    I forgot to talk about card readers. Square and Paypal are two great options for taking cards with small fee's attached.

      Square is expensive. They're still good for beginners, but as soon as I can I'm gonna get a business account at a bank.

      No buyer wants to PayPal or cash app you money, get a merchant account

    • @StandleyHandcrafted
      @StandleyHandcrafted  3 года назад

      @@UberManTampa I use PayPal or the Shopify app to take payments at markets and not one single person has ever said anything.
      Almost everyone is well versed with apps for taking credit cards now.
      I don’t think anyone at a market is telling people to just Venomo, PayPal, cash, me.

    I would highly, highly recommend either investing in tent weights or making your own. I have seen numerous occasions where a market takes place on a windy day and someone who didn't properly secure their tent down found it blowing across the parking lot/park and into someone else's merchandise. It's never a fun thing to witness, and I always find myself hoping, for their sake, that they have insurance. The weights can be purchased on Amazon or anywhere camping supplies are sold. Do yourself the favor.

    I subscribed to this channel for 3 reasons: 1. Keeping it basic; 2. Not trying to teach us every. single. little. detail. It's not overwhelming; 3. Easy to understand yet still very informative.
    So MANY other channels try to over complicate it to give it a "professional" feel...uh, no. Guys, listen to how Standley Handcrafted is doing it; he's got it right, he's keeping it stupid simple without trying to overwhelm us with everything he knows with an hour long or longer videos.
    Great videos!

    I want to know why farmer markets cost so much. Around here (AZ) it's between $60.00-$350.00. Sometimes $550. For 2 days and that is outside most of them. It's not cheap. And most of the time the spaces are to small for our 10x10 canopy. Sometimes we have to pay for 2 spaces. Needless to say, we don't do a lot of markets around here.

      Southphxgirl Nava Where I use to live Farmers Markets had outrages fees for setting up however I came up w a great idea (it worked for me but may not work for others) what I did was talked to small local businesses next to the Farmers Market within walking distance n we drew up a contract allowing me to set up my tent n etc on their property (usually in the front or side closest to the rd) I paid them a small fee (usually $50 a day sometimes less n sometimes I gav them a cpl free products I was selling) it was a great way to sale my products w/o going through the Farmer Market registration process n high fees or if I couldn’t get in period!!!! No one ever said anything to me about doing it that way!!!!! In fact the small town I live in now the Farmer Market is in middle of town n businesses around it allows tents to b set up or they will set them up on their property selling stuff!!!!

    Don’t forget proof of insurance! Many more professional or long running markets require proof that you carry insurance that covers both your products and lists the organization running the market or craft fair as being covered in event, say, that your tent blows over and damages a person, car or another vendor! (Your insurance co can give you separate certificates for each event)

    • @StandleyHandcrafted
      @StandleyHandcrafted  Год назад

      I think it really just comes down to good organization if you have a couple different candles styles, make sure they’re all together and on some kind of rack so they look good.
      I’ve seen tables that have 100 products that look amazing and I’ve seen some tables that have 30 products and it looks like they’re just thrown everywhere

    Very good information. Is this how you got your business known to the public??? is by doing markets? Here in very humid, and hot FL I'm not able to do markets, and with the virus there aren't many inside markets which I'm not able to wear a mask for any length of time due to very bad asthma. Do you know of another way to reach out to people? TY

    • @Jdkicked
      @Jdkicked 4 года назад

      Most people bring cash but not enough so they are only able to buy with cards after visiting a few booths. It is a BIG draw in for a lot of people if they can just pay with a card so i would recommend having a sign that says you accept cards

  • @Jdkicked
    @Jdkicked 4 года назад +3

    As far as change: BRING MORE $5 BILLS THAN YOU THINK YOU WILL NEED! In my experience, they are the best bills for making change because in most cases, being able to give them a $5 is ideal rather than giving them a bunch of $1s and you dont have to deal with the awkward situation I have seen some vendors in where you have to ask the customer for change because you only had $10s and $20s left (obviously looks unprofessional and is uncomfortable for all parties involved)

      Maybe that's something you should definitely discuss with your city council. Everyone is welcomed to voice their opinions, ideas, concern at their local City Hall. All you need to do is find out when is the next one and get on the agenda and go before council and mayor. Prepare a good argument and be professional.
