      probaly not but you can do some research since genshin is a game created and belonging to a chinese company

      @@Zero-vs3dz i think it is since Xiao's burst line in cn is 靖妖傩舞, with 傩舞 being the nuo dance, and his mask is a direct reference of the nuo mask

    I wonder if Nuo inspired japanese Noh? Noh is obviously more of a story telling theatre experience, and not so much a spiritual thing. But i can see a similarity.

      Noh theatre might have inspiration from it. But it mostly inspired Shinto. You can see some of the last few Shinto shrines that practice this ritual that came from China.

      Like many old practices, it’s just a superstition and it’s probably just practiced now to keep the culture alive

    Drives away evil spirits and stuff? I can see it doing that. That is straight-up nightmare fuel. If I were the Christian devil himself, I'd take one look at that dance and be like, "Nope. I'm good. Won't be tempting that village over there. I'll go find me a nice priest to tempt."

    Sounds like The Theyyam, but I believe that after reaching some spiritual consciousness it's possibile to commit such acts.

      Different story with theyyam, they dress this way to please the gods, sometimes becoming a medium for the gods to enjoy offerings on earth, or give blessings.

    Actually some of the performer or dancer will be posses when in the heat of the performance.
    From there, they will feel no pain when doing all the stunt, but still need to be cautious, bcs not all Spirit that invited is good one, but experiance shaman and witch doctor will know how to bar away bad spirits and stuff.
    Its Amaze me almost every where around the world also have this kind of ceremony regarding paying respect to Spirits and Gods.
