    So SF6 has been out for a week and change now, and Drive Impact still has some people up in their feelings. We all know that "oh just DI back the DI" is sometimes not as easy as it seems, so in this video let me walk you through a lot of concepts of beating Drive Impact, from the basics, to some more advanced theory!       You forgot to mention that Gray Life can kill you, so if you are not having enough life left, countering a Drive Impact with a Drive Impact, you are going to lose. So basically, you can SPAM Drive Impact if your opponent could be chipped out.

      Reacting to it is usually less a matter of raw reactions, and more anticipation. Once you start looking for it, it becomes easier to react to. Like in the corner? Thats probably when you should start looking out

    I think one of the biggest reasons it's catching me out at the minute is that you've never been punished so heavily for blocking an attack in the corner before and focus attacks were a lot easier to break with dedicated specials in SFIV. Losing 40% HP for blocking a move near the wall, sometimes even quite far out seems.. unnatural and weird.

    Yeah... The one mechanic that I really don't like in SF6 is the corner Drive Impact... You BLOCK one attack at the corner (or even quite a bit far from it) and you lose almost half your life. That's pretty absurd IMO.

      Its the name of the game designed to punish complacency. Myself back in the SF4 days I would down back all day long and nobody could stop me, this is basically designed to stop that style of play lol

      GG Strive is even worse, you get pinned in the corner by a lot or regular atacks and besides the damage, the opponent also gets a boost on the special meter and better position on the screen change

    Theres an interesting interaction with DI and fireballs. From supercombo: "Against projectiles, there are 6 frames of armor hit-freeze that slow down your Drive Impact without affect the opponent's recovery." Because of this I've seen DIs that were activated at different times clash because a fireball slowed one down.

    I learned that the easiest way to beat a DI on reaction is pressing any two buttons of the same strength. Throws, parry and late DI will save you from your opponent.

    I try to grab them if I'm burned out in the corner and feel like they are fishing for a DI. OK so I thought I was crazy when it felt like DI lasted longer when you get some hits in first. Nice.
    I love the DI mechanic. It feels so great to counter. I usually feel like it's my fault and I wasn't paying attention when I get hit by it. Fun to watch in high level too because it's rare and usually hype.

    For me it depends how aggressive they are with drive impact... like if they do it all the time then i can just predict it and use drive impact back. But your video have given me other options to counter it so cheers! :D

    Maybe I haven't heard it as much or even at all really, but I'm glad and SHOCKED that I haven't heard the word "nerf" being thrown around like it was in SFV. Finally, we can just get good at certain things instead of complaining. If you grew up playing MvC2 like I did, you know exactly what I mean.

    I had a blanka in the corner and went for DI on his wakeup. Idk if it's character specific but he did slide and low profiled and beat it.

    I think it’s also important to add that these long non-cancellable pokes are still good. Just not neutral footsies tools. They should be used as whiff punishes instead

    I'm actually starting to react to it and I've never been happier lmao. it feels good every time, they really nailed that.
    edit - manon's standing hp has the same issue as chun's, and in fact has an extra weird negative where if you could recover in time but mash DI too -fast-, you will get her 5hp~5hp target combo noooooo haha. it's a minor annoyances but I actually find these interactions cool ultimately so I won't complain.
    edit 2 - but her 5hp is super cancelable! thanks for bringing that to the front of my brain!

    Great video! ONLY THING YOU COULD IMPROVE THE VIDEO WITH: You should have turned on the frame options that flash moves red when they are sp. cancel, and blue when they are super cancellable. It's an option in training to find what moves you can do that with. Super valuable. Thanks for the tips!

    I've been having trouble playing Chun because I keep using a lot of her long range pokes in neutral and I get smoked by DI, since down here in Silver/Gold people spam that stuff like no tomorrow

    I just really suck at reacting fast enough. But at least it's POSSIBLE, unlike cancelling someone's grab, which essentially has to be predicted in advance rather than actually seeing it and then rejecting it

    Let's not forget Drive Parry. If you parry a DI, you won't get sent backwards like if you block it, opening up options for you.

    For Chun players I find that going into stance after standing Hp allows you to Di back in some situations as you can combo off S.Hp using stance buttons. It's pretty tricky however

    Great video man, I also just want to mention that it is a viable option to parry in the corner against some checkmate scenarios (assuming you're not in burnout). I ended so many rounds just by doing meaty standing HP xx drive impact and killing with the wall splat just because the opponent chose to do regular block instead of parrying. Of course parrying carries the risk of losing to a throw but it is a viable option against drive impact in the corner. Just wanted to mention that since it wasn't mentioned in the video otherwise great video as always and very informative!

    As always great video. Simply the best fighting game channel on youtube, simple as that. As a Gief main since sf2 i really struggle with deive impact. The character is really weak against it. Personnally i think that deive impact is a cool mechanic but not great as it is now. It has pratically no use at high level because pro have the reflex to react and know how to deal with and for intermediate and beginner it's nightmare witch feels unfair and really frustrate people. It's weird for a game that want to initiate so much people and be really beginner friendly to have a some kind of cheat buttons for them. Then there's lot's of character witch are "bad" because of the drive impact. Personnaly i think that make every normal move cancelable with drive impact a good idea. It will still be usable but you can always react. So if you take one you could have done something.

    My biggest problem is moving my hand to hit HP and HK at the same time on arcade stick, my brain is hard wired for that to be V Trigger and that was never something I had to do on reaction so it's messing me up lol

    The main reason I suck against DI is im just not used to playing with and against a universal "F you" button from neutral. DI doesnt exist in MK.
    It existed in SC6 but thats 3D and much easier to avoid
    Power Crushes from Tekken are the closest thing but they lose to lows

    Also one thing to keep in mind, not every multi hit normal is cancelable on every hit, forward HP with juri is cancelable on first and second hit but say neutral MK is only cancelable on the first hit be careful about this =), i also love to grab ppl in the startup of the drive impact, so enjoyable :p

    After being able to get my hands on the game, I actually think the Drive Impact is a cool mechanic. It's dangerously powerful, but also has powerful counterplay that can punish players for getting too predictable with it. I still need to practice reacting to them more consistently. I think it's cool to explore options to work around it, especially in burnout state.
    Zangief's stand HP is screwed against reactionary DIs, but since it armors at frame 4, it can be used to beat DI without drive (provided there's enough gap for it.)

    I use JP so I try to use Amnesia as much as I can against Drive Impact. It is not optimal, but it get you out of the corner and seems easier to react than hitting Drive Impact. It is the one thing I definitely needs to get better at.

    I have a feeling the damage scaling of drive impact will be nerfed in the future.
    Remember when SF5 came out and crush counters and Vtrigger activations had no scaling? That was messed up.
