I’m actually a college dropout, got married, had 2 kids.. busted my ass for Lowes for 5 years delivering appliances for $13.50 an hour, had good benefits. Then worked for one of the largest insurance companies on the east coast in a middle tier position making around $40,000 a year.. worked there for 5 years.. Covid Hits and they lay me off… back to square one..So now I’m in welding school. Loved that you brought that up. Made me feel like I’m on the up, just gotta get through it.

Underwater weilding is where it is at. Both my older brothers and my stepdad are weilders. For the work they do I feel is underpaid. And went a different path. To be fair they make $25 an hour, and I make $20 an hour at both jobs I work, we put in about the same hours of work a week, and I make more than all of them. If you go intro weilding don’t stop at the minimum, you do underwater wielding you’ll be retired in your late 40’s through early 50’s if you are good with money and save some. Don’t let lifestyle creep on you

In these uncertain times, it's more important than ever to have a solid understanding of how to manage your finances, invest wisely and navigate economic downturns. But my primary concern is how to grow my reserve of $240k which has been sitting duck since forever with zero to no gains, sure I'm all in on the long term game, but with my savings are lying waste to inflation and my portfolio losing gains everyday, I need a remedy.

If you need advice, consider speaking with a financial advisor. Don't get me wrong, you can do it on your own, but financial advisors have a lot more knowledge and expertise in this area.

Georgetown got her her first job in finance. She said the way to learn about finance is to work in finance, so her Georgetown degree was absolutely worth it. Her entrepreneurship came out of a specific, upward path via finance firms. She didn't have a product to bring to market, so the kind of entrepreneurship we have become accustomed to hearing about (software, gaming, social media) was not her background. It's apparent that her personality and drive are the elements that took her to her current situation, and arguable, those cannot be taught.

Codie is 37, in her 20s you needed the degree and the letters after your name to climb the corporate ladder. For the current and future generation, she talks about experience will matter more. Moreover, with her growth and grit mindset, this lady was gonna succeed either way. Some will say she got that from her education or her experience; or maybe she got the experience because of her mindset. People will always argue the chicken or the egg. Who cares. It’s all protein. Just eat.

@@ninopenon8305So you’re saying just ignore a very big point that refutes the ideas she brings up? Lol. School gave her the preparation and skills she needed to get that far. Some can be credited to her own ambition but we can’t just ignore the fact that she had a lot of help and telling people that they don’t need it to make it.

Haha, investing enthusiast? Not really. Our family got introduced to a financial consultant about four years before my dad retired. That was what changed things, and I think my retirement will be on the right track.

Please could you guide me on how to get in touch with your consultant? My funds are being eroded by inflation and I seek a more lucrative investment strategy to effectively utilize before I consider retirement

impressive, I'll definitely check it out, I buy the idea of employing the services of a financial advisor because finding that balance between saving and living requires counsel. Who do you work with?

Enjoyed every minute of the podcast! Codie has extraordinary insight and clarity covering a variety of subject matter. Really nice to hear from a female perspective - so much can learned from guests like her. Even at my age (ancient), there is always something beneficial to take away from an ICH podcast - not to mention how entertaining it is to see and listen to Graham and Jack.😊

I think that we were never taught about the details of money because no teacher out there would be teaching if they knew how to run businesses. More now understand money, however few can grasp the new concept of what was instilled for so long in our brains. I want to hit my head and forget what I used to think about money. I am just starting my second business which is scary but a risk I need to take to understand my next level as a leader not so much a business manager. I need to switch to Owner mode. Learning money is that step I am missing to "get there". Owning a business and understanding how it generates income is the true trick. Is it Cash Positive or Cash Flow..... such a big difference between the 2.

VERY interesting guest, I do agree on most things she says and mentions. I am confident in my own career and life development, but always looking for improving myself.
at 1:58 I just jumped up and shouted "YES, THANK YOU FOR SAYING THAT OUT LOUD!!" hahaha
I think it brings us faster to where we want to go, if we focus on US and what WE can do and not find or even make up reasons as to why others get somewhere, or hinder us on going somewhere...

It depends there are certain majors especially in STEM that you really need to go college. I am an Electrical Engineer I am actually glad I chose that major and went to college. Is a very tough major but is worth it at the end.

I took notes and paused allot thru the wee hours of the morning since midnight to cross research meanings while watching.. I like the financial language gems she was dropping.. I never knew they were important like that. I knew what ROI and OPM's and a few others were, and mean, but I apparently had never heard of DEI, Basis Points etc.... I have more to study.. Like her content online and confidence... Good quality leader and perfect 3:20 deep dive on great topics.!

Great insights on the value of college degrees today. For entrepreneurs, remember that the most successful people often create their own education through real-world experiences, networking, and self-directed learning, which can be more impactful than traditional schooling.

Idk if I'll jump into watching her still but my respect for her after watching this episode is through the roof.
