Bart Watches a Japanese Anime Sub

- (6/29/23 UPDATE: Wow, over 100,000 views after uploading this five days ago! Did I create a new Simpsons meme or something?!)
An edit to the Simpsons episode "HOMR" and its' animation festival scene I couldn't resist doing, thanks to the language options on Disney+! Bart Simpson watches that weird "Transformazoids" anime, but this time, instead of it being an English dub, it's an English sub with the original Japanese voice tracks! It honestly sounds a lot cooler this way, combining the Japanese voices with Alf Clausen's stereotypical "anime" music of the time.

@@mattwo7 I think you replied to the wrong comment, bud
Besides, anime is just Japanese animation shortened. It would have been funny to hear people say that though. Bet they'd get tongue tied at times
@@KishiwiiI hate to be the one to "uhm ackshoeuhlee," but anime is just short for animation.
アニメーション was shortened to アニメ and it stuck. Western society has it in our brains that anime is specifically Japanese animation, but in Japan, they just call American cartoons, "anime." Anything animated is anime.
I love the subtlety of the weak translation, like saying "Your laugh is incorrect," instead of something such as "You won't be laughing for long."
As AI translation gets better only older people would get this jokes
Some said that true meaning of a language is lost in the translation. Not this one 😂
Especially for the time that this episode was made.
Oh... I thought the line actually was "Your laugh is incorrect"!
"Don't be so sure of yourself!"
"Don't get too cocky!"
"That's what YOU think!"
"You're going to eat your words!"
"Laugh it up...while you can!"
This is fun
I feel like they were trying to make a gag here about how Japan is so wacky and ridiculously nonsensical at times, but instead, this comes off as pretty normal as far as anime standards go
😂 lol
at the time, the ones people were aware of, this was a slight exaggeration of. Then Trigger started making things way more over the top than this.
Wait, was it supposed to be a parody?
It's like the Mister Sparkle commercial. To us, it's over the top. To them, that's nothing.
This feels like an arc 2 fight of the series.

The last frame of this video perfectly illustrates the anime fan vs non-fan. Happiness vs confusion. Excellent.
It could have been a normal American cartoon and Lisa still would have been confused. She shelters herself from anything that normal people would find entertaining.
@@Ability-King-KK I love anime and stuff STILL confuses me.
It's kinda hilarious how Simpsons interpretation of anime looks exactly the same as the normal cartoon style, but eye colouring...
Changing styles would have rally messed up with production time back then (storyboarding, first drafts , clean-ups and all that stuff).
They could have outsourced it like they did recently with the Death Note parody but that Is not cheap either.
@@bryangutierrez6679 I'm glad they didn't outsource it, this just make Anime in the Simpsons universe canonically hyper realistic compared to them but with eye colour.

Sure, but when this episode aired and was produced Anime was the more widely used word.
It'd be like if a show today used moving pictures to describe cartoons because that was a commonly used term decades ago. You can explain it, but it's still an odd thing to do.

Plus, in the early 1990s, the show was fairly raunchy, but nowhere as raunchy as the much later seasons, or “Family Guy” or “South Park” or whatever. In fact, at such a young age, I was amazed at how a cartoon could be pretty realistic, even with the yellow-skinned humans. So when I owned Volumes 6, 7, 8, and 9, there were select episodes I only went back to. Too many to name.
