Dankpods was partly the reason why I started to collect and maintain/work on my PSPs. Thank you dude for bringing new life to older electronics that need to be appreciated all over again.
After seeing that absolutly stripped screw on the funeral pod, I just gotta say this: *PLEASE USE JIS SCREWDRIVERS, NOT PHILIPS* JIS is the standard that pretty much all consumer electronics use (if they're not using some other anti-repair nonsense like tri-wing or torx) and the only difference between JIS and philps is that the screw heads are shallower than philips, and the screwdrivers are blunter than philips. Meaning that if you use a philips screwdriver on a JIS screw; the connection will be loose and you're more likely to strip the screw in the attempt to unscrew
The iPod was forever my favorite device, the small but strong iPod I had gave me happiness. My space gray 2019 iPod will forever be in my heart, and so will my first one. Very surprised none of the Nanos have swollen batteries yet since I always keep their brightness levels at ZERO and Cover Flow (among other useless settings) disabled after seeing your helpful vid called "The iPod Nano stinks." or something like that.
Man, I just bought a nano 7 and I've been using it all the time in the car (because I don't like paying monthly for streaming services). Even before I got my first phone, I used an iPod (also a nano 7) to listen to the radio on the bus. I can't believe it's discontinued now. Rest in peace iPod. You did good.
Ah, I remember my first and only iPod. My brother bought me a 20GB 3rd generation iPod for Christmas. I was blown away. I used it for many years, and even as the battery started getting old, I had the thing hooked up to an iHome alarm clock with a dock. (That thing was sweet.) Too bad the iPod crashed more and more as it aged - I couldn't rely on it to wake me up in the morning. 😂 Thanks for the video! Brings back good memories.
I bought one of those touches after your video about it being the new Classic, and it was the first iPod I ever got. I got in towards the end, but I love my iPod - and will keep it up and running as long as I can. Also looking forward to getting a Classic 160 GB. I've never been an Apple kid, but I do understand how it feels when a beloved device gets discontinued. especially if it left that big of an impact and lasted so long.
Literally watching this on my iPod Touch 7th gen. Also, in requiem of the iPod, I shall now recite my many iPods, and their deaths. 1. iPod Nano 2nd gen (died when my dad overcharged it) 2. iPod nano 4th gen (victim of the black spot, now lives in a glass jar) 3. iPod Classic 5th gen (dropped twice, capacitors by the dock on the mobo broke off, rendering the motherboard useless, couldn’t find a replacement) 4. iPod Touch 3rd gen (given to me by my dad, lives in a drawer rarely used) 5. iPod Touch 3rd gen (given to me by my step mom IN CONJUNCTION WITH AN *iHOME*) 6. iPod Touch 7th gen (Bought by me, dropped by me and dented the frame, got it fixed, then bought another one from the same place and exactly the same one LITERALLY A MONTH BEFORE THE IPOD WAS DISCONTINUED.) iPod Touch 7th gen “PuffPod 7” [current one] (still being used, lives in an otter box case, and again, watching this very video on it.)
Contributing: 1. 32GB iPod Classic: had a spot but nothing too serious, emptied it out of videos to make space for a growing music collection; was phased out in favor of a freshly launched 5th Gen iPod Touch, nothing wrong with it (the Classic) except that the battery was lasting three days or less between charges; attempted to give new life to it last year but it was already cooked beyond repair 2. 5th Gen iPod Touch: battery charging connector stopped working, headphone jack stopped working previously; hardware is in one piece, bloody thing was properly taken care of and was placed on a case (and a screen protector) from the very first day 3. 7th Gen iPod Touch: bought last Black Friday so no issues with it yet; was given a spare screen protector from the 5th Gen as well as its case (although replacements may be procured)

