Avon's best championship winning performance of the three years, easily. I'd go as far as to say no champion since has matched in terms of sheer raw power, performance level and confidence. The Woodlands 2013 came close. A once-in-a-decade (generation?) band
This performance brings back memories. I was in the Avon High School marching band in 2009. I was only a Freshman. It was so exciting and long hours of practice were put into this show : ) I can see myself in this video: 2nd row of xylophones, I'm the last one on the left next to the golden chimes. At 3:03 you can see me move from the xylophone to the golden chimes to play a few bars and then go back : )
I finally understand why this drill is so clean and why the music technique is so hammered out. I just checked out the rehearsal schedule for the Avon band. They've got 'em practicing all summer, save two weeks for vacation. That's pretty brutal.
it is a no cut program with a lot of really great kids that want to be the best they can be. They have a great staff that knows how to motivate the kids. Their secret is a lot of hard work.
This school is to DCI what college football is to the NFL....great recruiting stock! these kids are great! first time seeing a "BOA" competitor...I can see a lot of DCI in the BOA competitors....same spirit of excellence, and hard work to get your show right...I just might check out a BOA show this summer
yeah like crown's show last year. or cavelier's show this year. can't wait to go see dci monday though. caveliers. blue devils. spirit of atlanta. and phantom. plus some open class bands.
I applaud this wonderful band for not relying on props to win their shows. I have so often seen bands that win just because they use bouncy balls or thirty-foot words on the field. It's great to see a band that relies on precision, tone, and uniformity.
Such a wonderfully stylish and sophisticated program. Last was incredible, but this takes high school marching band to a whole new level. CONGRATS, AVON!!!!
good job avon! i loved that trumpet solo. and to this day, i get soooo many goose bumps. :D can't wait to see you guys this year! -marian catholic high school member
Best show ever. Arguably of course. But I've seen a lot and this one is definitely up there. The guard is incredible. The brass are piercing when they need to be and the woodwinds are gorgeous. This GE is astronomical. Wow. Avon is totally on fire.
For three years straight 90 Percent of our brass line could have went DCI. I wrestled varsity, played football, and marched euphonium. The marching band rehearsals starting 8th grade summer 2006 through 2010 were some of the most calculated and well coached sights to see.
Your finale and ballad...wow. You guys definitely deserved first place. Congrats! I wish I could've seen it live. -The Woodlands High School Marching Band Junior
Chadwell J I know people say its based on SCV, but I feel the template is remolded every once in a while. The Avon version is the new model. People say SCV 99 is based on Star 93. One day someone will remake the Avon version creating the new paradigm for medea.
I know this comment is 4 years old, but I can't help it right now. We should never compare top high school marching band with DCI World Class corps. That's like comparing the Clemson football team with the Carolina Panthers....they are completely different worlds. Same goes with competitive high school marching band and DCI. Avon High School is one of my favorite bands to watch, and they do well for their ability. The same goes for The Cadets. Let's keep them both separate.
Wow. I was actually at Grand National finals, but i only saw up to Center Grove. this show is awesome! can't wait to see what you guys will do next year! -Lafayette (KY) Sophomore
my favorite part is 4:00-6:30, aka the ballad. it's like a trance. and the drum major doesn't look stupid, at all, because he's getting what he wants out of the band. totally impacting.
I don't take anything away from the kids, because I know they performed their hearts out . . . but it would just be nice to see a band win with an original program instead of refurbishing a corps program. Santa Clara in 2000, if I'm correct. Very well done, and congrats!
gosh the drum major is killin it.......he should teach me how to conduct like that lol i really love avon even tho i dont go there its one of my favorite high school marching band's
you are so lucky! You guys are a great marching band! Its my 8th grade year marching for kiski=P. i really dont know any of the good bands besides you guys XD and i know that we(kiski) are pretty good, but not quite as good as you guys but wow this was amazing. love the ending too=P
Great show Avon! As a tenor (drums) player though, i wanna make one little comment about the bouncing while you march, it is quite noticable from up high. Still sounded incredible and congrats on the performance!!
Well I am not aloud to saying about this years show but all I can say is be ready its going to be good, I love the design and I am ready to end my senior season with a bang!
I'm Sydney, a flute, so basically the opposite of your insturment! But I have a sister who is a junior clarinet this year too and I'm enjoying it so far. Of course, I'm a little hesitant for band camp, but I can't wait for competitions to start!
