@KJ Beast I like Man of steel theme because it gives character centeric human feel to it... and John Williams score is a march and it kinda gives a soldier vibe to it... Zimmer's theme is good to listen to but William's theme is more iconic... I think neither is better than the other but zimmer's soundtrack fits sups for this generation...

Patiently waiting for the Man of Steel Snyder cut featuring an entire additional post-credit movie where we see Faora and Christopher Meloni in the phantom zone, engaging in an passionate relationship involving a lot of heated arguments and some Incredibly graphic sex scenes Until after an inevitable fallout they learn to accept each other despite all of their flaws and end up moving to the suburbs.
I'd settle for just sex scenes with Faora tbh.
They did have a kind of "warrior thing" going .... lol She was a very underrated character..
This would have changed the entire DCEU

Michael Shannon’s performance as General Zod is severely underrated. Not only is he a fearsome badass, but you actually UNDERSTAND his motives and objectives. Also, the absolute certainty of his character is a good foil for the internal confusion of Clark Kent.

One thing I really liked in man of steel is how they depicted clark's strength. He's not like a hulk or thor where he's physically exerting himself, it's more like the things he's lifting and the stuff he being hit by aren't even there.
This. Zodd could've hurled him through a kindgergarden full of kids and Superman would not even notice it. And then Superman would just hurl Zodd through 10 buildings full of people, that's how strong he is. I love Superman.
Thor and Hulk should be depicted the same but unfortunately Marvel still doesn't understand how to make powerhouses look strong

I think the fact that superman had problems breathing as a baby kinda explains the "illogical" overprotective nature of his parents. I mean he doesn't know it until he gets on the spaceship in space but they know that he isn't "invulnerable"
Well Clark's parents in all the lore have always been over protective, but they weren't sociopathic cowards that are okay and willing to sacrifice other children's lives just to protect his identity. In fact they encourage him to help whoever he can however he can. And they still worry over him and tell him to protect himself.
The easiest step of any Superman story is to portray his earth-parents as simple likable loving people who teach him good morals. But Man Of Steel decided to make Pa Kent seem like an morally insane person who constantly keeps telling Clark how he's basically destined to be a god among ants, to always keep his powers secret even if it means letting people die, and then Pa Kent gets himself killed in the dumbest way possible for no reason. Somehow, Man Of Steel found a way to make everyone hate Pa Kent. It's amazing.
Quick question: Why do the Kryptonians want to change Earth's atmosphere when the current one gives them superpowers? They could be flying around all day long and have laser eyes, this is madness.
They don't want to change the atmosphere they wanted to wipeout humanity and build a new civilization and what are you talking about ? Earth atmosphere doesn't give them superpowers they already have superpowers
Technically changing the atmosphere won't depower them because they get their powers from the sun but it will make earth more livable to their standards. Remember every time one gets their helmets smashed they go through extreme discomfort.

I think people give it a pass just for the brand recognition. I haven't seen it again since seeing it in the cinema back in 2013 or whenever.
I’m similar in that I think it has a lot of issues, some of which are critical, but I cut it some slack for trying something.
IDK... To me everything important about it in terms of filmmaking - pace, themes, characterisation, editing, camerawork, visuals in general - are all things I profoundly dislike about it. Maybe if the action didn't feel like one were falling down the Niagra Falls in a barrel with a single window in it I could forgive it, but that's just how I feel.

This movie isn't all bad. It just doesn't coalesce into a good movie as a whole. (And also, I think they're keeping in mind how much worse the other movies are)

I think it was a good movie, there a some things to critic but overall i love it.
I think the ending with the neck snapning was extremely powerful to watch, even thought it gets bashed because of the killing of zod.

Nobody brings up that Superman snaps Zod's neck in a way that makes his heat vision move towards the family. Do it the other way, Superman! Oh god, the family got cut in half!
Or just tilt his head up or down, or just fly away with him, or just cover his eyes with your impervious hands, or just pull a Dark Knight Returns and break his neck half way, thus leaving him alive but also paralyzing him. And who knows, he might end up finishing the job by breaking his own neck just to spite you.