I had one in my Amazon cart for a few days, but after watching this video literally 5 times, bought it as a nostalgia purchase. Damn you waddddeeeeeeee (keep up the good work mate love your stuff)
My mum who worked in music owned two iPods, I didn’t know what they were for since I was growing up during the birth of the iPhone and it was just disused gadgets living in a drawer but I remember playing Vortex and a gun turret game (I don’t remember what it was called) the clickwheel really fascinated younger me and eventually one day after coming home from primary school my mum sat me and my sister down in my bedroom and opened up a shiny iPod Touch, I was bedazzled by how thin and sleek it was and it was always with us hooked up to some dinky aux attachment on long car journeys across the countryside and I remember hours of playing Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja despite kids around me having giant iPads. It’s a shame the iPod’s legacy couldn’t live on today even after I discovered DankPods and found a new appreciation for the iPods that were so foreign to me. Rest in peace iPod, you paved the way for the iPhone and the golden years of Apple.
The iPod is what introduced me to the music I listen to to this day. It will forever have a place in my heart as not just a music player, but as a sort of non-sentient friend. R.I.P. iPod (2001-2022) "Gone, but not forgotten."
I was like “ why hasn’t dank said anything about the iPods death “ until I saw this Rip iPods, the thing that helped me survive middle school in 08 😭😫😭
That’s a really cool midnight iPod classic you have at the end. I like the even older ones with monochrome screen, easier to work on. Upgraded a few with 64GB flash cards, 3rd gen, 4th gen, and iPod mini. I never could find a “broken” 5th gen that wasn’t truly broken (like the one you showed). And my “iPod touch” is (and will continue to be) my previous iPhone with SIM card removed.
I still remember when I got an iPod 4th generation with the click wheel. I got it months after I got a CD player but I used it way more than my CD player ever did. The hard drive broke twice before Apple replaced it with a 5th Gen iPod that my sister ended up using and I got the 5.5th Gen iPod Video in black for Christmas in 2006. Good times before the iPhone became a thing.
listening to my mom's ipod classic is what made me fall in love with music, and my much later ipod touch made me fall in love with technology. rip buddy, you had a good run.
You know, I may get an iPod Touch when they're clearing it out and just...not open it, just keep one sealed as a collectors item, cause the iPod Touch was kind of my first portible media player if you don't count portible game systems like the DS, DSi and 3DS (the latter of which I lost, incidentally.). I have a personal connection to the iPod and it will be mourned heavily by me. It's never fun to see something from your childhood die. I'm still trying to adjust to a world without Qubo, and will be sorely underprepaired for that dark day when we lose Spongebob. also I now want a Fiio because I actually don't like apple too much, and I want *POWER* Seriously tho, props to Fiio for basically continuing to carry the torch for crazy-ass music players.
Waiting until my supervisors leave to watch this in peace. But condolences to the fallen comrade. He served us well through two decades of technological upsets, triumphs and teardowns. You are with us always. 💯
My last iPod was a 5th gen touch I bought from Walmart in February 2013. Crazy how long it's been. It was inevitable though as smartphones because so incredible so quickly. Rest in peace old iPod
This is one of your best episodes by far and I would love to see you work on more iPods! That Fiio at the end seems like jus the type of product I would love, and if they were to add in cell connectivity then I would be blasting out the tunes on Tidal all the time, no matter where I am.
Not an Apple fan, but may the iPod rest in peace, it has indeed changed the map of media as we knew it. That, cannot be taken away. A century achievement.
Imagine you go to a funeral, take the stand to speak good about the dead, then you dissect it, talk horrible about it, then try to bring the person back to life by even directing it even more. Nice.
0:20 True…ish! Apple was “90 days from bankruptcy” according to Jobs himself, and they did receive millions from Microsoft, but while I’m sure it helped that wasn’t what saved them. Michael MJD made a great video about how and why that’s not the case - highly recommend looking it up
I was the first person in my high school to have an iPod. It was the 3rd gen. In my opinion, it was the coolest of all of the iPods. Definitely my favorite. People were like "wtf is that?" Dankpods was partly the reason why I started to collect and maintain/work on my PSPs. Thank you dude for bringing new life to older electronics that need to be appreciated all over again.
it sucks, I was planning on buying an Ipod for something to listen to on my walk home, RIP Ipod, 2001-2022
After seeing that absolutly stripped screw on the funeral pod, I just gotta say this:
*PLEASE USE JIS SCREWDRIVERS, NOT PHILIPS*
JIS is the standard that pretty much all consumer electronics use (if they're not using some other anti-repair nonsense like tri-wing or torx) and the only difference between JIS and philps is that the screw heads are shallower than philips, and the screwdrivers are blunter than philips.
Meaning that if you use a philips screwdriver on a JIS screw; the connection will be loose and you're more likely to strip the screw in the attempt to unscrew
but what does jis mean?
Japanese Industrial Standard. The screwdrivers have characteristics that separate them from Philips screwdrivers
Torx is Superior
Oohh that's why it always seems right to grind a bit off of a Philips driver, else it just doesn't sit deep enough. Thank you! :)
The iPod was forever my favorite device, the small but strong iPod I had gave me happiness. My space gray 2019 iPod will forever be in my heart, and so will my first one.
Edit: I am glad that EOE exists, I honestly thought I would never see a iPod again. I’m willing to pay as much as possible just to have happiness from a nugget.
For years I rocked the iPod Nano 2 with a 3rd party case with a small carabiner clip. I would clip it on to one of my belt loops and let the music play; I also heard my first audiobook on it (Harry Potter 1 or Brisingr, can't remember which).
What's EOE? When I google it, it only comes up with Eosinophilic Esophagitis.
Elite Obsolete Electronics, it's mentioned in the video at 6:37
@@tachobrenner Ngl, I was only half paying attention as I'm coincidentally in the middle of arduously dragging folders into CopyTrans to sync onto a 4th gen iPod touch that arrived today. (It stalled when I tried to add everything at once and sync, so it's add 5 folders, wait, hit "update," wait; repeat >.< ) Thanks, though!
My first one was the 7th Jen na no I still have it I got it when I was 5
fking love u, thx for existing in the same space-time as me.

