    I love every era of Rainbow. One of my favorite bands. Of course, this was Ritchie Blackmore's band (original guitarist from Deep Purple). He called all the shots. Heavier Rainbow songs from the Dio era: Stargazer, Kill the King, Tarot Woman, Sixteenth Century Greensleeves. There are more, of course. Dio left because Ritchie wanted to move to a more radio friendly style. Ritchie succeeded, and so did Dio by being the replacement for Ozzy in Sabbath. Other good songs with Graham Bonnet: All Night Long, Lost in Hollywood. More great songs with Joe: 'Death Alley Driver' is faster and heavier. Other good ones are: I Surrender, Miss Mistreated, Can't Let You Go, Jealous Lover, Desperate Heart, Street of Dreams.

    • @headlibrarian1996
      @headlibrarian1996 Год назад

      And then Sabbath fired Dio two years later :(. They managed to push out Ray Gillen after only a few months too, and re-recorded his tracks. Given what I've heard on the Badlands albums he would have been far superior to Tony Martin, though I suppose he would have been forced to leave the band anyway due to the health issues that eventually killed him. So dysfunctional on the part of Sabbath.

    A nice power ballad with all pyrotecnics coming from Ritchie`s guitar and of course, the blasting snare/ hi hat/ bass drum patterns with Bobby Rondinelli. Sounds like Deep Purple in some cases, speaking about the guitar riffs and solo work. Another Purple musician here, the one and only Mr Roger Glover. There`s nothing left to say, guys.

The song "Ariel" is great song from his vocal era with Rainbow. My favorite era will remain with Ronnie James Dio on vocals with songs like "Stargazer" (in my opinion their very best song), "Catch the Rainbow" and "Temple of the King" being other epic songs. Rainbow tried to adjust to the sound of the 80s hard rock stars in that decade, which I honestly think they did succesfully, and for that purpose a couple of new singers with that style were hired. Besides, there was this guy, Russell Ballard who composed quite an array of hits of which Rainbow got great benefit with tunes like: ’Since You’ve Been Gone' and 'I Surrender'. Great songs! ... BTW, Kiss's Ace Frehley also had his Ballard moment with "New York Groove", also worth checking out

He also had a couple of hits in the 60s in a duo called The Marbles, both songs were written for them by none other than The Bee Gees, the songs were, Only One Woman and The Walls Fell Down. Graham Bonnet was just starting out his long singing career then with and amazing voice. Worth a listen to as well.

    Saw them in concert for this tour. Great line up. They sounded great LIVE. MTV used to show a LIVE concert of this tour years ago too. Ritchie Blackmore - guitar & Roger Glover - bass, are both from Deep Purple.

    Richie Blackmore right up there with the all time great guitarists though he doesn't get the same loving as many...Rainbow always had great vocalists and they were bold enough to not replace same with same .. They all had their own style and vocals

      Where do you live? I'm only asking because in Europe and Japan, Ritchie (note the spelling) is one of the most famous guitar players who ever existed. It's only in the US that this is not the case. By European standards, it's probably just Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton that supercedes him in fame and influence. Eddie Van Halen is maybe, but not definitely, up there alongside him and someone like Jimmy Page is not even a blip on the radar in comparison.

      @@erikthompson619 Was originally from the UK so grew up with the "British metal scene". My comment more directed to those top guitar lists you see which mostly seem to bypass Blackmore for guitarists from other more "trendy" rock bands. Guess a lot of those lists are American generated and by younger people. While guitarists on those lists certainly merit praise few have Blackmores distinctive style and blues/classical influences. Interestingly though readers of "Guitar world" had two of Blackmores solos (while with Deep Purple) among the 100 Greatest Guitar Solos of all time. ("Highway Star" ranked 19th, and "Lazy" ranked 74th). "Guitar" magazine also ranked at 16 his solo on "Child in Time" in a 1998 Guitarist magazine readers poll of Top 100 Guitar Solos of All-Time.

    Joe Lynn Turner has perfect 80's feathered hair with the part down the middle that was a bit leftover from the 70's and working its 80's magic into the mix.