Also, how the heck would he know how to snap his neck halfway? He's not Batman. He's just a dude who's never fought a day in his life before that day. And we see that they aren't impervious to heat vision in the Smallville fight. It hurts their eyes, and I'm pretty sure one of tries to cover the others eyes and gets crispy hands for their trouble.

Batman did kill Joker in the Dark Knight Returns, he didn't half snap his neck, it was Batman's way of copping with what he has just done, you can read all the theories on it but it's pretty much confirmed via the text bubbles in the comic. How easy do you think it would be to tilt someone's head that is actively fighting against you, then to snap their neck. And what is he going to do if he flies away with him?

One thing that I really like about the film was the scale. Snyder isn’t one of my favorites but the guy has a talent for making scenes look and feel larger than life. Even if it did come at the expense of a well written script, he has an eye for the art nonetheless.
See that's one of my problems with this movie. I don't find it visually interesting at all, especially for a Snyder film. I think about some of the iconic visuals in Watchman and 300 and Man of Steel doesn't have any shots in it as memorable as those movies. The colors are flat and the action is uninspired. It lacks Snyder's strengths and puts his weakness as a storyteller at the forefront.
Bullshit. Snyder loves his close ups. Never did i feel like something was "large in scale" while watching the movie.

Honestly I think the highway tornado scene would work really well if Clark actually save Pa Kent but then when they get home Pa Kent dies of a heart attack (like in every other version) to directly show the contrast of Clark discovering the limitations of his powers
I remember seeing this movie in 2013 and just being completely blown away. At the time, the action scenes made it my favorite movie of that year. Something I just noticed is that with Justice League, the mustache was a problem with Superman. But if you look at the earlier days of adult Superman in this movie, he has a mustache and beard.

@Charles Bruh Superman stands out for how little agency he has in the span of two movies. Batman is kind of better until it's revealed as a mean for Snyder's hyperviolence fetish. Also plotlines don't go well together and some of them lead nowhere. Not as bad as SS but still
His first flight is something I can watch over and over again, it's just a thing of beauty and joy
Also, Hans Zimmer KILLS it with that scene, and the whole movie for that matter.
I always watch the fan edit that brightens the colors and adds the John William's theme, it's perfection.
When Martain Manhunter shapechanges, he can change down to the atomic level. On top of that he can scramble your thoughts/perceptions without trying. If he didn't want Supes to know he wasn't a regular dude, he would never know.
It wasn't a bad film, I genuinely liked the script for the story. Justice League on the other hand.

@@PacMonster0 Disagree with your analysis. You say the story is just not Superman but the thing is MoS is Superman's beginning, he hasn't yet become the Superman that is so well known. From feeling like an outsider all the way to killing Zod those events that he went through are what would eventually forge him into becoming Superman and I'm glad the film makers paid attention to such details because honestly I wouldn't expect him to be the Big , Blue boy scout right from the get go nor would it have made much sense (to me anyway).

I've seen this film multiple times but I don't remember a note of the music. The Christopher Reeve version though, I can hum that all the way through off by heart.
Another really awesome bit of trivia is that when Supes is flying up into the beam, he turns into Christopher Reeve for a second. Truly badass.

6:30 is actually a REALLY good point. The structure of the flashbacks and posing questions the film has already answered is one of Man of Steel’s biggest issues.

The order of the flashbacks are Lois retracing Clark’s steps as he wandered about saving people is why it’s older to younger as she gets closer to small vile
I caught the movie on TV last night like 45 minutes in (basically starting on Clark in the Diner getting sh*t from the trucker) and it went from a movie I genuinely couldn't sit through past the Russel Crowe Krypton stuff to a movie I genuinely loved. It actually annoyed me that they have all that crap at the start to basically cover it all in a much cooler, much more succinct 2 minute flashback later in the movie.

The Justice League Unlimited animated series does a great fight against doomsday where superman explains he’s always holding back his full power to avoid collateral damage and then shows his full power by kicking doomsday’s arse.
Michael Shannon is legendary in this.

I feel so vindicated by this commentary. I have long said that this movie's greatest sin is the absolute crap portrayal of Pa Kent, and I rarely hear others make this criticism. Bang on!

