I have traveled to Durban several times one of the best beach resort areas in the world. Everyone seems to get along great and they have the best bars and the coolest pool parties. Some of the most beautiful women on the face of this earth walk those beaches.

I think if you don't enjoy crowds then go and holiday in the mountains at this time of the year . It's a public beach for everyone to enjoy and I'm sure the children enjoying the pools are having a fabulous time .

Durban beaches were segregated during apartheid. The Blue Lagoon and Sunkist areas were reserved for non whites while the best beach front areas were reserved for Whites. When apartheid ended anyone could use the best parts. These people are just having fun. It is fabulous. If there is a problem, it is a numbers problem, NOT a race problem.
I am also from there, left in 2000 and now in Cape Town. I miss the warm waters of KZN. 20 years in Cape Town and still haven't taken a dip in the ocean, believe you me, I lived for two years 1 km from the beach, fished but never swam, the water is just too cold for that.
Holy cow that is a lot of people at the beach. I have never seen so many people. So crowded - Water Safety would be an issue for me. I don’t know if I could enjoy bumper to bumper people. Maybe if I were younger. Looks to be standing room only in some areas. Enjoy folks. 😎👍
Other days the beach is literally AWESOME. But not near the end of the year. I live a few minutes away from the beach yet we barely go. But when we do its simply amazing. Not this. Its is indeed very filthy at this time. Booze, litter, people not using the appropriate places to relieve themselves. Durbans waters have been contaminated with faeces at busy times. This has been proven. There have been clips going around how dolphins have came back to the same beaches due to the quarantine.

Mmmm... yeah during holiday season they’re definitely expensive. I suggest you book in advance, not only will the prices be lower but your room will be on reserve. Many hotels get booked quickly
I love the beach. The thought of lazing about on beach sand getting a bit of a tan whilst hearing the tranquility of seagulls and waves breaking behind you.. then following that up with a cooling swim in the open waves and maybe going for a relaxing walk along the beach afterwards... Which is precisely why I'm glad I was nowhere near this roach-swarm over new-years -- but I do feel bad for anyone who might have been looking forward to a pleasant day as such on the beach! These people surely could not have been enjoying a day out at the beach if they are all packed on top of each other like sardines, rubbing on each other's sweat and practically swimming in each others' piss. Perhaps it's just my own subjective aesthetic senses and judgements, but that is really quite a disturbing image if I do say so myself...........
