    Hey Big Oz! Thank you for your videos; as a young family of 4 we are preparing for our adventures with a caravan and learning what the pitfalls are (especially the GVM video) really has helped us steer clear of unnecessary salesman. It’s really hard knowing what you need and don’t when you lack the experience. It is also so damn expensive to get it wrong! So I feel your vids really help families like mine and are relatable to our needs… thank you. We will be supporting you moving forward… you saved us $8000 dollar GVM! Keep the build vids and any tips to keep helping us families take that adventure….

    Won't link, but have seen a couple of videos, on the left hand side where you have your 12v they also fit an air compressor in that side void and a connector, so you can up and down your car and van tyres, also if you do fit the water tank, you can run a pump and water connector in the same area to connect a hose, hand held shower etc

  • @anthonydoherty1599
    @anthonydoherty1599 4 года назад +1

    A small upgrade to the GVM and you’ll be just fine. Unless you’re towing with a Ram or an F-Truck, most vehicles in Aus require a GVM upgrade when towing over 3T and you want your vehicle to have a bull bar, winch, rack, fridge, etc. From memory, your van was only 3.3T approx? So a 300kg GVM upgrade will allow you to have your car at 3.5T (+ 300kg ball weight) and the 3.3T van and still be under the GCM of 7T, all good. I think it’s fantastic that you’re showing people every step, including having to adjust as you go along. You’re doing exactly the right thing, keeping it safe, legal and insured!

    I don’t understand why people would buy a capable off rd van then duplicate the same features into their tug and adding a shitload of weight onto their CVM. I understand this set up would be handy on the odd occasion when you leave the van behind to spend the day on a track, at a beach or camp for a couple of days but at what cost?
    Good luck to you and enjoy your Y62 and I hope it does the job you want from it.

    Thanks for doing this vid guys. Interesting. I think the rear axle could be over with a 300KG ball weight though. Because depending on the suspension sag, you could get around 150KG of load shift from the front axle on top of the 300KG ball. Rear axle max load is 2030KG. Only way is to measure with the van on really. With your GVM, you might struggle finding an upgrade but you might find an engineer that could sign off to your group axle rating (3680KG)?? Wont fix your rear axle problem but will get you your bullbar and winch. Maybe if you then install airbags in the rear, you could then fix the load shift problem ?? Good luck

    Guys I don’t think you really did to much research into the y62 like you have told us cause if you did you wouldn’t of brought it.
    A lot of people had tried to warn you about the GVM and how heavy they are and that you are going to run out of payload really quickly and now you have to do a GVM upgrade just to tow the van.

    • @BigOzExplorers
      @BigOzExplorers  4 года назад +5

      We never had a problem with getting a GVM upgrade we just chose not to do it in the beginning and would get one if we needed it? So many things need to get weighed before they get put in the car and some you just can’t actually get an accurate weigh to the kilo. We did our research and we are happy with our choice even now! We’ve gone outside the box and have found a GVM solution that no one has done yet which doesn’t require a small home loan. Stay tuned for more 👌🏻

  • @bradrein08
    @bradrein08 4 года назад

    Yep thats the problem with towing over 3T, bloody manufacturers dont give your much wiggle room for load carrying. Us poor S4 Y62 and earlier cop a load reduction over 250kg Still a much safer car to tow that sort of load than the Ranger. Just got the GVM for my Y62 done at OnTrack costly but worth it in the long run.

    • @BigOzExplorers
      @BigOzExplorers  4 года назад +2

      So unfortunate that the caravan and car industry don’t work in conjunction with each other, and the S4 and below adds even more problems into the mix! Stay tuned for the build because we do upgrade with the GVM but it’s not what everyone’s done with the leading names... 😉

    • @bradrein08
      @bradrein08 4 года назад

    • @jackofjr
      @jackofjr 4 года назад

      @@BigOzExplorers I don't believe the S4 and below series are any different , that sticker in the door of my S4 clearly says " Guide Only " nowhere does it say you " MUST " reduce the weight in the car " GVM " by the amounts listed , its just there to try and help people stay within GVM / Axle limits , apparently even the first S5 had the same sticker , all it did was cause mass confusion that's why I think Nissan decided to remove it .
      I'm not shocked at all by the weight , when you said you would be able to add all the gear to the 62 that you couldn't to the Ranger , I knew straight away not to a stock one you wont , that was the impression you gave in the first video . I think I told you a stock std Ti with 2 people and a full tank is 3000Kg , drop 300 on the ball and you have 200kg left to play with .
      I will be very interested in what you do about a GVM upgrade , the On Track upgrade to 4085kg is a good increase but there seems to be a few issues with it , I looked at it even before I bought my 62 but the idea of just a spacer for the front shocks and not a spring change put me off ,
      Its a pity the Qld roads mob haven't opened the weigh bridges for free public use like Vic Roads have , its really good just to be able to weigh a vehicle at any time .

    • @trimat2016
      @trimat2016 4 года назад

      The real problem is with the caravan industry. There's just no need for 10% ball weight, it just makes everything harder. I put all the heavy stuff in the rear of my 2.5T Jayco Expanda and only fill the rear water tank. Hey presto the ball weight is down under 150kg and I've got a 100kg more leeway in the Patrol. Towed beautifully on a 10,000km round trip to Tassie from WA and I couldn't be happier with Series 4 Y62.

    Thanks guys. Love your work. Have got so many ideas from your build. I am looking to do the same drawer and 12V system as you. When I was on the enerdrive site though researching this I found that they do not recommend placing the lithium battery on its side as is required in this build. Hey Peter, we contacted Enerdrive to ask the same question. They pretty much advised that for warranty purposes they do not recommend it. He said there is no reason why it won't work but they don't have the numbers/history to back having it on its side yet. Basically if something goes wrong we are not covered by warranty. If a mod can be blamed for a failure , for example a GVM upgrade so you can load the vehicle over what the manufacturer specifies and the shocks fail , Nissan will not cover the cost , Nissan have a big yellow sticker under the bonnet stating do not add anymore than 85kg to the front , there is no way any manufacture will cover anything that has failed if they think a non genuine part / accessory has contributed to or caused that failure .
