Just tried this recipe! My mom loved my tortillas 😭😭 as someone who's parents are reluctant to teach things two or 3 times this recipe sure saved me! Thank you.
I’ve made this recipe at least 6 times now. They taste exactly like my childhood tortillas my grandma and aunts used to make. Thank you so much. I never knew they were this easy. I hope you find yourself well.
@@boppitybippitybop1829 Good to know .even if I'm not muslim.I feel the same way ...always have.call it a preference or something else. Just can't won't do the lard , or the pork. My mom was the same way.Thank you for the recipe helps.
I did everything I was supposed to. I don’t understand why my tortillas always come out hard and it’s so easy. When you did it can you give me any suggestions?
How long can you keep the uncooked dough? Can you like make 2 or 3 tortillas a day from the same dough until you use it up? What’s the best way to store raw dough? That’s a really fabulous recipe! Definitely going to try it.
Honestly, I always make the whole batch! I have never left the dough raw. Maybe I need to test it out and see how many days it would last wrapped in plastic in the fridge. Sorry! I really appreciate you watching the video!
We put the dough in an airtight container and store it in the fridge. We use it within 3 to 4 days and although the dough keeps for a week too but it starts to ferment and smell like sourdough. It is usable still but the tortilla will taste a little sour. This is breakfast almost everyday in India.
Crazy how out of all the videos I could've watched, I'm glad I cam across this one.. made my first ever batch of tacos and used your recipe.. I knew it was a hit because before I tasted the Taco shell, it was sold out. And still now, I still don't know what it taste like haha.. Will do this Sunday.. gracias..
I forgotten about the Lard. I have not seen people using that stuff since the 60-80’s lol. I definitely never used it and I don’t even use the shortening.
thank you I'd been looking for tortilla w/o lard recipe I will try this tomorrow for our breakfast I subscribed the moment I watched your vlog. first time watching your vlog
Im currently pregnant and dying for breakfast burritos but i wasnt able to get any in my grocery order. Last time i tried making some tortillas at home i couldnt roll them thin enough, they would keep shrinking back down, and they turned out more like a flatbread but the inside was very gooey. Im thinking i missed the resting step or may have needed a longer rest. Will definitely give this recipe a try!
Hi there! Yes it is ok but don't overdo it. If the dough is too dry your tortillas will not be flexible. The stickiness usually goes away after kneading a bit. Thanks!
I made these tonight (in UK) and they were amazing ! I fancied tortillas but when I read the huge list of gross ingredients on the store bought packs... I couldn't face buying them. Your tortillas are melt in the mouth delicious ! I was able to roll them very thin...which I normally find difficult with flat breads... Anyway, thank you so much :) These will be made every week. 😋
I have some refried beans and cheese and I wanted to make quesadillas for tacos but I don’t have any tortillas but I have everything to make them except the lard. These look delicious and I can’t wait to make them. I’m going to just have simple tacos of refried beans cheese with some guacamole. It looks Delicioso. Muchas Gracias
If you do you will need to add more water. Whole wheat flour absorbs more liquid than white flour does. Thank you and I hope they come out perfect for you!
I just made these flour tortillas and they taste so very, very good. I used olive oil this time, but I do intend to make them with avocado oil like you. Thank you very much for this recipe. Also, it was so much fun making them. You give excellent instructions.
I like a cook that uses grams in a recipe, you can’t go wrong with that. A cup of flower can be 130 to 160 grams depending on how packed or sifted it is. this is the reason a recipe can turn out good or bad.
You are so lovely. I usually don’t comment on videos but watching this video is just so relaxing. Thank you for sharing this video and I will follow this recipe. :)
I have tried 3 times. If you fry them it turns into fry bread if you don't its a tortilla. if you leave thick and cut in circles it is biscuits. I have not been successful with fry bread or tortillas . sticky fingers annoy me. But I love tortillas and desperately need to be successful with this
Wow, thank you so much, this will help me a lots, you are an amazing Chef, Chef, great channel and website I will highly recommend with my love cooking friends
I don’t use tortillas as often as I’d like to, about how many tortillas does this recipe make? I’m thinking to just half the recipe and see where that gets me.
Hi Sabrina! You will not be able to substitute the baking powder for baking soda in this recipe because you have no acidity to activate it (buttermilk, yogurt, lemon juice, etc). It will not work. Thanks for watching the video!
@@Thefrugalchef Thank you! 😁 I just made tortillas following the instructions on your video. I love how they contain oil and not lard or butter; this makes them healthier. They are very easy to make and very delicious. And in the middle of my eating the tortillas, I remembered to comment on here, to thank you. I am totally going to recommend my friends check out your channel. 😁👍
I have never done so but I don't see why not. Remember that whole wheat does require more liquid than white flour so you will need to adjust the amount. Hope they come out perfect for you! Thanks!
Hi Ben! Did these work out in the end? Sometimes the humidity in the kitchen make the flour work differently. I also find that letting the dough rest -- even if you made the balls when they were a little sticky -- the dough tends to 'dry up' a bit. I am sorry this didn't work out perfectly for you on the first try. Thanks!
@@Thefrugalchef added more flour, but it did not really work to roll out. i pressed it between parchmentpaper and a pot. They came out pretty thick and contracted in the pan, so i could not roll anything in it. I guess i overworked the dough. High humidity is very possible, we have pretty much rain at the moment
Sorry they did not work! Sounds like the gluten was not relaxed and the dough was contracting. I agree. You probably worked the dough too much. Hopefully you give them a second chance. Thanks Benjamin!

an adequate amount of baking powder should ALWAYS be used to avoid the tortilla looking RAW and not cooked.

I rewatch whenever i make them. I know its a simple recipe but i know ill mess it up if i dont. Cause i normally wing it when i come to cooking 😅
Is it okay to keep adding flour to the dough while kneading? Just to make it stop from sticking to my hands and board?

I don’t know if I’m not kneading right but I’ve been kneading for a while (over 5 minutes) and the dough seem like it’s tearing.
Sorry for the delay. I suspect you need a little more liquid. Sometimes different flours act differently. We you able to resolve this?
