How right you were my man!! James Gunn did revert to the Christopher Reeves Superman Soundtrack! Do you know why? He's just can't help copying other people's ideas.
Without Man Of Steel I don't think I would even be a DC fan today let alone read New 52 Superman and get exposed to Scott Snyder's Batman run. I owe so much to it.
A lot of people say it was Dark Knight for them but MoS was that for me now I love the character of Superman and I'm ready to see the path forward hopefully it's good 🤞🔥
Hey bro, loved the points you brought up. In general I feel like Man of Steel brought a fresh and grounded take on Superman, exploring his internal struggles and the weight of his responsibilities in a realistic way something the people just were not ready for. Both the visual storytelling and Hans Zimmer’s score were nothing short of incredible. Definitely an underrated gem that deserves more love! And glad to know I am not the only one who listens to Hans Zimmer's score at the gym 😅
One of the l core reasons I love MoS was it's darker tone .I feel Superman especially, was gravely misunderstood. His arc required that his character and principles be tested so he could grow and become the classic idealised optimistic Superman we universally love and expect him to be. What might have been ,what a shame and a loss to us all.
I like that they depicted Superman as this nuanced character and someone who can be badass. I hope they don't make Superman too stiff or annoying and actually take his character seriously don't go too goofy with it and give him a satisfying arc. Much like they did with The Batman and Bruce.
I absolutely love Man of Steel its music its story the weight of the movie and heaviness ..Zod was the best Zod ...and i love the realy gritty feel and OMG kevin costner and Henry ...plus when Henry trying to fly amazing and the freken MUSIC ❤❤❤❤
Superman rejected by kids, stuck to himself, grew up a loner, had to fight against the country, are you freed or foe. that smile at the end, to me says acceptance. Would have loved to see Man of Steel 2
MOS is my all time favorite Superman movie. After watching the preview before the movie release, I knew it was going to be the best one. Everyone involved in the production did an incredible job. Zack, Henry, and Hans Zimmer, and the rest of the cast and crew, did amazing work.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I agree with just about every single thing you said. I made my own video on my channel a while ago addressing my few issues with the story, but I still love it overall, and I will die on the hill defending Superman's killing of Zod. Thanks for recognizing Snyder's skills as a visual director while crediting the story to David Goyer.
MOS blazed a trail for future action super hero films. My main gripe was the muted colors. Navy mustard & burgundy should’ve been royal canary & candy apple The ‘S’ on his chest always looked dirty bcuz of the muted colors Cavill is the most f’ed over actor of the last 10 years Amy Adams as a Ginger Lois worked for me. Costner was underused and his death was absurd. Zod was phenomenal. Another sill death. You’re only as good as your villain. Deleting Zod was a bad idea. The trilogy that Zod & Crew could’ve been a menace to Clark in…🤦🏾♂️WOW!
Deleting Zod was a bad idea ??? Zod had to die, they could only use the phantom zone device-ONCE-no prison on earth could hold Zod and he said he'd kill most of mankind as possible. This is why Zod had to go.
I literally watched it last night and still really enjoyed it. My only issue is that Clark doesn’t seem remorseful at all for the thousands of deaths or billions worth of city damages
I didn’t see Man of Steel in theaters for the first time until BVS is starting to release. The people around me that I knew personally told me that it was a terrible movie. So I think I rented it first and after sitting through the entire movie, I thought to myself why does no one like this movie? People really hated this movie so much? Then came the discussions in debate afterwards. Some people have good criticisms of the movie. Others are absolutely ridiculous. At the end of the day, I love Man of Steel. I still feel the same thrill I had when I first watched it during superman‘s first flight, for example. It may very well be a cult classic film. Most insane criticism is not just that Sups killed Zoe it’s Sups committed genocide. Wow, those that say that weren’t paying attention. I can understand having someone rain in Zack as a director but the disaster of the DCU wasn’t his fault.
