8v92 Detroit 6x4

Going through a few gears and mixing up the 6 and 4 a bit.

I'm 63 years old now but when I was probably 6 or 7 I would ride with my dad he had a 73 white freightliner 318 13 speed I would ride on the dog house watching him that's where I learned to drive. I rode several thousands of miles with him. He's been gone 18 years now I sure miss him. And really miss the glory days of trucking

I remember my dad drove a 1979 Peterbilt 359 with a Silver 92 in it. I rode with him a few times.
He used to take me for rides when I was younger too. Never drove truck myself, but I am fascinated by semi trucks.

Two things i noticed in this video that deserve RESPECT , is the grease stained pants and i heard a child in the back ground! Not only can this man drive this truck WELL, he can and is willing to crawl under it and fix whatever goes wrong and get it back on the road, and he has his child with him! I cant count the number of times i took my kids with me after i had worked 8 or 10 hours in the office , or on weekends to go haul a load of gas so that i could provide for them as a single parent. They didnt care for it at the time , but as adults realized the sacrifice a REAL MAN will do for his family, and they grew into responsible adult themselves! In a day and age that 9 out of ten mothers support their baby daddys rather than their own children, it makes a man proud!

But yep I'm 33 yrs old and I'm under this truck every weekend checkin things out and have been broke down all over the country but always manage to fix her myself! Thanks to my hard working dad who showed me everything I kno about truck. I'm also doing the same for my boys!!

My father taught me more about trucking just by hauling me around in the passenger seat for thousands of miles than most of these guys get out of a SCHOOL!
Not to mention all of the wrenching we did on them!

Kev, thanks for bringing trucking back to life. when I was a kid (long years ago) I loved seeing hearing them ole Detroit Diesels around our farm community. I'm living my dream today, but my next life dream will be owning and driving a COE rig across the country. Maybe I will be lucky enough to restore a 6/4 twin stick with a Detroit Diesel!!

I got my CSL in 1982. There were still a few of the old screaming Jimmys on the the road. I drove my share of them. One of the most reliable and fuel effecient engines ever made. I live in NW Wyoming, and they would start with now either at -40% Farenhieght every time.

Inly drove one once, company had an old city truck with it, took it for a quick run, was fun to drive. A few months later, one of the apprentice mechanics decided to go smoke a bowl instead of properly tightening down the oil plug. Fell out going down the road, destroyed the engine, was an old truck, company had just started their next round of replacing the highway tractors, didn't even bother to try and repair, just swapped it out for a 10 year newer truck. Went into the back 40, frame cut in half, crab crushed and stacked waiting for the scrap haulers

Sort of. The old spicer 16 was a 2 stick like this. A 4 speed main and the second stick a 4 speed aux. This one has even more gears. 6 speeds in the main box with the 4 aux gears on the second stick
