I love all the BOA finalist shows this year, but unlike the others, I can sit and watch Avon's show 5 or 10 times in a row. I think that's what makes a truly amazing show. great music, great visuals, great marching. and i am very partial to their sideline. :]
The Opener was Verdi's Requiem The ballady opener part was Mozart's Lacrimosa The fanfare was more of Verdi After the fanfare was Mozart's Requiem The closer was Prayers of Kierkegaard
Marcus - Won Texas 5A State Marching Last Yr, Percussion Program PASIC World Champ 9 Times, Mid-West Featured Group 2007, Many Texas 5A All-State Players, Beat Bell at San Antonio Super Regional 2007
Man, Avon rocks! And don't think I"m just saying that.... I'm a Carroll student. I heard Lacrymosa in there. Loved your show that year. Push was still the best. Good luck this year guys!
i remember seeing thins show at regionals 2007......i was in the band that got silver jeffersonville high school marching band.....we didnt do that great that esp. in the 1st movement.....but you all were amazing really
Funded by the entire city? Uhhh NO! Are you insane? 200 + members...YES and it takes an incredible talent to control 200+ band members on the field. A lot of hard work, ALOT of fundraising and alot of time makes this band AWESOME!!!
Man, when Avon was in class B, they were neck and neck with schools like Northview, Greenwood, and Concord (I go there), now, in Class A, they have practically no competition!
@koribae , yes this is a high school, Avon HS a suburb of Indianapolis. They have dominated the Indiana state championships the past several years and rightfully so, they are awesome!
im in the guard for avon and i sometimes think that too and i was in both shows...but i guess there was just something about the massive show that made it to Nats standards...and just a fact there were about 8 or 9 freshman in the guard '07 year..we have (well since i have been in it) about 40 guard members...we are really acostombed to having a big guard...
My pleasure. You guys have earned it. It is amazing what you kids accomplish each year and I believe this year was the pinnacle of it all. Until next year? I can't wait.
After school practice at Avon must be intense, they never stop moving. I go to Lawrence Central, so I understand completely. I was there too that night, nice show.....you will always be my enemy (nah I'm just playing lol).
I must say that this is the first Avon band I enjoyed in every aspect. The playing is much improved! This is just fantastic. Congrats on 2nd at nationals. If this kind of band shows up every year then, you'll have your eagle before you know it! Just splendid.
This band is great. Mozart pieces are awesome! How do you all get to be soooo good? Do you dedicate everything to band? Our bands here in NM seem too as well, but we are no where are as good as this!
you won my heart in the first 20 seconds....then you played a note.........and now i'm hooked. great job guys. amazing show, amazing performance, and amazing band. keep up the good work!
Indeed we are, but many of us also have friends in the Carmel program. We compete a lot in the same contests because we're only 45 minutes or so apart from each other.
Not anymore. I was in marching band for 5 years 8-12th grade at Dorman High School and then, 4 years in college at Western Carolina University. I was drum major for 2 years in high school and 3 years in college. I still help out with a band here and there, but I've shifted over towards choral conducting as my main occupation. I'm still addicted to band though and I had a double concentration as an undergrad in instrumental and vocal music education. I follow BOA and DCI 'almost' obsessively.
I loved Avon's show so much, even though i saw it about a million times. i really wouldnt have minded seeing them Grand Nationals Champs myself. I CAN SEE US IN THE BACKGROUND WOO
the only thing the same is the fact that we ran off. we were spread across the field whereas they were in tight spacing and they ran off in different counts and we ran off all at the same time.
@ahsspinner07 You might have heard Nishihara High School Marching Band (Japan) play the music first back in 2004. Smaller ensemble, enclosed field, but there band director was also a product of the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, as is Avon's director.
That's because the Japanese band kids do music for 8 hours then they go home and practice for another 6. But hard work and a stride for perfection is something that is ingrained in the Japanese psyche.
um...thats the Verdi Requiem they start with. For a high school band to pull it off like they did is a result of extremely hard work, and even more so because they're doing the marching work with it.
wow, you guys continue to blow my mind hahaha.I saw you guys last year at grand nationals and loved your show! I'm in the Gateway High School Marching Band. Too bad we got 33rd and just missed semis.
ahh thanks so much everyone for the support. we dont say were better than anyone we just work really hard to achieve what we do. So please dont bash us its for one not sportsman like and 2 its just really rude, all of these kids sweat to the bone to achieve this. we practice Tues/Wed/Thurs 6-9 saturdays if we have shows we can have 8 hours days or if we dont sometimes we have mini camps for 12 hours and fridays sometimes we practice in any condition and always do out best all bands r great
i play for John Adams HS in South Bend, IN this is prolly my favorite show of you guys, excellent visuals and great music im in the drumline, and your drumline is sicknasty! awesome band
I agree that this is a great music and visual performance, and a refreshing change from all of the too weird and boring BOA shows as of late. However, they did not take first mostly because of field music and not ensemble...which you can't really notice in a high cam tape like this.
I KNOW!!! everyone says massive was the best show, but i agree this was our best show ever, and we ended not winning nats with this.... i'm sorry flipped on what shoulda won nats
lolol interesting, we only played 3 songs. Hopefully you weren't talking about the bouncy song with all the body, cause that song is amazing. The most fun song I've ever played.
Thank you all SOOOOO much for all the nice comments on this video! I was a senior and the section leader for the flute line this past year at Avon and the impact your words have on me is incredible. Thank you all for being so supportive and I hope you're all in the stands with me next year! :)
@wasid13 That was not added to the show until after state finals. As I recall, the first time it appeared was the Bands of America Indianapolis Regional.
Are you meaning Greenwood only has juniors and seniors? Or Avon? Because Avon has freshmen on up to seniors...we even had an 8th grader last year in the band. Everyone that wants to do marching band is allowed in also.
Thank you. Yes the show certainly has a lot of variety to it.

