    Where you noticed the tribal part in this song, I always thought it was showing how simple life was and then as the electric guitars slowly creep in it represents modern life coming in and making everything all chaotic.

    To me the intermission in the middle tells the whole history of human violence and warfare, it begins on a more primitive note with the tablas like ancient man and builds and builds to this wrathful power-- driven explosion that could symbolize modern man with his arsenals of weapons and nukes and capacity for mass or even total destruction. Just a thoughtful masterful composition.

    This is one Tool song where I’d recommend the video. It’s one of the few that isn’t distracting. Pretty straightforward.
    Regarding “tribal” sound… Danny studies so many different types of drumming, it’s amazing. It’s like he has lived a dozen past lives… was a drummer in a different part of the world in each one… and we are blessed to witness the culmination of aaaaallll of those lives in the Danny of today. GOAT. Every one of them is a master at what they do.

  • @Gimpit

    Yes, that's the theme of the album. Every Tool album has a musical concept. You'll notice Undertow is "dirty/gritty", Opiate is "preachy/sarcasm", Aenema is "water/the gap" (not really sure how to articulate the "vastness of the internal headspace when stuck inside it" other than by calling it "the gap" if that makes sense), Lateralus is "space/multidimensional/realization" and 10,000 Days is "tribal/shamanism/humility" while unifying all albums with psychedelic/philosophical overtones. Not necessarily in the subject matter of the lyrics, but in the overall metaphysics of the instramentation and vocal patterns.

    One of the best interpretations is that the angel who tells the story is Lucifer because no other angel would have questioned God's will. The war in question could be both that of men, but also the rebellion of Lucifer started for the envy of the love given to men even if it is clear that they do not deserve it.

    • @TraditionalHippie
      @TraditionalHippie Год назад

      Every angel has free will. Lucifer said “I will not serve” bc God was going to become man (which is a lower creature). It speculated around 1/2 of the angels decided to rebel.
      The war in question is undoubtedly by men.

      Nice! I’ve never noticed that. They did the same thing with Fear Inoculum. There’s a lyric that says “my own mitosis”. If you’re unaware, mitosis is the process by which a single cell splits into two cells. And it’s at exactly the middle of the song. Brilliant.

    5:53 - Yeah, it's a very grief-laden track, mostly about our squandered potential as so many of us focus on Darwinian imperatives over advancing the state of the species (and so much of that goes back to stuff like Slate Star Codex's 'Meditations on Moloch', multipolar traps, tragedies of the commons, and all the coordination problems where there's so much first-defector advantage).

    You get it, my friend. Art imitates life but also sheds light on our human follies. We're the only species of animal on Earth where our unique intellect begat religion and politics. Why? As a means of control. To temper our animalistic urges and to NOT tribalize but rather gather under one credo. Unfortunately, we humans have had a historically tough time trying to consent to a consensual and overarching detente. Whether spiritual or scientific. Which is why we feel the need to invent/elect/worship tribal leaders/gods in the first place.

  • @bruun1974
    @bruun1974 Год назад

    It's deep as f for sure, yet sadly spot on about us humans (when observed as a whole species) in plain site of the lyrics. When you look at us from up above and what we've done to our own planet as a collective (pollution etc.), to each other and all the other species of animals we share it with, the angels in the song observing us are right to question why we were unleashed. That's just a sad and horrible truth. Which isn't to say we humans on an individual level could be well deserving members of the Eco System of planet Earth (as we were in the beginning before we blew a hole in the equilibrium that kept all life in balance), but greed took root in enough of us and the rest of us have dwindled in numbers and so far proven easy adversaries and prey to the architects of this mess past and very much present.

    Angels aren't fans of humans. They had to follow his will and are frustrated he gave us free will to choose. It was the source of the battle that created "hell". Lucifer was a top angel and hated this creating his army.
    Keep the spiral going out 🌀

    • @TraditionalHippie
      @TraditionalHippie Год назад

      Angels are our advocates. They are not confused or frustrated. They also have free will. That is the basis for the Fall. Around 1/2 the angels *decided* they would not serve God since God was going to become a lower creature.

    • @inspectorquaalude714
      @inspectorquaalude714 Год назад

      @theologyofthebody2870 Angels are not the advocates of humans , God is. Angels are the messengers of God. Only a few humans have been direct receivers from God's message i.e. Moses , Noah , Solomon and a few more. Angels made a decision in the war to either follow God's will/plan regardless of what it is or rebel with Lucifer to create instability and chaos which brings about questions of God.
