Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing here at Wacken Open Air festival 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of a 82k audience.
Also a recent sad news - these days Marco Hietala, the bass player and male singer of the band, announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
As I saw you enjoyed this powerful performance of the band, together with the stellar vocals and charisma of our Dutch metal queen, Floor Jansen. The goosebumps you experienced at the end have its own name, it's called FLOORGASM :) Hope you'll continue on this path.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

Another soul swept away by our Valkyrie goddess. That "feeling" at the end is known as a "Floorgasm". Floor Jansen (pronounced Yan-sen) is the best female vocalist today. She can sing any genre, any style from opera to pop, to growls. You will be visited by Gabriel who will fill you in on the band details. Just follow his playlist and you can't go wrong. Personally, I recommend Ever Dream from the same Wacken show next. Subbed to join you on your Nightwish journey. Enjoy the ride.

Nightwish is a glorious rabbit hole of awesome, with world class song-writing, musicianship and arguably (or unarguably to most who've heard her enough😉) the best female vocalist alive today (maybe ever), Floor Jansen.
Floor is the third female vocalist that Nightwish have had and officially joined the band in 2013, she is still with them today.
Floor herself is another glorious rabbit hole of awesome as she has alot of non-Nightwish related stuff that she has done that is all pretty amazing as well.
The name of the genre they generally belong to is Symphonic Metal but their discography is extremely varied.
This was the 13th song in this particular set, she is belting notes like that the entire set.
Some suggestions for more songs for you would be Storytime, Ever Dream, Romanticide, Nemo, She is my Sin, Amaranth and Song of Myself all from Wacken 2013.
Saying that, anything from Wacken 2013 is golden really to start, there's a reason why that set is pretty legendary at this point.
Beware of some messed up slowed down versions of the Wacken 2013 songs as they can take the energy right out of the performances, just check the comments on them and I'm sure someone will mention if it's a slowed down version.
Your choice obviously but I'd avoid Poet and the Pendulum and The Greatest Show on Earth for now until you are more familiar with the band and it's history, they will make alot more sense and be more enjoyable for you that way.

In my mid 50s right now. Listened to and watched a LOT of performances in my lifetime. This Wachen performance of Ghost Love Score is the best I have ever seen. Bar none.

I'm in hte same age bracket. I found Nightwish thanks to the pandemic. Somehow they appeared on my recommends. I am still falling down the rabbit hole. But, that Wacken set is absolute pure gold. Not a single bad track on it. Floor makes the likes of Rihanna, Lady GaGa and Beyonce seem like cats in a bin singing.
Best version is the official live video from Buenos Aries but this is a very close second

@@wickedfuctup : I know the differences between Wacken 2013 and Buenos Aires 2012. In the latter performance, Floor seems unsure of herself singing. The part of GLS, in the second half of the song, where she ends the music phrase with "bless the adoring beast," is flat, almost like she didnt know where she wanted to go, vocally. In the Wacken performance, she is more sure of herself, belting out that part with more grit and more power. The ending, while good at Buenos Aires, sounds almost desperate to me. At Wacken, Floor takes command of the vocals in the music, and she never lets that command go. As she says in the documentary, "I'm a huge perfectionist -- and I know these guys are as well." That perfectionism paid off huge dividends, since out of the two performances, Wacken is the most-reacted to performance on the internet. Everything about it is perfection -- from Jukka's drums to Marko's own vocals. It also helped that nobody was sick when Wacken took place. But the biggest thing is, I honestly think being the headline band in 2013 at Wacken forced the entire band to up their game. That kind of pressure was actually good, because not many bands could be in that position, and exceed their own standards -- and Nightwish did that in spades.

I'm glad you like all kinds of music as do I. I have a certain love for music most people don't understand. And as you said it has to be "good" music, but that's the problem.... define "good". People have many definitions of the word good when it comes to music so it limits their mind to explore other genres and end up sticking to one.