@HolyNameSnipers holy shit! how is that possible! i play baritone in my marching band in cary nc and we practice for 16+ hours a week. how are they that amazing?
im in middel school but what we do is practice over the weekend and hours aftor school almost every day! its a no cut but these ppl work there butts off to be the best and keep avons tital
Wow. Most epic marching band show ever? I think so. I'm so jealous, my band can't even compare. It's crazy, their indoor drumline program is super successful too. Jealous!
there drumline is huge!!!!! 5 tenors, 9 snares, and 6 basses!!!!!! How in the world do they stay clean with that many people?? We can't even stay clean with 6 snares, 3 tenors, and 5 basses. And we have some pretty decent players. It amazes me.
Ohh my lorrrdd the part with no hats is brilliant! As are the masks! I'm from one of the big Texas bands that goes to grand nats, and geez i wish we had enough time to get this good (stupid 8 hour rule). How long do you guys practice a week?
@1alexmweiss Did I say un-wealthy? I said they are not RICH...there is a difference. They struggle every year in making sure that the budget is adhered to. There are programs set up in the community that the students and their families can work at community events to add money to their band accounts to pay for their instruments and band fees. The "wealth" comes from the COMMUNITY! SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION!! BUSINESSES! And I'm not talking about money! There are alot of struggles but we make it!
Gosh I can see why yall are like AMAZING yall probaly pratice a whole lot!!!!!! In texas we have an eight hour rule thats how much we can pratice a week during marching season.
Just so yall know every Great Band (Fwood Tx here) Idolizes the amazing bands like Avon, LdBell, Marcus...etc. Amazing Amazing amazing that highschool kids pull this off. Just out of curiosity does Richard Suacedo write your music? We have him write ours and mvmt 2 has the same solo part. Ours was an oboe playing but same melody.
Such an amazing band great job!! and to the previous comment i really believe that what the drum major was doing was amazing the expressions he gave towards the music really helps the audience feel the emotion of the music. Where is Avon High School at??
@1alexmweiss Where do you people get this stuff? Avon is NOT a rich school! They just have dedicated students and staff that worked extremely hard! Oh and did I forget to mention a fan basis that is incredible with parents putting in long hours of volunteering and making sure that they have everything that they need to succeed!
@coolness46123 yeah i was in it lol...its pretty extreme but the staff is excellent and it rlly is a premium band program and its definitely worth it at the end
what instrument you play? I'm kevin, Im a junior tuba marcher for avon. You're in for the best year of your life and many more to come. I'll see you basically tomorrow, first day of summer marching. Good luck!!! Stay strong fight through and Play hard!!!
To answer previous questions we have NEVER rented out Lucas Oil Stadium. I think Carmel may have borrowed the Colts practice field once so maybe that was where that came from. An no Richard Saucedo doesn't write our music.
I have a question. Do you guys have a way to recruitment members, or are people just really dedicated? If they do can I politely ask what do you guys do so I can tell my Band director.
My god, that trumpet feature. This show is a design masterclass that got paired with the most talented group in the country, love when that happens
gosh I miss this some days. I was part of this group. It was my senior year
Avon's best championship winning performance of the three years, easily. I'd go as far as to say no champion since has matched in terms of sheer raw power, performance level and confidence. The Woodlands 2013 came close. A once-in-a-decade (generation?) band
It’s crazy. I’m watching the current year right now on a stream and just heard this from Vista Ridge.
I think Hebron may have passed this show in quality this year.
@@thedude9001 were they at nationals this year right? I know there was a band that played these tunes but I thought it was vista ridge
@@RVVDont Vista Ridge played the same piece (Samuel Barbers 1st Symphony) and no, Hebron was not at grand nationals this year.
Had Hebron gone to grand nationals in 2021, I think they would’ve challenged this. Two absolutely phenomenal shows
There have been some great performances at BOA over the years, but this show is a BEAST. It's a pure masterpiece!
This performance brings back memories. I was in the Avon High School marching band in 2009. I was only a Freshman. Nice to meet you, I joined Avon marching band this year!
I finally understand why this drill is so clean and why the music technique is so hammered out. I just checked out the rehearsal schedule for the Avon band. They've got 'em practicing all summer, save two weeks for vacation. That's pretty brutal.
Wow!! What a performance. The music selection and execution is outstanding. One of the best, still to this day.
it is a no cut program with a lot of really great kids that want to be the best they can be. They have a great staff that knows how to motivate the kids. Their secret is a lot of hard work.

