Billy was never a spoilt brat, grew up in a poor family, his dad had to sell his guitar to put food on the table, & Billy bought it back years later to return it to his dad. (Its here on YT.) Just look how Billy's career has gone stellar.

Knowing the story of the Martin and the fact that his dad was willing to sacrifice something so dear to him to keep his family safe and warm makes moments like this even sweeter.
Also knowing the nearly impossible coincidences and circumstances that brought the Martin home and what Billy was willing to do to get it back... There is just no way that these two souls haven’t met and loved one another before.

He frequently played in the Walnut Valley festival in Winfield when he was younger and we had always talked about doing it together, but unfortunately, I never got the honor. I'm 45 and never known who my father was, seeing Billy gift his father a new guitar was magical, most stars leave their family and friends by the wayside, but that relationship right there is pretty special. I think Billy idolised his Dad growing up, and learnt the guitar as a way of communicating with him, music is a language that everybody can talk.

I'm an awful teacher. I've been trying to teach my son to play, but I think I can be a little mean. I don't remember how long it took me to actually be able to contort my fingers into a G chord, but I lose patients when my son can't get it immediately. I hope I'm not scaring him off of everything I love because he isnt proficient immediately. Step one is identifing the problem, so at least I have that going for me.

Good job billy. That look on your father's face when he saw it was the first one was everything. He'll never forget that.

My dad passed when I was 19 and I can assure you that giving gifts to important people stay with you longer than receiving them. This is nice.

I really feel privileged to have seen this moment the day after it happened. I've been playing for nearly 70 years but Billy has taught me there's a whole new world of playing out there and I love watching it.

It is so nice to see a son be so good to his Dad. You're a good man Billy. Not everyone has that type of character. Your Dad raised you right. Blessings to you both.

As a guitar player who is the only musician in my family, I so admire and envy you Billy.
For one thing I was never as close to my dad as you obviously are to yours and the fact that you both are great guitar players makes it even better.
I would love to have spent time with you and your family. I can imagine the holidays would be music all day long and well into the night.
Oh, I should also mention that I never liked bluegrass growing up in fact I never liked it at all until I heard you on RUclips for the first time a couple years ago.
Many thanks to you and your dad for sharing your gift of music and a small glimpse into your life. What a joy, thank you so much.
