This full teaser confirmed my suspicions about James Gunn's approach. Before I get to that, let me talk about the suit. In the on-set pictures, it looked awful, with it looking rubbery and prone to folding in all the wrong places. The suit looked a lot like Gunn's version of the Guardians of the Galaxy suit (the Guardians' suits were nothing like that in the comics), but with a cape. Gunn supporters were convinced that it would come together, but now that we have seen more, it is clear that it is not happening. First, the suit doesn't fit well. Look at the scenes in the snow where the collar is all bunched up, creating a gap at his neck. But the second thing is, I realize that the real purpose of it was to make David Cornsweat appear larger than he actually is. Now let's get to the rest. James Gunn's approach is to pander heavily. It is a very calculated move on his part. Firstly, he is heavily leaning on the John Williams score and that is to appeal to that audience that really only knows Superman from the Donner films and not from the comic books. Second, the fonts in the teaser are very similar to those in the Christopher Reeve movies. Definitely more pandering there. Third, noticed how Gunn's Clark Kent seems a bit bumbling in these shots. It's like Reeve's portrayal, which raise some eyebrows. If this is where he's going, it just reinforces the idea that he's brown-nosing those who are not knowlegable of the comics. Clark Kent wasn't a bumbling fool at the Daily Planet, in the comics. The Donner movies made up the bumbling Clark Kent. In the comic books, Clark is a regular person doing his job. Remember, back in the day he was called "the mild-mannered reporter." Zack Snyder's version of Clark Kent was the first live action theatrical movie that matched the comics of that Clark Kent exactly. Even Christopher Reeve didn't like playing Clark that way and expressed his frustration about it over time. He's even on video saying this. If Gunn decides to go this route, it seems like he's catering to a specific crowd that doesn't know the comic book roots. This feels like a bit of a cop-out for someone whose fans keep claiming he's supposedly a talented filmmaker. Gunn's pandering shows that he's trying to make up for his lack of filmmaking talent. And don't be surprised if Gunn goes even lower and includes some subtle digs at Zack Snyder for even more pandering. Gunn does nothing but shift away from the serious tone of the original comics and make everything into a jokefest, which is what his old boss Kevin Feige was and still is pushing for at the MCU. The new Superman movie is aimed at people who've never opened a comic book and only know him through the Donner version, or only know superhero movies from growing up watching the MCU stuff. This group has been misled to think that superhero movies should be $200 million hipster comedies that make fun of superheroes rather than honoring their legacy.
Wait. You're right. That's where I've seen this weird military uniform suit style before. Starlord wears the same suit in the comics (blue with red). I knew this looked familiar. Also the fit is all over the place. Look at the scene where he's holding Lois and floating up there's a still of it out there somewhere...his leggings are rumpled as if the pants don't fit. Also the shorts aren't tight...they're just weird almost skirt like loose shorts. So weird.
So it looks like James Gunn's strategy is to basically pander heavily and make this movie Justice League straight out of the gate. Which is not surprising since the only successful superhero movies in recent years have been team up movies, so this approach was to be expected.
Hope you doing good bro. Based on the trailer, the story seems regressive. Instead of seeing superman become something more than the "man of steel", or the "farm boy" we spent decades learning about. They just went all the way back to the beginning. To tell the exact same story we have seen in movies, comics and all these various animated adaptations. Alien grows up on farm, alien kisses reporter, alien becomes superhero. Lex Luthor hates alien. We already know all of this, seen all of this, experienced all of this. Just the exact same story with a different aesthetic. It's like the character never grows or evolves. Stagnancy. At least that's my perception.
Please don't delete your channel, I really like hearing what you have to say! Especially the whole "Mickey C at Mickey D's" thing, at least it's something different than the average pop culture review channel
omgs, that preview SUCKED. was that torturing cats used for music? 30+ characters? Luthor manipulates form the sidelines while aliens invaDE earht - that was the last superman movie storyline. The actor playing "superman" walk around like he has shit in his pants.
For me, the most brilliant move of the trailer is starting, right out of the gate, with him vulnerable, bleeding, and crippled by something. Whenever I think of a Superman movie it's hard to get excited because he's so powerful and indestructible. The stakes don't matter because you know he's going to win. But telling us there's a chance he won't win was very smart. Your analysis of what the trailer needed to accomplish at the top of this video once again confirms your superior instincts toward both story telling and audience appeal. Most people I know working in the movie business have neither. Some have one of the two. Very few have both. The second I'm hired to run a studio, you're getting a call to join my creative team, hell, to run my creative team because you're also a leader. Now, as exciting as that sounds, I must tell you the chances of me being even a blip on the radar of some CEO making such a decision...well, they're not great. But my country just elected Trump for a second go at President, confirming just how possible it is for crazy shit to happen. So stand by.
I just have one thing to say. Can we please... PLEASE stop with the slowed down "nostalgic" theme music in movie trailers that are the umpteenth installment in a long running legacy IP? When I hear familiar movie theme music played in a sad slow tempo it's not making me nostalgic, it's making me cringe straight through the bottom of my chair at how manipulative these trailers are trying to be...
Snyder people will be in their damn 60s still whining about Henry Cavill. There’s no helping them, and their foolishness won’t stop the general public from seeing this and making it a smash hit. We are moving forward, they are welcome to stay on the side of the road screaming at clouds.
Well, I'm excited. No signs of the origin story. Although the Martha and Jonathan Kent story...we could probably do without. I recognize Gunn may use it as a turning point, Johnathan dies and it teaches Superman a lesson or something. Ok, sure. Krypto...I don't know. It's not a "dog" as it's a pet from Krypton. So, it has the same abilities as Superman. It's supposed to be able to fly so I don't really understand the weird trail of snow/dust from the dog super running to Superman's side but whatever. Maybe a CGI dog flying around looked too ridiculous. And frankly, a super speed running dog did too which is why it's occluded by snow/dust or whatever. We will have to wait and see if we get more.
