    Hi guys, just started watching and love all the information that you share, keep it coming. Just remember that your towball weight that's added for your gvm is not added again for your gcm, another word's the gcm is the weight of the caravan and the weight of the car, no towball weight because it's already on the van or else you you would be counting the towball weight twice. 😉

    • @BigOzExplorers
      @BigOzExplorers  2 года назад

      Yes agree, it's easier for newbies to understand if you break it down into the three sections discussed, even though the weight can travel from van to car when in combination. :)

    Enjoying your videos and currently living through you guys and a few other youtubers travelling as I am stuck in Vic locked down and cant get out in our new caravan :-( format, content timings and audio are all good.. May want to bring up the audio with the GME (11:27) but nailing end to end production. Keep the content and the adventure coming! Nice rig btw...

      Thanks for your feedback on production etc... I think the GME bit was because we were a bit far away! This type of filming (the build) is a bit different to the norm, it’s crazy one small thing (being a little further away from the mic) can make such a difference. It didn’t feel so far away on the day 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

    Hi Big Oz! Just got off the phone to Bob Jane (old mate was a little cranky on the phone for me suggesting he look at your video 😂) and they told me -
    1. What are method wheels and method wheels must be a dodgy bloke importing a cinta Inter with cheap rims 😂
    2. 295/70/R18 have alignment issues that will never balance and I will have rattles and tyre wear issues
    My questions are;
    1. How many kms have you so far traveled with your rims and tyre set up
    2. what has your experience been with 295/70?
    3. Have you had alignment issues specifically?
    Thank you - in anticipation of your awesome vids- I’ve hit the “bell” notification 😝

    Thanks for sharing. Sound was ok. You had a little background noise, but you could still make out clearly your voices. It was the 7t mass people were saying is impossible to have legally. If ur car is 3.5t then u can’t add 3.5t caravan on it because of added towball weight. There for the car when towing could only b 3.2t if the caravan had a 300kg ball weight. Without the caravan on u can b 3.5t in the car. Think I just confused myself haha must b a challenge for u guys to get right. Channels looking good 👍

    • @anthonydoherty1599
      @anthonydoherty1599 4 года назад

      Exactly. There’s no possible legal way that their setup can weigh 7T. Just because the tow ball weight is added to the GVM, doesn’t mean you can then take it away from your van. The van when weighed by itself can still weigh no more than 3.5T, that’s the max braked towing capacity for the vehicle. It’s not all bad though, because they can get a GVM upgrade which would then allow the extra 300kg to be used up to reach the 7T GCM. I really hope they are not assuming that they can now tow over a 3.5T van because the ball weight is transferred to the van. You absolutely can’t.

    • @BigOzExplorers
      @BigOzExplorers  4 года назад +1

      It’s always a challenge to try and explain something simply, we had enough difficultly learning it in the beginning let alone trying to relay it lol! You could have a 3.5t car without the van, your right, but that would lead to trouble when you hook up the van! As GVM is based on the car ‘as it stands’ on the road, technically the ball weight is a part of the GVM, so 7t is achievable. Ball weight shouldn’t be a separate figure when in combination... I hate sounding argumentative, I used to have the same questions when we were learning at the beginning 💁🏼‍♀️ it’s a what came first, the chicken or the egg situation I think! It’s what the transport department says that we all have to abide by! ☺️ Thanks again for commenting, following and interesting conversation 🙌🏻

    • @jackofjr
      @jackofjr 4 года назад

      @@BigOzExplorers Sorry guys but like Dale says and I have said before a 7T GCM is not achievable , well not legally I know people keep stating the GCM is 7T , just on the FB page someone has said just that , can you explain how you could possibly have a 7T GCM and not have either the Patrol or the Van over weight ,

    • @matthewpage529
      @matthewpage529 4 года назад

      My question is and I think a lot of people are thinking the same but what is your tare weight with the four of you guys in it and a full tank of juice as if you keep adding all this stuff your going to run out of payload pretty quick and still going to want to add on a ball weight. I’ve been doing a lil add up as you go and think your going to run out pretty quick.
      Ass the 62’s are a pretty heavy beast to start with can’t wait to see a weight bridge doc.