Every time the brass comes in singing, I get chills. This band is amazing!
Avon rocks the entire marching scene in Indiana, especially their guard.
good lord. the first bit of this show is ridiculously demanding.
great job.
thanks

Dang, you guys are good. Really good.
What's amazing is that this isn't even BOA finals performance, yet it is of the same quality a month prior.
i remember seeing thins show at regionals 2007......i was in the band that got silver jeffersonville high school marching band.....we didnt do that great that esp. in the 1st movement.....but you all were amazing really

inspirational....!!! AWESOME JOB!!
I wish we could be this good

BACK TO BACK NATIONAL CHAMPIONS GO AVON
Getting better every year
RELENTLESS
im in the guard for avon and i sometimes think that too and i was in both shows...but i guess there was just something about the massive show that made it to Nats standards...and just a fact there were about 8 or 9 freshman in the guard '07 year..we have (well since i have been in it) about 40 guard members...we are really acostombed to having a big guard...

Hey Conner. That's the Dies Irae from the Verdi Requiem. It's pretty much awesome.
Their 2009 show was the best in my opinion. Last year's wasn't too great until BOA, then they pretty much had it perfect.
After school practice at Avon must be intense, they never stop moving. I go to Lawrence Central, so I understand completely. I was there too that night, nice show.....you will always be my enemy (nah I'm just playing lol).
the best colorguard at Grand Nationals!! Awesome job Avon - keep it up!!
I love 6:20 to the end sooo much
I can see why Avon won the visual caption at Grand Nationals. Thats some squeaky clean drill.
...and actually, I met one of your staff members last year judging BandBeat in Charlotte, NC. Jeff Queen. I was the drum major judge there in 2006.
I must say that this is the first Avon band I enjoyed in every aspect. The playing is much improved! This is just fantastic. Congrats on 2nd at nationals. If this kind of band shows up every year then, you'll have your eagle before you know it! Just splendid.
the grand nationals performance is by far the best, it was incredible.
awesome!
amazing
This band is great. Mozart pieces are awesome! How do you all get to be soooo good? Do you dedicate everything to band? Our bands here in NM seem too as well, but we are no where are as good as this!
I just wanna say to these Kids and Band directors, YOU are the APITAMY of what high school marching band should be!
Great Work !
you won my heart in the first 20 seconds....then you played a note.........and now i'm hooked. great job guys. amazing show, amazing performance, and amazing band.
keep up the good work!
i go to snider we placed 10th this year i had to watch them from the side it was intimidating
that was sickkkkkkk!
Indeed we are, but many of us also have friends in the Carmel program. We compete a lot in the same contests because we're only 45 minutes or so apart from each other.
Awesome show Avon! I like it even more than 2003. Congrats at nationals!
I was a sophomore this year...I feel so old watching this because I still remember marching it so well.
i cant believe they didnt win it this year.
Lawrence Central finally got it.
Not anymore. I was in marching band for 5 years 8-12th grade at Dorman High School and then, 4 years in college at Western Carolina University. holy hell! this band is huge!
great show
the only thing the same is the fact that we ran off. we were spread across the field whereas they were in tight spacing and they ran off in different counts and we ran off all at the same time.
So proud to say I am a part of the avon marching band
yeah its Verdi's Requiem. i really wish they would have won.. darn LD Bell.
Technically they are, but it changes so much
I counted 21 or 22. BA had 26. I really liked Avon's show
when hell freezes over, we will
this is my favorite show by far
@ahsspinner07 You might have heard Nishihara High School Marching Band (Japan) play the music first back in 2004. Smaller ensemble, enclosed field, but there band director was also a product of the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, as is Avon's director.

