5 Day Firewood Haul at My Cabin in the Woods

- In this video, I share footage from the 5 days it took me to completely fill the new woodshed at my off grid cabin. After completing the construction of my woodshed, it was time to fill it! Using alder, cedar, douglas fir and more, I hand split and stacked it all to supply myself with about 5 cords for this coming winter.
Thanks for watching!

Keep bringing home wood stack between trees like you did before reason is, a friend or neighbor could become ill or injured, that extra supply could be life saving for their family! Homesteading is community living, always being able to help in anyway possible! Staying warm is a must for survival where you live! I do believe if you got a call or over heard someone needing help, no doubt you would be there!!! You have compassion and heart, your community is lucky to have you! Continue to be a blessed man and share some of your blessings! Sending peace and love!❤ By the way the wood shed is incredible, so beautiful it’s like art in the yard!❤
If he worried about everyone then his firewood stacking would never end. If you can not fend for yourself, then it is time to move to a nursing home.
@@NightThings99 A nursing home won't take care of you. It'll just make your suffering even worse. Would you rather die peacefully in your cabin or tragically pass away in a nursing home where disgruntled CNAs and nurses neglect and abuse you? No privacy, the smell of urine and poop filling the hallways because countless residents haven't been changed in days, no dignity whatsoever.

Well said. You hit the nail on the head.
Ditto
That little Nissan is a work horse for ya, like seeing trucks being used as they should be.
Maybe adding some cargo-grade coils to the rear may help with the loading of firewood.
Keep all the scraps from shingling for starting fires. You will be surprised how quickly it will disappear. You are ready for winter, good planning.
Extraordinary result and you should be proud of your efforts. Well done you!!
I love the woodshed and it's even better filled! Love the way you work too - so tidy and thoughtful. Also, being a blessing to Al shows your heart and motivation and its really admirable. Well done.
I pulled the stick advice Al gave from your previous video also. My winter stack has much more stability in it now, and as a newbie wood pile guy I’ll be much happier when the winter comes knowing the pile stands a chance at staying upright. Thanks guys 🌲
Thanks for helping the man cleaning up all those roads from trees and etc.
It's always great to watch a much younger person I'm 77 years with the get up and go, to do so much on their own for themselves and others. Your elder neighbour surely appreciates your efforts. A comment from Nova Scotia , Canada on the Atlantic ocean , just south of Newfoundland/.Labradour, where in my province we have access to the ocean 35 miles from where you may be in any direction.
We love splitting and stacking wood! Love heating the home with it. Nothing more satisfying.
19:22 and 20:28 that is an honorable thing. Cleaning the road after working with the log. A good amount of people would have left it, but you cleaned it up. Thank you 20:45 even picking up a leaf, wow that is awesome.
I appreciate your hard work and taking responsibility and cleaning up after yourself. Not a lot of people would do that. Thank you.
Calming.. That sums up your videos.. I live very rural like you & have been gathering wood, splitting & stacking.. Never ending job but rewarding.. Keep doin' you & at the end of the day feel proud of your accomplishments..
I follow a half-dozen channels like Diego's. Seems like spring into fall is consumed with gathering and splitting wood, and the remainder of the year with shoveling and moving snow. It has to be hard on both body and mind.
@@connieschachel9705 that's exactly what we do. Spring & summer are definitely made up of long days. I wouldn't live any other way. Hard work & perseverance..
I appreciate that you are aware of the environment. You clearly care about the health and safety of the foliage and fauna around you.
The wood shed you constructed is much more pleasing to the eye than the bought ones.
Thats a woodshed to be proud of, lots of fuel for the winter! Thank you for filming, narrating and sharing. Thumbs up from Sweden 🇸🇪
TIM from Canada dig a couple holes in the ground and then this way you can start burning off what you do not need and when you are doing this, it will help you out get rid of the bugs. Do you have decent hole? Start burning what you have it seems like you have a good access to wood so if you start burning what you do not need then come to springtime you can start picking up new supply Always have a burn pit somewhere on your lawn dig a good size hole on your lawn away from everything make sure it is clear by bush trees… and then this way you can burn all your access. It is always good to have some sort of a burn pile even if you were going to do this you can clear out a good size area start dumping out your wood and stuff. If it starts to rain this is a good time for you to start burning.
Great job neighbor. Couldn’t have done it better…no really. You nailed it, and sawed it. 😂
I agree, and I’m Canadian. Washington, Idaho and Montana are my favs all only for the firewood. Hahahaha Nice job done Diego!
Build a saw horse the rough height of your tailgate and pull the pieces out and set the end on the saw horse to cut. Easier than pulling all the way out and bending over to cut
Nice Job Diego!! Next time you fill up the shed, put the green stuff at the end, away from the cabin. 10-15 extra feet in the snow/rain will matter!! Very nice Job!!!
