He did indeed, I somewhat regret not adding in some of his angst from this story, but I wanted it as quite a gentle overview of the guy, the follow up video will make it sound far less tragic. Angron though was just an eternal victim, poor dude had his game rigged from the start

even though he willingly turned to chaos, his origin always made me feel sympathy for him
I do find him quite tragic, but at the same time he was very troubled, and rejected any and all help which was offered to him. I put a short video up on patreon of him assaulting Malcador, and in the rest of that book he seems to just take out his anger on all the people close to him, whilst generally not acknowledging that he could help himself through these problems. I find the character super interesting, especially considering that his whole legion gets duped pretty hard by Typhus later on.
Well you can definitely see why mortarion went insane. Awesome video!

Something which I didn't mention in the video is that he was quite revolted by the idea of psykers and witches, so the whole time he was under the wing of Necare, he was being forced to learn about something which he hated, which would obviously drive him further into his state of despondent distrust of everyone.
That was beautiful, the moment mort first met the humans almost brought a tear to my eye and idk why
Aw thank you! I find his story pretty emotional as well, although I intentionally left out some of his angst just to hammer home the feelings of abandonment that he must have experienced from this whole story.

Thank you very much! I do actually have quite a long script written for Corvus's entire story, from origin to disappearance, but I need to do a full rewrite of it. It's not particularly engaging when compared to the other vids (my own fault of writing it poorly, not the fault of the story), so at some point I'll need to sit down and plough through it. I do actually really like Corax as well, so I need to do him justice with a good video!

Most enjoyable.
He is a tragic character. But also is a poor choice maker and and unfeeling brute. It makes him formidable with the addition of the ruinous powers. I suspect he will be slain by a loyal Primarch at some point. Robute tried and failed and died with his effort. But he is not the only Primarch Mortarion will eventually have to deal with. Perhaps a Wolf will be his end?
Ya know, if you name a baby Mortarion, he's going to have problems. JS

Dearest Scholar, are you using the word 'sorted' instead of 'sordid', or is the voice reading it wrong? It's the second video I've noticed it in, and I listen to these repeatedly to go to bed, so I keep hearing it😅. I thought I'd ask to satisfy my curiosity.
And of course on this listen, I heard a later use of the word correctly pronounced as sordid 😂
Morty hates authority...even his own. He will remain, always, the Archetype of seeking to escape domination. This is why he is a '40k Someone to Watch" thematic shifter. Imagine a Morty that rejects Nurg...asks for brotherly help with the exception he gets his own stuff as long as it's outside of Imperium interests...quite a blow to Nurg...quite a boon to the Imperium as he'll be always on the fringes battling any incursive powers.
So now I have heard two different story’s of how he started helping the humans. This one of just curious and another where he saw some humans fighting some of the overlords troops and one called to him for help and when asked why he said cuz you gave me a choice.

As always, I really like your narration - thanks alot for the video! IMO the base story just seems so weak. "I'm evil now, because someone else saved my people." The original authors could have done so much more with his upbringing by a literal monster.
He should be maddingly curious, and secretly not care at all about his peoples or anyone else - why should he? He has never known humanity, empathy, family - but has been studying all his life.

Mortarion has always been one of my least favourite primarchs (in character not design) as I never understood his real motivations for betraying the emperor but now I do so thanks for that