Snyder, Nolan, Goyer and Zimmer created a masterpiece. Henry is the best superman. I love the cinematography, music, acting and the whole experience. But, I also down to watch the new Superman movie. I never read the comic books so, I want to see the comic accurate version from Gunn's perspective. As a movie enjoyer, my only concern is about the movie experience rather than comic book accuracy. So, people who read the comics and fell in love with that might have a different opinion. I respect that.
I mean his father's death scene was explained , Jonathan always tried to keep Clark away from the government or the public eye if he used his powers , actually Jonathan saved his son's life , and also his dad's leg was damaged he could not walk away and if Clark went there and then took him away from the tornado , people will ask questions and the government will get involved.
@@mickeyc.Pa Kent was consistent with his previous statements. I understand the issues with his death, but it's just a different creative choice. I wouldn't have done it that way, but I don't think it's stupid.
Mickey, you bring up a lot of valid points, and I thoroughly enjoyed your commentary on Man of Steel. I agree that Zack Snyder has a distinctive style, with his use of slow motion and muted colors, much like how J.J. Abrams is known for his lens flares and “mystery box” storytelling. What I think happened is that Warner Bros. was trying to play catch-up with Marvel and its cinematic universe, which was making massive box office waves. In their rush to establish their own shared universe, they made some critical creative missteps. Personally, I place the blame for Man of Steel’s lack of resonance squarely on WB rather than DC. I can’t fault Snyder entirely for the film’s narrative issues, as David S. Goyer wrote the script. While Goyer has done excellent work in the past, there was something about Man of Steel that felt like it was missing a vital spark, though I can’t quite pinpoint what that was. Again, I believe WB’s executive meddling and mishandling of the DCEU set the stage for these shortcomings. It didn’t help that Snyder faced a personal tragedy, which understandably took him away from shaping the universe that was supposed to follow his vision. That marked the beginning of the real unraveling. Man of Steel established a tone, but it was quickly derailed when WB decided to rush Batman into the mix, sidelining Superman and skipping over the opportunity for a proper Man of Steel 2. What we got instead was Batman v Superman, where Henry Cavill’s Superman felt pushed to the background. Cavill was a fantastic-looking Superman-almost too handsome to play Clark Kent, honestly (lol). But I genuinely believe that if we had gotten a true Man of Steel 2, he would have delivered an incredible portrayal of Clark Kent that could have elevated the character further. That said, I grew up during the Richard Donner and Christopher Reeve era of Superman, so I still have a soft spot for that version of the character. While I appreciate Man of Steel for what it was, I’m curious to see how James Gunn’s upcoming take on Superman will turn out, especially with his promise to bring back the uplifting vibrancy of the Donner films. I’ll keep an open mind-and let’s be real, the CGI Krypto will probably steal the show!
Great comment! I believe MOS was missing the colorful aspect and vulnerable and humorous personality of Reeve's Superman. I believe it's what made Reeves more likeable to audiences. Cavill appeared to be a more serious and calmer version of the man of steel. At least that's what I have surmised from observing both actors.
We should of gotten mos 2 and 3 not Batman vs Superman complete derailment and waste and Ben affleck is a terrible actor the worst in my book what could’ve been a great trilogy man of steel
MoS is by far the best superman film and im alredy including the new cause i now what it looks like, actually all DC snyder its ahead on time, very debpt, deep drama in a realistic and grounded world with powerfull visuals and full of epicness, now we gonna had a sort of marvel 2.0 wichs is in my opinion a step back in everything
Man Of Steel got me interested in Superman again. I still have arguments to this day about Jonathan Kent's death and why didn't Clark save him? Why did he kill Zod? There are people I follow that cover movies, that flip flop about reboots when it suits and contradict themselves. "It should look different for a reboot", to "it should look the same and not change anything from the originals". It's very tiring. What people miss, is the movie isn't really a "Superman" movie, as he only discovers he can be who earth needs in that moment. It's only at the end where it's the people that have given him that name, which he would adopt. I could talk all day about MOS and will defend it till I die.