except boa is a lot better than dci in my opinion. i went to a dci comp last year and saw crown perform. i prefer boa over dci.
***** Why is that? Not looking to argue, just want to know why.
cooler music, better props. woodwinds. better sound it isn't all brass
I can agree with you on the first two things. DCI is becoming a "let's see who's show concept is the weirdest!" Kind of competition. :/
yeah like crown's show last year. or cavelier's show this year. can't wait to go see dci monday though. caveliers. blue devils. spirit of atlanta. and phantom. plus some open class bands.
this was my freshman year in this band and i will never forget this show it was such a great show

This show was fantastic. You guys deserved your first place.
Trumpet feature blows my mind every time......
i still say this is the hardest show ive ever had to perform
Jesus christ....absolutely phenomenal. keep it up.
-Boston Crusaders
that trumpet soli at 1:50 tho......... so good. i'll stop watching this the day i die
This is the most incredible thing i have seen in my entire life.
Best show ever. Arguably of course. But I've seen a lot and this one is definitely up there. The guard is incredible. The brass are piercing when they need to be and the woodwinds are gorgeous. This GE is astronomical. Wow. Avon is totally on fire.
Wow! ... very impressive. You can see the influence of their directors backgrounds at play here .... The future of DCI, I dare say?
For three years straight 90 Percent of our brass line could have went DCI. I wrestled varsity, played football, and marched euphonium. The marching band rehearsals starting 8th grade summer 2006 through 2010 were some of the most calculated and well coached sights to see.
one of myv fav shows of 2009
You are great! I am hoping that our band will make Finals this year.
Your finale and ballad...wow.
You guys definitely deserved first place. Congrats! I wish I could've seen it live.
-The Woodlands High School Marching Band Junior
Holly crap they pulled off the Cadets 2013 trumpet feature 4 years before the cadets did it, and it sounded better!
It's based on SCV 1999, though the trumpet feature in this specific show makes my life.
Chadwell J I know people say its based on SCV, but I feel the template is remolded every once in a while. The Avon version is the new model. People say SCV 99 is based on Star 93. One day someone will remake the Avon version creating the new paradigm for medea.

wow i was there. Im in the marching blue devils from brunswick ohio and finals was a night i will never forget
This was the perfect design for these Barber works. Between LD Bell 03 and this, I'll never be disappointed.
Wow. I was actually at Grand National finals, but i only saw up to Center Grove. this show is awesome! can't wait to see what you guys will do next year!
-Lafayette (KY) Sophomore
Sweet Selections from the 1999 Vanguard Show! Fabulous!
oh my gosh i love this band i was there in the stands when this preformance was going on....im in the ryle band we all LOVE this band soooooo much
I still remember seeing this show live... It was amazing!
thank you...i really enjoyed being in this show :)
my favorite part is 4:00-6:30, aka the ballad. it's like a trance. and the drum major doesn't look stupid, at all, because he's getting what he wants out of the band. totally impacting.
The ending must have rang for at least 8 seconds. I'm so pissed off I wasn't there for that. That was the year I contemplated going....
I absolutely LOVE this show ! You guys rock !
Oh my gosh! I wish my marching band could play and march like this. Nice impact moments and i love the trumpet feature.
Can't wait for the show of 2013! It will be my freshman year :)
drum major is throwing bows at the end, looks like he could take someone out, love it. some of the best field conducting for the sound I've seen.
Awesome. Awesome Awesome. Tied with 2007 with one of my favorites
it must be cool to be in the band at that school because the band is huge... i wish it was like that at our school
Avon is the pride of Indiana!
I don't take anything away from the kids, because I know they performed their hearts out . . . but it would just be nice to see a band win with an original program instead of refurbishing a corps program. Santa Clara in 2000, if I'm correct. Very well done, and congrats!

what a beautiful ballad oh my god!!!
Great show Avon! As a tenor (drums) player though, i wanna make one little comment about the bouncing while you march, it is quite noticable from up high. Still sounded incredible and congrats on the performance!!
haha, lucky, I bet it will be a blast. I'd love to be a part of such an amazing program.
Well I am not aloud to saying about this years show but all I can say is be ready its going to be good, I love the design and I am ready to end my senior season with a bang!
Totally looking that up right now..
I'm Sydney, a flute, so basically the opposite of your insturment! But I have a sister who is a junior clarinet this year too and I'm enjoying it so far. Of course, I'm a little hesitant for band camp, but I can't wait for competitions to start!
im in middel school now and all my band directors have bean perpareing us for this!