Go sir in the name of the Craig, Craig, and holy Craig.
I use iPods every day, and have for many years. It's lovely to leave the phone at home sometimes, or have a device that's only for listening to music. That focus has been helpful for how I live and work. Thanks to your channel, I've been able to keep them working. Long live the iPod!
10:43 the following is a brief snapping montage
Wade on the news: "I don't think the iPod's dead, I think it's sleeping..."
Wade's thumbnail: "The iPod (2001 - 2022)".
After coming across your channel by accident I have watched a few videos, but very grateful as my iPod video 80gb was not charging, I have never used any particular charger and just thought it had died, but after watching one of your videos I bought a original FireWire charger that had the original usb/FireWire cable. I only paid £10 from eBay in the uk. It has revived it so I want to thank you.👍
Best thumbnail ever Dankpods has made.

I never thought I'd see Dank doing Hylics gestures in an attempt to revive an iPod, but here we are. It's a sad day, the end of an era. Rest in peace iPod, even if that one iPod Touch 4G I bought was a pain in the butt and ruined Christmas for me trying to jailbreak it and utterly died after I finally found a use for it, while my Sony Walkman still lives on. I'm sure the classic ones were much less of a pain.
So sad that the iPod had to be killed off, you were the reason I started liking iPods and why I basically daily drive an iPod Touch 1G as my secondary music player/old iOS game thingo. R.I.P 2001-2002
I fished a 6th gen iPod Classic out of a second-hand shop a couple years back cause I needed a way to listen to music without sapping battery from my phone. I love the physical experience, and it's a total tank. I might start building a collection.
@@andrewduong2740 I also saw a 3rd gen na-no, but I didn't buy it.
11:00 I've been SNAPPING for 30 minutes!!
It’s very appropriate that you used a genuine Dickhead to light the vigil candles. I remember that Patreon Episode. Glad you’re using em for good uses mate. RIP Ol’ Mate
I felt the same way when my Zune 30 died (bought it for $20 at a flea market last year). I still have multiple iPod Nanos (3rd gen 8GB, 8GB 4th- and 5th-gen) and two Shuffles (blue 2nd and Space Gray 4th generation) and they're all working fine. Very surprised none of the Nanos have swollen batteries yet since I always keep their brightness levels at ZERO and Cover Flow (among other useless settings) disabled after seeing your helpful vid called "The iPod Nano stinks." or something like that.
A truly sad time we live in.
Indeed 😔
Agreed!
Time to stock on the nuggets
I'll have *every single one*

