Build a saw horse the rough height of your tailgate and pull the pieces out and set the end on the saw horse to cut. Easier than pulling all the way out and bending over to cut
It's always great to watch a much younger person I'm 77 years with the get up and go, to do so much on their own for themselves and others. Your elder neighbour surely appreciates your efforts. A comment from Nova Scotia , Canada on the Atlantic ocean , just south of Newfoundland/.Labradour, where in my province we have access to the ocean 35 miles from where you may be in any direction.
19:22 and 20:28 that is an honorable thing. Cleaning the road after working with the log. A good amount of people would have left it, but you cleaned it up. Thank you 20:45 even picking up a leaf, wow that is awesome.
I love the woodshed and it's even better filled! Love the way you work too - so tidy and thoughtful. Also, being a blessing to Al shows your heart and motivation and its really admirable. Well done.
Calming.. That sums up your videos.. I live very rural like you & have been gathering wood, splitting & stacking.. Never ending job but rewarding.. Keep doin' you & at the end of the day feel proud of your accomplishments..
I follow a half-dozen channels like Diego's. Seems like spring into fall is consumed with gathering and splitting wood, and the remainder of the year with shoveling and moving snow. It has to be hard on both body and mind.
@@connieschachel9705 that's exactly what we do. Spring & summer are definitely made up of long days. I wouldn't live any other way. Hard work & perseverance..
TIM from Canada dig a couple holes in the ground and then this way you can start burning off what you do not need and when you are doing this, it will help you out get rid of the bugs. Do you have decent hole? Start burning what you have it seems like you have a good access to wood so if you start burning what you do not need then come to springtime you can start picking up new supply Always have a burn pit somewhere on your lawn dig a good size hole on your lawn away from everything make sure it is clear by bush trees… and then this way you can burn all your access. It is always good to have some sort of a burn pile even if you were going to do this you can clear out a good size area start dumping out your wood and stuff. If it starts to rain this is a good time for you to start burning.
Nice Job Diego!! Next time you fill up the shed, put the green stuff at the end, away from the cabin. 10-15 extra feet in the snow/rain will matter!! Very nice Job!!!
Brilliant job of gathering, processing and stacking. Admire your physicality and persistence. Al’s advice (mentoring) is a valuable thing. Thank you for an interesting vlog. Phil, Suffolk U.K. 👍😁🇬🇧
Diego knows it's pretty now, but winter is coming. That is the best looking and most well stocked wood shed we have ever seen Diego. Great job. Sounds so minimalistic, but we know how much hard work went into that. We admire you a lot.
Well done you have done a great job ,in providing yourself with firewood for those cold days and nights.A lot of hard work, with some muscle and back pain.So make sure you enjoy it.The way it’s stacked it will dry out for you.👏👏👏👏👏.
I believe Cedar is a soft coniferous wood. Typically not used for firewood as it is a quick flashier burn emitting lower BTUs. Try to stick to hard wood. Cherry, maple, ash, iron wood as examples. Good luck. Fire wood is great exercise. I did it for eleven years when we lived in upstate NY near Lake Ontario.
I had a chance to get some cedar this year and I found out that it has 21 million BTUs per ton. The cedar had more BTUs than the sugar pine I got. Sometimes you get what you can get I'm a scavenger and I try to get whatever Wood's free. I do agree with you though if you can get some eucalyptus or oak or maple it gives more heat.

Great videos. The dry rotten wood will burn really really well as its not solid it gets dryer and more airflow when burning, great when first starting a fire but not what you want to use once the fire is up to speed.

Amazing wood shed build. It will last longer than all of us. Great job. Your over thinking pays off big time. Don't worry about the oil in the water. The oil came from the ground and the little spinning off the chain will not affect the environment. It is was a beautiful shot. Boy, get yourself a winch. They have boat type hand crank winches for less than $20. Anything is better than chasing wood down a steep slope. They even make a mount to put in your hitch. Or I am sure you could think something up. Save your back

Love seeing you get it done with the Makita chainsaw!! Nothing wrong with battery operated equipment for home use. I love my Ryobi and even upgraded from 14 to 18 inch blade.
TIM from Canada if you can find 5 half decent skids…. you use this as a leftover fire box what I mean is the first skid you put on the ground then you put the other four skids around to make a box and then you use leftover pieces to tie all of this together…. or if you can find someone that has IBC totes then you take out the plastic you put your firewood inside of this or leave the plastic inside cut off the top and put the leftover pieces that you have inside close to your house or put it in your garage then you put the leftovers inside the totes. You can build some boxes with the wood you have left over or stack it beside the side of your house.
Cheers Diego ... Good video . A tip from Oz regarding towing logs up onto the road . I use a 4 to 5 metre fabr ic tow strap with 2 hooks on ,that you can buy cheap from a 4WD store (like a snatch strap ) . Being shorter you can control it more with your truck by driving across the road and bring it up from sides, rather than dragging it along . Here the logs are a lot harder and heavier than the USA .. Keep up good work JR
Here's a little tip for ya, if you're getting firewood in areas you're concerned about the B&C oil contaminating, you can use vegetable oil like pro carvers do. You gotta watch to not run your saw too hard or hot and you'll run through a lot more oil, but it's safer for the environment. Also great video!
When you started pulling up to the timber at the waterfall I was thinking they are 3-4 inch diameter branches till you started cutting - wow they were much bigger than I thought
I hadn't even thought of oil contaminating a waterway. If you ever wanted to go back there you could use vegetable oil instead of bar and chain oil. A friend mentioned they do that when cutting up big moose at his butcher shop. might be worth a try.

You need a couple 5/16 tested (hardened)..chains. Buy one chain maybe 10' long and one chain 15'. Pull with the shortest chain possible. Forget that cable never hook a cable back into the cable you will "kink" the cable. Put a grab hook on one end of each chain and a slip hook on the other of each chain. Use the slip hook around the log and the grab goes around your ball hitch and back into the chain--HOOK IT AS SHORT AS POSSIBLE back right up to the log. Short is your friend here. Then pull as close to 90 degrees to the road as possible straight across the road not down the road. JeffinMaine

I love that you leave in the mistakes anyone could make. Others would leave it out. Also, that truck must be screaming silently every time you load it up with those heavy logs. haha
You should take some of the Cedar kindling and put them into your closet ... you won't have mots or bugs eating your clothings then. And it smells amazing ... :D Greetings from Berlin/Germany.
Good video. Imagine if you would have brought your truck closer to the log, but looped the cable over your hitch then back to the log to shorten the cable. You would have forced the log onto the road as opposed to leaving it to drag far from your truck. Same when you use the chain, try making a bigger loop when you lock the hook to the chain so your log(s) are closer to the truck. You'll have better control of the logs and your chains and cables will be shorter.

It's very satisfying watching your wood pile grow and free too ( excluding all the hard work) especially as we have to buy ours and it's pretty expensive!
A couple of suggestions:
Get a taller splitting block & put 2 tyres wired together to hold the wood when you split it (higher stops them flying off & you can put in more in)
Build something to help hold your logs so you aren't cutting on the ground all bent over eg stop off loading from your truck and buck them off the tailgate i stead of on the ground
Get a remote control winch for your truck as this is far better for pulling out trees
