This dance is about Princess Anle, who was very well known for her beauty and dramatic life. This song tells the ups and downs of her short life over a 1000 years ago in Tang dynasty. She was the youngest daughter of Emperor Zhongzong and his wife Empress Wei. And she was doted upon heavily by her parents, which contributed to her later drive for power. After gaining power, she became extremely arrogant, corrupt, and extravagant, and ruled China with her mother Empress Wei , the corruption of the two almost pushed the administration of Emperor Zhongzong to the brink of bankruptcy. Eventually, after Emperor Zhongzong died, Empress Wei seized the throne and elevated Anle to the position of crown princess. One month later, a coup led by Anle's cousin Li Longji, the Prince of Linzi, overthrew and killed Empress Wei and Anle. "Anle 安乐", literally means Peace and Happiness, of which her parents hoped for her life to be, yet she was killed at age 25, how ironic it is. After all she was just a spoiled child.
I wonder how much of that story is the actual truth and how much is fabricated by the cousin and his ministers to justify his coup and to make sure patriachy remains ontop. Anle and her mother should have pushed to have female ministers in places of power in court during their reign. If women then tasted power and able to abandon the shackles of patriachy how many would be willing to go back to the days of backyard intrigues and harem fights for a man that considers them nothing more than tools? If Anle's rule meant more freedom for women they would have fought the cousin to hell and back. I'm sure even his wife would have poisoned him if it meant she and her daughters didn't have to go back to the days of fighting concubines and can live independently. As long as men were the dominant force, it wouldn't matter if she was the greatest monarch in Chinese history, she'd still have lost. Victory is written by the victors after all.
i did classical chinese dance for 7 years before i moved overseas, and it's been so difficult trying to embrace my culture since, especially in the last few years. finding this video and seeing everyone's appreciation is doing more to help me reconnect with my culture and be proud of it than anything else has ever had :') 感动得都要哭了 ♡

Chinese art are very underrated imo, we are a lucky generation who can access other cultures through Internet so easily, imagine a life without seeing these beautiful cultural dances, customs and musics of other nations , we would've miss so much pleasure of life

I'm not that fond of culture otherwise, but Asian like Chinese, Japan and Korea even though S.Korea has fallen under my radar. x)
The open Tang Dynasty gave women a lot of power, so there were princesses who could participate in politics. It's rare to see in Chinese history. Therefore, the princesses of the Tang Dynasty were very different compared with some princesses in the former Danasties. 🔻Princess Pingyang (平阳公主) was the only princess who was buried with military ceremonies in history. She was good at military tactics. 🔻Princess Jinyang (晋阳公主) was the only princess in history who was raised by the emperor himself. 🔻Princess Taiping (太平公主) was an ambitious women who almost became the 2th Wu Zetian in history and had great power. Btw, Wu Zetian, born in the Tang Danasty, is the only female emperor in Chinese history. 🔻Princess Anle (安乐公主) was also an ambitious women who was eventually killed in a coup. This video is based on her stories.

i remembered in our Chinese new year event in our school in Philippines, 2 students sang this and i could confirm, one of the best experiences i will never forget in my life.

I am from india but i really love traditional chinese dances, i first experienced it genshin impact during yun jins opera and i got curious after that, i really love how the movements feel like swift as water, and the dresses make it even better
I love how this video captures and conveys emotion. Tang conveys emotion and sorrow through her facial expressions. And I love how the fabric/clothes are used to swish around. And the scenes of snow are beautiful. As well as the incredible song and how high pitched the voice can get. I really think this captures the Princess' life and how much sorrow she felt when her dreams were not fulfilled and she was left isolated. I think everything about this is perfect.