Super cool, thats soo much wood! Me and my dogs moved to the woods to make a log cabin on RUclips we are 8days in! Your videos are really well made ❤️
Just found your channel, subscribed, these wood gathering videos is like be part of the Washington State road crew. One man doing all the work while we all sit back and watch 😄 someone say lunch time ☕️🥪
Looking forward to your other videos.
Brilliant job of gathering, processing and stacking. Admire your physicality and persistence. Al’s advice (mentoring) is a valuable thing. Thank you for an interesting vlog. Phil, Suffolk U.K. 👍😁🇬🇧
That is a gorgeous woodshed!
Diego knows it's pretty now, but winter is coming. That is the best looking and most well stocked wood shed we have ever seen Diego. Great job. Sounds so minimalistic, but we know how much hard work went into that. We admire you a lot.
Keep up the good work. I'll be watching your uploads.
great work! You must be so satisfied knowing you're ready for whatever winter tosses your way.
Your woodshed is amazing. You have a lot of wood ready for winter. I agree with you I also love living in Washington State.
Great video your a hard worker. And I can tell from your actions your respectful nature.
I believe Cedar is a soft coniferous wood. Typically not used for firewood as it is a quick flashier burn emitting lower BTUs. Try to stick to hard wood. Cherry, maple, ash, iron wood as examples. Good luck. Fire wood is great exercise. I did it for eleven years when we lived in upstate NY near Lake Ontario.
Well done you have done a great job ,in providing yourself with firewood for those cold days and nights.A lot of hard work, with some muscle and back pain.So make sure you enjoy it.The way it’s stacked it will dry out for you.👏👏👏👏👏.
Nice build, I would have put sides on it spaced apart which would allow air flow and make the wood stacks sturdier.
You’re such a responsible hard working young man! Keep up the the great videos!
Watching another video. I enjoyed watching you build the wood shed
Amazing work on the cover for your fire wood. Congratulations 🎊🎉
Your the second guy that keeps his land nice an neet very clean just wonderful love it
He looks like a main character.
Been wondering when I would get to see this video. Thank you Diego. I enjoy watching you work and work through solutions.
Just found your channel. Great work ethic and along for the journey
That’s an awesome firewood hall. Everything is looking good 😊
Just found your channel and you got a new sub.
Looks like you’re living the dream! I lived in Woodby Island many years ago as a young boy. Miss it was a wonderful place to grow up. Peace be with you.
Wood shed looks amazing !!! All your hard work paid off !
You are a wonderful, dynamic, creative person. I really like your work. You are a wonderful, dynamic and creative person. I really like your work in addition to being made of environmentally friendly wood. I wish you good health and success. I will always Stay with you.
Really enjoyed this series mate - keeping ya strong 💪
Love seeing you get it done with the Makita chainsaw!! Nothing wrong with battery operated equipment for home use. I love my Ryobi and even upgraded from 14 to 18 inch blade.
I love that you leave in the mistakes anyone could make. Others would leave it out. Also, that truck must be screaming silently every time you load it up with those heavy logs. haha
Well Done Diego! I have enjoyed this series. Can watch cutting and splitting forever. Dont understand why, just enjoy it.......Keep up the good work.
You did good on the firwood build. It looks like it fits in its surroundings trees.. I 😘 ve the construction..God bl ss..Ne Safe..
God Bless..PRAY ON!!!❤️🙏🌹
Great videos. The dry rotten wood will burn really really well as its not solid it gets dryer and more airflow when burning, great when first starting a fire but not what you want to use once the fire is up to speed.
Amazing wood shed build. It will last longer than all of us. Great job. Your over thinking pays off big time. Don't worry about the oil in the water. The oil came from the ground and the little spinning off the chain will not affect the environment. It is was a beautiful shot. Boy, get yourself a winch. They have boat type hand crank winches for less than $20. Anything is better than chasing wood down a steep slope. They even make a mount to put in your hitch. Or I am sure you could think something up. Save your back
I think it's awesome you getting wood from a long the road ways that's great
Love your videos and your temperament in narrarating
Thank you for sharing your back woods lifestyle.
It's very satisfying watching your wood pile grow and free too ( excluding all the hard work) especially as we have to buy ours and it's pretty expensive!
Well done , loads of hard work there , greetings to the lovely Julia
The lovely Julia is back!! Sweet. She's so cool.
And, of course, Al (Older DB Cooper) has his blessings with such a lucky young neighbor that can complete
his dream finality!
Diego, I was worried about you being hurt when you fell and you were worried about your truck 😅 glad you are alright, you work so hard makes me tired. Take care.
You work real hard. 😢 did good ❤
I really like your channel. I myself love the outdoors. I love hunting and fishing and nature it's self. Living here in West Virginia I get to experience some of what you do but being much older and happily married for 40 years I only get to experience some. Lol😊 Glen and Karen.
You work so hard!
Good day Sir. Thanks for the content this morning.
I really like your videos, thanks for sharing.
