I have been trying to make descent tortillas for years with mild success. I followed your recipe to the letter. I made them for my granddaughter who loves tortillas. She has been sick with Covid this passed week and not feel like eating that much. After I took them over to her, she texted me "Grandpa Ron these are so good. They're like melting in my mouth. I love your tortillas so much, thank you". Thank you Villa you made my day!

When i watched my mom and grandma make tortillas i never knew they had so many ingredients they learned from their own mothers. We didnt have RUclips back in the 70s and they barely had phones in the 50s. So these recipes have been passed down from generation to generation. Amazing how Mexican culture stays strong.

I love this video. My mom is estranged from my grandma, and so how to make tortillas was never passed down in my family. I hear all these cute stories about women cooking tortillas with their mom and grandmother and aunts and it makes me sad that I didn’t have that. I kept trying and failing to make tortillas on my own and felt each failure personally, feeling like my Mexican roots were just out of reach. I kept trying though, and I’m so glad to have found this video, for the first time i made delicious tortillas!

My grandma made me home made refried beans and homemade tortillas everyday growing up and several times I try to learn how to make her flower tortillas but she never used any type of measuring cups or anything and she passed away almost twenty years a go and ai have not had any homemade flour tortilla scents. I have tried making them several times but I never knew what measurements to use of anything and I've now learned my two biggest mistakes I was making was not using warm water and not working the dough long enough so thank you for giving me back a piece of my childhood. On rare occasions my grandmother would make these gorditas which were basically little balls made out of the flower tortilla recipe that I think she would fry afterwards and then fill up with beans, cheese and what ever else the person eating them wanted. If you know what I'm talking about, I would love to see a video on how to make them because no one seems to know what a gordita is except that it's something from Taco Bell

Tried many different recipes with some good results. Used this recipe and process twice, and both times produced EXCELLENT RESULTS! The best flour tortillas ever. I followed the measures and instructions on the video exactly. The only changes were: 1) I used Crisco butter flavored vegetable shortening along with the butter. 2) Weighed the flour, to ensure dough consistency use 13.5 ounces of flour (which is 3 cups @ 4.5 ounces per cup). 3) I let the dough balls rest for 2 hours - just because it's convenient. Very happy with this new go-to recipe, thank you!!

This is a great recipe !!! I like that no lard is used so these feel lighter to me!! The key ladies is how thin she gets them to avoid that biscuit of flatbread texture . If you aren’t as good doing the pulling technique I suggest using a tortilla press to get it like 80% there then using a rolling pin for the last bit of stretching .

Those are probably the best flour tortilllas I've ever seen on youtube!
You're so right about shaping them being a talent. It's something you just can't teach, you can only just keep trying and and somehow you get better at it over, well, quite a few attempts but couldn't tell anyone how. For me I didn't even get them to bubble and puff until I'd made them about 5 times, and then after they always did - it's just something that is. Oh, having the pan too low so they kinda dry out was a mistake I made for a while, too.
You've got some of the ingredients in grams in the description and I think if you also did the flour additionally in grams you'd likely get more views and shares from European viewers, especially in your wonderful plain flour bread video. We/they're very resistant to cups as a measurement so would click away rather than do any conversions.
Thanks so much for the video - can't wait for more.

I have been having trouble with them not cooking in spots.. (spinach version). If I increase my heat a little the spots get too dark before I flip them. A little less heat & they cook too long becoming drier.... Any help??? 🥰

When I was growing up my Grandmother used to make me fresh baked bread and I loved it. After growing up and getting married to a Latina, I now get home made tortillas and I love them, the same way I used to love Grandmothers bread. I'm going to show my wife this recipe and see what she thinks. I may get in trouble...

I’ve felt so discouraged and intimidated to make tortillas. The last two batches weren’t to my liking until I came across your video. Omg they were a hit! Thank you so much. It was enjoyable and fun. ☺️

I learned how to make tortillas from my Mom, and learned from her Mom. I was in 6 or 7th grade when my Mom went to work so it was my job to make them. I made the sobaqueras outside on a special comal that my Dad made for making them. That is until my Grandfather's bull ran it over. Now I make the small ones inside on a cast iron griddle. I just add as much flour as I want. Measure the salt in my hand, scoop out the lard with my hand. This is how I learned. They don't last beyond that day with my grandkids, and I usually make 4-5 dozen.
My Grandmother used to make tortillas as a demonstration for the Tumacaori National Monument here in Arizona. She even went to Washington DC to make her tortillas. I inherited the big pot/bowl that she used.

I’d also like a tortilla basket to keep them warm or whatever traditional one you’ve been using ? Much love from Oahu 🌸

I cook a lot but I’ve never made tortillas. I guess today’s the day to try it out. Going to try your recipe. They look like the best ones I’ve seen on RUclips.