Always enjoyed both Man of Steel and Batman vs Superman, in all honesty, although I began to prefer the latter after watching the Ultimate Edition. Glad we got the SnyderCut, btw.
Its a dam shame will never see Zacks Justice Leagues 2 and 3 thanks to WB studios getting involved entirely too much after Man of Steel cause at that time they were trying to keep up with Marvel studio success back when they were doing very good cause they really peak with there movies until now
Unfortunately James Gunns suoerman them is just a slowed down reeves theme. I can respect your opinions on snyder I just wished he could finish what he started with his dc universe
My first time on this channel 😏 I'll tell you what! Damn i love the way you say it all out straight up leaving nothing behind, no bull shit, no filters 👌
I'm a HUGE fan of this movie. I think that this movie has an awesome plot, casting, acting, music and cinematography. It's probably m favorite superhero movie.
Interesting to hear how someone perceived the film who grew up with it. For me it feels like yesterday, since I was 31 when I saw it. I have loved it right from the start and agree with just about everything you had to say. I don't understand why people are so ready to hate this movie. It was mind blowing at the time, and so many films have stolen action beats and ideas from it, including Marvel (literal shot for shot lifts in Wandavision when the two Visions fight). So obviously it was doing something right. Even Balck Adam tried to bring some of that teleporting hand to hand combat stuff that Faora was doing in the Smallville fight. I truly wish Snyder had just let Superman have one moment/movie in the sun before dragging him into Batman's shadowy muck. We needed to see Henry Cavill flying high, bathed in the sun and saving the people of Metropolis in a more personal way. Then I think the rest would have played a lot better.
Ahead of its time tbh. I don’t find the new Gunn verse appealing. This movie was amazing and made me feel hope.. his Superman was inspiring and had just a will
Man of Steel felt like a twilight zone episode, it had the same drama and philosophy of a twilight zone episode. The creepy past of Krypton landing on earth thousands of years ago, the aliens standing and watching earth as they want to take over the world. Henry Cavil looks like 1960s gentlemen and the whole thing felt grounded in the modern world and Superman was relatable because he wasn't perfect, he was in over his head which realistically if someone actually was in that situation with those powers they would struggle to effectively use them skillfully.
This is the best Superman movie, in my opinion. Most humanized versions of both Clark and Superman. Funny how the biggest complaint is "all the damage from the fight scenes." lol what do they expect when literal Titans engage in battle......people are stupid.
haters REFUSE to admit how much they missed. i never was a hater but i missed SOOO much in mos/bvs the first 3-4 times. youtubers that catch depth faster than me i learned how to properly view great film like bvs and MOS
All 3 Snyder DC films are underrated. BvS director’s cut is the true version of the movie imo, and Snyder’s cut of Justice League is far superior to Whedon’s. Really wish he got to finish his vision without all the studio interference.
bvs ue is pretty decent but its one of those cases where I prefer 1 and 3 a bit more not 2 which is so weird because it's usually the first two I like more
@@mickeyc. Definitely not. It was a shit show and kind of made out of spite by Warner brothers to combat the mcu, they had no clue what to do and created an inaccurate mess that punched dc fans in the face with disappointment after disappointment. This time they will hopefully get it right with gunn
Great movie, so dynamic across the board, musically, cinematography, emotional, mental and physical themes. Covers the whole spectrum. Even when u watch the trailer back it’s superb. Man of steel 2 would have been iconic. You’re 1000% correct.
Let me put it this way: ‘Man of Steel’ is the reincarnation of ‘Bladerunner’. I’m convinced of it. Heck I bought the 3D version of this movie in steelbook. That’s how much I LOVED this movie.
I don't know if it was ahead of its time, since Nolan wanted to give Superman his Dark Knight treatment, but I also believe that MoS was horribly underrated. It's one of my favorite CBMs. Agree with the Rebel Moon mess. Unhinged Snyder is a problem for Snyder. But I rather liked Army of the Dead.