Man. That was insanely impressive.
- Pride of Durant
i cant wate intill i can be in highschool because i will join them! cant wate 1 and half more years then i can be in avon band one of the best
awesome show! huge fan.
@HolyNameSnipers holy shit! how is that possible! i play baritone in my marching band in cary nc and we practice for 16+ hours a week. how are they that amazing?
I've seen this so many times... and every time I watch it I get stunned by the trumpets at 1:50-2:08
im in middel school but what we do is practice over the weekend and hours aftor school almost every day!
its a no cut but these ppl work there butts off to be the best and keep avons tital
Most of the guard that won WGI last year graduated. half of this group was not on that team. By April, this group will be beast.

If the trumpets at my school were given that score in band camp and told to play that perfectly they would've quit then. That was impressive!
@1alexmweiss Did I say un-wealthy? I said they are not RICH...there is a difference. They struggle every year in making sure that the budget is adhered to. The "wealth" comes from the COMMUNITY! SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION!! BUSINESSES! And I'm not talking about money! There are alot of struggles but we make it!
we did the balad and the opener this year at larue county the video is on my profile....we also won state here in KY
Gosh I can see why yall are like AMAZING yall probaly pratice a whole lot!!!!!! In texas we have an eight hour rule thats how much we can pratice a week during marching season.
yes!!! EPIC EPIC EPIC!!!!! LOVE you guys!!!
the 2009 show is so much better than 2010 show
avon 2009 and cadets 2013 both "came from" star of indiana 93 and vanguard 99.
this past season's cadets show was in honor of star 93, iirc.
i thought i was at the dci finals when i saw this live, no joke
damn, 6:33 epic echo.
i played slow eighth notes on that sound plate, and it sounded like RAHRAHRAHRAHRAH.
I can't even fathom what the applause must have been like from the field
Why don't people stop arguing over something like money and just enjoy the fucking show. Money has nothing to do with how wonderful Avon is!
Such an amazing band great job!! and to the previous comment i really believe that what the drum major was doing was amazing the expressions he gave towards the music really helps the audience feel the emotion of the music. Where is Avon High School at??
gotta love the "sound wave" at 3:16 - sounds and looks alot like homestead's sound wave in their 2008 show...
@1alexmweiss Where do you people get this stuff? Avon is NOT a rich school! They just have
dedicated students and staff that worked extremely hard! Oh and did I forget to mention a fan basis that is incredible with parents putting in long hours of volunteering and making sure that they have everything that they need to succeed!
great job at boa
- Kennesaw mountain marching band
And to think my school district wants to cut our music program D:
I wish we had the support these guys do...
I really liked the Carmel show. If we couldn't win, I was pulling for yu.
@coolness46123 yeah i was in it lol...its pretty extreme but the staff is excellent and it rlly is a premium band program
and its definitely worth it at the end
God you guys rule. I can only imagine how hard you guys work to get this good. You deserve every win. What's the title of the music though?
@1544dan You've been marching for 18,094 years actually ;)
I wonder what it takes to direct a band with such talent as this?
really good job
-westmoore highschool marching band. OK
GO AVON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I
what instrument you play? I'm kevin, Im a junior tuba marcher for avon. You're in for the best year of your life and many more to come. I'll see you basically tomorrow, first day of summer marching. Good luck!!! Stay strong fight through and Play hard!!!
Brilliant soloists!
my band this year is playing samuel barber symphony 3 for our ballad....its good but i hope to god the judges dont compare us to this
To answer previous questions we have NEVER rented out Lucas Oil Stadium. I think Carmel may have borrowed the Colts practice field once so maybe that was where that came from. An no Richard Saucedo doesn't write our music.
Samuel Barber's symphony number 1 I believe
@carolynwazhere Are you from Texas? Here it is Illegal to practice over 8 hours a week after school.
thank you for posting this, is this finals or semifinals?
that is at the very least 250 people.:O Holy fuck. Our marching band competes with 65 people.
@BeScared012 is their show of this year on youtube?
I have a question. Do you guys have a way to recruitment members, or are people just really dedicated? If they do can I politely ask what do you guys do so I can tell my Band director.
@yomolob Its not about who should win its about who can really earn the title for the 2010 season
This is the same music Castle High School Played in 2001 "The Canyon" ....... But that's ok ..... Because Castle and Avon are close friends.
@cade681 you wouldn't happen to be in the Adair county band would you. I'm in the Wayne county band and I was there when you did that
