Really interesting designs by Matt. The interior storage and sleeping space is really coming together well.

You look just as sharp in 97 as you do now. I also note you're still using the same belt! Don't change good things :)

Great to hear about your encounters with Matt and the Paradox! What would be the biggest voyage or passage you would undertake in a paradox? I am still getting to know mine better and better after 3 years. Your videos I enjoy very much! Keep on going :)

The chine runners are a less extreme way of doing without a retractable leeway preventer of some kind. And even this statement is not entirely correct. This is because this system relies on the rudder to provide much of the lift to windward.
And this idea is about as old as the hills. It has been used on some Chinese junks and also on a British fishing boat known as a "coble".
The purpose of the chine runners is to make it possible to reduce the size of the rudder.
I have thought of doing away with the dagger board on my small scow, which has deep sides. But for this to work, I'd have to move the mast aft by about 23 inches. And this will work only if I got my math right.
I may still do it, someday.

The coble do have a deep rudder but no horisontal fins.
The rudder gives lateral resistance but not mostly if so the boat would have a lot of lee helm

The Coble is an unusual design, it is made to go backwards!
They are beach launched and land stern first. Hence the highly raked transom and very deep forefoot, which acts like a fin.
The deep forefoot will assist upwind

The West Mersea Duck Punt sails to windward with neither keel, rudder, nor chine runners. It just has to be heeled so the chine acts as a keel.

Sven could you also comment on Matt Layden's unique boom roller reefing system? Do you think its good for ocean/ blue water sailing? thanks! ive attended a few Everglades Challenges here in St Petersburg florida, Matt's designs are amazing.

I think Matts sail will work fine for the ocean.
Only thing the preventer have to be at the end of the boom.
I prefer The balanced lugsail. It needs no boom vang or kicking strap also no worry about gibes