Finally saw someone appreciating how good MoS was as a superhero origin movie. The father’s death scene wasn’t completely useless. Sure, it might not have seemed necessary at first, but when you watch BvS, it makes sense. Jonathan Kent died because he didn’t want his son to save him. He believed the world wasn’t ready to witness his powers or see a man who could be the strongest on the planet. In BvS, Superman’s existence was questioned, many saw him as a threat to society, just as Jonathan feared might happen.
I think Man of steel really shines in that it explores concepts (perhaps accidentally) that you just didnt get in superhero movies. Superman purests understandably dont love the movie, as it is actually far to human. I always thought Zod was an interesting character, and his motivations made sense, as did his actions, and once you remove some of the more comically evil scenes that are obviously just a way to let you know he is definately irredeemably evil the movie plays more as a struggle between a ruthless Nietzschean ideal and a more compassionate Christian ideal. Perhaps it wasnt intended but I always though superman killing Zod at the end (rather than some contrived death that superman wasnt resposible for, or just locking him in some magical prison) wasn't just hard for superman because he doesnt like killing, but because he is basically ending Krypton altogether for the sake of humanity. Also the superheros never killing is such a retarded concept, it's just as stupid as its inverse, the every superhero is corrupt concept. Having to devise these obviously contrived circumstances so that the villian dies without the hero having any blood on their hands is actually lame, and means the hero never actually has to make any hard choices. I remember watching the new Batman, where batman lets the penguin go because he cant kill him, then the penguine ends up killing dozens of people in the ensuing chase, blowing up petrol tankers etc, and just turning the movie off because it was so stupid.
I think this man of steel movie is 1000 on 1000 it's a very suspenseful movie lots of action great screen play fantastic characters great story telling the experience Superman has with humans his compassion his abilities it's a all around movie s/o Zack Snyder 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾 I'd put this movie up against avatar anyday and the director was great love the fight scenes the flying scenes hands down still number 1 in 2 is snyers justice league both Aquaman 1 n 2 .
Man of Steel made me hit the weights harder at the gym when the first trailer came out. I definitely like Zach Synder's take on this iconic character and was very pleased with the movie.😊
Either you're late to review this Masterpiece or Either you were too late to watch this Masterpiece or you were only a Marvel Kid now became A Man who watched this Masterpiece or Welcome to DC Universe
I always thought that Jonathan Kent would want Superman with his mother to make sure she’s protected. That’s why he went back for the dog. He says stay with your mother. As far as saving him, people would’ve seen it he was standing right in front of them and his dad made a choice
@ yes. If I want a weak pathetic diaperman that needs a dog to save him I know where to go. I respect real men real supermen gunns trash isn't one of them
Man of a steel was made with the mindset of making a movie instead a comic book movie. It was in line with the likes of Constantine, Dark Knight trilogy, and Thomas Jane's Punisher. A nice balance between a movie and a comic book movie would be Del Toro's Hellboy and Blade 2.
Love Snyder as a director. He makes beautiful pictures. Wish he would of made his revolutionary war film. Imagine his hyper realistic approach and colonial America. The brick buildings. Cobblestone streets. Battlefields. All filmed by Snyder...
I too am one of those who thinks he’s pretty good when some one else writes the script and he’s not to free reign. I think he’s a perfect director for a Thor movie, and would had an amazing rendition of Gorr on screen
Firstly, I love your take on this film. I just recently rewatched the SM1&2 and i can see better the inspiration MoS took from the Donner films making it imo “almost” a masterpiece, however it was the 3rd act that didn’t stick the landing for me. The absolute disaster porn in the end took me out of the film, Hindsight being 20/20 of course knowing now that the Martian the Man Hunter, was in the film the whole time and didn’t assist during a world ending level threat *at least to my desire*, is a huge opportunity there for me. Understandably it’s not a justice league movie, however with that much destruction w/o other meta humans coming out to assist is imo a flaw in the script. I hoped for the first film you tone down the level of threat, not to a Superman Returns level , but to an attainable victory w/o so many people dying in a world “Superhero’s “ exist.
