This movie is based after cobra kai and in the same universe as cobra kai is actually set in 2019-2021. The writers of cobra kai have nothing to do with this movie but and probably won't be mentioned much at all. Only thing really holding this together cannon wise is Ralph who I believed was probably forced into this movie. We definitely know johnny will not appear as zabka said he is done with the character and happy where season 6 has left him for now.
I love the part where Daniel asks Mr. Han, "What is your student? Some kind of karate kid?" and he replies saying, "Indeed, that makes us legends" ending with them jumping and giving each other a high-five. Truly one of the scenes of all time. Part of me wouldn't be terribly surprised if this movie turns out to be the 'Morbius' of 2025 in terms of quality for being both from Sony and also a film that many of us thought didn't need to happen.

Johnny got a successful 6 season series where he earned his respect as a sensei, appreciation from most of his students, a new love interest, a good protege, a renewed relationship with his son, and a newborn daughter. Assuming this takes place after Season 6, I wouldn't be surprised if Johnny's like, "You got this, Larusso. I'm sitting this one out." I will however be disappointed here if it turns out that Daniel got a divorce between this movie and the end of Cobra Kai and now is estranged to his actual kids, hence why he's becoming a father figure to this kid that Jackie Chan dropped for him.
