaces (in size, not in variety, because there was a WIDE variety of cut surfaces used lol) 🥰🤣✂️
I thought this came out great. Honestly, I don't think a more "polished" presentation would have caught the urgency of the situation so well. And it was urgent! Holy cannoli, putting a vest together so fast while involved in time-consuming and strenuous rehearsals is amazing. It was also fascinating to learn just what can go into costuming decisions for your act.
I’m glad you posted the video in spite of your hesitation. It’s so cool to see a glimpse into your life as a performer and the quality of the video was honestly not bad at all. So glad your vest worked out. It looks great!
I loved this video, despite (or because of) the so-called flaws. I am a fan of having a mix of behind-the-scenes/slice-of-life type vlogs along with the more polished content, since it offers a consented peek into a world/lifestyle/reality that I would never get to otherwise experience. The filming challenges just become a part of that IRL experience
I was a touring puppeteer in a two-person production of The Reluctant Dragon (17 foot, smoke breathing dragon and everything), in which my puppeteering partner and I were both live-action characters, dressed as medieval peasants, as well as the puppeting the puppets. One show we did, I left my costume behind and didn't realize until we were 2 hours in to a 5 hour drive to do a school show the next morning so we stopped off at, I think a Wal*Mart is what we found, and I cobbled together what I could in the motel room that night, sans sewing machine. It was definitely a "nobody get too close to me and see what this costume really looks like" kind of situation. You brought back a fun memory!
First time commenter here. I'm glad you filmed & posted this. Showing REAL world situations makes your video more relatable. I'm not a sewist but really enjoy your content. Perfection can be over rated & intimidating for those considering taking up a new hobby. So kudos for allowing the chaos of life to be acknowledged truthfully.
As a former dance mom, I can relate. 😂 Had flashbacks to hand-sewing a costume for one dance while the kids were already on stage in a different costume. Well done, you.
It was great! Real life is not about perfection, it is about working with what you have. You did amazing, that vest is adorable. Thank you for releasing it.
It was fine - panicky video of panic sewing in the usual style of stage movies and Mardi Gras. It’s a genre piece! Sewing is about problem solving and so is the video.
I love behind the scenes videos. And this one is incredibly interesting. Costume making, speed sewing, great improvisation and circus performing in one video.🤯 My absolute favourite behind the scenes video ever! Don't worry about poor lighting or other things you can't control. We understand and we're happy that you take time to record videos when you're this busy. Thanks for a very good video.❤
This was an amazing video! Re: the contract, you *demonstrated* how they were as a client when you showed they gave you access to the wardrobe's sewing machines, and just that when you said, "that's not going to work, I'm making my own" and they just let you get on with it. Having said that, I really hope someone was suitably impressed: "AND they can make their own costumes on the fly if there's nothing in wardrobe already!" Because that is legendary-level stuff.
I don't know about anyone else but I love the chaotic nature of last min making it work no matter what vibe of this video. 🥰🥰 This video speaks to how most of my sewing gets done. 😅
I love this video. Seeing a little bit of preparation for a show is one thing, but details about costumes like joining two layers so you won't slip from your colleague's hand is so fascinating. Thank you for this
I like both these more behind-the-scenes style and more cinematic style videos equally. I think they both show different parts of the artistry behind sewing/knitting that can't necessarily be caught by the other style. 💙
I would love a more in depth look at circus costumes! Maybe even looking back at historical costumes as well! This was so interesting to learn about the requirements your costumes have!
Having tried to look into historical costumes, find extant ones or resources about them... it's tricky! There are very few remaining from the time period I'm interested in 😢 Will keep looking tho!
I'm just gonna join the chorus here... I loved the video! And the "flaws" just made it better. The vibes felt more like a friend bringing us along for a glimpse of a life that is completely foreign to most of us... And it's the kind of combination of factors that only you could produce. It was lovely! And I'm super glad you released it.
