By the look of your tunnelling candles, it is already too late to save them the foiling way as your wicks are just too short. What I would suggest however is to buy a couple of wicks online, they're really cheap the pre-waxed wicks are like $4 for 100. Buy those, boil or cook the candle in its jar if the glass is safe to heat. Have the candle melt fully, remove the old wick, place the new one in. let it cool, then you can trim the wick to where you want it and try again, you will be saving the outer layers of wax from the tunnelling that is happening and you can repeat this as often as you like when the wick has run out until there is no more wax left to burn.
A lot of people don't know how to burn candles correctly unfortunately. Most come with a guide on how to burn correctly but, let's be honest, it's a candle, who thinks about reading a bit of paper on how to burn it? Definitely need to leave it to go right to the edge as in the video - usually three to four hours. As for the candles that only have scent in the top of the candle, this is also sadly true, it's appalling that people make candles like this, and there's also a lot of other sneaky things some do - including make a small scented candle, popping it into a glass and then filling around with unscented wax. Still work as a scented candle but not as well as it should do. Cheap candles though are the same as any other cheap product and you really do pay for what you get.
this is so incredible thank you so much xx I will pin this post if that is ok ... such perfect information .. I did not even know candles come with instructions ha ha xxx

The wick is too short. It’s too late just pour hot water in there and let the melted wax float to the top and once it’s cooled and has set take the block of wax out and use a candle wax warmer! That way you save the wax and can still use it and can repurpose the jar as well
i hope it’ll smell nice! it’s vanilla apple cinnamon. should i pour out the wax btw after i let it burn or should i just let it be? or will it harden? sorry it’s my first time really
I have always heard if candle is 2 inches across minimum burn is 2 hours. So 1 hour per inch of candle (across not height). I love them. Thanks Claire. Hugs Sheryl
After watching the vid, I got a better understanding of how candles work. And with a candle that I burned incorrectly, I got an idea: how about I push the sides of the unmelted wax towards the flame and see if that helps the candle in the long run. Wish me luck
Heyyy Michelle .. sorry for the delayed response .. I am a week behind on replying to comments. No you dont as the top layer will melt away much quicker after that first burn x
TRICK TO FIX TUNNELING- use aluminum foil (2-3 layers depending on if you got the regular kind of the nonstick which is already thicker and bring it up several inches higher than the top of the candle container and dome it over the candle while the candle burns (if it's a single wick I dome it so the opening is maybe the size of a nail polish bottle), this helps contain the heat and will do one of two things which is either melt the uneven wax giving you a flat top again or it'll soften the uneven part enough that you can use a butter knife or a spoon to carve that piece out (save it to use in a wax warmer) and let the candle flatten back out. If I see that the candle has flattened out then I'll leave the foil be to cool off on it's own along with the candle however if I have to remove the wax chunk I use an oven mitt to remove the foil because it will be hot. I have used this trick on 1 wick candles up to 4 wick candles because sometimes my husband loves to turn on ceiling fans which is just enough to mess up my candles without me realizing it. The photos I've seen online of people doing this are very conservative with the height of the foil and I found that just isn't as effective or takes longer so I found a thicker foil layer and having it a little higher up really does hold in the most heat. I haven't had a single candle this hasn't worked on in the 15 years I've been doing this trick. I am shocked to learn that there's candles made with fragrance only at the top, I was wondering about that for awhile now so to find out that's true is so disappointing. Anyways, hope this trick helps.
Even my diptyque candle tunnelled!! So expensive man, thanks i knew we had to burn to the edge, but I didn’t know it had to be around 5mm of liquid wax. I’ve been doing everything wrong omg hahahahahahha
OK I have always burned a candle the right way. There are instructions right on it. But my question is, if u burn it the right way the first time and then blow it out and let it sit overnight or at least till it cools all the way down, what about lighting it the second time. Do you still have to let it burn from side to side or can you let it burn about 20 minutes or so, make a little tunnel then blow it out and then the 3rd time will it keep it's memory and burn all way from side to side?
You could try twisting together 5 or more linen threads for a wick, then putting your thumb on wax and pull the threads between your finger and the wax to make the threads stick together. Then put a lollypop stick (popsicle stick) across the top of the candle jar and tie one end of the thread to it and let the rest dangle to the bottom of the candle. Then find the "power level" button on a microwave and turn it down to the lowest setting and microwave the wax until the top is perfectly flat. I haven't tried this, but I will if someone replies and asks me to.
Thanks so much lovely... great tip for anyone trying. I haven't made candles since .... I would probably invest in a proper kit next time and hopefully not make the same mistakes x😁😁🙌🙌
Salvage tunnelled candles by turning them into wax melts- melt the wax and pour into any silicon mould, then just pop in them in a wax burner. Easier than re-melting them and putting another wick in (odly enough, finding the right wick is not easy...I've been testing this for a couple of months now.)
Oh! I got it. Put the aluminum foil around the candle first thing and keep it there! That should prevent tunneling from ever happening. I guess the challenge would be to make that look good.
Heyyyy Farah .. if you are burning it for the first time .. just burn it until the whole surface has melted. just insert a wooden toothpick same as the depth of tunnel right beside your existing wick. burn your existing wick like the way you do. make chimney of foil paper. toothpick will now become an extension of your wick in no time. and tunnel would be gone in few minutes.
You just need to burn them until the top layer is pure liquid all the way to the edge ... that could be 2 hours that could be 5 hours .. you just have to ensure that it is safe to do so
I also keep used dryer sheets and use them to wipe down my candle jar on the inside and outside. They are magic cleaners! Gets rid of the black left behind and cleans up the residue left around the inside of your jar. This way, it still looks clean and pretty while your candle is burning.
Ahhhh hey Sherry thank you for such a great tip x I've not heard of this before but it's such a cool thing to know ! Xx I hate that blackness on the glass as the candle burns x ❤
Yes people really don’t understand that there is a right way to burn a candle. Trimming the wicks, burning until the entire top is pooled, putting it out properly… All those things. I bought top warmers and bottom warmers so that if there’s an issue with a candle that’s not burning properly or is scorching, I use the warmer instead. Bath and Bodyworks is my preferred candle.
Honestly .. if I did this again... I would do it right ! Buy the proper elements .. but an actual candle making kit with proper wax and scents / oils etc ...
Claire’s Crafty Corner I would love to do that.. It actually worked but I had to melt the sides while it burned. Only took a couple minutes but now it's burning perfectly!!
You can only fix Candle tunneling if you catch it at the very beginning. Once it goes down more than a quarter inch it starts to be a problem. The wicks will drown. That’s when you need a top warmer.
When you burn a candle for the very first time ... you need to burn for 4-5 hours until the entire top layer of wax is melted from edge to edge .... If you do not do this .... it will tunnel forever. If you did do this when you very first lit the candle ..... and its tunnelling ? Then I would send the candle back. Sounds very strange to me for the candle to burn straight down from brand new. It must be faulty.
I, an uncultured swine, have thought that tunneling was the actual norm for burning candles. Never did I know that wax EVAPORATED and is NOT supposed to drown the wick

