My father was the same way, but as she said, "you have to take risks". I'm still in the learning phase that she mentioned, but I have every intention of doing the same as her. Just taking a different approach to it since I'm not a business major. lol

I was an exec admin .... and all the new MBAs had NO idea to really run their departments ---- their degree was far beyond being impractical - and they pay the tuition off forever. Waste of their money
except many of you wouldn't have given the non MBAs a second look

Our parents having a more anti-risk mindset, felt that in my soul. Absolutely had that mindset pushed onto me growing up in the 90's and even still appears in my adulthood today as a 33 year old. And though I wouldn't take my college experience back for anything, I'm not even in the same field as my degree lol

I did a lot of online courses as a grad school equivalent and was able to compound so much faster than just relying on guided undergrad classes. It did so much for my personal brand and knowledge. Really learned a lot.
Codie you are so inspiring!!! As a first generation college grad and someone who’s worked in corporate world (and drowned in it) I’m ready to start making some changes to become an investor. I was considering getting into more debt with an MBA but because of your videos I’m now looking to open two small businesses and learn the hard not way and earn at the same time :)

I saw my parents rely on Corp America and it chewed them up and spit them out. I built a million dollar business while keeping a corp job. Now I am building #2/3 at 50. Thank goodness I found Cody last year. I will do it even faster than the last time
How old were you when you started your 1st business? Im 41 with a good paying and stable job, but want more out of life. Got cash in the bank and no family. I'm thinking about giving up my career and trying my hand at business.
@@lawv804 43 with 4 kids and a stay at home wife..I had done a few things on the side but they never produced any significant income. "stable" is what I thought I had after 25 years in my industry. you should be crushing it, keep your day job and do more

I love this concept of shepherds of people. When I was going through trying to play in the NFL, I asked a scout what the most important question on all of the forms they made us fill out was. He replied "Who else should we be recruiting that you played with or against, and why?" Always be looking to collect people that are better at things than you are is something I try to do as often as possible, and doing so has increased the impact that I can have.

When you say that you give your operators “skin in the game” with equity… are you actually giving this to to them (good will), or are you giving them the opportunity to buy-in for their portion of the equity ?

An MBA isn't the only path to success, but it's a valuable tool to have in your arsenal. While some may debate its usefulness, many companies won’t hire you without it. I believe everyone should endeavor to start a business, but we shouldn't overlook the skills gained from working in a professional setting, especially in prestigious companies like Goldman Sachs. These experiences can be invaluable in shaping one's understanding of the industry and honing essential skills.
MBA is only good if you want to stay in the indoctrination system and become an employee.
Therefore, an MBA is not a path to real & true success.
An MBA is a money maker for colleges & universities.
100 percent my belief as well. Even now, with my "little" experience that I've had as a new entreprenuer.

There is also a fact that no matter how old or young you are, some people are just oblivious of the opportunities and possible outcomes in life, someones grandma was a pilot and nowdays some people are still afraid to fly in plane. 😂

As always, Codie makes great points and I always agree with everything she says. My takeaway from this video is "If you stopped learning at your current job, you should be looking for another where you learn new things." Funny that I hear this, as I am currently taking a few courses to prepare myself to look for a new job due to this same reason.

I think an MBA and college in general exposes you to ideas. And like you said, if you get arrogant about what you think you know then you are looking at it wrong. If while your getting real world experience you come across areas that you have been exposed too it can help you to know some of the book knowledge. I run my own business and learned more in 1 year than I did in all 6 years of formal education....but! I also mixed in some things I learned in school that has helped me get through further faster.

...but some parents also "protect" their children, because they don't want them to succeed. It's true. Some parents will create such a negative, fearful environment for their children, because they want to control and manipulate their children so that they don't become greater than the parent.

I had one class and capstone left to complete my MBA. I dropped out. I felt as though I had learned nothing new, and that all of my classmates were getting an MBA ro get a job and work for someone else. I already have another Master’s degree. I may finish it just to finish it….but it was a waste of money for me personally.
Im wealthy and I went to MBA at Georgetown (constantly telling everyone that) and then telling them why it wasnt helpful. a lot of this is just a racket. I smell a racket.

I really like your content Codie but i didnt understsnd how you first espoused about getting rich slowly and compounding in the market over time (quoting Buffett), then later undermining the idea of investing in the stock market over time through an IRA or 401K. Its basically the same thing??
I didn't even know you could buy a business until I was like 29. Also scrapping by from 17 to 25 just to make it doesn't help either.

I recently saw a woman that let her trash service business (almost a 1000 customers) die because she couldn't stand the idea that other people could run it - she had to stick to "It was hopeless" instead of letting anyone else have it. All those customers went to another local company, but she could've sold that 2-million $ business.