As soon as I watched you pull out the white dritz pencil, I gasped and said " oh no!" Those things are crap. I hate them. I wish they would make something better. You really went above and beyond for this job. Congrats on it coming out so well.
lol so glad to know it's not just me/ "user error"!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure, and be sure to tune in to Vlogmas for more circus/sewing crossover content! ♥️💛🎪💛♥
I cringed when you pulled out the fabric scissors to cut the pattern! You can ask the front desk of the hotel if they have any scissors that you could borrow if you run into that in the future. I’m so glad you posted this, even with your uncertainty. There’s so little reality on the internet anymore and I’m glad you’ve always been willing to share your successes and trials with us. Can’t wait to see the show in a few weeks, super excited after these little sneak peaks 😃
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure, and the realism... although occasionally cutting paper, especially not super thin paper like this, with your fabric scissors will not harm them at all. The hotel staff was lovely but I didn't feel like running all over the hotel when I could just use what I had at hand ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
I usually don't leave comments, but I really liked this video and I'm glad you posted it. I think the chaotic nature of the footage helped benefit the story you were telling.
Aww, thank you. I appreciate you de-lurking to leave your vote of confidence 🫶🫶 I'm glad you enjoyed the adventure, and I hope to see you for Vlogmas! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
Thank you, Shannon for this glimpse into your life on the road. I am a retired opera singer, and you helped me remember the feelings of being on the road, performing, and frantically repairing a costume. It was fun and exciting, and everything I loved. At least I never had to make something from scratch! I would love to see more videos like this one. It was also fun to get to see a it of your performance. Happy Holidays!
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure, and the backstage memories, and be sure to tune in to Vlogmas for more circus/sewing crossover content! ♥️💛🎪💛♥
Oh yikes! That would have given me so much anxiety! I really hope they paid you more for such a mess up. The vest turned out great! Vlogs (especially backstage ones) are supposed to be chaos, you did a great job. The intermittent chaos vlog helps to highlight your at-home editing skills. 💜
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure, appreciated the editing skills, and be I hope to see you during Vlogmas for more circus/crafting crossover content!! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
Ok, so I understand not wanting to release this video because of quality, but this is something that really happened. This was a whole series of challenges you had to face and overcome, and getting to witness that process was really quite the experience. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Great job all the way around! I'm glad you released the video bc I think it reminds us all that, sometimes, conditions are not ideal. You adapted and overcame the challenges beautifully! Oh, and Tarzan appeared amusingly lost and confused in JoAnn's!😂
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure, and be sure to tune in to Vlogmas for more circus/sewing crossover content! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️ And yes, it was a rather bemused Tarzan 🤣
You did a great job! As a theater costumer I totally understand the pressure and urgency at times for shows. And I too work better under pressure of a deadline than any other time. Loved the video.
In a community theater production of "The Curious Savage," as the only person who could sew in the group, I had to quickly make a cocktail dress for a character who was onstage for only a few seconds. They'd ordered a lovely dress for her and it turned out to be made of crinkly gold PLASTIC. Not exactly what we wanted for the production.
That fabric is so pretty! And the vest turned out great. I am glad you posted the video, and didn't even notice any decreased quality because it was so perfectly slice-of-life. If it had been perfectly lit and shot, it would look like it was staged. This way we really know it was a time crunch during a very busy time! ❤
I'm excited for your vlogs! On the matter of the videos and your standards, I think it's really reasonable to have a different standard when you are in a different setting with different equipment. I thought you gave us an amazing and fun look into your world. Thank you!
I agree the lack of polish on the video didn't reduce the message of the video. So no worries there. Also I loved Tarzan lol. I used to have a 6 ft 10 friend. He drove a hilariously small car just to weird people out.
Woman you are incredible! YES, would love to see more behind the scenes;) Amazed by your ability to improvise and "make do". Totally get your being a little intimidated by the upscale Singer😂❤. Best wishes to your cheerful self😊. LGIT, lib grandma in Texas.
Oh my gosh - my heart was actually pounding watching this! The filming style was perfect for the subject matter, and I really enjoyed seeing the "behind the scenes". Can't wait to see more!
