  • Perfect Parries are one of the best "gotcha" moments you can achieve in Street Fighter 6. However most people don't make the most out of it! The Parry scales your damage, and most people still go for the big combo when that's really not what you should do. So... lets talk about what you SHOULD do!

    So basically, most people use Perfect Parry in the wrong way. Its nobodies fault really, you get the combo opportunity, you go for the combo. Thats fighting games 101. However due to the heavy scaling of Perfect Parries in SF6, going for the big combo... really isn't that big. So forget the big combo! Let me tell you about the things you should really be aiming for after you land that perfect parry!

    Another option is to go after their drive gauge! Jp for example has a combo using lvl 2 super art where he can do multiple drive impacts and really crush the opponents drive gauge . I'm sure others have similar options... Blanka comes to mind.

      Jamie kind of can of his level 3, he gets the level 3 drive damage and can end his combo with a drive impact. Its enough so that blocking an EX reversal guarantees he can break your drive gauge with the punish counter combo.

    I'm glad you covered this! Yes, the Perfect Parry scales damage horribly, but it allows for punishes that wouldn't have been possible otherwise. As such, I learned it's better to focus on getting a better knockdown rather than optimal damage. Even something as basic as Zangief's down-forward throw (or back throw if cornered) yields a greater long-term reward.

    I honestly find that, when in doubt, just do a normal throw. Throws get a larger punish counter bonus compared to everything else, putting their post-parry damage on par with a lot of punishes, and the guaranteed hard knockdown means pretty much anyone can get a setup afterward. With so many options on the table it's going to be hard to know what the optimal punish is in any scenario, and I'd rather get a relatively "low" reward scenario than freeze up and give up a free punish.

  • @SpacedogD
    @SpacedogD Год назад +13

    Definitely yes, this is what I do too. And people complain about perfect parry scaling, which i think they just dont understand the point of it. You are getting a heck load of reward on the perfect parry, being able to negate all damage taken, drive taken, and given the turn immediately to set up whatever you want. And a lot of the times perfect parry is not that hard to do in specific set ups because of fixed timing. Things like reacting to Honda headbutt, or just very common meaty wake ups? Learn the perfect parry timing and your opponent start to doubt their advantage the next time. Its crazy powerful, and i'd argue the scaling isn't harsh enough in that sense.

    • @rooflemonger
      @rooflemonger  Год назад +2

      well the answer is right there, its consistency. Climbing the ranks means for the most part a positive win %, and you get that by being consistent. That means being able to handle rushdown and silliness. There is no magic quick answer for that. Playing more games, and becoming more comfortable in situations is what will win you those games. If rushdown ken ran all over you, a lot of the time its because you let them by hitting buttons when you shouldn't etc etc. Recognizing situations for what they are and acting appropriately is a big part of the battle. Watching your own replays can be a very good help with that, you will learn a lot more from watching a match where you lost than one where you win. Take a gander on why exactly you lost, which exchanges didn't go in your favour, thats the kinda stuff you need to improve on.

      @@ThePlasticBowl The thing is, going for perfect parry has a low risk because most of the time you just get a normal parry (unless you are late) which is just a better block. This is not SF3 where parrying comes with the risks of not blocking. Because of that you can think of perfect parry's as "free" bonus attacks that kind of breaks the game's builtin assumptions of what is and isn't safe, and therefore the scaling feels perfectly fine to me.
