The Beast is WICKED FAST, has two steep climbs and drops that make it feel like two back-to-back rides, and is even more fun if you ride during different times of the day. Hopping on after the sun goes down? The covered tunnels you'll fly through will be even more disorienting and fantastically-intense.
Some people say the Beast is lame by modern coaster standards, but it still remains one of my all-time favorite rides.
Words can't describe how amazing for the ride the retrack was. You actually get pops of airtime off the first and second drops now, and you really fly through the tunnels after the first set of trims.
I remember riding the Beast as a child/teen and it was awesome, especially at night, but I rode it the summer before Covid and it was too rough to really enjoy. Did the 2022 track maintenance make it any smoother?

The first 5 seconds of this helped put into perspective just how huge Vortex's footprint was. Imagine all the track Vekoma could squeeze in there on a 2nd gen tilt coaster...just imagine.
Or any next gen model. They all look amazing!
The Vortex was an amazing ride though. I am gonna miss it.
I could personally see an RMC Raptor (the Midwest really needs one!) or Mack/Intamin multi-launch coaster going in that space. :)
@@brycefourn2001 As much as I agree with the midwest needing a raptor, knowing cedar fair, it will probably be a mack or some sort of B&M (though I don't think KI needs another B&M). I could totally see Kentucky Kingdom or SFGAm getting one, though.
They should def put an RMC or a compact Launch coaster there. Then It’d be a top tier park. Not that it isn’t
I first rode the Beast in 1978/79.... 16 times in a row before closing time on a warm September night, it seemed to get faster and the helix was bouncing our behinds around like crazy ! 50 + years of riding coasters and the Beast is still my all time favorite !
The retrack is so smooth, especially coming out of the first tunnel. They really did a great job and I hope they continue to maintain this coaster for years to come

Just rode this yesterday! Its a lot smoother and it definitely moved up in my rankings. There is ONE PROBLEM. The trim brakes on the hill after the first drop has a huge jerk on the ride. We went over it and it felt like hitting a pothole in a civic.
I understand what you're saying. However, all the trims on the ride have always been there, well after the first few years that is. The problem is not the trims, it is how they feel now compared to how they used to feel. Back when they were skid brakes you just floated over them gently for a longer distance now they are magnetic and are condensed into a very small spot. Cedar Fair could have done a much better job simulating the old feeling, but that would have cost a bit more money, so of course that didn't happen.
I honestly don’t mind this ride being ruff because the thing is one of the most insane rides at night.
i guess riding it at night hides the fact the the coaster does very little in it over 7000 ft of track. I mean t has like 3.5 hills

Perfect! Looks so much faster after the retrack. Be great to have them add a 3rd lift hill and make it even longer. It's like a mix between a woodie and an alpine coaster.
I swear you must be a time traveler because kings island just released a concept they have that shows an even longer beast with a third lift hill that they may make

I love the tunnels! Reminds me of the Shooting Star at Cincinnati's Coney Island.
I love the retrack. People complain about the trims but I don’t really care since they help the ride run longer. It’s still one of the best wooden coasters and definitely better than Mystic Timbers now.
I find both Beast and mystic timbers 2 of the most overrated coasters on the planet but mystic timbers is definitely still far better. It’s just more intense and smooth at the same time the trims kill the experience with the beast
The trims are terrible
I really wish people would stop complaining about Trim brakes. It's to help keep the roller coaster up and efficiently running. Ppl also need to educate themselves about roller coaster mechanics if they're going to complain about how a roller coaster should and shouldn't work .. 🙄 anyway, I can't wait to ride The Beast! It is soo much smoother now. Still a few rough spots, but the turn at the bott of the first drop and the double helix are soo smooth compared to what it used to be. I was impressed with how smooth it was when I rode it the other day

NIce POV. I remember not being that much impressed with the beast on my 2015 visit. I wonder how smoother it is in comparison...
My favorite part of the beast is that view you get of Kings Island on the top of the second lift hill. I find it stunning every single time night or day.

I was there on Friday 5/13 and unfortunately when I went back to that section of the park walking by Diamonback, i could see the train was actually stuck on the lift hill.... peeps had to walk off. I never actually got to ride it as I left around 7. Hopefully next trip I'll be able to get to ride it with the new tracking. It looks amazing!! 🎢

Thanks for the first POV I have seen of the retrack. When I don’t hear u all react to anything, I figure it’s mediocre. So, even though it’s not a coaster, watching u all on Infinity Falls at Sea World is a must. I haven’t laughed that hard in a while.
The Beast IS a pretty mediocre wooden roller coaster. But this retrack looks like it makes it much smoother than it was.

When it opened in 1979 it was it was the longest coaster in the world at 7,361ft, a title it's maintained for wooden coasters ever since. The beast is also now 2ft longer thanks to the reshaping of the first drop. The only ride with a longer track is the 318ft tall "Steel Dragon" at Nagashima Spa Land in Japan, with 8,133ft of track and a top speed of 95mph.

This was the first wooden roller coaster I ever rode in my life...in 1987 when I was 7. I'm about to turn 42 in June. I remember this ride so well. Kings Island also carried up until 2019, the first multi looping roller coaster I ever been on in my life in the Vortex at the same time. I plan to visit Kings Island again someday.

Was the final drop/helix trim biting harder than it used to? It looks a teeny bit slower than it was, but it’s hard to tell on video.

There used to be but it’s trimmed so there’s no airtime anymore.

The trims have always been there (for the most part), it's just that in the 90s they changed from manually-adjusted friction trims to automatic magnetic trims. Great example is the long shed after the first drop. Originally, the car slowed down over the entire length of that section of track; now there is a magnetic trim near the end, so it feels like the car comes to jolting halt. In actuality, the trains are hitting the second tunnel at the same speed they always have, we just perceive it differently because it happens instantly instead of gradually.

This coaster is a classic, but it is dated severely…..It’s not even scary by todays’ standard….It seems like a joyride, explore and appreciate the beautiful landscape/scenery coaster than a thrill coaster…IJS
While that may be so, it still boasts the record for the longest wooden coaster in the world and has since 1979, and is a staple in coaster history. It's an ACE landmark and a testament to how far coasters have come over the years. I'm glad Kings Island is maintaining The Beast instead of replacing it with something "scarier". Also, ride this at night and it's way more thrilling. It's pitch black back there.
I honestly think it's the best coaster to "come down" on during the day if my adrenaline peaks and I need to relax without being bored before I get too hyper.

I can’t be the only one who thinks The Beast is super boring…the best and only part in my opinion is the helix at the end.
Of course it's boring when you compare it to new rides. It opened in 1979 mind you, and still hasn't been beat for track length by another woodie and likely never will be.
I’ve been on car rides more thrilling than The Beast. Such a waste of wood IMO. I get that it’s nostalgic for people, but I don’t get the hype.
The world's longest wooden coaster since 1979, and a it's doubtful that record ever will be beat by another woodie, that's the hype. Not many coasters give a 4 minute experience either, so it's a ride where the wait actually pays off.
It’s not trilling. It’s a crazy fast ride through the woods. There will never be any ride as unique.
