Standley Handcrafted It went AMAZING. Because of you, I got perfect candles the first time and continue to do well. Just about ready to label, package, photograph and launch. Thank you SO MUCH! I used your example of the Alex method. For me, this has been brilliant. Strong hot and cold little or no shrinking. I got all of the wick sizes right after binge watching all of your channels and stick to the HTP wicks for now. Strong hot and cold throw. No sink holes. A little frost now and again, but it isn’t anything my handy dandy heat gun won’t take care of. Again thank you so much! I wish internet had smell-o-vision so I could share. 😂

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts!!! I’m trying to start off with 6 different scents. 🙂 Besides Candle Science, what other brand is your 2nd choice for fragrances? I’m from the Virgin Islands and it’s extremely limited when it comes to purchasing candles or supplies. I have started testing my soy 415 candles as of last week but Candle Science products to ship here is a problem. I have ordered fragrances from The Nature’s Garden and will like another option as well. I feel where I’m located with proper advertising my candles WILL sell since it’s a small community and it will save people time and money to buy it since it’s a home based product. ❤️

I have 5 scents to start off with and 1 spring/ summer special. Vanilla, Macintosh Apple, Caribbean Teakwood, Nag Champa, Japanese Cherry Blossom and my spring/summer scent is Coconut Lime that I call Margaritaville 💚 Trying to narrow it down to those was such a difficult decision! There are so many good ones, I tested about 20 different fragrances. I think I will probably add Mahogany Coconut, it’s a really good one too! I also am still looking for a good Strawberry.

Ashley Hill Hello. I’ve been at this for about 3 years now. So wanted to chime in to help you out a bit with your strawberry. The absolute best strawberry that I have found to date that doesn’t smell like a strawberry chapstick or hard candy is either Sun Ripened Strawberry (421) from Wholesale Supplies Plus or Sweet Strawberry from The Flaming Candle. But if your looking for the most fresh picked kind of strawberry my favorite is Sun Ripened. Now it is about $40 a lb. but I wait until they have their 25% off sale and get what I need then. So instead of $40 I get it for $30. I know that may sound like a lot but it’s worth every penny! PLUS, at WSP anything over $25 is free shipping. You do still pay a handling fee but it’s worth it to me. The Sweet Strawberry which is a Yankee Type is $18.49 lb. Anyways, just thought I’d toss in my cents. Have a great day! 😇

Pumpkin Spice ANYTHING !! For me, it actually sold in areas you wouldn't think it would " go " ( like in the south where we were wearing shorts on Christmas Day ) . I think a lot of people burn it to make up for the fact it's either too hot to drink something hot, or they just want that feeling of being " in " if they don't have a SB or something like that around. And, in some cases, not all, it reminds snowbirds down here, of colder, crisp falls and winters they no longer have.

To start I’m going with fresh linen and wild lemon grass as my first two as I prefer fresh/clean year round scents and that seems to be the norm in my area too. Food scented candles don’t seem to be quite as popular in Ireland as they are in America but I’ll probably expand into a couple of those too anyway at some point

  • @SabrinaRina

I'm just trying to make gifts. This is nice info even for that. But I'll note that it's hard to find supplies, way more aimed in bulk (60 count versus 12 count) or fragrances out of 4oz only still in 16oz. I'll hold out on finances, but I'm not planning 60 gift candles and I'd like to be able to put a few things together. So scent choice is important on versatility and universal appeal.

Dr. W. Octavia MalVeaux Dent Once they’re poured you can run a heat gun over them and fix some.
Before pouring some people will heat their jars and you can also reduce them by pouring a little cooler.
They’re almost impossible to completely eliminate with wax contracting as it cools but you can reduce them a little.

Hi. I’ve been dabbling with making candles for about 4 mos now. So far I have not been successful in finding the right wick size for the vessel type and soy wax or fragrance scent throw. Sometimes the wick will start out with a real nice flame only to fizzle away to almost nothing. I buy my supplies from Amazon because of the free shipping but I’m not sure if the wax and essential oils they offer are equivalent to those of professional candle supplies companies. I really enjoy making the candles and I want to get really good results for my money. What are your thoughts on this?

It depends on what you're going for. I mix all ratios.

Long story short is I'm trying to find out the thread count/size on the difference Frangrance Oil bottles from different companies mainly Candlescience FO bottles and CandleWic FO bottles.
Would you happen to know if on can swap the tops from the 2 different companies and have them close without spillage(not saying I'll ever do this) becasue if I have to spend extra money on pipettes or have spillage while pouring out FO for smaller batches, I might as well spend a few extra pennies I'll just grab some 24-410 squirt tops caps(that size works with CS 1oz and 4oz bottles)but didn't know if I needed to order 2 difference sizes or if all the FO bottle tops have the same thread size

Mine are mostly 16 ounce candles and i wanted to try to sell them for $12-14 but someone told me no one would pay that much because you can buy candles at Walmart etc for $6 or $8. What do you think?

Check out Etsy! You'll see that 16oz homemade candles sell for at least $15 or more. Don't listen to anyone unless they're successful at selling candles =)

Hi! You have to sell your candle mor than $20, I know sounds too much now but you will need money for markets, web site, adds, shippings, etc. Always the smaller candles are the best sellers. Some people don't appreciate handmade products, it is fine, just put your energy in looking people who loves good candles and support small businesses. Good luck!!

I know it sounds like a lot but if someone wants to be cheap they can buy low quality headache inducing wal mart candles. Some people are looking for quality candles and will pay that much for handmade better ones. ESP on Etsy I see what prices others are charging and they seem pricey but lots of people are buying them you can see number of customers and reviews

Hike up that price, and focus on quality candles! you can't let others try to hold you down. Yeah, Walmart candles may sell for cheap, but you also get basic, generic fragrances, and toxic wicks. I've gotten dollar store candles that have nothing but tunneling too, plus the scents were way off to what the candle says it was supposed to smell like. Keep you eyes on your target market. Me personally, I plan to sell my 16.5 oz candles for close to $30. I'm marketing towards health conscious people who are also looking for unique fragrances. My market is not people who get all their candles from Walmart. Really, you should do your research. Look at what your competitors are selling their candles for. Go off of your base price (which is how much it cost to make the candle, including your time for making it. Take that price, times it by two, then take that price, and times it by two again. Then hike your prices up based off of what your Target Market, would pay, and what your competitors are selling for. Find your Niche. Something that people can't just get anywhere. (For me, I'm selling geeky witch candles to geeky witches. So... Yeah. Find who you want to sell to. Avoid that "Dollar Store Stigma"! Also, add things to the candle, or package that will justify the price in the eyes of your customers, such as nice packaging, maybe wooden wicks if you can afford it. Get creative.

I started with 15 scents making 7oz jars two weeks ago....have not sold a single candle. lol, I bought the Eternal Essence Oils due to the wild mixes they have, ($6 for 1oz bottle) for the candles, I ran across Candle Science and they seem to just have basic scents, but they are $3 for a 1oz. Thinking about changing to Candle Science...

I bought a digital kitchen scale off amazon for like $10 to do this

Also, is it a waste of time to do colored candles? I've been debating if it's worth the extra time and cost. Do people really care if the're colored and do they sell better then plain white? All of mine are colored but im not sure if it's worth the time and effort cleanup etc.
