    Your rose garden is beautiful and inspiring for many rose lovers, Ken. I have several DA roses and some Kordes roses, in our small garden, here in Berkshire. Most of them are planted in large pots. I hope to add few more roses next spring 24, mainly from Kordes and Meilland. How do control aphids and blackspots on your roses. Thank you sharing this beautiful video of lovely roses.

    • @kenvoong5977
      @kenvoong5977  8 месяцев назад

      Hi Raj, thanks for tuning in, I have added quite a few kordes , Meiland and tantau to my collection for this coming rose season. Like you lots of my roses are also in pots. I’m now starting to introduce myself to more of other breeders as da doesn’t really have what I want( a little late) . As beautiful as Da roses are, their blooms doesn’t seems to last as long as kordes or Meiland.
      Aphids are everyone’s problem especially in uk. I use just use my fingers and aphids spray. As for black spots , it’s was common last year due to the wet and damp weather we had in uk. I try and pluck the infected leaves off or use rose clear. Can’t wait for for our rose season . Waiting patiently for our roses to bloom again . Best of luck with yours.

    • @Raj-hk5hg
      @Raj-hk5hg 8 месяцев назад

      Ken, very true the wet weather in UK is not helpful to control blackspots on roses. I plan to try periodic Sulphur Rose spray, this coming season, on selected roses which get most effected by blackspots. Sulphur R is considered natural enemy of blackspots & powerdry mildew. Of course, enough plant gap and a thin rose bush also helps.

    • @kenvoong5977
      @kenvoong5977  8 месяцев назад

      @@Raj-hk5hg yes sulphur R is a good option which I tend to use myself, hopefully we won’t need this too often this year

    I have 28 David Austin Roses , but only started this summer and totally addicted. Enjoyed seeing your Roses . There are 700 roses I think 🤔.

      @kenvoong5977  9 месяцев назад

      Hi Tesla, 😂 yeah I totally agree with you, this addiction doesn’t seems to stop. Problem I have is I tend to buy multiple of ones I really like and I don’t have an inch in my garden left. I much prefer to stick with one breeder but have added a few non Da for next year.
      Honestly I really lost count but definitely nowhere near 700. I would if I had the space and time though

    Hi Ken, you’ve got such an amazing collection of beautiful roses, they’re stunning and so healthy, well done! Your Olivia rose Austin is incredible, mine is 3 years old and in the ground in an east facing garden, she grows big and healthy but the flower heads nod and never look upright like yours, I’m in the UK, any advice?

    • @kenvoong5977
      @kenvoong5977  10 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you Netta , I’m quite a novice myself. But what I lack in experience, I have in passion. I’m not sure why yours Olivia’s nodding. My guess would be it’s not mature enough even though it’s 3 years old, and likely not is enough sun ☀️. I know she loves sunshine and mines gets full sun.

    I'm having a hard time choosing between Lady of Shalot or Roald Dahl to add to my garden. Any suggestions on why I should choose one over the other? Thank you for sharing your beautiful roses!

    • @kenvoong5977
      @kenvoong5977  Год назад +2

      Lady shallots is a tall and vigorous rose with light scent. Roald Dahl would be my choice if I were to pick 1. RD has a more compact growth , and the flowers last much longer which for me is important.

      @@christinesmyth5491 Ask me in a couple of months and I might be more decisive. My Desdemona (first summer last year) was a rose whose appearance I found hypnotic and I literally stared at it for minutes on end, its flowers were so beautiful in colour and shape, and the shrub was vigorous and free-flowering, and had a very nice perfume. This year's weather has not been kind to it so far and the size, number and shape of blooms has been disappointing. My Tranquillity (first summer this year) is looking much bushier and with healthier leaves and lots of buds now, but I don't find the flower shape as arresting and it has less scent. I've had a very wet and not very warm July this year, so I am hoping that with warmth and sun the second flush of both these will put on a better showing, but not much to be seen in terms of flowers at the moment.

    zepherine hates to be across the walls, she loves air being all over her, arches are the best for her and she loves lots of liquid feeds, every rose is individuality with different liks and dislikes about position/sun/food as we all know.

    • @kenvoong5977
      @kenvoong5977  3 месяца назад +1

      Hi holly, never thought much of zepherine drouhin as she wasn’t a good grower for me. Perhaps like you said the position didn’t suit her as it was over crowded. Maybe if I’d given enough care and attention her fate would have been different. I have now moved it to a forgotten area left to defend herself.

      @@kenvoong5977 I bought one this year, only because it was giving amazing blooms for my friends in Lancashire, they did advised me not to bring her close to any walls or fences unless I have a fountain near by as she loves air, water and her liquid feeds, she was one of the best climbers I have ever seen! I potted her for now, we shall see what she will be like during her first summer.

      Tranquility It’s alright . Upright growth . Tidy plant . Flowers open vanilla cream and medium scent. The flowers look just like Emily Brontë. Destemona is is more fragrant and bushy. Her flowers are like Claire Austin and dannahue, quite loose. So it’s very self preference. But not many can beat destemona for abundance of flowers