I too appreciate that this was a real live event, not polished and airbrushed for perfection. It makes it seem more like something that we your followers could do. Thank you 🎉
Oh my goodness! Congrats on successfully rushing a vest! I am not often a fan of vlogs, but I adore your content and quite enjoyed this episode. I will definitely tune in for the rest. The struggle against perfectionism is neverending, however I am grateful you released this video
I LOVED this video! it was so much fun to see a less polished Shannon. I love your normal videos too, but I love this sort of spontaneous fly by the seat of your pants thrown in every now and then. It shows that things don't always go as planned, but we make the best of what we have, and it's ok. I'm so glad you released this. I was super fun to watch, and also very interesting to see behind the curtain so to speak, as to how your "day job" works. I'm all for more like this 🥰😍
Oh it would have been so sad if you had decided to not release this video. Its great! Is it not like your usual videos? yes, but does that highlight the "emergency" and fast pace/time you sew that costume in? Also yes! And I love the final vest, it looks great! And Im so amazed that you could finish it in 2 days. I would struggle to do a vest in two days if the only thing I do was sewing that vest.... but you had your rehearsals etc. to do too... wow!
Thank you!! It was definitely an interesting challenge, but I'm glad you enjoyed the adventure! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️ Sometimes sewing to a tight deadline can be inspiring... other times it can be stressful. Fortunately, I knew that, worst case, we had our original costumes to fall back on!
Long time admirer and video watcher, first time caller. This one was very fun what with suspense, instruction, entertainment engagement, shopping, popping, prepping, and sewing. Although, it would have been better to find the fabric on a frantic dumpster dive and recycled threat from an old pirate robe. All in all as I said fun to go along for another Shannon Makes with a reveal revealing something we all know well, ‘She wears fine things well.’
its not up to the same standard as your other videos, but its still really enjoyable! this just shows a different part of your life and how sewing helps with your performance work. and its REALLY good quality imo for having been shot in a hotel and by rehersals!
The video accurately descirbes the panic sewing aspect of this project! Cinematic perfection? Maybe not. Very interesting? Hell yes. I have seen frixion pens recomended for sewing, on most fabrics it seems that the marking goes away. I have tried those fabric marking pencils and eurgh, they are like dried out crayons. I have bougth, but not yet used, the frixion pens myself. Another cheap-ish sewing tool is the biggest metal washers you can find at the local hardware store, as pattern weigths. Often they come in small bags, and as they are flat they are easy to manuver around.
Yes, I use Frixon pens when I need really detailed marking, and I have had good luck with them (I think I talk about it in my Edwardian Jumper video, and test them in the freezer), but I was NOT planning on having to do finicky or fitted sewing while on tour, so I didn't bring them. And no need for heavy pattern weights (limited room/weight in my luggage on tour) when I have my phone and some canned food at-hand!!
@@ShannonMakesI apologise, my comment was not meant as critique, but I see how it can be read that way 🙊. What I meant to say, but did not write, is that those things are what I think I would have tried to get localy if I had to try accomplishing the same feat. Relatively cheap, relatively small/ligth and often found at the same store. Best of luck on your tour 💝
Super cute vest! Panic costume sewing is my default setting - though I'm more "Renaissance Faire" than "Cirque du Soleil"... I'm glad you got it done in time and was able to use a sewing machine and serger. For a minute I thought that you might have to do the entire thing by hand and I got a little nervous! I love the video and the more casual vlog style too!
the thought of having to do the whole thing by hand DEFINITELY crossed my mind too 😭😭 Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure, and be sure to tune in for Vlogmas! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
I thought this video was great. Is it a bit more chaotic than your usual? Sure but it was a chaotic situation. Plus it was interesting to hear about the construction and safety concerns you have to take into account specifically to suit your performance. Two things: 1. If you’re worried about having damaged your good fabric scissors by cutting paper, I’ve had a professional scissor/knife sharpener reassure me that, while it may not be ideal, cutting paper once is not going to be that big of a problem. It’s far more damaging to cut thick plastic or anything that will cause the blades to push away from each other. 2. I got one of those white marking pencils as part of a gift once. I have yet to find a fabric that it actually works well with.
Thank you!! And while I very much appreciate your comment, I am not worried about damaging the scissors by cutting paper... the idea that occasionally cutting through thin paper would damage my blades more than cutting fabric is kinda ridiculous to me, and I'm getting a good giggle at everyone else in the comments who are freaking out about it. So I enjoy your very pragmatic approach and advice... and the fact that I'm not the only one who's found those pencils to be useless!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure, and be sure to check out Vlogmas for more sewing/circus crossover! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
I echo the many comments about the video being a great demonstration of what is possible, especially with your foresight to bring a few basic materials, tools and patterns. The video 'style' definitely added to that as well. Also I appreciated the discussion of the safety requirements of your costume - for someone who loves costumes, but is not a performer, that information really helped me understand the urgency / need to create a vest for yourself.
