    Awesome guide Peter, really liked your explanations! I thought the different binder animation were interesting, so I did a few tests with it. Turns out him being in air or on ground makes no difference. It's only affected by the speed multiplier when enraged + when entering P3. So the 2 examples at around 09:45 shows the fastest (P3 + enraged) and the slowest (P2 + not enraged) animation.

    • @petercho546
      @petercho546  9 месяцев назад +4

      Well I'll be damned. Good to know! I noticed the inconsistency where sometimes I would bind Fatty right on the floor but the animation timinf/bind release was the same as if I had binded him out of the air. This made me think it may be dependent on his current animation or perhaps his stance (on rear legs or all 4's), but this makes sense. Thanks man!!

Time it right with his convulsing and it's big dps. Was pretty neat to learn that's possible. Not a helmbreaker tip, but I guess the tip is to not helmbreak there if it works out. xD

    • @petercho546
      @petercho546  28 дней назад

      @@tubeorange9425 Sorry for the late reply.
      Phase 2: you basically have 2, technically 3 options.
      1. Once Fatalis is in the middle, he will do a big wing flap that sounds out a stunning shockwave. This shockwave is actually dodgeable/parryable.
      You can actually do an iai spirit slash through the shockwave, converting into a spirit helmbreaker, hitting the thrust on the wing, and landing the downward helmbreaker on the head. The downside to this is if you don't get a head break with this helmbreaker, or you don't have a player to shoot a binder to knock him out of the air, you lose time because he will still be in the air.
      2. 1 player goes to the right ballista, and the other players (assuming there are any other players) will go to the small ramp on the ground. This way, the players are in a line facing fatalis, so no matter who he targets, he will turn to the same direction. The moment he turns, the binder binds fatalis out of the air, making his head land right on the ramp. The players on the ramp get instant damage on the head and the bind player doesn't have to run very far to start damaging him.
      It's hard to say which is better, as it is situational. Most of the time however, the iai spirit slash into helmbreaker is not going to be worth it. Even if you have a binder or you get a head break, the binder/other players kinda get screwed over no matter what. If you're solo, getting a bind and spamming aerial attacks off the ramp and hitting the head is massive massive damage. Throw in the "aerial attack" skill and you're basically throwing out a helmbreaker every 2 seconds. Kiza has the world record solo longsword kill on fatalis, and he/she does this strat.
      Phase 3 novas are all the same. In the video I demonstrated how you can tank the nova. As long as you have around 185 hp and fatalis has had at least 1 head break, you won't die to the big nova shockwave.
      If you do manage to tank it, you can get something out of it. Fatalis flying back to the ground and belly flopping is actually a parryable instance, so for longsword you can get a stack by either parrying with foresight, or doing the full spirit combo (if you have enough spirit bar). If you're already at red, you can do iai spirit slash without losing a stack. You can do helmbreaker as a follow up but it's rng if you'll land it/get hit.

    Can you do a guide on how to pull helmbreaker at the start of phase 3 (when Fatalis still in the air)? Apparently, there is a split second where you can connect the helmbreaker initial hit when Fatalis flap its wings. I found some videos on some people pulling it off but they do not put comment/guides like you do, so I have hard time pulling it off consistently.

    • @petercho546
      @petercho546  Год назад +3

      I have seen that and I don't recommend learning it unless you are really trying to just play for yourself even in a team environment.
      1. I am always the one using the binder right after 2nd nova/beginning of 3rd phase to bind him out of the air. This stops him from flying around like an asshole and also it gives a chance to do more head damage since his attacks will be buffed if you have not gotten 1 or 2 head breaks. So for me, there is no opportunity to do that helmbreaker.
      2. Even if I am not binding (which would only happen if someone else were to be the bind shooter), it would be better for me (and everyone else not doing the binder) to go to the small ramp on the floor in front of the ballista in preparation for the bind. If the binder is on the ballista and the other 3 players are on the ramp, Fatalis will always look in the same direction regardless of who he targets since everyone is already lined up. His head will land nicely on the ramp, making it easier to hit consistently as it moves a lot, and the head is now closer to the guy shooting the binder so he gets to start attacking sooner because he has to cover less distance.
      3. You can simply watch people doing it on other vids, looking at their positioning on the ground, the timing, and where they aim and do it that way. You don't need a guide with text explanations and freeze frames but it's not always super easy to learn.
      4. I don't know how to do it myself lmfao.
      Best of luck. Thanks for watching and for the comment!

    • @petercho546
      @petercho546  9 месяцев назад +2

      It takes some practice, and perhaps theres a mod that changes the colors.
      If you're just practicing helmbreakers, throw them out at any stack! For general play you should only ever do helmbreakers at max red stacks but if you're just practicing, throw them out even on white stacks!
      The stacks are not meant to last very long, but if you are struggling with uptime, you should also practice foresight slashes into roundslashes. Don't ever build stacks with the super long spirit combo attack. There are hardly any opportunities to do so.
      If you want to extend the duration of your stacks, you can get the skill "power prolonger" and that will help your stacks stay active longer.