The 6 foot 1 Dutch Goddess of all things vocal is, Floor Jansen.
As you heard, she is the most versatile singer you will ever hear.... she growls too. 😁
Floor is a soprano trained in and used to teach opera as well as was a vocal coach. Unfortunately her career duties don't allow her time to teach anymore.
She prides herself a "geek" on knowing anything and everything there is to know about the vocal mechanism and how it works. From breath management in the diaphragm, rib muscles and lung capacity, down to the resonating tone created by the shape of the skull, and everything in between.
She studied in the Dutch Rock Academy for 4 years in 1999, entering the Conservatorium Tilburg in 2003 where she got enough points at the Rock Academy to attend 1 more year at Tilburg, and she studied 1 year of musical theater and opera.
You are going to love your journey. The rabbit hole goes deep, so buckle up and enjoy the ride.

Nightwish Army, Texas Regiment, United States reporting! Probably, I am one of the oldest members of the Army at 63 years old! Yes...63 years old! You have just discovered one of the best bands I have ever listened to in my life! I started listening to rock and roll at 8 years old...back in 1965!!! I have heard all the great bands and I am totally addicted to Nightwish! I am trying to listen to over 25 years of Nightwish music...and I have yet to listen to anyone of their songs that I don't totally love!
Just be prepared to enjoy one of the most talented vocalist you could ever hope to listen to...Floor Jansen...the goddess!!!!

You chatted over too many good parts, you can't build up the athmosphere when you look at the camera and talk n talk. Maybe listen and don't talk and if you wanna talk don't be afraid to pause the video. Just a thought.

They are considered Symphonic Metal.. Symphonic metal allows them to take their music in several different directions.. They have the longer, grand sounding, epic production songs like this one.. But, they also have several of the more classic metal style songs as well.. and just about everything in between.. They even have songs that have a bit of a Celtic folk/rock kind of vibe.. But, no matter the basic style the song they will all have those signature symphonic elements that give the music that crazy rich, full sound... Take it from me, Nightwish is very much a "Live" experience.. But, that's not a problem for reactors because there has to be about a hundred different Nightwish songs out there on RUclips in an Official Live video format, recorded from a performance from somewhere in the world... Take your choice, the Night Army loves it all..

welcome to symphonic metal. i'm not a big fan of all the RWOOOAAARRRR stuff, either. if it's used sparingly for effect. but not all the time. you're going to get some criticism for talking over the music. you'll be better off pausing the video to talk. Nightwish reactions get blocked fairly often. pauses make it less likely. it's good you have a lot to say. they have enough reactors who just sit there silently the whole time. love your bubbly personality. good luck with the channel.

Sometimes first time listeners get so entranced by Floor's voice they miss the serious stuff going on around her. If you want the Goddess to sing from the top of a turret of a beautiful castle ... somebody has to build the friggin' castle. That's what Nightwish does for her and don't think for a single minute she takes that for granted. Her humility is rare and unmatched - just watch her when they're taking bows at the end of The Greatest Show On Earth in Tempere - the last thing she does is point to Toumas before they walk off arms around each other. Watch her with Marko when they sing Ava Maria together. Watch Emppu play around with her, making her smile ... they ARE a family and it's the whole that is so far greater than it's separate parts. It's magical when they come together. We are watching greatness as an art form and it's unlikely anything is going to come around to match it's originality.

Welcome to Nightwish, your next Favorite Band. When you first saw Floor, I knew we were in for a great reaction, and you did not disappoint. If you feel you have to call this music by some sort of label, "Symphonic Metal" works as well as anything . . . although I've never understood this mania to categorize everything we hear. To my thinking, a label is a limit, and why should we want to limit anyone's vision of their music? Music is here to enjoy, not to compartmentalize.
You've got a lot of Nightwish yet to hear, and as surprised as you are now, even more surprises are waiting. We look forward to joining you for your journey of discovery.