I absolutely loved this! Super fascinating seeing more of the other part of your life. Also really interesting learning about costume requirements, etc. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a vlog style video being a vlog style video that just has sewing in it as opposed to a proper sewing video. :)
It is so cool to see your sewing world, and working world come together, even if it was crazy hectic for you. Your vest was really nice, even considering the low-quality fabric, and crazy time constraints. It turned out great!
Before you even shared your doubts I thought that was a great video. I enjoy getting the views of your world. I know nothing about filming and tech. I don’t think you’re lowering your bar. Life happens and you are kind enough to share it. Thank you
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. It is considerably more relatable to my current sewing situation with 2 little ones actively trying to undo things I do while asking 'Why' 500 times. I enjoy both your most polished and your most realistic probing in a concession stand. Also, I love the glimpse of circus life! Can't wait for Vlogmas.
I love that vest, omg. It's so pretty. I don't think I could do as well in the same amount of time. Heck, I have weeks to sew my Jumper (the same one you made a video on) and I'm not sure if I can do it. Granted I have to upsize it so that's also going to take time, so live in hope I guess? We were in the same Joann's. I, too, had the same So Tall reaction to your friend's head poking over the top of the aisles.😂 I have to admit I was fully expecting to hear the crash of something falling over just because he misjudged how wide he was. Knowing he's in the circus explains a lot.
Absolute best of luck on your jumper, that's a fabulous pattern (albeit it large and mildly complicated, so I definitely will send some good sewing vibes your way if you only have two weeks)!!
This is such a fun video! I love seeing your circus performer life as well as your sewing life, and seeing those two interface is even better. I couldn't care less about lighting or video quality :)
Hahaha I adore the opening! Its awesome that you are able to make this in such a short time. Its great that you are able to sew this and be ready for the show
Came here from current circus vid in Germany - I've been following for over a year, sorry I missed this. So interesting to see glimpses of you & Phil during your act, and learning about the fabric/design safety needs! Best wishes Shannon, Phil & Canbelle!😂❤ you are all the BEST!!🎉
They are lucky to have you ❤❤❤phil is soo adorable! Sweetie go easier on yourself . It was nice to see more background on the show ! ❤ definitely do a vogmas!
I love that video ❤ you are amazing! The vest is gorgeous and your working ethic is amazing! Please share more of your life as an circus artist - it is so interesting ❤❤❤
I truly enjoyed every second of this video!! Watching you problem solve, while you gave us sneak peeks at behind the scenes stuff, felt like a gift!! Also...I shall neva complain againnn, about lack of space to cut and work, after watching you manage it beautifully!! Lol! I do enjoy those moments when you get a nice mindshift change, bc you watched someone else do something with grace, and realized that things could go better for yerself, if you just tweak your attitude towards it! ❤
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure, and the mindset shift, and be sure to tune in to Vlogmas for more cheerful circus/sewing crossover content! ♥️💛🎪💛♥
I have that iron. The front of our house (my sewing room) was built in 1916 and my heavy 1960’s steam iron blows that fuse. It’s a hassle to iron in another room, where often my husband is sleeping while I work. I have found that my little iron even on full high/steam works fine in the old space. It’s what I use to press seams as I go. Ten out of ten.
Pro tip - most hotels have laundry facilities for long term guests. If they don't, they will have machines for their own use (laundering the bed linens and towels). If they don't have guest facilities, management may allow you to use their laundry in an extreme (and interesting) case such as this. Just so you're aware. I get it that the time was SUPER tight and it didn't necessarily matter in the long run, but if it ever does matter, now you know! Love this video - I hope you get a troupe seamstress pay allotment! You saved their butts!
Thank you! Yes, most hotels have laundry, but that would have delayed me almost a full day (remember that I had to be at rehearsals every day, for the vast majority of the day, so even if I could get the fabric in, I couldn't get it out, then into the dryer, then out again in a timely manner), and also, since it's 100% polyester, it almost certainly wouldn't have shrunk AND I have had very mixed results with hotel machines... but I do appreciate your comment and concern! Just made a call in the moment about what was best in my circumstances
❤❤what an amazing job you did, not only on the vest but with filming too, so much to do in an already busy schedule. Thank you for posting it, as a beginner home sewer, I ‘make do’ with spaces and resources all the time, it may not always be comfortable but skills are learnt along the way which is invaluable ❤❤
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure, and you might want to check out my "Sewing on a Shoestring" and "Tiny Budget, Average Tools, AMAZING Clothes" videos for some great tips for sewing with limited resources! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
Great video. Love the candid shots and the IRL views. It really showcases the varying situations which, those of us who craft, work around while pouring ourselves into what we love. Also much love to the assist camera operator catching you while working.
