    The weights you have don’t take into the GVM downscale table on you driver door as your tow all download increases you need to reduce your GVM

  • @robertczerwiec3898

    With Nissan up to 250kg towball weight GVM not affected, 300kg tawball reduce GVM by 70kg, 325kg tawball, -100kg of GVM and 350kg tawball , -130kg of GVM. This is from Nissan specs.

    Finally, all my questions have been answered. Thanks so much Sian excellent presentation on the numbers, prices were higher than I was hoping for but I guess that is the way things go, main one is on the pricing of the Y62, I think you'd be lucky to get it for less than $82,500 today, decision time for us. Hey John, I said it was coming and I promised you it would be this week! I’m glad this has been able to help you out. • @johnmarais7772
      @johnmarais7772 3 года назад

      Thanks gents. We looked for and LC200 and the dealers told us we would not find any LC200s in Australia, all incoming stock was committed and our only chance was to wait for the LC300. We therefore went for test drives in a Y62 ($79,900 was as low as they would go) in Cairns and a Prado ($67,900 was as low as they would go) in Brisbane, we loved both vehicles and finally settled on the Prado. The main reason for settling on the Prado came down to the size. We intend using the car about 25% touring/offroad and 75% city driving, I never realised just how wide the Y62 was and that swung us to the Prado. Our offroad van has an ATM of only 1.8tonne and a towball weight of only 100kgs so the Prado will easily handle the load.

      Yes Paul that's a very good point, another easy fix. Thats why we didn't mind sharing the overweight figure. It wasn't done accurately by a proper set of scales plus its so small, I know it can be fixed with a few smart changes like the tyres. I'm pretty sure it can be done with smart packing in the van to reduce the ball weight and a few moves in the car but that is definitely another great option too, cheers mate! Hi guys another great vid I have no doubt with your fuel consumption figures ..there are so many variations the change these figures, hilly country head wind etc and the Patrol & van like LC 200 are as aerodynamic as a house brick. A lot of people fudge the truth on fuel consumption. That front bar certainly looks smick looks like it was factory. Like you I have been really cautious with my weights done twice my van 2,500 kg & the LC& van gcm 6,000 kg is well under. It is rear axle load I need to check. Safe travels p.s. they really had to cut that guard away for the snorkel hopefully it does weaken the guard too much. Cheers Ian.

    Hey guys I like what you've done with the patrol. I have done comparison testing with about 10 truck and trailer combinations with three different scales one after the other. We utilised some portable weigh scales and two different weigh bridges. Even with the portable weigh scales in calibration they were pretty inaccurate and all three scales showing variations and more often than not they did not read the same. I think you will find they will have a tolerance of about 10 percent. You are right in saying that there will be different weights every time you way the vehicle. I am guessing you are using a weight distribution hitch, if not this would fix your issue.

    • @BigOzExplorers
      @BigOzExplorers  3 года назад

      My understanding is that you cannot use a WDH on the Patrol because our van has a DO35 hitch which needs to oscillate left to right. I think you can get an adapter part for the Hayman Reece setup but with the weight we need to move from the rear axle, I'm not too worried as it can be done with smart packing in the van to reduce the ball weight and a few moves in the car. :) We were also SO so full that day on purpose too lol. Will be interesting to do it properly with callibrated 'car' scales instead of the truck stops! 😁🙌🏻

    Hi just like to add my 5 cents.........love the car and great video........glad you all good with the GVM/ATM. But I’d like to think that there needs to be a good safe weight difference between the car and the van. If all faults the car needs to pull up the van without the van breaks. Safe travels

    • @BigOzExplorers
      @BigOzExplorers  3 года назад +1

      Totally agree, you know what's crazy? We didn't have trailer brakes connected when we were in our Ranger and somehow coped (We didn't know any better at the time, hopeless...) ... We have also driven our current setup at one point without trailer brakes because the initial wiring install was a bloody disaster. It does actually pull up quite well surprisingly! We talked more about this in a previous build episode. :)

    • @Denis-zb5pf
      @Denis-zb5pf 3 года назад +1

      Practice pulling up without van brakes at various speeds is beneficial to an emergency, if the van brakes for some out of the blue reason fail. Those long straight roads in W.A. is perfect opportunity to gain the knowledge.

    Hey guys, has any of the modifications impacted the factory warranty? Also did you guys look at GVM/GCM upgrades for the Ranger? We went the 2L BiTurbo Ranger with a Lovells pre-rego upgrade giving us 3.5T GVM and 7.1T GCM. Also a WDH should help shift weight from the rear axle to the front.

    • @BigOzExplorers
      @BigOzExplorers  3 года назад +2

      Warranty is affected where it directly links to a part. ie. our rear springs aren't covered because they aren't standard from the manufacturer however our brakes, independent suspension etc are still covered as they have not been modified. We owned our Ranger before touring became a plan in our life so we never researched pre rego GCM upgrade and as you know, you cannot upgrade the GCM after it is registered. My understanding is that you cannot use a WDH on the Patrol because our van has a DO35 hitch which needs to oscillate left to right. I think you can get an adapter part but with the weight we need to move from the rear axle I'm not too worried as it can be done with smart packing in the van to reduce the ball weight and a few moves in the car. :)

    Well done on the Y62 build guys, you've done a great job with it. It's a beast 👍 Question - regarding the 3300kg ATM on your weights spreadsheet, is that really ATM, or is it just the weight over your caravan axles (GTM)? If 3.3T actually is your loaded van's ATM (ie. TOTAL WEIGHT, including ball weight), then you appear to be double-counting ball weight in your GCM calculation (which would mean you are not as close to the Patrol's max GCM rating as you think you are). However, if 3.3T is in fact "GTM" only, then when you add ball weight this (ATM = GTM + ball weight), you may be exceeding the max ATM rating of your caravan (which I assume is 3.5T), and also exceeding the 3.5T towing capacity of your vehicle (note that vehicle towing capacity relates to ATM, not GTM). Assuming your "without van" and "with van" GVM weights were measured on the same scales/weighbridge, I reckon it's safe to assume your ball weight is 300kg, not 240kg as per the ball weight scales.

    • @BigOzExplorers
      @BigOzExplorers  3 года назад +1

      Yes your right it was GTM over the axles and ball weight is applied to the car at this stage. We are able to upgrade our caravan to 4.5t but haven't done it yet so I'm not too stressed that the gear can't handle the weight. Yes, legally speaking when the van is static and unhooked it may be slightly over but that's not what you get booked for on the road 😉 Thanks for the maths and deep thought you applied! 🤙🏼😊

      Correct. The trakryder coils were an easy change (20 mins labour?) while installing the airbag man gear (3K price includes labour). We didn't initially intend on lifting the car at all. The 2" lift/install was more expensive than we expected as it took quite a few more hours than the company expected in labour (keep in mind the S5 patrols were still SO new and different underneath compared to the S4). There wasn't any labour rework as the only change that needed to happen were bigger springs to accomodate the 2 inches, they would have been removing the stock ones anyway. Many thanks for being so generous in answering all the questions. I am surprised to see the Cost of TI as nearly 72 73K you mentioned in excel sheet. Does dealer fetch you that kind of a discount? From 86K down till 72 73 mark?? Wow! Hey again Desi, when we purchased our Nissan, Toyota hadn’t released news of the new 300 and the Series 5 Patrol was SO new and unknown at the time still, we bargained our way up the QLD coastline at the time (as we were travelling that way) and we also purchased under an ABN which helps a lot! I don’t think you’d be able to fetch that price any more, times have definitely changed!