There’s two other things that stood out to me as well in this movie: the soundtrack, love it!
And there was way too much shaky cam. Even in the emotional scenes, it was very distracting to me.
That ‘shaky cam’ is done in post, using (probably) After Effects, so it’s not just the fact it’s shaky, it’s the artificial nature of it that grates, I think. They can put as many ‘randomisers’ on the effect as they like, but it still comes across as unnatural to the human eye, compared to just an actual camera that’s shaking, plus obviously the fact that they use it on everything now, in every fucking scene. Drives me nuts.
Man I love this movie, I know it's not perfect, but I enjoyed it a lot
Christopher Maloni and Faora DEFINITELY have romantic chemistry. I think they were the only people to survive the crash. After realizing she was stuck, Faora contemplated killing Christopher Maloni, but then decides not to because it was pointless, he posed no threat to her and as a warrior she has a code of honor that prevent her from killing without a purpose. Over time they would grow to become more comfortable with each other. At one point one of Christopher Maloni's interests comes up and explains it to her; she gets impressed by that thing. That's when she falls in love with him.
Could you please turn this into a complete novel.

It definitely has its faults, but overall I really liked it. I do wish Superman was only an instrument of destruction in Metropolis, instead of the creator. Ie, only Zod throwing him through buildings instead of also having him destroy some with Zod.

Superman is considered a hero due to his unwavering commitment to justice, incredible powers used for good, and his selfless dedication to protecting humanity. His moral values, compassion, and sense of responsibility contribute to the iconic image of Superman as a symbol of hope and inspiration something Snyder didn't make him to be
I like how Martian Manhunter and Wonder Woman didn't help when the Kryptonians were going to make Earth a hellscape.
I feel like the finale not moving away from Metropolis could've been fixed with a couple of lines from Zod:
"He seems to care about these humans. Use them. Make him suffer."
Then, given superman was outnumbered, no matter what he does the Kryptonians would keep the battle centred on the city. It ensures a constant distraction to the only real threat against them, making him have to choose to fight or protect. It's one of the few ways you can really hurt Superman.

I wasn't crazy about the new outfit at first because I was like "Where's his underpants?" But after the movie & seeing Superman's outfit without his underwear in the comics & cartoons Henry's costume actually looks really good.
Henry Cavill is my ideal Superman. When I think of Superman I think of Henry Cavill. He just fits the role so well it's almost unreal.

So many comments already... One thing to keep in mind about the Pa Kent tornado scene on the page that sadly doesn't come across in the film... Clark is a teenager there. he's supposed to be in high school, like 15-16 years old. His dad is protecting his still a child's identity and chance at a normal life. Also Pa Kent is teaching his sacrifice.
He’s 17/18, but he’s, he’s right there at the cusp of adulthood when it happens.
But how does that line up with “consider letting those kids die” speech earlier?
There’s never a point when Pa Kent recognizes some things are more important than a normal life.

Yeah there was no excuse for that death scene. Could have been avoided multiple ways and even if he used super speed to save his dad, so what. Doesn’t make him to be an alien. There are tons of stories where people tap into superhuman abilities to save their loved ones in the heat of danger. No one is going to linger on that at all.
Cavill’s Superman fits well with Affleck’s Batman. Reeve’ Superman fits well with Keaton’s Batman. Routh’s Superman fits well with Bale’s Batman.
Messages In a bottle - Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises Bale was far too realistic to be in the Man of Steel-verse.
Batman Begins Bale was a lot more comic book theatrical, and that movie was released a year before Superman Returns. I Am Legend teased a crossover between them with Baleman’s logo and Super-Routh’s logo combined. This would’ve happened had Nolan agreed to do it.