Shannon you are awesome! Love the fabric you picked-do be good to yourself about filming-we just enjoy especially the sewing. I get a kick from what you find in the dumpsters-I would be curious about Jo-Ann’s dumpsters.
Thank you!! And yes, I'd be curious about their dumpsters too... someone on here commented that they work at Joann's, I should ask them! Glad you enjoyed the adventure! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
Guuuurl please! Your normal vids are awesome, beautiful and meticulous, but this one is lovely and real and challenging, almost an action-sewing video! I LOVED IT. You are just so cute and talented, everything you put out is always fun to watch! Thank you for releasing this, and I hope you'll some day come to Italy, so that I can actually come to see you perform 💜💜💜 Can't wait to see the vlogs!
Thank you!! I've performed more times in/near Rome than any other city in the world, so you might be in luck (depending where in Italy you live) 🤣🇮🇹🤌 Glad you enjoyed the adventure, and I'll see you at Vlogmas for more sewing/circus crossover! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
I often engage in crafting while I have your videos on. I loved having the behind the scenes panic sew point of view and we appreciate you adding the extra layer to your things to do.
Amazing video!! It's a bit more chaotic than your usual videos, but that's what theatre is!! I miss being behind the scenes, so it was nice to see it again! Any more videos like this would be very welcomed! Also, very lucky that they had such a great sewing room you could borrow (however minimally)! My old theatre had an ironing board, and maybe a table! lol! otherwise it was empty!
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure, and be sure to tune in for Vlogmas for more backstage scenes! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️ And it wasn't really a sewing room, it was an empty changing room with the MOST FLIMSY plastic table set up for two machines, and whenever someone used the serger, the entire table would shake VIOLENTLY (the number of shots that I have where the camera just fell over within 2 seconds of me starting the machine is hilarious)!!
this was exhilarating to watch, what a challenge! i really do not mind the lighting/less-"polished" shooting, the story and variety of moments you shared such as ironing at the concession stand is way more interesting than studio quality production. your life is a docu-drama! embrace it!
Thank you, and yes, that concession stand ironing shot made me giggle every time I worked on it in the editing room!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
Well done, you did a great job, emergency sewing at its best. ❤ Though If your hotel room looked like my sewing room when you finished I feel sorry for housekeeping 😉😄🤩
Thank you!! And no, we always leave the hotel rooms in a similar state to how we found them, minus much fuller trash cans! 🤣 Glad you enjoyed the adventure, and be sure to check out Vlogmas for more sewing/circus crossover! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
Oh, believe me, I definitely enjoyed this video! I loved everything about it. THanks for sharing this crazy journey with us!! (Also, would LOVE to see more circus-y stuff. And lastly, Phil is SMOKIN' hot 😜)
this video is the one I enjoyed most of your content in thelast month. It's interesting and honest and you. Thank you for uploading. Keep these ones coming :)
Dry bar soap works well on dark fabrics in place of chalk. Usually better with the tiny thin leftover scraps that are no longer usable for the intended purpose. Those pencils never worked for me.
Yea, totally - that's a great idea! In this case, I'd be afraid that the soap would leave a residue that might make the slippery fabric even MORE slippery, but in pretty much any other circumstance, I think it's a great idea!