Am glad to here someone actually liked the movie. This movie helped me come through a hard place in my life. I'll forever cherish it in my heart.

A lot of people say it was Dark Knight for them but MoS was that for me now I love the character of Superman and I'm ready to see the path forward hopefully it's good 🤞🔥
Man of Steel made me a Superman lover!
@@mickeyc. REAL!!
MOS is first time we see accurate live action representation of what super powered Kryptonians would look like in a fight.
@@puichiung2959 Exactly. Part of why I love it so much.
Best Superman movie ever made
One of the l core reasons I love MoS was it's darker tone .I feel Superman especially, was gravely misunderstood.
I loved man of steel❤
Superman rejected by kids, stuck to himself, grew up a loner, had to fight against the country, are you freed or foe. that smile at the end, to me says acceptance. Would have loved to see Man of Steel 2
Epic in every way!
Hands down MoS is my favorite comic book film of all time. Snyder/cavill did something epic and highly underrated
MOS blazed a trail for future action super hero films.
My main gripe was the muted colors. Navy mustard & burgundy should’ve been royal canary & candy apple
The ‘S’ on his chest always looked dirty bcuz of the muted colors
Cavill is the most f’ed over actor of the last 10 years
Amy Adams as a Ginger Lois worked for me.
Costner was underused and his death was absurd.
Zod was phenomenal. Another sill death. You’re only as good as your villain. Deleting Zod was a bad idea. The trilogy that Zod & Crew could’ve been a menace to Clark in…🤦🏾♂️WOW!
Costners deathe was poetic and powerful loved it so well done. All his scenes with young clark are emotional and iconic
Deleting Zod was a bad idea ??? Zod had to die, they could only use the phantom zone device-ONCE-no prison on earth could hold Zod and he said he'd kill most of mankind as possible. This is why Zod had to go.
I can't believe that somewhat out here actually did this movie some justice. It's still my favorite super hero movie. Totally Epic!
I literally watched it last night and still really enjoyed it. My only issue is that Clark doesn’t seem remorseful at all for the thousands of deaths or billions worth of city damages
Absolutely right. Man of Steel dropping in 2024 would be loved!
Dude, I like Cavill. In Witcher, as Superman.. So sorry for him
Agreed, my brother and I love this film. We quote so many lines from it. I have it on Bluray
My personal favorite superhero movie of all time
I didn’t see Man of Steel in theaters for the first time until BVS is starting to release.
Man of steel is fire and STILL holds up today🤷🏽♂️
If you're a bro than I'm a super bro, i love MOS and the fact it left the legacy it has its really telling to its impact.
Agree, Cavill is awesome.... the film is awesome as well. The new one looks like a kids film.
10000% trueee. Man of Stell 💪💪💪
Obviously I know that, but it's still dumb. It's contrived.
Even though I loved this movie and kind of understand the reason for this scene, I'd have to agree it's contrived.
@@mickeyc.Pa Kent was consistent with his previous statements. I understand the issues with his death, but it's just a different creative choice. I wouldn't have done it that way, but I don't think it's stupid.
First version of Superman that had me excited. Great movie
I loved man of steel ❤️ 😍 ♥️
My first time on this channel 😏
I'll tell you what! Damn i love the way you say it all out straight up leaving nothing behind, no bull shit, no filters 👌
Ever since MOS was released.. that's when i enjoyed dc films the most
I'm a HUGE fan of this movie.
Michael shannon was so good in this movie
_Zack Snyder participated as a writer for wonder, woman and he called directed that film_
This is the best Superman movie, in my opinion. Most humanized versions of both Clark and Superman. Funny how the biggest complaint is "all the damage from the fight scenes." lol what do they expect when literal Titans engage in battle......people are stupid.