    • @petercho546
      @petercho546  Год назад +1

      @@KiiroCraft997 So from the top.
      "He spends a lot of time on his rear legs." : in terms of helmbreakers, there's actually arguably more opportunities for helmbreakers than when he's on all 4's. When he's on all 4's though, it is easier to hit his head of course.
      "He moves in such a way that I don't hit the helmbreaker." : It takes a lot of practice, and I mean hundreds or thousands of attempts, to learn the positionings and timings and to be consistent at it. The only time his movements or animations are different is sometimes his animations are sped up or slowed down (depends on host, ping, framerate, weird stuff) or if he's against a wall of some sort that stops his movement, like if hes walking forward during an attack, if there's a wall in front of him, obviously he wont be moving forward anymore.
      "He moves unexpectedly at the last second." : Because most of his attacks are consistent animations, this should be false for most things. One exception is when he roars (like after being wallbanged) while on all 4's. Where his head ends up/moves at the end of the roar animation is rng as he will try to look toward whatever player he decides to target. However, if you mean he is snapping away because he is launching his next attack at some other player/palico, it simply means you are too slow/late with your helmbreaker. Being a quarter or half second early or late will result in big changes, such as missing.
      "He directly kills me in the air due to his poorly made hitboxes." : Actually in my opinion, the hitboxes are good and quite generous at times, its the attack's from your weapon(s) that can be a bit finnicky. But regarding you getting hit mid air, yeah I'd have to assume that's you throwing out helmbreakers when you're not supposed to. You can't just throw them out and hope they land. If an attack animation is shorter than the entirety of Spirit Helmbreaker (from input to downswing), it cannot be an opening. All the openings shown in this video are essentially 100% foolproof because they are all on attacks where you have enough time to completely finish the helmbreaker attack animation.
      "Fair Challenge Fatalis Quest and it feels rng." : I'm all for using whatever gives you the advantage while learning. Use that mod and any other mod to your content. But Fatalis is not any more rng than any other monster, he's just brutally (and perhaps unfairly) overpunishing. Now that I've essentially peaked at Fatalis with Longsword, I can confidently say only about 1/50 deaths is truly rng, and I usually die once every 2-5 runs.
      I have about 500 kills on Fatalis, but easily over 5k attempts. Add me on Discord if you wanna do some Fatty hunts! Or we can call/stream and I can give advice that way.

      I have tried to imitate the movements of other speedrunners to be able to break even 1 horn in the first phase, but the bug does totally different things sometimes. Or it moves from a starting position, when in videos it remains 90% still in your starting position.

      @@KiiroCraft997 I believe that is just practice that is necessary, and you might be missing some weapon mechanics as well but I don't know. Learning the attacks of Fatalis is the biggest part. Learning the helmbreakers is the second part.
      If you try for long enough, eventually you will get it. Don't be fooled. Those speedrunners have literally thousands of kills, 10's of thousands of attempts, to get their fastest runs.
      They make it seem like the head remains still in the starting position because they know the perfect position and angles and directions to be in, which they can do because they know the attack PERFECTLY. You will get headbreaks if you focus on the head. One hit on the head is worth 20 on the body. Keep practicing!. Add me on discord if you would like.

      Fatalis came out years after the game was released. So the players that had been playing before fatalis had more experience beforehand. Now, a new player can get to Fatalis before HR 40, when they've learned almost nothing about the game.
      The result is you get players who have no idea how to use their weapons, no idea how to fight monsters (positioning, timing, dodging, etc), and rely on stupidity like artillery and mantles.

      As far as builds go, while you are learning, I recommend people to drop all of their damage, all of it, and go full comfort skills. Health boost, Recovery up, Speed eating, Evade window, evade extender, free meal, quick sheath, etc, these will do much more for you while you are learning than any damage skill ever will. Dying even 1 time offsets all your damage you got from your skills.
      If you are able to solo fight him and run out the timer, good! That's a sign you can possibly start changing out some comfort skills for damage. I would still recommend a full comfort build while you are learning though.
      Regarding what damage skills, for longsword there are no unique skills or anything that synergize well with it, it's a basic weapon. What I mean is, for example, dual blades and bow more or less require some stamina skills as they are stamina dependent. Weapons like lance that can block should have Guard and Guard Up skills. Longsword doesn't have these kinds of things.
      Your main damage skills are going to be critical eye, critical boost, and weakness exploit. That's most of your damage right there and you can do just fine with those 3. If you want more, Agitator is a good bump in damage when the monster is enraged, peak performance with a health augment weapon is another small boost, Attack boost actually does basically nothing regarding the damage it gives you, so many people stop at Attack Boost level 4 for the 5% affinity. And let's not forget Divine Blessing. We all love Divine Blessing.
      Don't use defense boost btw.
      Handicraft is good to keep your weapon at atleast white sharpness. Purple and white sharpness are near identical in damage, but white to blue sharpness is a dramatic loss in damage.
      The Kushala and Gold Rathian armor have good comfort skills on them innately.
      Regarding decorations, you have 3 options:
      1. Farm the Greatest Jagras for level 1 and 2 decorations (look up on youtube how to do it).
      2. Farm Day of Ruin or Furious Rajang arenas for level 4 decorations (you will spend hundreds of hours doing this just to get your 1st, 2nd, 3rd Level 4 attack jewels.)
      3. Use mods that let you buy decorations.
      I'm against cheating 100%, but crapcom does not understand basic math and loot pools. I know people who have done Day of Ruin over 400 times and still haven't gotten their level 4 Attack Jewels.
      You can find online builds if you really want, and there's a very common basic endgame fatalis gear build that everyone uses, but ultimately your build will depend on what decorations you have and your skill level.
      If you still really want to see my builds, I can send you a screenshot or 2 through discord: zealousabsurd. Feel free to dm me!