I honestly thought this came out great. I didn't even notice the terrible lighting or anything. I only saw Shannon doing her best floor troll impression and sewing through the choas. I totally understand where you are coming from on trying to figure out how to operate more modern machines. For our 3rd anniversary my husband gifted me a brand new Singer. I put a lot of miles on her and even taught my duaghter to sew on her. She's been a great machine only now Singer has discontinued the millennial series and she needs a bobbin positioning part after my duaghter ran over a pin and jammed everything. My husband tried to fix the jam and in the process bent the bobbin positioning part. A $7 part that I can't get anymore.😭 A couple years ago both myself and my duaghter got new machines and they both have issues. As Rachel Maksy might say they sit there and hisses at us. I still haven't figured out how to work the stupid button hole function and now I'm getting really good at doing buttonholes by hand. I love how you put together a vest literally last minute and had to utilize what you had on hand. Fortunately joanns offers scissor sharpening so after having to use your fabric scissors for paper (we both cried for you over that) you can have freshly sharpened fabric scissors. Though the look like Guggenhein and probably didn't suffer too badly. I absolutely love how your vest came out its beautiful 😍 I love that you took us along with you for this last minute sewing adventure. Even taking us behind the scenes to get a sneak peak of what goes on behind the scenes during rehearsals for a traveling show. I never toured when I danced only performed locally. This sewing Christmas vlog sounds like fun. I look forward to seeing what you have for us. 😊
Well, I will say (hoping that this comes across as encouraging) that I managed to figure out the buttonholes within about an hour, with some googling and futzing and trouble shooting. So if you were motivated, you could probably do the same - tell yourself that this next hour will be dedicated to the buttonhole function, even if it's a bit boring, but then you'll have conquered a new skill.... only if that sounds interesting to you, though. Hand sewn buttonholes are great too! And don't worry, you can occasionally cut paper with your fabric scissors and it doesn't harm them. Like, I wouldn't make it a regular thing, but I do it every now and then and my scissors are still going strong after 4+ years! (and they're only $8 scissors from Amazon that I adore and rave about) I'm glad you enjoyed the adventure! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️ Hope to see you for Vlogmas 🥰🎄🧵🧶
Great fun video! I bought that exact same fabric from JoAnnes recently. I was loudly exclaiming to my husband but he wasn’t as delighted as I was. 😂😂. I think you are amazing to pull all that off. I look forward to the vlogs. ❤
I’m glad to see some “real life”crisis sewing! I feel like we’ve all been there, yet we tend to think we’re the only ones who’ve been caught unprepared, under equipped, or waaaay too short on time. Seeing others overcome those obstacles validates my own experience. Thank you!
I came back to sewing for my performing life! I only had a 1940’s singer featherweight machine (the very same one I grew up with and I was pretty sure had only been oiled occasionally). I needed to sew up some super bright spandex short shorts for our dance performance. No zigzag and time was limited. I made a pattern from the pj pattern I’d made the month before. I copied it and took it in. I am a slow sewer but I only had to sew the crotch seams. I folded over the waistband and then tacked it down by hand. I can’t remember how or if I hemmed it 😊 I did not pre wash it and managed to get it cut out and sewn for the performance! Now that I’ve taken pattern making classes and have sewn 2 Jean jackets I’m more comfy with the whole thing but back then I was just frantic! The kind of dance I was doing was “music video” style and I was definitely too old to be going down on my knees but when you’re performing mostly in bars with dubious stuff on the floor the choreographer wasn’t gonna make us go down and touch the floor with anything other than sneakers! (Which tended to be bright, sparkly and of dubious quality!!) A vest is in my pile of projects. I have everything but the pattern. I will be bagging it! The VERY next thing I made without a pattern was a lined vest. The pattern was fairly easy but bagging that pattern seemed like magic and took me hours to turn it right side out….. I learned how to do this via a blog as RUclips was still fairly young…. I am lining my current jacket pattern but getting it turned back out seems like it’ll be easy. But who knows until I’m there 🤷🏻♀️
An absolutely fascinating glimpse into the life of a circus performer. It helps to have a partner that is like minded and supportive. Shannon, you represent most sewists. We are practical and want to do what we love with what’s at hand and create it ourselves. A nice change from the arm chair discussions on new patterns, huge fabric hauls, all being filmed behind a perfect backdrop. You keep doing you ❤
I've done panic sewing ! Two kids, lost notes from the teacher, and "Oh, yea, mom I need this for the assembly program tomorrow!!😮😮😮You totally Rocked it !! Shannon never apologize for your vids !! 😁😁👍👍👍

Very true, good point! Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure, and be sure to tune in to Vlogmas for more circus/sewing crossover content! ♥️💛🎪💛♥
Good enough lighting, good focus, interesting 'insider's perspective. What's not to like?
Right?! Shannon is so awesome!
