FAA time. The whole system only works with mutual respect. This pilot needs to learn some humility and fast, before he breaks something or injures/kills someone.
That pilots attitude will eventually kill someone. Maybe next time, he should follow instructions and not just taxi anywhere he wants with no clearance...
In my experience, ATC is frequently the one with the really shitty attitude, but in this case it was ALL on the pilot. What an absolute disgrace to aviation. He did everything incorrect, then had the attitude of a spoiled 5 year old. Hope that phone call was a bit of a wake up call for him.
That is your experience, or what you perceive from fear of being scolded? It is relatively rare that I hear a controller bark about something that isn't deserved from a pilots actions or attitude.
@@jaylasky4313 I'm not quite sure what you mean by "perceived fear of being scolded", but, I mean from experience. Perhaps I could clarify.. In times where I have heard (or been a part of), disagreements between ATC and pilots over the air, ATC seems to be the one more frequently in the wrong (in my opinion), and more condescending. However, I've heard far more pilots screwing up than air traffic controllers, obviously. Although, I have heard plenty of both. After all, we're human.

The controller could have just stopped him, make him do the 180, and then go all the way around. Then it would've been a pilot deviation if he failed to comply. But ATC could've been too busy for reindeer games. Tower did a good job on this.

Wow! What's the pilots issue! I've messed up taxi instructions before and got called over frequency by ATC. I apologized for the missed communication and noted the instructions she gave me. No big deal. Shit happens.
Pilot sounds like he is or has been a radar ATCer. "Why can't you read my mind? Everyone else does." What a moment of misery visiting everyone in his path.
Large part of the current problem with this is pilots are now noticing the FAA does exactly jack and shit nowadays regarding anything GA... why bother to NOT act like an asshole when you can all the time & nothing happens? Why bother to actually EXAMINE people on checkrides when you can be lazy & still get paid? This started about 11 years ago, not 100% sure why.
1. Do not change to ground until the tower tells you to turn to ground. 2. Exit where they tell you to exit. 3. Don’t waste time arguing because other pilots need ATC attention.

Way off. Sounds like a spoiled 20 something who has no respect for the responsibility of being a pilot. Old guys can be stubborn but not punkass mouthy like this guy. Needs punched in the face.
What are these "phone calls" that I see coming up in the videos every now and then? Is it to debrief on what happened offline from ATC radio frequencies?
@@2dollarbill3 I've seen some vids that explain that it gives ATC a chance to get more of the story, and the result might be that it just becomes a finger waving instead of FAA formal action. But this guy would not be helping himself to call. I suspect he wouldn't, and then he's looking at FAA action, clearly.
Often it comes a "possible pilot deviation" first. Which basically means the controller thinks you didn't follow instructions. And then you are given a number so they can deal with it of frequency. There is no point of holding up a frequency for an argument. In this case I assume they are just going to tell him how things are suppose to work and to not be an asshole...
It is for a possible pilot deviation. Basically the controller is saying that they are going to report the incident to the FAA, the FAA when then choose to investigate and if a pilot deviation is found they can issue correction as they see fit. The reason you get a phone number is because ATC frequencies are still on a party line, so getting the pilots info and all conversations would be both broadcast to everyone on frequency and block anyone from using it. The FAA can choose not to investigate. If they investigate they can choose not to take a corrective measure. Corrective measures can be from a conversation, to required flight training, to pulling your certificate.
The phone number is the tower's phone number that is recorded and being told to call the tower can be the first step in a "certificate action" which would be like a traffic ticket except a fine is pretty much unheard of but a black mark on your record and a license suspension or a suspension pending additional training is more common. If you are humble and admit you made a boo boo often times you just get a talking to and a slap on the wrist with no black mark. The pilot wasn't give the equivalent of a Miranda warning (in FAA land it is called a Brasher warning) when the controller asked him to call him so it is probably just something they they wanted to take off the radio so it doesn't block up the radio with the back and forth. The video was cut off but if a pilot says he isn't going to call, I would imagine it would be upgraded to a "Brasher" and a certificate action.
Yes, calling them is generally the polite thing to do but isn't mandatory. The FAA can proceed with whatever next step(s) they want to whether you call them or not.
Not an FAA facility. The controllers at Lakeland are contract controllers. Now of course, this controller can make a complaint to the FAA about his behavior but it'll take some time for it to be assigned to someone in compliance.
Controller needed to get airport security, or police, to meet the aircraft, get the pilots information, and file an FAA report. Hopefully remedial training or a suspension is given.
So the guy in the back seat of his plane takes precedence over the direction of ATC...perfectly understandable...I have NO idea why ATC has a problem....rofl
Not exactly, ATC cleared him to taxi to Juliet, he instead took another route and taxied on Golf (where there might be personnel or other issues, and ATC needs to know where you are going). When tower asked him why he was going a different way, he replied "the guy in the backseat told me that I need to go this way to go to my favorite FBO, so I decided to not let you know, to ignore your instructions, and to taxi where you did not clear me. Oh, and by the way I decided that you weren't even worth letting you know and ask for a clearance to this other taxiway, you should have read my mind".
Just do what ATC tells you to do. Go to ground when they tell you. Taxi where they tell you. It's not that difficult. (unless you're an arrogant moron!)
Fragile little ego, this guy is probably so much fun to be around

These are the kind of pilots I try to stay as far away from as I can -both on the ground and in the air. Good job Controller.
“I’m not calling you” is on tape. That’s all the controller will need when he calls the FAA…
Hey! Who gave my ex-wife a deep voice and a pilot’s license???
Never been so happy to hear someone have to copy a phone number !
How to turn "My apologies ground, sorry about that." into "Certificate action? What do you mean certificate action?!"