THANK YOU!! I have watched so many reactions to this trailer that said this movie looks garbage, that it looks silly, that its a bad superman movie look, but that makes zero sense to me. THIS IS SUPERMAN!! He is hopeful, a lil silly, but has hope and optimism and believes in a better future. I dont get these people who say it looks awful, it just feels like they are fake superman fans that dont actually like the superman character, but like zack snyders superman and are upset he is gone. He did a great job with what he had control with, but not everything needs to be dark and serious and realistic, sometimes you need a hopeful and optimistic hero to fight the darkness in this world. Thats just my opinion but this movie looks incredible!! Btw love McDonalds too so no shame 😂😂😂
All they really need to do with this movie is not insert modern political messaging every other scene and it should be alright. Hopefully they make Louis more likeable and don't pretend her job as a journalist is actually super important. Also if James gun turns it into a joke a minute like Guardians it will probably be rubbish. I can already see him doing it with super dog, breaking the tension far too early with some barely worth it gag.
Have to kinda disagree with you on this one. Superman, Lois and Lex look fine. Why they have all these other characters jammed into whats supposed to be the first movie in this rebooted universe is beyond me. This feels like its the 3rd or 4th entry of this new universe not the 1st movie 🤦🏿♂️ Should have just been a year one story.
I can't say I'm super (heh) interested in this, although the music does hit right. I've realized recently that a lot of movie scores don't feel the same as they used to, at least to me anyway. I know it's hard to compete with some of the composers who've come before, but there's an emotional quality missing now. Like as much as I've gotten burnt on on Star Wars, that opening blast of trumpets and horns still gets to me.
I don't vibe with the Gunn sense of humor but this looks good. I'm more worried about it being bloated with 3-4 different storylines instead of the Superman storyline and the Lois&Clark storyline. The actor looks great though, anyone who refuses to acknowledge that is delusional.
After a certain age, seeing a grown-ass man wearing capes and running around becomes childish and hilarious. How many reboots of the same characters do we have to see until enough is enough
@alejandromolinac I like superhero movies and even I agree with the OP here. Nothing really matters anymore because every movie has to have a formula and a pattern to it now, it's boring. The last one I really liked was "Logan" and that was awhile ago.

As much as I’ll miss Henry Im absolutely loving what Im seeing from David’s performance. It looks so much better than I imagined. 2024 has been a relatively rough year for me so Im really hoping this film can restore some of that back for me and for everyone else who are feeling like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. Also the Williams theme never fails to give me goosebumps 🔥
🤦🏽♂️ ffs wtf was that cringe? Laughably horrible cgi, the trademark 360 spin around fights which hopes you won’t notice the bad choreography, the bad color scheme, a weak Superman that got the Yancha treatment, the horrendous cgi shaggy krypto. The Hawk Tuah flight cgi was atrocious. Oh and that Superman suit was NOT fixed in post like the shills were swearing. Noticed the world is ending and Superman is not only slowly putting on his boots like that first reveal, but he’s actually chilling with Lois. Wtf The only good part was saving the girl. Lotsssssssssss of slomos here but now it’s a good thing🤣
I just saw the teaser a few minutes ago, it looks so good I’m looking forward to seeing Superman (2025) in the theaters I have a feeling this will be a great movie, if it turns out to be genuinely great I hope it will be successful in the box office, I sense hope, determination, and optimism from this film, Synder’s Superman was the exact opposite just dark and gritty, kinda dull too that’s not how Superman is, and the haters need to be quiet, hating just to hate like stop that (especially the Synder fanboys) give some things a fair chance, Henry Cavill is not coming back please move on already he’s not the first actor to play this character and won’t be the last either so give the new guy a chance I think he’ll be good, i believe in James Gunn too he’s a visionary, can’t wait to see the official trailer in the next few months 😊
Gunn can do what Snyder can't. Gunn can do funny goofiness (GotG!). Snyder can only do dark goofiness (Watchmen, 300, BvS, etc, ad nauseum). Superman has a long, goofy history, but has never been a dark character. If anyone can get back to Superman 1978 and move the bar forward, in a way that rings true to the legacy, it's Gunn.
It's obvious you never read the comic books. You're just repeating what you've seen others say online. You actually wanting a movie to go back to the Donner movie gives it away. What Gunn is doing, and it's clear from this trailer, is to pander heavily to people like you who don't know comic book Superman. Gunn also does that to make up for his lack of filmmaking talent since you will fall for it without questioning it at all. You treat the Donner Superman as if it's the source material for Superman when it's not. That was a fairy tale version of Superman. It's not comic book Superman. Zack Snyder's Superman movies weren't "darker" they simply took themselves seriously which is how the comic books are. You don't know that because you don't read the comic books.
I watch a lot of your videos and I agree with a lot of the things you say, but not this one. And I am not a James Gunn hater or a Superman hater. I just feel that this looks really childish, especially that part with the freaking Godzilla monster I think right there is when I was like NAH I’ll pass. No, it doesn’t look horrible. It just doesn’t look like it’s made for me. I’m 40 years old. This looks like I would’ve loved it when I was 12. Now I liked Man of Steel and I felt that was a great foundation to build off but unfortunately, everything that followed after it got worse. BvS is still to this day one of the worst movies I have ever watched because of some of the horrible decisions they made. Lex Luther alone was enough for Zack to be banned from DC projects. This looks more in line with a fun Saturday morning cartoon. And I can’t blame them for taking this direction. They’re going to sell lots of merchandise.
FYI: reacting in my car so I don't wake anyone in my house. It's 1am.

Superman vs The FF4.