    • @anthonydoherty1599
      @anthonydoherty1599 4 года назад

      Big Oz Explorers We’ll just have to agree to disagree on this one. 7T is only achievable if your van is heavier than 3.5T (when weighed by itself off the vehicle). This exceeds your vehicles maximum braked towing capacity. You can’t add the ball weight figure to your max braked towing capacity. Ball weight is a downwards force. Max braked towing capacity is about forward to aft force when you hit the brakes. If you have an accident and the insurance company decide to weigh your van by itself and it’s over 3.5T, your insurance will be void. It’s not about what QLD transport say, it’s about that label on your vehicle that says max braked towing capacity and understanding what that means. It’s about the weight of the thing you’re towing, unhitched. Not once it’s on the vehicle. Really enjoy your content and look forward to the rest of your vids 👍

    As an Ex professional sound engineer the biggest mistake all vlogers make is their inconsistent sound levels. If you run a limiter on the main bus channel it can help.
    Just remember all recording music is already mastered and will therefore seem a lot louder. Not sure what you are doing your sound on but if you can route your prerecorded music via a seperate bus it would be helpful.

    Good to see you chose an Aussie made UHF in GME 👍🏻
    Why did you choose the Dick Cepeks over say a Toyo, Nitto or Yokohamas which all seem to be coming popular in the Y62 world.

    • @BigOzExplorers
      @BigOzExplorers  4 года назад +1

      We love our Aussie brands 🙌🏻 🇦🇺
      Tyres were because of research on the dick cepeks and the quality/road noise/value for money/km wear and tear etc... it was between these and the Yokohama’s but, availability was what helped us make the final choice! If you’ve seen much of our series, you’ll see a trend where we tend to try something different from the crowd where we can! Hopefully this helps others make an informed choice with a bit of different research/info 😁

    Hi guys, just trying to find the numberplate UHF aerial holder you put on the patrol temporarily until your bull arrived came through, also you had it on your Ranger. I cannot find anything anywhere. Could you direct me to the correct site etc as this is exactly what we want for our Jeep Grand Cherokee. Thanks in advance....Brian

      Hey Liz, here is a link to it! It would’ve been a hard one to find because it’s actually meant to hold extra lights on the front of the car rather than a UHF aerial! www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/sca-sca-driving-light---mounting-bracket/520665.html?gclid=Cj0KCQiAx9mABhD0ARIsAEfpavRDWeSqdW3CqqgFgXpsMb-4JZZ0ntHYLfbxtqjUo0XFZR1oKw_psQoaAlTbEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

    Hi, yes the video was great but the sound does need to be evened up. I found I had to increase the volume to hear you but then when you played some music it blasted the neighbourhood. Hope this can be sorted out. Apart from that, 10 out of 10.

    I like how the Patrol has a 7000kg GCM. This is undone with the 3500 towing capacity, as a 3.5T caravan will have a (go with 10% as standard - 350kg) ball weight. Take that off the 785kg payload, and you're left with 435kg......not much left for a bullbar, winch, lights, fridge. etc', etc'. Not to mention passengers and luggage......
    Is a GVM upgrade available for the Patrol??

    • @BigOzExplorers
      @BigOzExplorers  4 года назад

      Same applies for a 200 though, they all loose the ball weight in the GVM when in combination, standard stuff. GVM upgrades are available! We’ll be talking more about this in a coming episode ☺️

    Only sound issue was any distant stuff i.e. when talking about the UHF pack. Are you using a Bluetooth microphone?
    If the tyres have the potential to scrub, is the rolling diameter therefore bigger and as a result speedo and trip data will be out?

    • @BigOzExplorers
      @BigOzExplorers  4 года назад

      Hey David, yes I agree in the UHF bit! We need a portable mic really for this stuff but it’s not normal content on our channel so we’re learning as we go!
      Based on the size increase from 265/70/18 to 295/70/18, the increase in speed will be approx 5km/hr faster than when the speedo reads 100km/hr... the numbers vary depending on speed though... still within legal limits, but it is something to be wary of when increasing tyre size. We had the same increase in the Ranger also, so we’re used to accounting for it in our speed 🙌🏻

    Hi guys, great job. Congratulations on the new car!
    I’ve fitted a few accessories in my time and am a little concerned with how you have installed the uhf.
    I usually never mount anything near or above the pedals.
    Cables or the unit could interfere with braking or acceleration.
    Passenger side is a much safer option.
    Take care guys.