I agree. Shannon is a wonderful seamstress. Doing it under pressure and with limited space and time, she is a genius.
I’m glad you posted the video in spite of your hesitation. It’s so cool to see a glimpse into your life as a performer and the quality of the video was honestly not bad at all. So glad your vest worked out. It looks great!
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure, and be sure to tune in to Vlogmas for more circus/sewing crossover content! ♥️💛🎪💛♥
Can’t wait! 😄
Thank you!! 🥰🥰🥰 That's quite true, honestly!
I'm just so impressed that you rehearsed a new show AND made a new costume piece AND and made a video about it all in three days!
Thank you, it was definitely a lot!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
You showed us a day in your life , and that is fantastic. Thank you for letting us have a peek . Do not doubt yourself, ever 😊
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
You brought back a fun memory!
omg, what an absolutely wild ride... I literally live for these sort of chaotic, THE SHOW MUST GO ON, "let's make it work" type scenarios!!
@@ShannonMakes Me, too!

Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure and realism! ♥️💛🎪💛♥
As a former dance mom, I can relate. 😂 Had flashbacks to hand-sewing a costume for one dance while the kids were already on stage in a different costume. Well done, you.
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure, and be sure to check out Vlogmas for more sewing/circus crossover! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
It was great! Real life is not about perfection, it is about working with what you have. You did amazing, that vest is adorable. Thank you for releasing it.
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure, and be sure to tune in to Vlogmas for more circus/sewing crossover content! ♥️💛🎪💛♥
It was fine - panicky video of panic sewing in the usual style of stage movies and Mardi Gras. It’s a genre piece!
Sewing is about problem solving and so is the video.
"a genre piece" ...love that, gonna use that for all my questionable content from here on out ;-)
I love behind the scenes videos.
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure, and be sure to tune in to Vlogmas for more circus/sewing crossover content! ♥️💛🎪💛♥
This was an amazing video!
Re: the contract, you *demonstrated* how they were as a client when you showed they gave you access to the wardrobe's sewing machines, and just that when you said, "that's not going to work, I'm making my own" and they just let you get on with it.
Having said that, I really hope someone was suitably impressed: "AND they can make their own costumes on the fly if there's nothing in wardrobe already!"
Because that is legendary-level stuff.
The lighting was fine. The sound was more than fine. The story was FANTASTIC.
Thank you!! So glad you enjoyed the adventure! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️ Hope to see you for Vlogmas 🥰🎄🧵🧶

Thank you for this
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure, and be sure to tune in to Vlogmas for more circus/sewing crossover content! ♥️💛🎪💛♥
I like both these more behind-the-scenes style and more cinematic style videos equally. I think they both show different parts of the artistry behind sewing/knitting that can't necessarily be caught by the other style. 💙
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure, and be sure to tune in to Vlogmas for more circus/sewing crossover content! ♥️💛🎪💛♥
I'm glad you released this, it reflects the mood of the situation very well and tells a compelling story.
Thank you!! 🥰🫶♥️
And I'm super glad you released it.
awww, thank you!! I appreciate that! Glad you enjoyed the adventure! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
I loved the peek into your circus life! 🎪 This was the perfect crossover video
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
They work best if you wet them.

Lighting *and* a table! How demanding! 😂
hahah, right?!!? 🤣
Oh yikes! That would have given me so much anxiety! I really hope they paid you more for such a mess up. The vest turned out great! Vlogs (especially backstage ones) are supposed to be chaos, you did a great job. The intermittent chaos vlog helps to highlight your at-home editing skills. 💜

And yes, it was a rather bemused Tarzan 🤣

Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure! ♥️💛🎪💛♥
I'm excited for your vlogs! On the matter of the videos and your standards, I think it's really reasonable to have a different standard when you are in a different setting with different equipment. I thought you gave us an amazing and fun look into your world. Thank you!
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure, I'll see you for Vlogmas! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
I agree the lack of polish on the video didn't reduce the message of the video. So no worries there. Also I loved Tarzan lol. I used to have a 6 ft 10 friend. He drove a hilariously small car just to weird people out.
LOL, I love that!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
Woman you are incredible! YES, would love to see more behind the scenes;) Amazed by your ability to improvise and "make do". Totally get your being a little intimidated by the upscale Singer😂❤. Best wishes to your cheerful self😊. LGIT, lib grandma in Texas.

