    I really have to apppreciate #3 and 4. The audible sound take off is genius. Also not looking so obvious and comfortably “ducking out of site” is a thought that doesn’t even cross my mind. Yet, I get grrr when people approach curiously. Pretty useful tips. Thank you.

    The best way I've found to deal with the public is to be conspicuous as possible instead of trying to hide. Whenever I fly around people I wear a high visibility vest, hardhat, a lanyard with my 107 license, and use a landing pad with cones around it. Might sound ridiculous but it all looks so official and it eases the public's fears. No more "Is that a drone? Does that have a camera on it?". No one ever questions what I'm doing.

      AgentStarke, that is not ridiculous at all. I have been known to don the hard hat while standing next to a construction barrel as well :) Thanks for the great tip!

      I heard that from Canada, where drone flying has become ridiculously overregulated!

    Good tips, many of them I use all the time. However I like the one about using the Bus noise to mitigate drone noise on takeoff, I hadn't thought of that. I will often navigate from INSIDE my car so I don't stand out like a sore thumb looking up into the sky. I can usually get a mile range with OcuSync from inside the car, if I'm facing my flight area with the windshield. This is especially helpful in the summer when it's hot, as I will fly with the motor running and the AC on. It also helps with good shade to see the iPad. The suggestion to move on if it doesn't feel right is spot on, I've done that many times over the last 5yrs.

    All good tips Jeff but I can't help feeling that I'm doing something illegal or creepy when you talk about flying a drone. Nobody questions someone with a camera phone or a DSLR but as soon as you mention "drone" you're labeled a treat to society. I will continue to fly and look over my shoulder I guess. Keep up the good work

    • @JeffGreeneChannel
      @JeffGreeneChannel  5 лет назад

      Yep, Celticborn i know what you mean. It's worth noting that 99 times out of a 100, when someone comes up, they are nice and just want to check it out and see the view. It's that 1% of the time that leave me scratching my head.

    Thanks Jeff. Makes a lot of sense. I definitely use deceptive bags for the drone. It used to be easier with the Air but manageable with the Mavic2 also. Rules vary by country, where I live there's no way you can fly from a government property.
    Usually I ask security guards around residential buildings and parking and they let me do. They might not be the real decision makers but their approval would ease the situation if a real owner would show up once.

    Thanks for the great tips Jeff! Especially for me, a novice mavic flyer. I just cant help it when flying, at the back of my mind that im a threat to people as they say "drone". Really its just the view that makes me relaxed and appreciate nature more. Here in Malaysia, we can fly the drone, but not around airports/resorts/city centre. The rest should be fine especially at the beach ;) The most crappy part is when taking off.. the props really attracts attention! But like you said 99% are just curious and wanted to see the view, its that 1% that makes our life miserable. Btw, again, thanks for the tips! Really appreciate it Jeff!! Cheers from Malaysia!

    Than you Jeff all great tips. I for one feel the same as one of your subscribers commented here every time I bring out my drone is like I’m doing something illegal and yet if someone is shooting with a huge DSLR camera and Lens they don’t bother. Crazy ain’t it. Love to fly my Air and will continue to do it though.

      Hi Benito, I hear ya. I believe it will get better as there are more and more drones out there for consumer use. One thing is for sure, DJI is not going to stop selling them. Pretty soon they will be more common that DSLR's. Happy Flying Benito!

      Jeff Greene on my commercial shoots I always have a visual observer and a second person often to answer questions from on lookers and keep a perimeter around me free from distractions. And whenever possible shoot early in the morning, especially Sunday Mornings which can remain quiet until noon most times. I’ve been a manned pilot for 30 plus years so navigating airspace has been instinctual. The AirMap app is my go to app plus an app for manned pilots called ForeFlight. When operating around airports I monitor air traffic on a handheld radio.

    Another tip is forget about the phantom. I had a phantom and would rarely fly it due to the size and how conspicuous it was. The spark is just 10x better in my opinion.

    Another great video. Thank you! Small technical note - whatever mic you were using really emphasized your footstep noise, especially given all the leaves on the ground. Sometimes louder than your voice. Not a big deal but a bit distracting. Maybe use a lav mic and record to an iPhone in your pocket if you want to stay low key? Either way, keep up the great work!

    An extra tip which is paired with the takeoff tip is: Become excellent at manual landing. You can fly in for a landing using flight paths and/or speeds that keep your location much more stealth vs relying on precision landing which will attract much more attention and can lead to unwanted interaction.

    Good info. I’m a new drone owner. Love it. What is your “selfie” set-up? I always thought selfie sticks were silly until I saw this video. Ohhhhh, that’s how you could use one, Todd. Camera? Stick? Did you mic yourself or was that sound all ambient?

    • @JeffGreeneChannel
      @JeffGreeneChannel  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Todd, for all of the walking around talking parts i used the Go Pro Hero 7 with only the build in mic. i use a 3 way amzn.to/2QAiSIn, and that is it. The H7 is much improved over the 5. I had an external mic for the H5, but find that it is no longer necessary on the H7. Hope that helps, thanks for commenting.

    Great tips! I’ve found the newer ‘scimitar’ type props are quieter and more efficient.
    Re: “ other peoples property “?
    Who owns airspace? To how high? Planes fly over peoples property all the time without getting our permission.

    My tip, is to sit down on the ground or a bench. You don't draw much attention that way and it looks like your are just fiddling or playing with your phone. Also flying a drone can be kind of stressful (in a fun way) and sitting down makes it more relaxing and you can keep focused.

      Oh wow, it would be ironic if the person shooting guns in the air called the cops on the person with the drone/camera in the air. I can only imagine the confusion on the face of the responding officer.