@@ClairesCraftyCorner gotcha thank you!
Thanks for Info. Very trueb
so welcome x
Do you have to burn them for hours ?
You just need to burn them until the top layer is pure liquid all the way to the edge ... that could be 2 hours that could be 5 hours .. you just have to ensure that it is safe to do so
@@ClairesCraftyCorner thank you ❤️
I also keep used dryer sheets and use them to wipe down my candle jar on the inside and outside.
Bath and Bodyworks is my preferred candle.
ohhhhh I wish wish wish we had bath and body works here !! xxx
I once was given an expensive candle and I never smelled anything :(
Ohhhh no way 😭😭 that is actually heart breaking ! Do love candles x
Do I dispose the melted wax after or just let it dry for the next use?
just let it dry out x
@@ClairesCraftyCorner thank you! :*
So the point is sit on a flat surface?? I'm asking because I heard so much filler and that was it..
Honestly .. if I did this again...
@@Swnsasy ohhh that is good news !! I also found the smell of this one was non-existent lol just smelled of wax x
You can only fix Candle tunneling if you catch it at the very beginning. Once it goes down more than a quarter inch it starts to be a problem. The wicks will drown. That’s when you need a top warmer.
ahhhh yes that is what i thought xx lots of people said they dig out the wax x
@@ClairesCraftyCorner I hate to waste it😊
Loved this video! Thanks for sharing
so happy you found it helpful xxxx
Wow🤯
🤣🤣🙌🙌 right
I love candles 🕯
They can make everything cosy can't they xx 😍😍
What about when it’s really cold weather and it starts to tunnel but only on one side? 🤨👀
Heyyy lovely ... I would wrap it in tin foil to even it out x
I love this video Thanks so much
hey thanks so much Yeezy x glad you do x
Mine never burns to the edge it just burns down the middle?
When you burn a candle for the very first time ... you need to burn for 4-5 hours until the entire top layer of wax is melted from edge to edge ....
If you do not do this .... it will tunnel forever.
If you did do this when you very first lit the candle ..... and its tunnelling ? Then I would send the candle back. Sounds very strange to me for the candle to burn straight down from brand new. It must be faulty.
I, an uncultured swine, have thought that tunneling was the actual norm for burning candles. Never did I know that wax EVAPORATED and is NOT supposed to drown the wick
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Maria ... uncultured Swine made me howl 🤣🤣🤣 I never knew about this until a few years back so I promise you're not alone 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Peace everyone 🕊️
:) x
loving the folklore candle 💀
:)
Like. Thumbs up
Literally only just seen this ! Thanks Bats 😁😁
You might be able to fix tunneling with tin foil if you put the candle on a warmer.
absolutely yes Mane .. you can but as I say in the video I have never had much luck with it x
I bet your candles are flickering ten to the dozen! Sweet dreams
😤😤😤
heyyy lovely .. I only ever burn one at a time :) dont wanna burn the house down
Put them in the oven at 350 until they are level. Drop a new wick in prior if needed.
oooo great tip thank you Phillip x
Can’t see the fascination in candles, ‘tho I do have some in case of an electricity failure.
yes always good to have a few of those xxx
Mary, you really are missing out!
My first candle is tunneled way past half 🤧😭😭😭
Many thanks for posting this vid! Such a life-saver! Just bought some flavoured candle myself for the first time from the endz.

Thank u so much I won't be wasting my five dollars
❤❤❤ so welcome xxx
I let the candle burn and it only burns around the wick and tunnels anyway and the longer it burns the deeper the tunnel gets
Ohhhhh no 😢😢😢 that's not good .. what brand is it ?
But....I burned mine for 2 to 3 hours I think even longer where the wick was almost dead because of the wax and it wouldn't burn to the side....🙃
oh no :( that is frustrating
Thank uuuuuuu
thank you too xxx
the tin fiol has always worked for tunneling for me!
thanks Kim xxx yeh its a great technique
I still dont know
This was great, thanks, I have been researching "how to make beeswax candles from raw beeswax" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Cenadoelyn Candle Contemplation - (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my mate got amazing success with it.
hey thank you so much ... no I have not heard of it .. after attempting to make my own candles a cheap route ... I think I will not visit it again lol
what i do is melt all the extra wax from a candle out then re-melt all of the extra wax with hot water from all of my candles into one big one
Now that sounds like a plan.. I think the finished candle would smell so much better than this experiment! Thanks so much for the tip ❤❤