I too appreciate that this was a real live event, not polished and airbrushed for perfection. It makes it seem more like something that we your followers could do. Thank you 🎉
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
Oh my goodness! Congrats on successfully rushing a vest! I am not often a fan of vlogs, but I adore your content and quite enjoyed this episode. I will definitely tune in for the rest. The struggle against perfectionism is neverending, however I am grateful you released this video
Thank you so much!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure, and I hope to see you during Vlogmas! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
AWESOME! I am so proud of you! You did great! I really enjoyed this video. I am so glad you filmed and released it. Great job Shannon!
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure, and be sure to tune in for Vlogmas! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
I'm all for more like this 🥰😍
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure, and be sure to tune in for Vlogmas! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
Always love the tantalising glimpses of your other life; you're so talented at crafting but the night job is seriously impressive
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure, and be sure to join along for Vlogmas if you want even more backstage glimpses! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
its not up to the same standard as your other videos, but its still really enjoyable! this just shows a different part of your life and how sewing helps with your performance work. and its REALLY good quality imo for having been shot in a hotel and by rehersals!
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure! ♥️💛🎪💛♥
Gotcha, gotcha! Fully understand, and yes, I agree that they all would have been very suitable alternatives to someone else in a similar situation 🥰🥰
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure! ♥️💛🎪💛♥

I absolutely loved this! Super fascinating seeing more of the other part of your life.

Hotel in house machine are huge. They probably wouldn’t fire one up for one piece of fabric and would frown at putting dark fabric in with linens.
❤❤what an amazing job you did, not only on the vest but with filming too, so much to do in an already busy schedule.

Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure, and I'll see you for Vlogmas! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
I am so impressed with your ability to improvise and sew under these circumstances. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
I often engage in crafting while I have your videos on. I loved having the behind the scenes panic sew point of view and we appreciate you adding the extra layer to your things to do.
The video quality was just fine. You did a great job.
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
And it wasn't really a sewing room, it was an empty changing room with the MOST FLIMSY plastic table set up for two machines, and whenever someone used the serger, the entire table would shake VIOLENTLY (the number of shots that I have where the camera just fell over within 2 seconds of me starting the machine is hilarious)!!
@ShannonMakes That sounds much more like my theatre then! Lol!
If you ever wanted to do a bloopers video, I'd 100% be here for it!!
this was exhilarating to watch, what a challenge! i really do not mind the lighting/less-"polished" shooting, the story and variety of moments you shared such as ironing at the concession stand is way more interesting than studio quality production. your life is a docu-drama!
I like the realism of it. A great format to add to your current approach to content development
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
Oh, believe me, I definitely enjoyed this video! I loved everything about it. THanks for sharing this crazy journey with us!! (Also, would LOVE to see more circus-y stuff. And lastly, Phil is SMOKIN' hot 😜)
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure, and be sure to tune in for Vlogmas for more circus-y stuff and Phil! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
this video is the one I enjoyed most of your content in thelast month. It's interesting and honest and you. Thank you for uploading. Keep these ones coming :)
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure, and it sounds like I'll see you during Vlogmas! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
Wwwwoooooo. way to go miss Shannon.
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
Anxiety though the roof! Well done.
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the adventure, and be sure to tune in to Vlogmas for more circus/sewing crossover content! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
(and they're only $8 scissors from Amazon that I adore and rave about)
I'm glad you enjoyed the adventure!
Oh, that's SO fun!! What are YOU planning on making with it?! Glad you enjoyed the adventure! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️
I’m glad to see some “real life”crisis sewing! I feel like we’ve all been there, yet we tend to think we’re the only ones who’ve been caught unprepared, under equipped, or waaaay too short on time. Seeing others overcome those obstacles validates my own experience. Thank you!
You're very welcome, glad you enjoyed the adventure! ♥️💛🎪💛♥️ Hope you'll join me for Vlogmas too 😊
I came back to sewing for my performing life!
You keep doing you ❤
Thanks so much! 😊
I've done panic sewing ! Two kids, lost notes from the teacher, and "Oh, yea, mom I need this for the assembly program tomorrow!!😮😮😮You totally Rocked it !! Shannon never apologize for your vids !! 😁😁👍👍👍