Man, I just bought a nano 7 and I've been using it all the time in the car (because I don't like paying monthly for streaming services). Even before I got my first phone, I used an iPod (also a nano 7) to listen to the radio on the bus. I can't believe it's discontinued now. Rest in peace iPod. You did good.
I got a classic 7th gen and it's the first Apple I got
Ah, I remember my first and only iPod. My brother bought me a 20GB 3rd generation iPod for Christmas. I was blown away.
I used it for many years, and even as the battery started getting old, I had the thing hooked up to an iHome alarm clock with a dock. (That thing was sweet.) Too bad the iPod crashed more and more as it aged - I couldn't rely on it to wake me up in the morning. 😂
Thanks for the video! Brings back good memories.
I bought one of those touches after your video about it being the new Classic, and it was the first iPod I ever got. I got in towards the end, but I love my iPod - and will keep it up and running as long as I can. Also looking forward to getting a Classic 160 GB. This is the beginning of an entire underground segment for Pods
i will give jobs this, he knew how to find various existing elements and have his tech teams combine them into things even the most tech challenged could use.
That was one of the reasons I products never appealed to me. I wanted to fully customize the ui and wallpapers like it was a winamp skin and the early apple products were adverse to that.
5:32 “EW ITS TRYING TO LIVE” mood
Sad as this is, Apple killed it 3 or 4 years ago and then released the iPod touch 7, so lets hope it works.
I've never been an Apple kid, but I do understand how it feels when a beloved device gets discontinued. especially if it left that big of an impact and lasted so long.
I was really waiting for you to make a video on this. RIP iPod 2001-2022.
The energy you bring is amazing. Ty for the laugh / lesson. Cheers have a good one !
Literally watching this on my iPod Touch 7th gen.
Also, in requiem of the iPod, I shall now recite my many iPods, and their deaths.
1. iPod Nano 2nd gen (died when my dad overcharged it)
2. iPod nano 4th gen (victim of the black spot, now lives in a glass jar)
3. iPod Classic 5th gen (dropped twice, capacitors by the dock on the mobo broke off, rendering the motherboard useless, couldn’t find a replacement)
4. iPod Touch 3rd gen (given to me by my dad, lives in a drawer rarely used)
5. iPod Touch 3rd gen (given to me by my step mom IN CONJUNCTION WITH AN *iHOME*)
6. iPod Touch 7th gen (Bought by me, dropped by me and dented the frame, got it fixed, then bought another one from the same place and exactly the same one LITERALLY A MONTH BEFORE THE IPOD WAS DISCONTINUED.)
iPod Touch 7th gen “PuffPod 7” [current one] (still being used, lives in an otter box case, and again, watching this very video on it.)
Contributing:
1. 32GB iPod Classic: had a spot but nothing too serious, emptied it out of videos to make space for a growing music collection; was phased out in favor of a freshly launched 5th Gen iPod Touch, nothing wrong with it (the Classic) except that the battery was lasting three days or less between charges; attempted to give new life to it last year but it was already cooked beyond repair
2. 5th Gen iPod Touch: battery charging connector stopped working, headphone jack stopped working previously; hardware is in one piece, bloody thing was properly taken care of and was placed on a case (and a screen protector) from the very first day
3. 7th Gen iPod Touch: bought last Black Friday so no issues with it yet; was given a spare screen protector from the 5th Gen as well as its case (although replacements may be procured)
I think i only had 1 ipod died and it was my shuffle 2nd gen, i lost it and haven’t seen it for like god knows how long
.
I love the word requiem but all I can ever think about is requiem for a dream and going butt to butt. Poor word
@@natelax1367 great scene very romantic

