Because the maximum number that can be represented by using 32 bits is 4,294,967,295, this translates to 2.199 TB of capacity by using 512-byte sectors (approximately 2.2 TB). Therefore, a capacity beyond 2.2 TB is not addressable by using the MBR partitioning scheme.
Gotta love 32bit architecture. Though not bad for an arm processor at the time.

32 Bit Windows XP: ~4GB RAM hard cap. (There was still a 64 bit version, but not well known).
iPod classics *apparently* use HFS+ which would have an 8 Exabyte limit (1EB=1 million TB), however I don't think that's the case.
There's no concrete info online about the iPod filesystem, but it's most likely not the HFS+ you see mentioned, where the capacity is 8 Exabytes, i.e. 8 million terabytes. Probably a 2TB limit like FAT32.

Grit is actually a psychological terms when mindset is talked about. "It is the ability to persist in something you feel passionate about and persevere when you face obstacles. This kind of passion is not about intense emotions or infatuation. It’s about having direction and commitment. When you have this kind of passion, you can stay committed to a task that may be difficult or boring.
Grit is also about perseverance. To persevere means to stick with it; to continue working hard even after experiencing difficulty or failure."

Dank Pods' "1 Grit" meme showed up in the most surprising of places last month. A chatter posted a link to a picture of that chunk of concrete during a Twitch stream. It was mr_horologist's stream, a stream about repairing timepieces -- wristwatches, pocket watches and clocks. It is the most chill, laid back and slow paced stream on Twitch, the polar opposite of a Dank Pods video. There's quiet music playing and a camera dedicated to watching an old pocket watch ticking. There's just that level of quietude. And now, thanks to your comment, I hope to remember "grit" when it comes to those wonderful old micro-machines -- their standing the test of time and the level of quiet determination it takes to keep them running. Thanks for that. :-)

    • @MayContainJoe

The following limitations apply to the iPod Classic OS:
512 byte sector size. This probably why two of the SDXC cards don't work. They have a different one.
2^32 logical block address (LBA) limit.

I experienced a similar issue with a 3 TB HDD in one of my old computers. Because of the file system that was being used was a 32 bit build, the Master Boot Record would only allow for a partition of up to 4,294,967,295 sectors of 512 bytes i.e. 2.199 TB. The rest of that HDD was effectively useless because the MBR wouldn't let another partition exist on the same disc. (I was young and didn't know any better, sue me)
The iPod's os is most likely a 32 bit build and therefore has the same size limitation. Combine that with the RAM ceiling you hit and it's pretty definitive that unless someone goes and writes a custom OS for an obsolete technology, that's the bioggest the ol' iPod's getting.

You can deal with the 50 000 music files limit by, idk, putting full albums as 1 file and even putting it in Lossless ALAC/FLAC to fill as much space as you can

I'm guessing the iPod file system is 32 bit so It'll never see anything above 2TB

Came here to say this. It's a limit of 32bit systems. It just can't do more than 2tb ever. True for all 32bit anything. Sony ps2, other mp3 players, windows 98. Etc etc

This guy's reactions to his upgrade struggles make my day every time!!! I love to then see him succeed! I'm going to upgrade my ipod classic because I'm inspired by his awesome tutorials.

Listening to this video with my brand new purple pair of Audio Technicas M50xBT because I was watching the video on how to make everything sound better and I like myself a little bit of bass, so I picked them up. And it has Bluetooth for the heathens at Apple who took the precious headphone jack
Love this channel so much. Probs gonna go over to patreon real quick
