  • The official tour of the ultimate off-grid cabin on my Alaska homestead. From the foundation to the roof pitch, I go over all the details about my dream cabin I built in the woods of interior Alaska. I also show you the rest of the property including the wood fired sauna, the wood shed, the tool shed and of course...the outhouse.

My son is 21 now and built himself a cabin like this when he was 19, only his has a bathroom. Paid for it all, and his Dad helped him build. He still lives there and really likes it. It's affordable, too.

@snakeonix9105 Yes, on our land. He still pays us rent for the space, though it may not be what he would normally be charged.
We like having him around to help take care of the animals. It's a win-win for us.

Head full of knowledge and curiosity. Keep surviving and thriving bucko. All gas, no brakes. Godspeed.

I would have to live by a hospital or pharmacy to do this! I have severe asthma and would go totally paranoid in that situation. But , because of people like you I get to see it, what’s funny, is I’m a performer, singer , dancer, actor, funny guy , do of course I live in NYC! Come visit , you might be over- whelmed how much you love it!!

Even more impressive that this was your first project! I’m super jealous of your setup, and you should be proud of what you and your buds accomplished by building this. Great work!!

Skirting does make it much warmer. I lived in a trailer home for a time that'd originally didn't have it, and when I added it, it made a HUGE difference. Only catch is you'll likely have animals tearing into it for the warmth, so I'd use some kind of metal version. Definitely want to use foam board as well to insulate it.

The fact you have trees all around you for firewood for the wood stove. The inside i love. Futon couch that pulls out to a bed. The coffee table your wife built herself fantastic!!! The gas stove as a backup. The kitchen. Using a hot water pot since you have snow and a creek or lake around in summer!!! Water goes through the sink into bucket smart!!! Stove runs on propane and not electricity. Love the loft!!! Extra bed for friend dog. Love you have a generator and an electrician for a friend!!!! Great that you and your wife enjoy cabin life with an outhouse, sauna, woodhouse and a toolshed!!!

My husband sent me this video. We are planning to start building in the late spring in upper peninsula Michigan. Similar climate. Very cold. Lots of snow. We bought blueprints that include windows up high. I was thinking to leave those out. Thanks to your comment about lighting, I will use the windows. Also, I love your kitchen sink setup. We will also have a dry cabin, so this pot setup will be perfect!

Very nice cabin. When seeing buildings on a property I've often remarked that it's too bad they didn't make a SINGLE outbuilding large enough to house everything so the place wouldn't look so scattered. I did see something like that some time ago and it was much more esthetically pleasing to the eye. The outbuilding had 3 doors because they were really three buildings in one, each section being used for a specific purpose. So nice to see a clean set-up like that instead of so many buildings detracting from the cabin.