      We always do passenger normally too but the drivers side grommet was much easier to access. There are a lot of zip ties in place and nothing would ever be in the way of pedals etc. if you’ve watched many of our episodes you’ll know how much we like to be safe and legal being on the road 24/7 👍🏻 Thanks for your feedback regardless and watching our journey! 🙌🏻

      Hey Dave, Sian here! No I don’t have a background in it for work, but I do a LOT of research and asking of questions to get the info we need from the right people and give it to you guys... I love numbers and technicalities lol... I’m a tomboy at heart and have been around cars most of my days so I have background on a personal front I guess? I don’t like all the fluff on RUclips and how varied opinions can be so we want to be honest and fluid and tell it as it is. If the car isn’t fuel efficient or we go over weigh for eg, we will tell you... I have some small time acting experience so the words probably fall out freely in front of a camera and I guess that helps too ☺️ thanks for following... Hi guys have followed you for some time now, have towed our van with a Disco 4 for almost ten years & have purchased a new y62 Ti, thanks for all you reviews/vehicle rundowns etc. I have a question in regards to the super cheap number plate mount you used for your UHF aerial, would it be suitable to use as a permanent fixture as not intending to replace bumper with bull bar, my concern is the aerial weight, potential issues with corrugations/vibrations etc. would appreciate your input.
    mean while tow pro & Anderson plug installed, rear draws going in soon (fourbyfitout) & duel battery fit & then air bag man to follow if all goes well covid wise etc we will be on our way up Nth mid to late April

    • @BigOzExplorers
      @BigOzExplorers  3 года назад

      Hey Rob, the only reason we knew about the aerial holder was because we had one on the ranger for about 3 years with an even bigger antenna. It can definitely withstand off road and consistent use! A great cheap fix. You can also get a small bracket from Autobarn that is made to suit a car that sits in the front of your bonnet, depends what size antenna your going to have and your height clearance needs though as the bonnet mount sits higher than the number plate one? We have now opted for a window mount which is invisible. Highly recommend if your open to being a little different. Great to hear we've been able to help so much with your build, thanks for letting us know! You'll have to send us some photos on socials when you've completed it. www.gme.net.au/au/antennas/ae5004/

    I'm a bit surprised you have gone with a larger diameter tyre on a vehicle that is being set up as a Touring / Towing vehicle , a 295 tyre is a little over 40mm larger in diameter than the 265 , it will have a negative impact on performance , fuel economy especially towing , I guess it will go halfway to correcting the speedo error , have you noticed the speedo is about 9% fast the odometer is correct with std size tyres . Also you have added probably over 100kg in weight in just the tyres , a std 62 wheel and tyre is about 35kg , maybe the new wheels are lighter than the std ones . My 62 is mostly for touring , I don't use it for everyday driving so I have stuck to std wheels and std size tyres for that reason , I have changed to a Lt tyre . The Vic Highcountry is my back yard , I haven't had any problems on the tracks I have driven so far with std size tyres , I even did a few trips with no problems on the stock Duelers .

      @@BigOzExplorers oof. Idk. I mean not the whole episode was low. There was parts that were of better quality. Like u started off strong when revealing the wheels. Then when he was describing the gvw, wheels nd tires it was low. Everything after that was good until the uhf then it became low again. Soon after that was it good again. I mean i don't mind I have a sound bar. I just would turn it up, then turn it down as needed. Now this is my honest nd humble opinion. But I watch a lot of RUclips vids nd I've noticed the ones that r mic'd up usually have the best quality throughout. I think with an external camera mic its better for vlog'ing nd in urface style filming nd not shooting from a distance. So it comes down to distance nd voice projection for an external mic. U know. Nd I've also noticed with the go pros u can hear them better when they r behind the go pro. Then they turn it around nd its not as loud unless the have the external mic on it. Now these r just pure observations nd speculations. But love the content. Excited to see wat else u have planned for the patrol. 🤙