Best Superman movie IDC!!!
haters REFUSE to admit how much they missed. i never was a hater but i missed SOOO much in mos/bvs the first 3-4 times. youtubers that catch depth faster than me i learned how to properly view great film like bvs and MOS
Only recently people are starting to realize how great man of steel was . It was ahead of its time
You a real one for this one ✊✊
Best superman movie
One of the best Superman movies ever
And now people will tear you apart and call you a “Snyderbot” or not a “true DC fan” because you like this movie….it’s crazy
All 3 Snyder DC films are underrated. BvS director’s cut is the true version of the movie imo, and Snyder’s cut of Justice League is far superior to Whedon’s. Really wish he got to finish his vision without all the studio interference.
bvs ue is pretty decent but its one of those cases where I prefer 1 and 3 a bit more not 2 which is so weird because it's usually the first two I like more
It's entirely possible DC would be more successful now than Marvel if ZS's plans happened. Not saying that's a certainty, but it could have been
I WILL FIND HIM!
Man of Steel was excellent
Finally saw someone appreciating how good MoS was as a superhero origin movie. The father’s death scene wasn’t completely useless. Sure, it might not have seemed necessary at first, but when you watch BvS, it makes sense.
Jonathan Kent died because he didn’t want his son to save him. He believed the world wasn’t ready to witness his powers or see a man who could be the strongest on the planet. In BvS, Superman’s existence was questioned, many saw him as a threat to society, just as Jonathan feared might happen.
Great review
I've loved this movie since the first time I saw it in theaters. The action scene where Superman fights Faora and Nam in Smallville is awesome.
The best modern superman movie and well said 👍
The fact that the homosexual rituals aren’t a secret anymore 😅🤓 6:50
I was thinking the same thing. Crazy.
Either you're late to review this Masterpiece or
Either you were too late to watch this Masterpiece or
you were only a Marvel Kid now became A Man who watched this Masterpiece or
Welcome to DC Universe
I don’t understand how you can say ZS gave you multiple peak moments in a film but then say he’s a hack 😂 that doesn’t make sense at all
I always thought that Jonathan Kent would want Superman with his mother to make sure she’s protected. That’s why he went back for the dog. He says stay with your mother. As far as saving him, people would’ve seen it he was standing right in front of them and his dad made a choice
Man of Steel was a fantastic movie. The people who hate on it are utter idiots and will probably love James Gunn’s movie coming out.
I agree loved this movie !!! The music is epic I also here it while working out
The only superman that matters
Nope
@ yes. If I want a weak pathetic diaperman that needs a dog to save him I know where to go. I respect real men real supermen gunns trash isn't one of them
I’ll be watching this film all day the day Gunn’s Superman comes out 😌 save some money and order a pizza from home
Nice background. Simple and film centric
I loved the cinematic music in other dceu movies too, but what annoys me is , nowadays superhero movies just plays rock music during the fight scenes
Probably your best take of all time and I haven't even watch the video yet
I commented already...but I need to say this movie is jus epic,amazing,brilliant..
I jus love this movie
Love Snyder as a director. He makes beautiful pictures. Wish he would of made his revolutionary war film. Imagine his hyper realistic approach and colonial America. The brick buildings. Cobblestone streets. Battlefields. All filmed by Snyder...
Ironically, I agree with you. He makes beautiful scenes. He's a cinematographer. Not a director.
I sometimes imagine Mickey dressed as Superman. Or robin.
Do 'Superman Returns'😊
Man of Steel is hands down my favorite iteration of Superman
thank you for this video
I too am one of those who thinks he’s pretty good when some one else writes the script and he’s not to free reign. I think he’s a perfect director for a Thor movie, and would had an amazing rendition of Gorr on screen
I loved it and you are correct: grossly underrated!!
Firstly, I love your take on this film.
I just recently rewatched the SM1&2 and i can see better the inspiration MoS took from the Donner films making it imo “almost” a masterpiece, however it was the 3rd act that didn’t stick the landing for me. The absolute disaster porn in the end took me out of the film,
Hindsight being 20/20 of course knowing now that the Martian the Man Hunter, was in the film the whole time and didn’t assist during a world ending level threat *at least to my desire*, is a huge opportunity there for me.