@@blackSUAAAVE Pretty sure there are a lot of missing things because it's a 5 movie arc. This is the first, some stuff might not make sense but later on in justice league 2 or 3 we might find out. Maybe it's the same as Superman, wanting to hide from the world because they will treat him badly. And if he helps superman he'll die. Or get knocked out because there was a lot of fire in the battle. (It's his weakness, fire)
I really like Henry Cavill as Superman. I think he's solid. I also love how passionate he is about the role. But the thing that really made the film for me was Michael Shannon. Like holy sh*t he's good. He's legit one of my favorite movie villains. He's legit scary and also I honestly get where he's coming from. He literally watched his entire planet blow up. He basically had a front seat to the extinction of his race. He doesn't want world domination or any of that. He only has one goal, the survival of his people.
Also, Faora is hands down one of the most badass characters ever put on screen. I feel like she doesn't get enough love. Like you've got your Wonder Woman, Black Widow, Captain Marvel, Gamora and Scarlet Witch to name a few but I honestly like her more than a lot of them. Also, Superman's first flight is legit one of my all time favorites movie moments.
My biggest complaint with the film is the final fight. Like it genuinely depresses me seeing all that destruction. In any other movie I'd honestly be cheering but the fact that Superman isn't making an effort to lessen the damage or take the fight elsewhere. Like punching Zod outta the city or something. Like he's literally punching Zod through buildings and cutting buildings in half with heat vision. I'm all for consequences and I'm not saying there shouldn't be ANY damage but holy sh*t it was too much. At least for me. Especially for a character like Superman. One of his biggest weaknesses is his humanity. He'd go out of his way, while getting pummeled just to save people. Like there was Kaiju level destruction and Superman's ONLY concern seemed punching Zod into things.
Took the words right out of my mouth. Love that movie so much, but can't get past the *unnecessary* destruction. Like when Superman punches Namek into the Smallville trains, or when he effortlessly moves out of the way of an incoming gasoline truck, letting it crash and blow up part of a building.
As far as we know, the fight in Smallville is the first real fight Clark has ever been in, at least against someone about as strong as him, if you’ve never been a fight before it’s incredibly difficult to control the fight even if you know what you are doing.
In the fight with Zod he does try to remove him from the city and fails, because Zod is a much more experienced than him.
That actor is insane in everything he does its crazy. Just in revolutionary road hes there 10 mins and steals the show. Hes the best dcu villains and probably in the top 5 if you mix dcu and mcu
ecth97 in the Smallville fight, which by the way is hands down one of my favorite superhero battles, Superman was legit trying to save people. In the Metropolis fight, he literally grinded Zod's head into a freaking building, wrecking that building. He can literally superspeed Zod into a less populated place but as I said in my post, he was LITERALLY punching him INTO buildings, wrecking building after building, cutting buildings in half, the commenter above mentioned the big tanker explosion which he just let happen for no freaking reason and just not even seeming like he gave a single sh*t about the people there. Like there were a bunch of people there when the camera did the Snyder zoom.
Which is like the opposite of how he was acting in Smallville. He was STILL saving and helping the soldiers who were freaking shooting at him even though he was still getting his ass whooped. I'm sorry but imo, that final fight was just one of those thing that "look cool" but are nonsensical. As I said in my OP comment, I'm all for destruction and big consequences but Superman not giving a sh*t in the final battle just took me out of it. But that was just me.
There was never a scene where Superman punched Zod into a building in metroplis 😂 Zod threw Superman in multiple buildings and Superman ram his head on the side of the building but that was it. Compare that with JLU when Superman fought Darksied in a populated city and did not care when he punched Darksied through multiple buildings then punched him to the ground. Or his fight with Shazam that resulted an entire city block destroyed to its foundation because both of them was toppling buildings on top of eachother.
Best Krypton, the Animated series Krypton. I loved that design, the look felt homey, and then Bizarro was trying to recreate it. OH! SO GOOD!

saw it in IMAX 3D, front row and had to leave the theater several times during the movie because it was making us all nauseous.
I honestly don't get how some people get nausea because of camera shake..
I didn't even know it was a thing...
IMAX in general can make you nauseous. They play a voiceover before every movie at my IMAX that says that “watching a movie on a screen this large may cause dizziness. Simply close your eyes for a moment and the feeling will pass”.
@@roonietunes7 I watched at home on my projector. While it didn't make me nauseous (though I wager it would have in IMAX), once I noticed it, I couldn't stop noticing it for the rest of the movie.
It's one of those "hip" cinematography trends that needs to die.

