Instead of building your SOPs just in case someone gets hit by a bus, I like to keep it more positive. "Just in case you win the lottery!" Additionally, in SMB we occasionally see people that are afraid to teach others what they know because they think it's job security. I like to help them understand that it will never endanger their job to build SOPs, but it will make it a lot easier for me to promote them once I know that someone else can backfill the position.

One thing to note is that a lot of SMBs use 3rd party vendors to run their online businesses, that is why there could have a lot of platform and payment issues, because they "pay for use". How about "pay for build and free to use" as long as you want, it makes things a lot easier. if could have your entire online all-in-one platform built at a fraction of the cost you are currently paying "to use" and get it done in short amount of time, will you be interested ?
The issue is for MOST small businesses it takes not months or a year but a decade or more to build to profitability, that's why you will find few if any profitable business for sale easily. Virtually all businesses for sale have major issues, dying business, winding down business, etc. No business owner spent a decade to build a profitable business is willing to let go, if any do exist, they are long taken by someone the owner identifies. That's the challenge. Also most people who are interested in buying a business, have no idea what they are in for. I recommend any prospective new owner go ahead work in the industry he she is interested in, for at least 6 months, doing every task so they get a taste what it's really like. Unfortunately, most just wanna be absentee owners, and that won't work. To have the ideal entry and exist strategy is a vision, only translates into reality rarely.

Just ask. I've bought both a business and a couple properties with seller financing. If the seller is motivated, they'll make it work.