You are doing good in the world, cleaning up waste wood, roads and getting paid to collect wood to heat your home. I like it 👍👍
You need to put your boots on when you are working with power tools.this from a 71year old granny from South Africa😊
I’m sorry I laughed when the log rolled off the road!!
I liked that Doors song, reminds me of my youth !
Cheers Diego ... Good video . A tip from Oz regarding towing logs up onto the road . I use a 4 to 5 metre fabr ic tow strap with 2 hooks on ,that you can buy cheap from a 4WD store (like a snatch strap ) . Being shorter you can control it more with your truck by driving across the road and bring it up from sides, rather than dragging it along . Here the logs are a lot harder and heavier than the USA .. Keep up good work JR
Fun, informative and entertaining. Ty!
TIM from Canada if you can find 5 half decent skids…. you use this as a leftover fire box what I mean is the first skid you put on the ground then you put the other four skids around to make a box and then you use leftover pieces to tie all of this together…. or if you can find someone that has IBC totes then you take out the plastic you put your firewood inside of this or leave the plastic inside cut off the top and put the leftover pieces that you have inside close to your house or put it in your garage then you put the leftovers inside the totes. You can build some boxes with the wood you have left over or stack it beside the side of your house.
Al is correct about the stacking and the sticks between the rows
Here's a little tip for ya, if you're getting firewood in areas you're concerned about the B&C oil contaminating, you can use vegetable oil like pro carvers do. You gotta watch to not run your saw too hard or hot and you'll run through a lot more oil, but it's safer for the environment. Also great video!
Idea for WINTER storms.......what about roll-up screens on the sides, to protect the wood from driving snow, and rain. Wow good job, all around.
Great job on your wood shed mate! Looks like a beautiful part of the world. Whats up from SW WA (Southwest Western Australia)
man you do not want to mess with candidness & firewood
cedar makes a great fire starter and makes a very hot fire . you got fire starter heaven going on lol
When you started pulling up to the timber at the waterfall I was thinking they are 3-4 inch diameter branches till you started cutting - wow they were much bigger than I thought
Hi Diego, I recently came upon your channel by chance, and I will tell you I appreciate your content. Your genuineness and perspective make this channel enjoyable. I'm looking forward to further videos. Respectfully, Ron Kills Warrior (Yes, that is my last name; I am Native American.)
That's a lot of wood 🪵🪓 I are cutting, back breaking.like the video 👍🌄👏
Enough kindling to last a lifetime!
You have a very great skill.
Great job and an awesome workout
Man I missed a couple, that wood shed looks awesome my friend 👍 Love the art very creative :) Lots of nice firewood & yes nothing wrong with batteries for a chainsaw, I have been pushing with my build but slowed a little with an injury for a bit, work safe never get in a hurry, lots of kindling & pieces it all burns :)
Your building videos are amazing….thx for sharing and of course anything helping Al is my favorite!
Diego!... you tried hard in this video. Great work sir.
Good exercise the best Joe good job
Makes a lot more sense didn’t know you didn’t have power up there definitely worth saving up for 3 medium sized panels should be able to do most of what ya need
Interesting and informative. Thank you.
& got news Northern Maine has got you beat by a lot and less people!! lol lucky you. got ur wood all done sweet good luck & God bless
You’re the best man do you know what you’re doing? Very good sounds like I would be. I was younger.
you following that log down into the ditch reminds me of friend riding motorcycle,he was listening to engine in the mountains road was curvy he pulled over in about 20 feet what he thought was grass on side of road.the people that cut the grass used a straight arm cutter, he pulled over into 15 feet tall grass and landed (luckily) on a ledge nearly falling off mountain.
very nice video, thank you Diego
Alder trees are the best for smoking salmon. It's a slow, tasty smoke burn. 👍
Do you have to get a,Forest Service permit to retrieve roadside firewood? You're doing an awesome firewood retrieval! I love firewood retrieval❤ stay safe, please 🙏
Nice to see someone using a pickup truck for pickuptrucking.
I hadn't even thought of oil contaminating a waterway. If you ever wanted to go back there you could use vegetable oil instead of bar and chain oil. A friend mentioned they do that when cutting up big moose at his butcher shop. might be worth a try.
Washinton State (US) and BC(Canada) best places. I grew up in BC, and the weather and nature are perfect. I would not live anywhere else.
Så trivelig og se at du fyller opp vedskjulet ditt, og at du henter vedtømmer langs veien, og at du rydder opp og gjør det reint og pent rundt deg. Jeg driver med vinterveden nå her i Halden. Norge. Hilsen Den7vendefarivedhaugen.
A couple of suggestions:
Get a taller splitting block & put 2 tyres wired together to hold the wood when you split it (higher stops them flying off & you can put in more in)
Build something to help hold your logs so you aren't cutting on the ground all bent over eg stop off loading from your truck and buck them off the tailgate i stead of on the ground
Get a remote control winch for your truck as this is far better for pulling out trees
😮😮😮😮
Good job👏