For me, the tornado sequence shows that even though moments before Clark said "but you're not my father", he really did see him that way, and respected him and his position in Clark's life. And so Pa Kent's motive in that hurricane is not just "save people" but "save my son," so of course he's going to take the lead and tell Clark to stay safe. (Plus, do any of the Kents actually know he's tornado-proof at that point?) Clark listens because he listens to his father, despite all the teenage angst.
Pa Kent's general attitude in the movie, of feeling a conflict between wanting to encourage his child to follow his instincts to help people, and keeping his child safe, is pretty real. If my son said "dad, I want to enter a career where I'll be constantly endangering myself in order to help people," I would feel tremendous pride at that, but would at the same time likely say "what about a safe career?" because my primary concern as his parent is protecting him, not the rest of the world.
It just needs more, like maybe Clark does disobey his father and rush in only for Jonathan to be killed. Or Clark went to get the dog and Jonathan followed him to make it seem like Clark was normal to other people and then gets killed.
Two ways you can look at it:
1) Clark is doing what his father tells him because he's his father and tells him to do something
2) Clark actually agrees with Pa' Kent philosophy that he should stay secret
1 means he's a passive character. Which is proved again later in the movie. That's boring
2 is arguably worse. Choice defines character. So he's saying "you know what, anonimity is more valuable than the life of a person I love". That's the wrong choice to have him make. Even if you don't count that he's Superman, he's still a hero protagonist

My favourite part of the film is when superman is harnessing energy when he's under the world engine and his face morphs into Christopher Reeves!! An amazing callback and homage to the classical superman!! I love this movie I think its amazing and I love cavill as superman and hope to see him return!!

all you’ve gotta do to fix this movie is have Zod and Feora do the destruction of Metropolis while Superman is trapped in the gravity of the World Engine. Then Superman comes in, creates a radius for he and Zod to fight in, and then has to make the decision to kill him. It would have been great of Superman to save his people too 😅

This is how I do it. Rewatch it. Imagine Clark knows he's an alien but he's being respectful of the General's secret. The conversation between them here in this film appears like he knows and letting the general know he k no vows without saying it.

As a father I can appreciate the change in Jonathan Kent. As a parent you want to protect your children and you can be overprotective. So I understand the character. Not that he is right but, I understand.
And the change in Jonathan Kent isn't really a change because Pa Kent in the 1939 comics told Clark not to use his powers until he grows up.
I think invincible does a city fight the best. When omni man punches mark though the building and he comes crashing down onto the street. All those people who die instantly cause of the impact shows it the best and how destructive these beings can be

I saw this film 5 times in Cinema, I loved it... (Granted I have an unlimited card) and then when I finally saw the reviews come out on youtube etc, I was amazed at the hate it got... P.S. I always took his outburst after the “kill” to be more of a general anger/remorse at the whole situation, not just the single kill

5 times? Geez. I think the fighting in smallville was fine but once they started fighting in the city it was kind of awful imo. There was no substance just punching and smashing buildings. That leads me to a thought of how difficult it is to showcase the power of these characters yet not making it a boring dribble of superman smash. Also the dong rockets were ridiculous and Clark's father letting himself get eaten by a tornado is also dumb. They could of just had him have a heart attack or something and it would of worked

Well, for Clark's father dying part is not stupid, yes it maybe unecessary but it's not stupid. He was willing to protect his son's secret to the grave and didn't let Clark to save him because he loved him and this love is not a selfish one. Yeah some people knew Clark, and he did some outstanding scenes here and there, but the point still stands. He basically wanted to say "My Son... Don't show your powers just yet, because people aren't ready yet for you". You can see a hint in his eyes that Clark wanted to save him, but he also wanted to honor his dad wishes. Because Clark was also bullied for his powers which caused him to doubt humanity, yet he deep down is actually a good guy that faced internal conflict everyday, sometimes he saved people, but sometimes he hesitated too. Earlier, he was debating about wanting to save people, but Joseph hated the idea in which Clark lashing out saying that the Kents weren't his true family, in a way saying that he didn't belong here. That's why he cried after killing Zod. Being a Krypton actually gives him purpose that otherwise wouldn't be fulfilled since he doesn't belong on Earth.