as someone with a whole ipod collection, (literally, i was everyone single type of ipod, colors, and all of the storage types, even some rare ones, (even the first ever made ipod), but this means i cant get anymore and see what's one them, i wont be able to mod them and sell them for much cheaper than other people are selling them for, it is really sad for a person that always used ipods ever since my brother showed me them, thank you apple for a decade of music streaming, the ipod will be missed
Man, this video had it all! iPod history, restoration, repair, homebrew hardware, Shrek, and that sick Portishead backbeat. Even a PKCELL cameo!
I had one in my Amazon cart for a few days, but after watching this video literally 5 times, bought it as a nostalgia purchase. Damn you waddddeeeeeeee (keep up the good work mate love your stuff)
May he rest in peace from 2001 to 2022 this nugget was a classic
The ipod was discontinued
dankpods sounding like green goblin got his fingers crushed at 2:28
My mum who worked in music owned two iPods, I didn’t know what they were for since I was growing up during the birth of the iPhone and it was just disused gadgets living in a drawer but I remember playing Vortex and a gun turret game (I don’t remember what it was called) the clickwheel really fascinated younger me and eventually one day after coming home from primary school my mum sat me and my sister down in my bedroom and opened up a shiny iPod Touch, I was bedazzled by how thin and sleek it was and it was always with us hooked up to some dinky aux attachment on long car journeys across the countryside and I remember hours of playing Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja despite kids around me having giant iPads.
It’s a shame the iPod’s legacy couldn’t live on today even after I discovered DankPods and found a new appreciation for the iPods that were so foreign to me.
Rest in peace iPod, you paved the way for the iPhone and the golden years of Apple.
RUclips is broken, i can't enable notifications for you specifically.
Thank you DankPods for everything you do! always enjoy your videos!
It will always leave a print on my heart or ears the iPod has given so many people so much joy and this chunky nugget will always be the best chunker
The iPod is what introduced me to the music I listen to to this day. It will forever have a place in my heart as not just a music player, but as a sort of non-sentient friend.

That's so sad man, I watched your 2TB storage installation into ipod a long time ago,

May the iPod rest in peace. At least you will see your father Steve after 10 years
RIP ipod. You were my savour through year 11/12 and my college and early 20s . rest up my friend you've earned your place in the 💞
listening to my mom's ipod classic is what made me fall in love with music, and my much later ipod touch made me fall in love with technology. rip buddy, you had a good run.
I'm still trying to adjust to a world without Qubo, and will be sorely underprepaired for that dark day when we lose Spongebob.
also I now want a Fiio because I actually don't like apple too much, and I want *POWER*

This is one of your best episodes by far and I would love to see you work on more iPods! That Fiio at the end seems like jus the type of product I would love, and if they were to add in cell connectivity then I would be blasting out the tunes on Tidal all the time, no matter where I am.
Rest in peace, dingus iPod!
Not an Apple fan, but may the iPod rest in peace, it has indeed changed the map of media as we knew it. That, cannot be taken away. A century achievement.
There goes my childhood- may the ipod forever rest in peace

Apple was “90 days from bankruptcy” according to Jobs himself, and they did receive millions from Microsoft, but while I’m sure it helped that wasn’t what saved them.
Michael MJD made a great video about how and why that’s not the case - highly recommend looking it up
I was the first person in my high school to have an iPod. It was the 3rd gen. In my opinion, it was the coolest of all of the iPods. Definitely my favorite. People were like "wtf is that?"