3rd was Ben Davis
i agree.
um...thats the Verdi Requiem they start with. For a high school band to pull it off like they did is a result of extremely hard work, and even more so because they're doing the marching work with it.
What a massive marching band! (Especially color guard and brass section!) That is AWESOME!
i believe u did my friend
wow, you guys continue to blow my mind hahaha.I saw you guys last year at grand nationals and loved your show! I'm in the Gateway High School Marching Band. Too bad we got 33rd and just missed semis.
This was easily my favorite music at Grand Nationals.
ahh thanks so much everyone for the support. we dont say were better than anyone we just work really hard to achieve what we do. So please dont bash us its for one not sportsman like and 2 its just really rude, all of these kids sweat to the bone to achieve this. we practice Tues/Wed/Thurs 6-9

all bands r great
Very Well played and marched i'm impressed!! You guys were better than LD Bell
Do I see a little bit of Nisishara in there?
wow!!! this is probrobly the first school i've seen that dosn't need microphones for the pit!!!
Verdi's Requiem: Dies Irae
Avon is like the biggest High School i have ever seen. I practiced there last year with my marching band before BOA.
their tuba line is really amazing
holy crap you are so freaking lucky.......
i play for John Adams HS in South Bend, IN
this is prolly my favorite show of you guys, excellent visuals and great music
im in the drumline, and your drumline is sicknasty! awesome band
thats why the end of our show it the 'mass exodus'
I agree that this is a great music and visual performance, and a refreshing change from all of the too weird and boring BOA shows as of late. However, they did not take first mostly because of field music and not ensemble...which you can't really notice in a high cam tape like this.

What show is this? I've heard it before but don't remember what it was called.
damn, how big is your pit? realy suprised after seing this that you lost to Bell at Nationals. Good Job guys.
Omg. I'd kill to be in this band. Honestly.
Kill.
The show was really great, music, marching, everything.
Actually we are more famous outside of Avon than in our own school, half the kids at our own school don't even realize what we've accomplished.
How hard do you think they worked on this piece?
I am in the AHS band as well
AVON IS THE SHHHH
beautiful ! your forms are right on target, yall look great :]
lolol interesting, we only played 3 songs. Hopefully you weren't talking about the bouncy song with all the body, cause that song is amazing. The most fun song I've ever played.
we arent really sure what happened. we had a great show. some of the judges just didnt want us to win. whatever. congrats lc.
Does Avon get a lot of support from the community? Our school district keeps trying to cut our music program...
phantom regiment is doing this
I want this sound back.
LC was clean and sounded good, but I've heard Avon's closer was basically the high point of the evening. It's a mystery.
We got New Uniforms this year
Thank you all SOOOOO much for all the nice comments on this video! I was a senior and the section leader for the flute line this past year at Avon and the impact your words have on me is incredible. Thank you all for being so supportive and I hope you're all in the stands with me next year! :)
You guys are so good, gosh, I wish I could march in a band this good! Haha.
wow this is the same show nishihara high school band won their national championship with in 2005
o wow.. awesome
@wasid13 That was not added to the show until after state finals. As I recall, the first time it appeared was the Bands of America Indianapolis Regional.
Hate to spoil the fun.
Third was Carmel.
I wonder how their concert band is.
Are you meaning Greenwood only has juniors and seniors? Or Avon? Because Avon has freshmen on up to seniors...we even had an 8th grader last year in the band. Everyone that wants to do marching band is allowed in also.
When I was at DCI Finals this year I realized that the cadets show had a good chunk of this in their show
wow! I love it! Especially the intro which was Verdi's Requiem!
the first thing they played.. was that from harry potter quidditch world cup (video game)? haha i loved that game as a kid!
this reminds of nishihara
Is it just me, or is this show better then 08 when they won Nats...
