Don't think he used the clutch after take-off ???? Love driving like this with a 'newbie' in the passenger seat who has never heard of a Road Ranger, Twin Stick or 'Screemin' demon' in his short life.
I have only been driving 7 years and i started out in a 10 speed freightliner and after that i drove a 2006 columbia with a 15 speed. Not all of us are auto only noobs 😉

Detroit power!! My dad was a trucker. The first truck he drove was a 1967 Kenworth W900 with a 318 Detroit in it. Some years later, he was driving for Elliott Bay Trucking out of Seattle and his boss put him in a 1979 Peterbilt 359 with a Detroit Silver 92 in it.
Highly entertaining. Great that you can hear the turbo in this video. The oldest KW I drove was an 81, W900 dumptruck w/a 8V92 @ 435hp, 15spd, 12 & 40's.
Dammit sir... that ol girl sound naaaaasty.. just screamin the way they were meant to.. that turbo just eating.. the ol fella driving knows how these motors like to be ran.. right to the end of the rack.
It revs no higher than any other motor, just barley past 2000 rpm, it only sounds like high revs because its a 2 stroke, My 7.3 power-stroke f-250 can rev about twice as high as my 8v92 silver.
@@jlo13800 2100 is 50% higher than a 4-stroke OTR engine of that size range will happily run at. The only things that come close are engines 30, 40 years this thing's junior. I think the Volvo engines, the DD-series will run to 1650 without issue and the twin-cam ISX will do 1800 but even then they don't like it very much(Volvo recommends cruising at just 1350 and Detroits want to be around 1450-1500 most days), whereas Jimmy here **demands** it be revved to the moon. Get a nice new 8v92 silver from MTU and drop it in. Also one from a 400kw generator has 643hp at only 1800rpm and are still made today! i just got a used silver 8v92 for 2500

On roadrangers with brownies the brownie is only used to change the gearing ratio essentially. Like this one you would use the 13 speed with the brownie in 4 in most situations but you could start with the brownie low and shift it periodically to change the ratio. Have friends who have 18 speeds with air operated 4 speed brownies and thats how they explain it 😁
Great video!!!! What was the purpose of this kind of setup? Was this a factory setup? What is the shift pattern when you werw/are loaded? Forgive me for my ignorance, its just y really enjoy detroit diesel but sadly for me i have never had tje chance of driving one.
The purpose was to go fast =) . Actually the former owner was really into his trucks and it came with the standard 13 speed and he added the 4 speed brownie gearbox just because he could and he knew how to use it . And yes the truck is fast .
Thanks!!!!! I think it mus be fun to Drive it, still can't figure out how to shift a 13 speed and a 4 speed auxiliary. I asume it should be a very strong setup for the heavy hauling. Please continue sharing videos of that truck. Thank again.
He went thru those gears smooth as silk !! Nicely done sir..
These modern day steering wheel holders couldn’t handle that old girl...

Right! Lugging a Detroit will cause cracked cylinder heads.

Wow I’ve run em all 17-21 always cat Cummins and Detroit found they run better in the power pulled down to 17
i hear that pitch of overdrive!!!!! hairs standing !!!!! i miss it!!!
I love the sound of that engine.
Bad ass to see it still has its original taddler. Love seeing 8vs still running.

Hi 👋 Sir I honestly really enjoyed that video of mate’s roaring Detroit in his truck oh 😲 man I wish was there along for the ride 🤠
Well THAT'S a fucktonne of gears!!
52 to be exact...
Had to revisit💪
That’s the proper sound!
Nice old k-dub and some smooth shifting 👍
Sure makes this look easy though with that amount of gears , sure would be a wild machine to drive
You could shift gears forever in that baby!

Just remember to do your night light check,
Especially this time of the year, and you won't have a bear on your rear.
Thanks! Bet that old girl has some stories to tell.
Sounds great 👍🏻
Yes sir, spin that eggbeater!
52 speed gearbox where do you start???

Empty you can take off in 6th or 7th
Supertrucker: I've gotta 18 speed💪
This guy: Check out my 52 speed *screaming Jimmy* ☑😂
That truck has to be a early 72 or older it has the old style doors
I think it's been repowered. Would've been an 8V or 12V71 as it's a long bonnet or 335 Cummins at that time .
When proper tuned......lol. They would run with the other two engines on the market back in the day
I'd like to hear a straight piped non turbo 8V92.
There's a video of a yellow White Freightliner cabover here on RUclips. It has an 8V 92N and it's straight piped. That thing sure barks out.
Yep. RUclipsr is Cabover Kev and he drives a Freightliner cabover. Sure sounds nice too.@@dwightcorbett8889

Imagine having a Eaton 18 speed gearbox + 4 speed brownie + 2 speed axle...
Kml 24 gears😂😂😂😂
Athony Nesbitt actually way more “speeds”, a lot more. 36 if an 18 with 2 speed rear.

17speed transmition cool😁😁😁😁
Correct me if I'm wrong but is it a 8V92TA or 8V92N Detroit Diesel engine
8v92TA
That’s in Bakersfield buena vista
Weedpatch Supermarket, Lamont, California. Did you see it I did.

52 gears, nice
I think I need an aspirin
By the way, What country is that?
...use 2 4 6 8 in the 13 speed...and split them with the brownie...
Is this California?
You can run Detroit’s backwards.
till they blow.
52 speeds ..........if you can't pull a load with 52 possibilities, forget it.

I know extacly where your driving...lol
Why do you call a gearbox a brownie - my sister was one and I love chocolate ones
Because the co.was browning !!

Those auxiliary transmissions are called "Brownie boxes" because they were first produced by Brown-Lipe Gear Co. in Syracuse, NY.
